      @@mynamejeef7166 using Betas results in a lower unit count, so I can bring more firepower onto the battlefield
      & fleettenders make the losses less likely, especially compared to a pulsar that can't be healed fully after a hardpoint (the engine is obviously the most problematic if you use guerilla tactics) is destroyed. But neither the Pulsar nor the Beta should be in the frontline, I use either a tanky unit (f.e. a captured Secutor) or a Battle Dragon (that is in range of at least 2 tenders) as a bullet sponge so the rest of my fleet won't get targeted as much
      & don't forget that the Beta uses a bigger ion cannon category, so it can fire from even longer ranges than the pulsar. You just have to watch out they don't come too close to the enemies on their own - the reason they do this is propably so they can use their other weapons as well (& since these have a more limited range they move forward automatically)

      @@DIEGhostfish I've always liked to use Gladiators in what I call "raid fleets" (not to be confused with uh... raid fleets), which are fleets entirely composed of ships capable of single unit retreat.
      I'd send these fleets in to attack an important target en-masse and individually retreat them when they started losing shields, my goal was never to take over a planet in a single attack, but to destroy pricey assets on the enemy side without losing more than a couple raid units at most (which is a win for me, resource-wise), this way I could slowly chip away at the enemy's overall strength with guerrilla tactics in space.
      Recently the Gladiator lost its bombers, so that decreased its power in my raid fleet strategy, but the proton torpedoes are still nice, I used to employ a lot of Gladiators because of their torpedoes and bombers, now I guess they fill more of a defensive role, providing fighters and laser cannons for screening, and light turbos to bully frigates on the way.

      agree, fleet tenders are a must, & since many Hapan ships don't have hardpoints, they are extremely useful
      Use some Betas & Battle Dragons to annihilate the enemy's shields in seconds & then rip the ships apart with the hull-damage-focussing hapan ships
      Oh, and put a damage tank in front of the rest of your units so the enemy focuses mainly on that - either a Neutron Cruiser, a captured capital like a Secutor or a battle dragon that gets constantly healed by (at least 2) fleet tenders

    Hi Corey, a word regarding Fall of the Republic balance if i may: i think something should be done about the pelta support frigate, specifically about their tending ability. The are way OP and unbearably frustrating to play against when the AI start to spam them, chiefly for one reason: bombers (along other attacks, but that can be considered lore-friendly) seems near incapable to hit them, both with AC missiles (who arbitrarily don't home on ships when not attacking an hardpoint) and bombs. This is a massive problem because if the AI spam more than 15 of them along a pair of praetors (which i think take too little pop cap for their power, but that's just an opinion) and/or other ships they'll costantly heal each other and everything else to night invulnerability, regardless of the quantity of bomber and fighters you send their way. Sure, concentrating (literally) hundreds of fighters and bombers on a single one will eventually kill it off, but there is an horde more of them plus all the other ships that in the meantime are shredding you, that's just ridiculous. Their OPness when massed is even more glaring when compared with their CIS counterpart, which would be quickly vaporized by bombers in comparable conditions because it have hardpoints and so "magically" missiles (along all other attacks, but homing missiles from bombers are something that should hit a frigate-sized ship) willl actually hit it, while be unable to be massed in a battle to costantly heal everything at ridicolous speeds due to its size, extreme slowness and pop cap requirement (but this latter part is secondary in importance, the unberable thing about the peltas is: near impossibility to hit, costant healing, massive spammability). TL;DR either the pelta support frigate should have its tending ability removed (and given to a ship that's actually possible to destroy even when spammed, like some kind of acclamator variant), or it should be able to be homed in by AC bomber missiles just like they home in on an hardpoint or simply a cap on how many tender ships can be active at the same time on the battlefield should be imposed, because as now they're ridicolous. I hope that you'll read this, and my thanks if you do.

    • @scorpion5574
      @scorpion5574 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Like you said, bombers and fighters will have a lot of trouble hitting them. You should look for corvette hunters instead, the Heavy Munition Carrier and the Auxilia both can fairly reliably hit Peltas. Concussion missiles should also be able to hit them, but you need to make sure there's little to no point defense. They're very annoying to deal with en masse, but I think that's probably your best bet. Lucrehulks should also be able to hit them fairly reliably too with their varied weapons but I haven't tried that personally.

    • @ItaTermite
      @ItaTermite 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@scorpion5574 i get what you say, but my problem is not facing a few peltas (we're obviously talking of the support model here), who can be handled handily enough with light turbolaser like those on captors/auxilia or massed point-defences like those on the lucrehulks; my problem is the AI slapping 17 of them at the same time along with other large, hard hitting, long-range ships (read: praetors). Such combination is ridicolously unbalanced (beside wholly one-sided, as only the republic dogs can pull it off), and especially infurianting when you don't have the sheer numbers and firepower required to just bruteforce through it. When i am attacking and i have a whole main fleet at my back i can deal with a pelta spam, though it's still very annoying. The problem is that, for mere cash reasons, you often wouldn't have such large fleets at your disposal, finding yourself relying much more heavily on fighters and bombers, who are next to useless in a pelta spam. Even in the case you have some auxilia/captors or even a lucrehulk or two, on the other side there are not only the 17 peltas (that only take 34 pop cap) to deal with: you have a whole accompagning fleet aswell, in my case often well-stocked with praetors and heavy turbolaser-bearing ships that vastly outrange all my shipborn pelta-htting weapons and are being costantly healed by the peltas themselves (almost nullifying their one weakness: massed bombers) while shredding my ships that can't try to counter no pelta when slagged. Especially in defensive actions you'll invariably have to fight much superior fleets, and the use of fighters/bombers is vital for that. Regarding concussion missiles, a captor/auxilia will be dust before firing at a single pelta with two praetor at the forefront, and the ones shot by fighters and bombers (that can survive the praetor's fire for quite long) do hit them but also inflict so little damage that you'll need a very large volume of those for a single pelta to start to feel the hurt, and as soon as she does she will be continuosly and almost instantaneously healed by the others anyway, resulting in concussions being near useless even in the total assence of point-defence in the face of a pelta spam. Making the bomber's Anti Capital missiles home on peltas (like they do on hardpoints) will mitigate this mess, while giving the "tender" skill to another republic vessel with hardpoints (read: possible to destroy even if spammed) or just simply placing a cap on how many vessels with the "tender" skill can be active at the same time will fix it. The current situation is not only unbalanced gameplay-wise, but also lore-wise: i'm pretty sure that piling a dozen of support-class pelta together wouldn't equal to night-total immunity to massed (and i mean massed) bomber attacks in-lore aswell.

    The Roster honestly kinda sucks , its a struggle to hold and push planets if the ai has massive capital ship fleets everywhere that kill the hapan ships instantly

      Small numbers of large ships aren't inherently more powerful than larger numbers of smaller ships. Smaller ships can be micro'd much more effectively. So there's a higher skill floor, but also a much higher skill ceiling.

      @@CoreyLoses tell that to the fleet of star destroyers that can usually wipe out my fleets pretty quick if the ai isnt bad for once
      good example is i keep losing cruisers , corvettes and boarding shuttles because they wont flee out of the combat zone when i tell them
      i now mainly rely on stolen ships and what few bigger ships the hapans have because the smaller ones just dont really do much

      Agreed. Their ships are all glass canons. Very disapointing.

      I mean, if your criteria for what makes a good ship just comes down to size then sure you're going to have a bad opinion of their ships. That's not really a good way to analyze them.
