    My dad bought a 2002 Tundra back at the end of 2001. It has 220,000 miles on it, and I drive it quite often. Not only that, it also has almost no rust. It still has a very shiny black color. My dad plans on keeping it another 20 years. It will be a 40 year old truck with a 450,000 mile 4.7 V8!

    Thanks for being level-headed! I agree with all your comments hear. I bought a 2024 1794 limited edition a month ago before I heard about the problems with the 3rd gen. I owned a 2014 1794 for 10 years and am disappointed in Toyota for getting rid of the V8, but I have to say, I love the way the 2024 drives. But I’m also angry about changes like the quality control issues others are reporting, obviously the recall, and the engine shutting off an hour of sitting , and there’s no override. But it seems to me that the reactions on social media are legit and also may be skewing things. (I sympathize with anyone that has issues, then it’s personal). But, First, it’s usually recommended to not buy first or even second year vehicles. The first gen Tundra had issues after it’s release. And, there wasn’t social media back then. But the problems I’ve had so far at 1600 miles are: the tailgate will not open, mechanical problem not electrical. With the stock bed cover, I can’t access the bed. Waiting on my appointment to get fixed. 15 mpg and I don’t have a heavy foot. And, not sure yet if it’s my foot, but every so often, it feels like the transmission may be hunting for gears when taking off. I’ve never had a vehicle do that, so don’t know. Jon, please get in touch if you want status updates on this limited edition version.

    I don’t understand why anyone would buy a new Tundra when there are so many much better and more capable trucks out there for the same money.
    My truck of choice is a GMC Sierra 2500HD with the Duramax diesel and Allison transmission. It tows my 30’ Airstream without breaking a sweat and rear bumper and payload is much higher to handle heavy loads, When not towing I get 23 mpg highway from a truck with over 900 foot pounds of torque. The new Tundra is a tinker toy in comparison. My GMC has given me zero issues.

      I think you may be lumping them all into one category - it’s those affected by the recall that they typically won’t trade. I have a 24’ Limited that Liberty Toyota in Burlington NJ would let me trade back in a second. I have no plans to - I love it - but what you’re talking about seems to be the 22-23s affected. They can’t sell them, only new ones. @TRDJon is talking about buying new ones that would be hypothetically tradeable (assuming your dealership isn’t slimy).

    I’m a big Toyota fan but as a current 2017 tundra owner this new tundra was a huge letdown period they turned the old rugged tundra into a lowered quality replacement and Toyota doesn’t do tech well at all like GM or Ram I wish they would have focused on there fan base with reliability and well built drivetrains and usability.

  • @C-M-E
    @C-M-E 18 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

    Rather than plop on another engine issue analysis comment, I can explain the lack of tow hooks. They were on the initial truck design, but were nixxed due to conflicts with the air dam extension. Why they couldn't mount them on the frame extensions higher up and block them off with removable access panels... ? Yet another casualty of compromise.
    But because I can't leave well enough alone, nothing short of redesigning and rebuilding the crank girdle is going to fix these engines. Once again, a victim of trying to repurpose a car engine for truck use doesn't work that direction. I campaigned them to hybridize the 3UR with an electric motor on the flywheel, but lost that battle.

I was doomed😅. I really like this truck, it is the best of both worlds for me. I just hope Toyota stands behind there product?. I’m going to wait and see but right now I feel like I have a BMW or something, trade it before the warranty goes out…. I'm on my 4th Tundra, a 2018 Platinum. It looks like my last one if they keep making the trucks with too many components that could eventually fail. V6 engine, twin turbos, hybrid motor, hybrid battery, and all the components to make it all work.
