    Problem. If you haven’t noticed, game companies don’t want to let us actually own the games anymore. They only want to resell digital licenses of the games available so they can resell them to you again on their next gen console. It’s all about profit and not customer satisfaction. Unfortunately.

      But I think it's a little weird that they will release collections of emulated games on disc and switch cart. I mean like that's okay but why not actually make more cartridges.
      But I think if they made newly manufactured cartridges. I don't think it would significantly impact the ability for people to subscribe to the Nintendo switch online service, which is what they're trying to do. A lot of their fans are probably double dipping and would also pay to subscribe to them on switch as well as buy a physical cartridge

      The thing is, The vast majority will be happy to rent, and a still massive crowd will line up for new officially licensed cartridges. The real issue is they would have to develop a whole wing to get back to learning something they've forgotten.

Sega should start by paying Mauro for his work on Final Fight MD (which is looking awesome at time of writing - any Megadrive/Genesis + Final Fight fans reading this should look up 'Final Fight MD' after watching this video 😊). and putting it out with legit boxes and manuals! 🙏

      Thanks a lot. I like it when the algorithm works out and it actually introduces people who like to make videos about a certain subject with people who like to watch videos on that subject.
      This particular video did not catch fire when it was first published, but I got about nine subscribers out of it so far so it feels good to see that. Just because the algorithm didn't like a particular video, the humans actually did so yay for humans!

    This is a great idea! Your right in that it's a completely different experience playing real carts on real hardware. I'm a Genesis fanatic and own all of the emulation collections by Sega. While they are well done they don't compare with playing the real system and especially on a CRT. I've spent the last 2 years adding and conquering all kinds of games on cartridges that I didn't play before. Most of the most expensive games I've gotten repros ( MUSHA) or reprints (Eliminate Down) and having a blast experiencing them for the first time.

    Well-argued video! I can only dream of officially licensed carts of games that never came out, like Earthbound Origins, StarFox 2 or Final Fantasy V in English. I would drop so much money on that kind of thing… and already have: I just got my Majuuou: King of Demons cart from Retro-Bit tonight. Playing a real cart is just like the vinyl experience, where you have a tactile experience and you can focus on enjoying it. Yeah emulators, flashcarts, MiSTer and Switch online are groovy ways to play… but there’s nothing like the real thing. IYKYK.

      When I was recording video for this the lady that works in the record store walked up and asked what I was doing and I explained it to her. She was sort of surprised that video game companies don't make new pressings of classic games again considering she sells vinyl all day everyday in 2024 to people who want them. Independent record stores like Music Millennium in Portland aren't just scraping by, they're doing a good business selling physical media in 2024. I hope that Nintendo and Sega catch on to that.
      How is Majuuou: King of Demons? I was tempted to order that but did not yet.

      At least with Dragon Warrior 1 and 2 we got a battery save and Japan had to deal with passwords. Well they could actually do official ROM hacks with quality of life improvements but with a lot of classic Nintendo games I'd just be happy with simple reissues.

    I have always liked having the physical copy in my hand but times have changed and it is more costly for these companies to produce the cartridges I'm sure rather than just downloading them, except for maybe the limited additions. Well there haven't been any mini consoles in a while. I think all of them sold quite well with the exception of the PlayStation classic.

    absolutely agree. and they would make so much money off of me. I have been saying this same thing for years.
    However, I want Nintendo to make a whole new actual 8 bit console. No FPGA, just pure 8 bit console like an NES, but perhaps even a bit better in ways that they can come up with, and then make all new games for that console, the way that they used to make games for NES.
    I am huge into the NES homebrew scene, and I love it, and I want Nintendo to start doing that again. I would pay virtually any price, and I would buy every game that Nintendo makes for such a console. It would be a dream come true for me if Nintendo would do this. I want more than just reissues of old NES games. I have all the good NES games. I don't need reissues- I want a whole new renaissance of 8-bit video game development.

    • @8bitjoystick
      @8bitjoystick  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@SamusGunship So apparently the NES and famicom was a little difficult to emulate the way that it recreates colors. And that's one of the reasons why there is no consistent color palette. And one of the reasons why all of these clone consoles have inconsistent colors. I currently have the Retro USB ABS and I love it. I mean I still play games on a CRT but I know that I'm in the extreme minority in doing so. I think that an fpga NES would be the quickest easiest way to get the kind of quality that Nintendo demands. But heck, if they wanted to make a new system that used authentic Nintendo, CPUs and ppus in an 8-pid system, I'd line up and buy that as well.

      @@8bitjoystick I havent been using the clone consoles so I dont know about those color problems. I only play on original NES and Famicom.
      Yeah, I'd be very happy if Nintendo made a hardware recreation of the NES and sold those again with a recreation of the games as well. But ideally, I would love if they made a whole new hardware 8 bit system.

    • @8bitjoystick
      @8bitjoystick  หลายเดือนก่อน

      So I really like the idea of the Atari 2600 plus, but I wish it was an fpga option instead of an emulator box. I would probably buy an emulator box but that played cartridges from Nintendo and Sega, but I would greatly prefer an fpga system

      The Atari 2600 plus uses a rockchip CPU and it runs a version of the Stella emulator. That's a really good choice. atari.com/products/atari-2600-plus#:~:text=Yes%2C%20the%20Atari%202600%2B%20uses,list%20of%20compatible%20games%20here.
      It is very impressive compatibility with original games but it doesn't run flashcarts.
      It would be an okay option if Nintendo and Sega would do this and they could even use the emulator that they used for their previous mini consoles. I would buy an emulator that could play cartridges, but I would prefer an fpga system for speed and accuracy.

    As much as I’d love this I feel like it would be ultimately pointless because it would only reprint already popular and common games. Now if they reprint let’s say rare or maybe Japan only games translated then it would do a great job at making those games more available and drive down the price. But if they reprint Zelda 1 then what is it gonna be like a 10 dollar decrease of value? An already popular and easy to find now even easier to find.

    • @8bitjoystick
      @8bitjoystick  หลายเดือนก่อน

      This would be uniquely beneficial to the US where we charge a hell of a lot too much for original Nintendo games. The Japanese retro game market is much more reasonable. Especially if you compare the prices of box copies of Mother 2 and Earthbound

    Nintendo wants you to rent certain games, and they want you to buy a switch. It's like Nintendo forget it's history. Maybe they don't want to admit they cart consoles are better than the switch. Sega I think got they don't want to touch it since they got burned with their last console. It would be epic if they did what Atari is doing but with real hardware.

    Old vinyl sounds better. My 1987 Def Leppard Hysteria album sounds so much better than cd and a million times better than mp3... flac is really good for lossless digital audio but vinyl has that analog warm feel to it like real marshall tube guitar amp. Also how the album was recorded plays into how they sound as well.

    • @8bitjoystick
      @8bitjoystick  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well, there's a fundamental difference between how an analogue record will recreate a sound wave and how digital reproduction off a CD would works.
      I recently got into collecting cassette tapes that I used to listen to as a teenager and I'm amazed at the different experience of playing a Nirvana album off tape versus digital. Both how it feels to have a physical copy of it but also the difference in ranges. The tape versions were mixed to sound good on tape.
      For an inherently digital media like retro video games, the experience of playing the game is the same whether it's an original Hardware, a reproduction, or an everdrive. However, the physical and emotional experience that you have with manipulating the media and putting it in the system is different.
      But to me putting an actual cartridge in is more fun than playing it off in everdrive or emulator.

      Exactly. And they could do this without using emulation. They also don't like it when people makes pirate cartridges of their old games. Well they should just make and sell their own cartridges of their own games and they wouldn't even have to use an emulator to do it. Nintendo sure gets upset when people pirate games that they haven't sold on physical cartridges in 3 decades.
