      Hoping for an answer, I'm hosting a server with Apex hosting, everything worked fine all last night and early today, then my friends lagged out and can't reconnect (only 2/4 friends can't connect. My other friend and I are still connecting fine to the server.) They get Internal Exception: Java.net.socket(Exception: connection reset) error. They can join other servers, like Hypixel, for example just fine still, so it's not on their end and not on the servers end? I'm confused and don't know how to help them.
      What could possibly be causing this, or better; how to fix this??

    Hey, I found your video extremely informative, however, I am having difficulty locating the exact source of my issue. I have been able to get the server running, log into it myself using direct connection and run around as normal. I set up a port forward on my router, but the port is shown as closed according to the website you linked in the description. I was able to test with a firend a range of scenarios and ports, but the only solution I found was to completely drop my firewall in its entirety, in which case, my friend was able to join. Obviously, I don't want this and want to pinpoint which programs or rules I need to focus on in order to get this to work safely and without disabling firewall completely. Does this mean that the issue cannot be my router? I see this as confirmation that there is a rule in my firewall blocking incoming connections. Which rules should I be focusing on?

    • @dundydunker
      @dundydunker  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      When you are dropping your firewall, is it your routers or your PCs firewall? Also could you provide me what settings you gave the rule you made to allow the port forwarding? This may be easier to talk about on Instagram. Dm me my @ is dundydunker

  • @swearwolf.werewolf8049
    @swearwolf.werewolf8049 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Heads up that you need to ensure you have a *public* IP address in order for this to work which is down to your ISP (Internet Provider). I had to do a bunch of extra steps to find out this isn't even available with my provider so keep that in mind if you're still having issues. I would recommend checking by seeing if the IP in your router settings page is the same as the one shown by IP checking websites. If the IPs do *not* match then you have a private IP address and this won't work. However, you can contact your ISP to request a public IP address which they may not provide or can bill you for.
    I don't have any schooling in IT and I'm by no means an expert so if anyone more adept than me has corrections please let me know.

    • @swearwolf.werewolf8049
      @swearwolf.werewolf8049 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is an afterthought, but I would actually recommend doing this before messing with firewalls and router settings as it'll save you time, and then only refer back to the guide after you know your IP is public.

    • @dundydunker
      @dundydunker  ปีที่แล้ว

      That sounds correct. There is an alternative solution to skip portforwarding all together. If you use a third party source such as playit.gg, you can have them do the port forwarding for you. It is a 5 minute setup process and the only thing you have to do is have another program running while your server is on.

      Hello, my friend was making a server and i was helping him. Your comment reminded me that we needed to check if he has a private address. It turned out he had a private address, the one under his routers WAN IP was different than the one on websites like "whatsmyip". But i could join him after he sent me the one under WAN IP. Does this mean that everyone saying you have to have public IP are wrong or could there be another reason.

    • @dundydunker
      @dundydunker  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      9 times out of 10 it’s the port forwarding. Some ISPs don’t allow it or you have to call them to allow it or you haven’t set it up properly on the router.
      Nothing will work externally unless that site says port 25565 is open. I suggest watching a thorough video on your specific router brand or calling your isp

      I'm not too sure on that one. What I would try only as a test is changing your firewall settings like I did in the video to open the tcp and udp port to allow 25565. If that doesn't work just delete the rules you just created and continue to troubleshoot because I honestly don't know.

    In your folder up top click view, show, file name extensions

      Just look up “open port checker” there should be a few. @dundydunker  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you are in fact using your external IP and you are able to connect to your own server but your friends are not able to from the same IP then I would guess your ISP is blocking it. You need to make sure the external IP you are using is the one you get when you search google "what is my IP".
      Usually when the port says closed it is because the port forwarding was not properly setup but if you are sure everything is right it is prob the isp.

Your trying to allow all the preexisting Java rules to have full access to pass through your firewall. Then repeat that process in Outbound rules. If that makes sense. The first being your port being open which if it says it’s open on that website, you are good there. The second is your firewall, which if it’s off then that’s not the issue either. Well can you confirm the port forward is set up properly using the website in the bio(The open port checker one). It’ll be green and say 25565 is open if it is working properly. If that is working then your firewall is the problem. You can test to see if it’s blocking it by temporarily turning it off and have someone to try and join. If it still doesn’t work. It is likely on the other users end.

I have spent 7 hours trying to fix this and almost ruined my computer. • @dundydunker
      @dundydunker  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I am hoping you didn't make too many changes where there will be a problem somewhere else but I think it can be two things. One, some reason your firewall is blocking it and you need to create custom rules to allow 25565 like I did in the video. What it sounds like to me is another application is running on your computer that is also using the same port as minecraft (25565).
      You can verify this running this command (while your server is not running) into cmd.
      netstat -ano | findstr "25565"
      If nothing appears then that is not your issue. If something does appear, then there is a program conflicting with that port so I would just change the Minecraft server port in properties.
      Solutions:
      1. Change the port number in the server.properties file to 25566 (or another port not in use). Note you might have to add the firewall rules to be set for 25566 if you do this. Same as your port forwarding on your router I believe.
      2. Add firewall rules if not already made.
      3. Tell chatgpt your issues and have it help diagnose.

I've spent hours on it, researched and researched, even going way back to forum posts dating back to 2009, and I've used many guides and suggested websites and videos explaining how to do it. I know I've set up everything right, after checking and re-checking many, many times. But I just can't get 25565 to open. This is the first time I've done something like this, I just wanted a server for my family to play on (my sister lives a few states away) and that I could mod (since Realms doesn't allow modding.) I know I don't have a double NAT, I've learned how to check for that. It isn't the firewall on my pc, I've disabled it to check to see if it works. I've disabled the firewall on my router and that wasn't it either. So I'm guessing it's just my ISP itself blocking the port. Is there a way to figure out which ports ARE open that I can switch to?

      Also, for mod packs I'll save you the trouble I had to go through. If you want just a few mods, you can just drag it into the mod folder of your server. This also mean you and anyone who plays on the server has to drag the mods it into their client version of Minecraft through run -> %appdata% -> .minecraft -> then drag all the mods into the mods folder. For simplicity and larger mod packs with 100 mods or so, use cursed forges Minecraft server. files.minecraftforge.net/net/minecraftforge/forge/ and make sure to install both client and server. (This is what everyone will launch instead of default Minecraft launcher). I don't know the rest of the steps from memory but there are tons of videos and if your interested I can look into it more for you.

      Diagnosing the problem is the first step. Did you test to see if the port was actually open through that website? 6:27 As I stated in the description it can be one of two problems. The first being its your computer which you can see if its your computer by briefly turning off your file wall and direct connecting to your external IP address (Make sure the address you are connected to doesn't look like this 192.168.1.1). The second problem is the port forward which is more likely your issue. Let me know if you used the site www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/ to test port 25565 (WHILE YOUR SERVER IS RUNNING). If you can still not find the problem let me know and we can go through discord.

      It might be that your ISP doesn't support port forwarding. If you're still having trouble give playit.gg a try: th-cam.com/video/nU-ZB0yc9vo/w-d-xo.html (disclaimer I created it).

      Either your PC your hosting your server on is blocking the connection or your using the wrong IP address. To diagnose it temporarily shut off your computers firewall and maybe reboot the computer as well just to make sure. Then try to connect. If that doesn’t work, it is 100% that you are using the wrong IP address. Go to google and search “what is my IP” and give to your friend whatever it says it is. Do not share it with anyone you don’t trust

      I asked this to other people when they had problems but have you made sure to do the check with your firewall by briefly turning it off and trying to reconnect to the server. And also did you make sure your connecting to the right IP address. And lastly did you run a search on your open port through that website I listed. Make sure you test these first because it will help me figure out what you still have to do
