Hi mate great video really informative any chance you know what the black box is that is in front of the air filter housing as in towards the front of the car I’ve recently bought a petrol 1.6 version and have this part missing from the engine bay but unsure what it is
That’s part of the air intake system (you can see the point of air entry just in front of it in the grey plastic housing for the grille). Not sure if/how the petrol engine differs here.
Really helpful and informative video, I’m about to buy a first car and it will definitely be second hand, would you recommend that I do this on my first car when I buy it?
It’s always a good idea to keep a car well maintained. How much DIY people should do will always depend on technical ability and having the correct tools, equipment etc.

Hi. Did you clean out oil from its housing, e.g. cloth, paper towel or brake cleaner and did you fill/add the housing with new oil ? I see old oil was drained. Thanks
i thought youd have worked at a main dealer VW/Audi and i bet they miss you auto knight your very good i love all your really fantastic content on the 8p A3 m8 .😁
@Auto Knight sorry I am not very good in terms of understanding these things. I assume it will be alot better than my 1.9 tdi. Does it give you more miles on motorway. I go distant fishing therefore was thinking of getting a smaller diesel
@@mumtazzafar5696 I had an A4 with the 1.9TDi engine and I would I would say this is a little more economical. In my opinion though, the 1.9 PD engine is one of the best VW group diesels ever. Such a strong reliable unit if you change the oil regularly and change the cam belt at correct intervals.

@Auto Knight I have been driving this audi since late 2016. Last year I had a serious oil leak which was coming out from the brake pump. That was my guess. I took it to this mechanic who proved to be sort of a cowboy, and his diagnosis was that the oil was leaking from camshaft washer which is inside the gearbox Well I thought when he is going to open the gearbox I might as well get the new put in too. In the end, he found out the oil was leaking from the brake pump side therfore he put new washers in the brake pump as well as the new clutch. It also had a problem with the thermostat as the vehicle failed to warm up. That was also changed. Last year I almost spend a 1000 pounds on it as I thought the new vehicle would cost me alot of money therefore I might as well get this fixed. Since the clutch change the clutch pedal still seems a little spongy and get sticks halfway sometimes and I have to pull it up with with my left toe. I am seeing some videos on TH-cam. I am sure there is air in the clutch system. apart from this to be honest this audi engine seems great. I haven't changed the battery or glow plugs in the last six years. It starts first time whether its summer or winter. I just serviced it today.
I used Carista. You can get the Bluetooth adapter that plugs into the diagnostic port for about £35 and the app has a range of payment options. Great for reading fault codes and various coding and configuring on Volkswagen group cars - I’ll be making a video on it soon.
@@autoknight747 thank you very much, I just purchased 2010 Audi A3 1,6 tdi with 200k km, so your videos help me alot to understand this car and to service it as it should be serviced. Cheers from Croatia!

I just use the Pela pump to drain the excess that pools at the base. I didn’t refill with fresh oil as most would only drain back to the sump anyway.
Did you have to prime the fuel pump after changing the fuel filter? Did you use the app to prime or just cranked?
These usually start just fine as there is still a considerable amount of diesel in the filter bowl.
