- The Hapes Consortium is becoming playable in Thrawn's Revenge 3.2, so it's time to break down their roster of space units and space stations! They of course have Battledragons and Nova Cruisers, but what else have we cooked up for them?

My first impression of the Magnetar was "it looks like a Defiant/Whitestar crossbreed."
I find it absolutly amazing how such a small group of modders, or even really one girl, was able to create such amazing ship designs, I think they look far better than any ships to come out in any recent game I've played. Amazing design and amazing work to you and Valarie! (hopfully that is spelled correctly.)

These are absolutely gorgeous! One of my favorite parts of Sci-fi has always been seeing the various ship designs and these look like they could be straight out of cannon. My complaints to the team, well done!

Really high end designs (strong Star Trek/Andromeda vibes here). Definitively unique for EaW. How fast will these Hapan ships be? Lorewise they were always described as quiet speedy.

As good as it feels to field Star Destroyer, I actually prefer to play more unique faction like the Empire of the Hand or the CSA.
I also like the challenge. With any of the empire warlords, you just build a couple star destroyers, a few ssds, one or the other battlecruiser and you call it a day with the galactic republic its basically just spamming the different varieties of the mc80 patterns plus quaesars.
But with eoth, CSA or now this faction, one has to be far more creative and elaborate with the fleet compositions. Basically all factions who dont have an equal to a battlecruiser or anything bigger.
I've always liked how the Nova is a nod to Klingon designs but not a simple copy. It's like poetry, it rhymes.

i don't know how difficult it would be to program but would something like a pack bonus for the beta cruisers unlock an ability somewhat similar to the ground to space ion cannon be possible as a way to temporarily disable larger ships with overwhelming ion cannon fire? i feel like it would be a neat way to strategize with this group of relatively lighter ships compared to other factions and could go well with their piracy sort of vibe, being able to single out ships and then shut them down for boarding shuttles to safely get in range assuming all other threats are being handled. idk i'm just spitting ideas because i'm excited i didn't know about this faction until this mod and i find them rather fascinating. thank you guys for still working on these mods
That is actually something that is planned, but not promised that it will actually work.
Looks very Star Track-ish, with some elements from... Battlestar Galactica? Contrasts well with the rest of the factions, similarly to the Chiss. Send the whole team my regards Corey, you guys are keeping Star Wars alive right now.

the coronal fleet tender really reminds me of the Kame-1 (Kameyama) from the Usagi spin off Space Usagi, probably because they're both turtles. They are both distinct but share some resemblance, it would be cool if there was inspiration there although its probably coincidence because the turtle design doesn't really leave much room for interpretation

I've always been a mostly New Republic player mostly because I enjoy the diversity of their ship designs, so I will probably branch out a lot more in 3.2.

I really like the visual aesthetic for these Hapan ships, but I do have some small concerns. In some places, they look a little close to Star Trek ship style, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, every sci fi setting references each other in some way, though overdoing it might clash with the rest of the setting aesthetic. Second, while the ships are gorgeous, I think a few of them could use a few more edges to their design so they look a little more in line with the Battle Dragons. The Nova fits in quite nicely and not all of the ships need edging in order to mesh, but with the Star Home and the Battle Dragon having some harder edges to go with their curves, I think a few of the other new designs should take some inspiration there. The space stations are a better combination of the edges and curves in my opinion and I think having some of the ships lean in that direction would be more "lore accurate" so to speak.
Don't make them redo the designs. We have been waiting forever for 3.2. Can't wait
The Hapans don't fit in that simple design, that all ships have the same design language. They have the same theme, animals, mostly sea and birds. But the design evolves. The Star Home is 2500 years old. The Hapes Battle Dragon is a few hundred years old. The Nova is introduced about the battle of Yavin. The designs evolve and you mostly can see at the design how old the ships are. The Coronal, the big tender turtle, is pretty old and has way more edges, especially on the ground. The Baidam corvette has also more sharp edges. The most designs are pretty new, so they have a design language, that is way more closer to the Nova than to the Battle Dragon or Star Home.
People always say the Nova looks somewhat Star Treky because of similarities to Birds of Prey, but that's the official design, so us trying to match the existing Hapan style (which I mentioned in the video with avian and sea life influences) there's going to be similar comparisons made.

now was it me or has that allegiance Star Destroyer / mk2 Star Destroyer had a texture upgrade
It almost seems like a blend of the Remake's model with TR's usual style.
I'm pretty sure the texture hasn't changed. The lighting conditions have a pretty large impact on how the texture will look ingame and tends to hide the detail in the texture when too bright, as the contrast will be massively reduced. This could also be caused by a change to the specular map, the texture that determines how reflective the ship is, reducing the effect of lighting, which I think would be a really good thing.

I think there´s hole in design line between the Battle Dragon class and the Nova class. All the new designs looks like they are newer than the Nova class.

Will other factions (like the New Republic) be able to build these Hapan units upon conquering Hapan space?
To prevent build bar overflow, maybe you would need to build a special Hapan space structure that unlocks the units, while disabling the other normal faction units on the planet. This way, it somewhat feels more like the Hapans are simply aligned with the player faction instead of being conquered. (I don't know if that is possible or not, though)
One or two will be staying as influence units.

The Hapan ships have always had this elegant design liked from the first time I saw them, but quite practical as well. The Magnatar easily reminds me of a Star Trek ship but that's not a bad thing either, its original. In 3.2 Will The Hapans be friendly to the New Republic or will their be an option to offer up an alliance?
Neither- EaW doesn't really have great tools for that kind of stuff unless it's like FotR subfactions where they're always aligned and have limited utility.
@@CoreyLoses I get you. The mod community can only do so much in the game with its current programming/engine. No worries but damn if like in The CIV Games alliances could be set up, that would add a new dimension of game play. I do enjoy the Government Civics you're adding and influencing heroes from one faction into your own faction sounds cool. Getting someone like Pellaeon fighting for the NR sounds very cool. I never enjoy killing him in the game as he seems to be a reasonable and honorable person from the books and comics.
I'll be mildly disappointed if the ship name pool for the Magnetars doesn't include Heart of the Tempest, Eye of the Typhoon, and Voice of the Whirlwind:)

Small question since I've seen that with other mods, do the ships' weapons rotate with them or do they remain stationary and if they are stationary, would it be difficult to implement this?
They are stationary because letting them rotate reduces the framerate during battles. This is a feature that could be implemented, but Empire at War is a game that runs on only one CPU core, so it does not matter how modern or powerful one's system is, certain things will always make the game have fps drops, the team chose to keep them static for this reason, it gives the game an increased performance in exchange for missing a small detail that we only notice when we zoom in.
Now, as much as i lpve these designs, i dont think they fit in the hapes consortium building style.
The hapes ships had visible fixed position turbolasers everywhere with very few turrets and while very round, the ships didn't look so... technolpgically advanced.
For example, one of the largest ships (the one with the bridge attached to two arms above the main body) looks more like the G'quan heavy cruiser of the narn regime from B5, most others have a more star trekkie design to them.
I still lpve the designs and your work is undoubtedly excellent, thats just my nitpicking.
Keep in mind the Battle dragon is an old design, and the Nova is far more recent in Galactic history, which does not have the rotating disks like the BD. The Nova similarly gets accused of looking like a Star Trek ship, so of course if we're trying to match existing Hapan designs there will be an element of that to it as well.

They're all taken from astronomical terms (based on prior existing names like the Nova and Beta)
