I appreciate this video. My husband ran for political office… need I say more. He handled the haters much better than I did. This will help me in the future. Thank you.

You seem like the last person to get hate and negative criticisms, given your personality, generosity, and talents! If I get hate, I shall remind myself that even Josh gets hate, and he's thriving beautifully! :D Thanks for sharing all these tips!

I figure I am the best piano player in a two block radius from my home. That is good enough for me.

People who give unsolicited advice, especially when they aren’t proficient, are quite special. It’s like they put themselves in a position above you. It’s very provoking.

Great video. I loved it and it brought back a concert I attended many years ago while I lived in Paris. I am an amateur pianist and would attend as many concerts as my time would allow. One evening I was listening to an artist who was playing several Beethoven sonatas as part of a series. A few in the audience booed. I was stunned and hurt as if it had been directed at me. The artist paused said something to the audience and continued playing. I have never forgotten that experience. Negativity has no place in our lives. I wonder if the people in the audience who booed him could play all 32 sonatas.
    You go Josh!❤

Josh's course helped me a lot matter-of-fact life-changing. I also use Sean Wilson course as I like to improve my ear training. Before using Josh course I struggled a lot to complete piano studies and most teacher's just tell you to practice but never how to practice.

great video! cool to see you bring up stoicism. Especially the 'accepting what is within your control' aspect definitely applies here. And how other people react to what you put online certainly is not within one control.

Josh, I have found your video's excellent....if I didn't I could walk away and find someone else! If a person listens to you and then spews vitriol on you, to me it means they are frustrated with the chaos in the world and they feel powerless to change things to be what they want......so they lash out in anger, or to try and manipulate another person to gain back some control. It's a really sad world when someone can't say to themselves "Oh well, that's not for me, there's plenty of fish in the sea, I'll go find someone else" ....the internet is teeming with musicians and as a flautist I have tried following so many but have narrowed it down to just 2-3 who suit the way my brain learns....You sound very wise and appear to have learnt some lifelong truths about how to deal with angry people....well done you....keep on playing.....!

In addition, for many times, especially when videos bring tips of any kind, I feel better and more confident for knowing that some challenges I face and experience happen not only with me, and watching your videos really help me a lot, so I don't give up! Thanks again and congratulation for everything!😃

Not really related, but I think it would be interesting to comment. I think that some hate comes from Schadenfreude. Not sure, as I've just learned about it recently, but I think that understanding the biases of human behavior sometimes help in coping with stuff.

I handed out awards for horseback riding competition, there was one athlete hard on himself, from my experience of horseback competition & lessons for 20 years. I watched his performance then afterwards I said, this has nothing to do with self worth, the goal is to have fun. Fantastic job.

You're absolutely right about not letting rando comments get to you/us, especially from the cheap seats, like that "Rach 3 Expert" guy. Sadly, the post-Simon Cowell age has made it fashionable for random anonymous people to offer "feedback" about someone else's work without ever having put in the work themselves, which is why I check for sub and post counts. btw, pinball's also a pretty good way to blow off steam and to channel your energy, and as a bonus, two pinball machines that I know of quote a bit of Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D Minor.

Its always funny to hear your personal hate stories considering how much respect you get and how respectful you are in general haha. Currently at 13:43, just wanted to pop in and say this, and also lets not forget how well you always present yourself. I find it absolutely comical and hilarious that you get any hate comments at all, and each time i hear a hate comment youve gotten or some random person trying to give you advice, I cant help but laugh considering how proficient of a musician you are. Maybe one time you could do a video where you just react to some hate comments. I find them incredibly goofy.

The most hate I've ever seen any pianist receive is a beauty pageant contestant who played a Chopin scherzo for the talent portion of the contest. The level of hate for this woman is unreal and almost otherworldly. It's so painful just to read comments even if I have no idea who this woman is. I don't know her name, but you can find the video if you search the terms "Showpan" and "sharzo" here on youtube.

Hate speech is either a form of envy, but most probably selfhate because of mobbing or something else bothering them and projecting their bad experiences with their emotions. In the internet there are tons of hate comments, because it's maybe some people being unhappy with themselves at a time of the day maybe, attractive "anonymity", it's world wide and get's a bit attention (also from the other gender which is probably connected with an ancient program in the brain of showing some sort of toughness while a woman is present and in a fight or flight situation), maybe their pet has died, it could be a little kid mad about not getting a ps5, whatever. I wouldn't bother at all if reading such, it's not worth the time - rather it should be advised to either ignore such comments, because first I think really evil people are rather seldom and they probably don't mean it at all, but unload their bad emotions in the internet to somehow deal with them and second it's important to show younger people that speaking or writing hateful is just not worth the time because you can't accomplish really anything with it except maybe a bit attention to then realize it doesn't get you anywhere - instead, the work on yourself get's you where you really want to be. On public social media it's pretty bad sometimes and on twitter i's very common, which is why I don't have it any longer... in rl I'd show a bit empathy with such people and then distance myself, but on the internet... sometimes maybe, but usually it's not worth the time, since they might not even see the reply
