About this video: If you want to know how to port forward a Minecraft server in 2024, you have found the perfect video. No matter what router you are using, our goal is allow you to port forward for any Minecraft server. That means we are going to be giving you all of the common terms to look for when it comes to port forwarding as well as the ports you’ll need to forward for a Minecraft server and how to make sure that your friends can join your server after the port forwarding is complete.
First things first though, you will need to setup a Minecraft server on your computer. Luckily, there is an in-depth guide in the description above that covers everything you need to know about how to get a Minecraft server up and running in 2024.
After you have your server up and running, we can move on to port forwarding. You will need to port forward in order for your friends to join your server. If you don’t want to play on your Minecraft server with your friends, you will not need to port forward a Minecraft server.
With that being said, first things first, open up the command prompt on your computer. Then, type in “ipconfig” in the command prompt and hit enter. This will give you a few different numbers. We need the IPv4 address listed here and the default gateway. Make note of both of these numbers as you will need them later. If you have two default gateways, you will need the one that only numbers for port forwarding a Minecraft server.
Next, open up your browser and in the address bar, type in the default gateway you found and hit enter. This will open up a login box for your router. Here, you will enter your router’s username and password.
After you have logged into your router, you will need to find port forwarding in your router. This could be called apps and gaming, port forwarding, NAT forward, app forwarding, and it can be in the admin, security, firewall, administration, or management tabs. Just click around your router until you find port forwarding.
Once you find port forwarding, it’s super easy to port forward for a Minecraft server. All you need to do is add a new port forward. For the name or ID, just enter in “Minecraft Port Forward”. For the protocol, use TCP/UDP or “Both”. It could actually be the word “Both”.
Next, for anything involving “port”, enter in 25565. So internal port, external port, inside port, outside port, first port, second port, if the world “port” is mentioned at all, just enter 25565.
Lastly, you will have a place for a local/internal IP address. This is going to be the IPv4 address that we found earlier. Instead, you may have a drop-down box will all of the devices connected to your network. If that’s the case, select the device you are hosting your Minecraft server on.
You will need to get your public IP address. This is what your friends will use to join your server.
With that being said, you now know how to port forward a Minecraft server. If you have any questions about port forwarding a Minecraft server, let us know in the comments. We will try our best to help you out.
Otherwise, if we did help you learn how Minecraft port forwarding works, please give this video a thumbs up and subscribe to the channel if you haven’t already. Thank you very, very much in advance!

Please don't promote this anymore, used your promo and bought a 6gb forge server in 1.20.1 and now i want my money back. Can't upload folders for whatever reason so its virtually impossible to import my world making the server a brick unless i want to start from scratch.
was tricky with a different router but thank you!! explained very well even a noob like me understood!!
Glad it helped!
Man you did it. It was a process but you are incredibly helpful. Keep on doing what you do!
when i do port forwarding i have a "Server IP address" thing to fill out, and it says that the "IP address must belong to the same default gateway network", what am i supposed to put in that textbox?
I think it's your ipv 4 as the gateway is only for accessing your like router website I guess
for my external port it has to be from 1200-65535 for 2 areas, for example 2556-25565. it has to have those amount of numbers in those 2 And i tried so many different ways and it doesnt work what do i do
I have a dynamic IP, my friend cant join but I can, my isp static is not allowed??
use ddns
@@joonska6094 ddns wont work if your ISP doesnt allow it, ngrok is the solution here

I'm trying to put my "default gateway" into a browser search bar in order to get the sign in key like you did, but it all keeps coming up as errors, proxy errors, or internet issues. I've tried disabling chromes firewall and that doesn't even work. If i could have some help, its much appreciated.
did you figure it out i am having the same problem
when i put the default gateway into my browser it says this site cant be reached
it gives me a eero secure error
I have a problem, I followed everthing you said, I can join via localhost, but when I give my friends my external IP they cant join, like it does not even connect I dont see anything on the consol, what am I doing wrong?
well then clearly you didint do it right
@@bisects same issue
Hey, were you able to fix your issue? I've got the same problem.

@@Alrminecraftplayer i ran into a problem. sockopt... i ended up just buying a cheap server for $8 so my friend and i could play.
i have added the port to the router and firewall but still doesnt say it is open. What can i do?
When I go to select/type my Internal IP, there is nowhere for me to put it? I have AT&T, does it do it automatically? Anybody else have this issue?
Do you have a drop down or selection for devices? If so, select the computer you’re starting the server on.
typing the defualt gate way isnt working
Is there a way to hide or change your public IP address so it dosent have be be given out? Or is that the only option for them to connect?
The only way I know is paying and I’m not doing that so :( can’t play with frienda
Thank you for all the videos you have provided towards helping start new minecraft servers. I truly appreciate it and I bet many others do as well :D
my friends keep getting the Connection timed out: getsockopt, and i dont know what it means. pls help

@@aerialacers6064 i fixed it, just type into google "what is my ip" and have your friends input that ip instead of your ipv4.

This field may only contain numeric values separated by a hyphen (e.g.: 12 - 13)
so i left it on what it was set as default but the server is not working with my ip.

If you have a Unifi router its, network tab -> settings -> security ->port forwarding
not working for me its not letting my friend connect regardless of how i set it up
For me I press the apply port forward rule and then the new port just dosen't show up
my friend tries to join with the public ip adress and it says "connection error"
how do you open the ip address i check in the port checker and it said its close
getsockopt error will make me go crazy at this point
why do you get that bc im getting that too
I have a t-mobile router, and there are practically no options beside swapping between the FAQ page and router status. Anyone know how I can enable port forwarding with this router?
there might be an advance option
for me it was port mapping in the internet tab
Hey, I did everything you said but my router is tp-link VR300 and in Advanced/ NAT Forwarding/ Virtual Servers
Interface name: I can't change it
Service Type: left it empty
External Port: 25565
internal IP: I entered my IP
internal port: 25565
Protocol: ALL
[✓]Enable This entry
I did that and opened the server then ATM9
Last, when I entered my external IP it didn't work. why that I need help
Same boat hopefully we can get some answers here

How do I get people to log into my server and host them on a different ipv4 address than mine
I'm currently using laptop and I do have IPv4 Address for Ethernet Adapter, but I do not have Default Gateway since it blank. What can I do? 🤔
Go to cmd and do ipconfig /all and look for default gateway
Love the videos and you have gotten me farther than ever before, but I have port forwarded and allowed java through windows defender, my friends still cannot join, and i've watched all your other videos and there is nothing after the fact, can you help?
hey i followed all your steps and it worked fine up until the step where i need to find the port fowarding tab. there just is no option there that say port fowarding or anything else different like that. is there a way to fix or find it? or am i just cooked.
Same i cant find it

Does this only work for Java Edition? I’m trying to run a Bedrock server from my Raspberry Pi 4 and I still can’t get this to work.
Yes it's java only, unfortunately with bedrock you'll have to buy a realm or run a lan server

My router asks for a app name, what do i choose?
Is there a way to change the server IP adress like big servers do? Take hypixel for example, their server IP is not their public IP. I basically want to host a public server for anyone to play on.
you have to have a domain, ask chat gpt it will tell you
why do we have the same default gateway???
Ok so. Ive set up my server the following your steps. Im trying to make a neo forge server for me and some uk friends. I'm from the us if that matters at all. I can join the server but it doesn't pop up for them. Anyhelp would be appreciated.
okay so, seems like your server is running on a local level or you given them the wrong ip, I usually can join my own server using either the Default gateway, or typing Local:host your friends should get your IPv4 address to join to your router
thank you mate really appreciate this
Very helpful! Thank you!
I done these steps but my friends still can't join
what do i put for global port range
sold me on the minecraft server link lol, immediately got one. thanks a ton

I havent been given a public ip-
your IPv4 is your "public" ip
It was really easy, tried a lot of tutorials but only this worked, thanks!
How can i make my personal ip permanent? so it doesnt change.
On Debian, it's under 'cd /etc/network/interfaces' but before you change it to Static IP, make sure to back it up 'sudo cp interfaces interfaces.bak'
cd = Change Directory
cp = Copy
.bak = Backup
Once you finish typing these, save and exit. Ctrl + O(Save), Ctrl + X(Exit). Now, try to restart it. Type this command 'sudo systemctl restart systemd-networkd'
After you restarted it, try typing 'ip a' if the IP Add. that you configured would show up.
I have fibre… this ain’t workin
Can you make a video about alt framing on phone or ps5-ps4 please and thank you

Port forwarding is allowing a connection to your network that your router/firewall might otherwise block. Basically.
