I stopped social media 2 years ago. I spend time every morning reading, praying and Journaling. I work out 5 days a week. I cut back on alcohol. I am careful with what "junk food" is going into my mind. I also do a lot of creative hobbies or things that help settle the mind such as diamond art, puzzles, reading books, painting, strategic board games. Go explore a new hobby. Take a class. Learn something new! I always encourage people to ask themselves "what value does this add to my life?" Creating good healthy habits for mind, body, soul is important. My hope is that my children see HOW I live, not just what I preach. If you're reading this, try just implementing one healthy habit and each week add something else while eliminating the unhealthy habits. You can do it!!!!

One of the biggest problems in this digital age is that there is too much information that is easily accessible, and it is very easy to become overwhelmed (paralysis by analysis). Its like the person who is always researching about the best workout, outfit, exercise splits, diet, etc and haven’t even bothered to walk a mile. Start where you are!
We are overloaded for sure with information. Last Sunday I left my phone in the house and sat on my deck for two hours. I just listened to the birds, watched the deer and petted my dog. It was liberating. I am purposely setting my phone somewhere where I really have to make an effort to go get it, instead of keeping it in my pocket. I grew up with landlines and no answering machine. The world did not end if I missed something.
all technocrap goes through the fad phase, the iphone is no different. When laptops first appeared many went crazy for them for no useful reason. After a few years they almost died out. Only making them thinner, lighter and more portable did they get attention. But I hardly see anyone using on the train any more. Same will happen with iphones. They are all complaining they're now lonely. The world is suffering from global solitary confinement and distraction.
Let me share something.....I have sat on my bed and watched intently, listened actively and implementing right now.......I have never once watched a 1 hour video in 1 succession....today I have watched this show 2.5 hours a long without moving off my bed....my motivation is to become better....my belief is I can and I will and my method is to do stop thinking about it and start doing. Same haha. What I do recently is get Bluetooth headphone. When I go toilet I don't take the phone I just take the headphones and listen to podcast whilst 💩. It's much better than getting poop particles on my phone 😂

Always remember that it only gets easier. At first its like pushing the ball up the hill - its painful and frustrating - this is where most ppl just give up. You also have to be really patient with yourself. Remember the microsteps. It may be difficult for you to make these changes bc of the overstimulation from all of the media bombarding is everyday. On top of that not everyone experienced the Pandemic the same. Some people thrived, while a lot of us got thrown off our axis. It sounds like that may have happened to you as it did to me. Keep asking yourself helpful questions, take yourself gently by the hand, and remind yourself that it's okay to take micro actions. It's okay. You are only in competition with yourself. Just keep trying. Every single day. You WILL get there, you’re not on any schedule or competing with anyone for self improvement. Maybe pick 1 habit at a time each month or so, or even one part of a habit that will help build the others (ie atomic habits). Like going to sleep earlier as the priority, as the linchpin. Even being a fraction better is IMPROVEMENT! so keep going ❤🙏🏾

it's a bugger to take a sidebar every five minutes and your flow is excellent but at 18:00 "success" I would say is just being happy, making others around you happy or cared about or respected etc., however, some people define success as money, of course they're the opposite of enlightened. only halfway thru the video but it's great so far. I was feeling so uncomfortable with how my life was going. I have a phone addiction but I realized that I used it for comfort so that I don’t feel as lonely. You know the feeling of being around people and still feeling alone? Thank you for this video, it helped answering many of my concerns. I hear you... Every single sentence is a description of me. I’ve made some steps in a last few days to change trajectory of my life and deleted all the apps that I was glued to. It is so weird to see myself picking up the phone and following the pattern to open those apps for no reason at all. One of the things I have still tendency to do is opening new tab in the browser and checking the weather (from my bookmarks). This morning I checked my email on full autopilot probably at least 5 times, tried to open IG (deleted) multiple times, I opened 6 blank tabs and 4 weather tabs, and when I noticed I have all those tabs open I realised I still have no clue about the weather, or emails… I’m on 11 minutes of this video and had to go back 2 times. Also last 3 minutes I have no idea what was said. I spent all my free time staring at the screen. It feels like my life lost any meaning. Addiction stole my life. Time to get it back. As for feeling lonely - loneliness is not cured by presence of others. Searching for others, for their approval, attention etc is a sole reason for loneliness to exist. It is a side effect. We crave people so we feel lack. If we don’t crave them, we can’t feel lack. Best cure for me was to stop searching for approval from others. No one is really able to give full understanding to another as long as one is scared of rejection. Best is to spend time, a lot of time with yourself and watch all of your emerging patterns, don’t supress them, give them time, accept their existence. Be gentle with yourself, don’t reject any part that comes up. You really don’t have to acomplish anything, you deserve love the way you are, with all your faults. Don’t ever feel guilty for being not perfect. Allow yourself to love yourself, with all imperfections. That last thing may change your life❤

I listened for 20 minutes, paused the video, grabbed my journal and a pen, started the video again and took copious notes!! The wisdom flowing from this man was incredible and he spoke with such gentleness and kindness and wisdom that I just had to record all the things that stood out to me! 10 pages of notes later!!! Becoming a mother and raising a 4 year old has made me way less active on my phone. I don’t do morning scrolls or unlimited screen time. I just use my phone when I need to text or call and basically that’s it… when I drive I like to listen to videos such as this. Honestly having kids slows you down in the best way possible. For a while when my daughter was young I was pretty addicted to Instagram, & I regret that so much I wish I could go back. Now I try to give her all of me and my phone stays in the room. I recently deleted Instagram and it’s so nice without the distraction. I don’t bring it out unless I need to look at a cooking recipe. I just realized in this day and age parenting is different. I was born in 1997 so all that technology and distraction is constantly around me now as an adult and I don’t want my daughter to experience that.
I agree with you, my son is 2 and I had to deliberately delete instagram, I got off facebook a few years ago. And you are so right when we were growing up we saw our parents using their phones to speak to people now a days I always have EarPods in. I had to realize that I have to take a step back from reality and do a lot more physical things with him. I had to purposely write because when working or anything else I'm tying on a computer. Nothing has to be manual
I am so lucky and proud to be born and studied in Babylon ( Iraq). We are still practicing getting up early with the sun rise and sleep with sun set . The guest is great he is well read .Philosophy is a very important part of learning and understanding life.
This was a great podcast. I'm a 64 years-old female. I do exercises everyday including yoga on Saturdays and Sundays. I try my best to eat healthy, making sure that I take my supplements. I walk more than 10,000 steps daily. However, these postmenopausal years are horrible when it comes to sleep, motivation and attention span. Due to hormonal changes, of course. I haven't be able to finish a book in years. That's why I don't buy books anymore. Having sleep apnea does not help either. I would love to listen to a similar podcast, focus on postmenopausal women. In recovery from alcohol for many years and yet it was only when I admitted that thinking was my greatest addiction that a deeper dimension within me was able to be accessed. Recognizing thinking is habitual/and an act of doing and that the thoughts in my head were actually energetic life forms that have to live too (yet not who I AM ) did I experience relief/peace. Finding portals to presence and periods of no thought began to declutter and create a space/gap wherein just being arose in a cultural climate where everything points to do, do, do and avoid silence/stillness at all costs. We’re required to utilize messaging, emails and chats too. It is beyond multitasking and it can be very stressful. 🙄when off work, Unplugging from social media is a very good idea.❤

1:29 - This is the #1 coaching tip I give my executive clients - professional folk with a 'to do' list a mile long - I share that the list has no 'time' component and thus will likely never get done, however if you schedule your activities in your diary you are more likely to get them done, it frees your mind from having to remember a host of things and if you take some time at the end of each day to check your scheduling quality - did something take twice as long as you anticipated? - then you get quite good at it. My clients report a clear headedness and calmness that they weren't expecting - this is usually because they didn't realise how much stuff they were trying to keep in their active memory.

All day at work there are notifications. Even when I try to mute Teams it doesnt listen. If I turn teams off to try to focus I get into trouble for away time. Outlook is also going nonstop. That is before the real world distractions even begin.

Learning to be dysfunctional as a child will mess up your life. The harsh inner critic will hold you back. You have to develop a positive voice and not listen to the negative voice. I find healing my inner child is key to be present. I do love yoga, meditation, tapping with exercise to release negative energy in body and positive affirmations. I also release to a higher power. It is helping. I do like coaching and therapy. I use 12 step groups too. I want to break my misery. Learning to love yourself. I learned to care for everyone else.

As a student of life with ADHD, i have 100s of tabs open at one time. I started doing vocabulary word of the day with my son, to apply what i was learning in real life. Once upon a time, if I drove somewhere, I would "feel confident" that I could repeat the journey at any time in the future. I don't get that feeling if I use satnav. It's like in the past I was constantly tracking my position, but with satnav, you only know what the next turn is. I have also learnt to ignore the sense of anxiety of not knowing where I am whilst on the journey that I had when I first started using satnav.
Personal suffering isn't the only concern. Just seeing the world around them and what it takes to survive everyday for most people would be enough to consider not being here or bringing anyone else here. How people make babies in warzones is a thing that puzzles me a little as well

I watched one of your other videos where you were saying how the first thing in the morning is an important time and decided to start this morning differently. So, instead of laying in bed for 10-15 mins after my first alarm and scrolling on my phone, I got up right away. Didn’t look at my phone until I got into work and found this video to watch. I’ll say that even on the first day changing my routine, I feel significantly better. I am going to be more conscious of this and do things that are not technology related going forward. Now I have a strong urge to go buy myself a puzzle to put together 😄

I don't know if you are familiar with the youth organization 4-H that has been around in rural communities for over 100 years. The founder A. B. Graham named the club for the four H's "Head, Heart, Hands, and Health." Every morning I walk 6 miles listen 30min audio book 30min church sermon and 30min catholic music. This has changed my life because my day at work is so much better for the whole day.

He replied it’s a family name but I’m not sure the meaning. On break I Googled Otho, it’s German and means wealthy. So as I was going to my next table game, I stopped and told my customer what his name definition is. His smile was wide and bright. I have severe ADHD since my birth, overstimulation is my life and I feel totaly OK with that. Overstimulation is not a bad thing as long as you feel confortable with that. Don't be arsh on yourself, if you cannot live your life without stimulation don't try to force your mind. Just be yourself !

I stopped social media 2 years ago. I spend time every morning reading, praying and Journaling. I work out 5 days a week. I cut back on alcohol. I am careful with what "junk food" is going into my mind. I also do a lot of creative hobbies or things that help settle the mind such as diamond art, puzzles, reading books, painting, strategic board games. Go explore a new hobby. Take a class. Learn something new! I always encourage people to ask themselves "what value does this add to my life?" Creating good healthy habits for mind, body, soul is important. My hope is that my children see HOW I live, not just what I preach. If you're reading this, try just implementing one healthy habit and each week add something else while eliminating the unhealthy habits. You can do it!!!!

One of the biggest problems in this digital age is that there is too much information that is easily accessible, and it is very easy to become overwhelmed (paralysis by analysis). Its like the person who is always researching about the best workout, outfit, exercise splits, diet, etc and haven’t even bothered to walk a mile. Start where you are!
You’re so right. It's important to take action rather than getting lost in endless information. Starting small can lead to great changes.
We are overloaded for sure with information. Last Sunday I left my phone in the house and sat on my deck for two hours. I just listened to the birds, watched the deer and petted my dog. It was liberating. I am purposely setting my phone somewhere where I really have to make an effort to go get it, instead of keeping it in my pocket. I grew up with landlines and no answering machine. The world did not end if I missed something.
Youre so lucky to have a view. Imagine all the people in apartments who have no balcony, no deck, no backyard, just indoors 24/7. Enjoy it.

Jim Kwik's last line made me so emotional, it brought tears in my eyes. For 2 years now I've been struggling to grow and become the best version of myself but it's incredibly so difficult. I'm truly struggling to change even the basic or the easiest habits like sleeping on time and waking up early. Even just exercising is frustratingly difficult to achieve. This podcast is truly inspiring and encouraging. Thank you!
Always remember that it only gets easier. At first its like pushing the ball up the hill - its painful and frustrating - this is where most ppl just give up. But if u can stick through that initial difficulty it only gets easier. Eventually the ball gets to the top of the hill and then its all downhill from there. Hope this helps, GL Katherine.
You also have to be really patient with yourself. Remember the microsteps. It may be difficult for you to make these changes bc of the overstimulation from all of the media bombarding is everyday. On top of that not everyone experienced the Pandemic the same. Some people thrived, while a lot of us got thrown off our axis. It sounds like that may have happened to you as it did to me. Keep asking yourself helpful questions, take yourself gently by the hand, and remind yourself that it's okay to take micro actions. It's okay. You are only in competition with yourself. I wish you all of the patience & perseverance. 💖🐉🌿✨
Just keep trying. Every single day. You WILL get there, you’re not on any schedule or competing with anyone for self improvement. Maybe pick 1 habit at a time each month or so, or even one part of a habit that will help build the others (ie atomic habits). Like going to sleep earlier as the priority, as the linchpin. Even being a fraction better is IMPROVEMENT! so keep going ❤🙏🏾

I was feeling so uncomfortable with how my life was going. I have a phone addiction but I realized that I used it for comfort so that I don’t feel as lonely. You know the feeling of being around people and still feeling alone? Thank you for this video, it helped answering many of my concerns. I will be separating myself from my phone and healing my inner child trauma.
I hear you... Every single sentence is a description of me. I’ve made some steps in a last few days to change trajectory of my life and deleted all the apps that I was glued to. It is so weird to see myself picking up the phone and following the pattern to open those apps for no reason at all. One of the things I have still tendency to do is opening new tab in the browser and checking the weather (from my bookmarks). This morning I checked my email on full autopilot probably at least 5 times, tried to open IG (deleted) multiple times, I opened 6 blank tabs and 4 weather tabs, and when I noticed I have all those tabs open I realised I still have no clue about the weather, or emails…
I’m on 11 minutes of this video and had to go back 2 times. Also last 3 minutes I have no idea what was said.
I spent all my free time staring at the screen. It feels like my life lost any meaning. Addiction stole my life. Time to get it back.
As for feeling lonely - loneliness is not cured by presence of others. Searching for others, for their approval, attention etc is a sole reason for loneliness to exist. It is a side effect. We crave people so we feel lack. If we don’t crave them, we can’t feel lack. Best cure for me was to stop searching for approval from others. No one is really able to give full understanding to another as long as one is scared of rejection. Best is to spend time, a lot of time with yourself and watch all of your emerging patterns, don’t supress them, give them time, accept their existence. Be gentle with yourself, don’t reject any part that comes up. You really don’t have to acomplish anything, you deserve love the way you are, with all your faults. Don’t ever feel guilty for being not perfect. Allow yourself to love yourself, with all imperfections. That last thing may change your life❤

I stopped watching "the news" two years ago. The best decision i ever made. No socia media, no mainstream news. bliss.
Becoming a mother and raising a 4 year old has made me way less active on my phone. I don’t do morning scrolls or unlimited screen time. I just use my phone when I need to text or call and basically that’s it… when I drive I like to listen to videos such as this. Honestly having kids slows you down in the best way possible. For a while when my daughter was young I was pretty addicted to Instagram, & I regret that so much I wish I could go back. Now I try to give her all of me and my phone stays in the room. I recently deleted Instagram and it’s so nice without the distraction. I don’t bring it out unless I need to look at a cooking recipe. I just realized in this day and age parenting is different. I was born in 1997 so all that technology and distraction is constantly around me now as an adult and I don’t want my daughter to experience that.
I agree with you, my son is 2 and I had to deliberately delete instagram, I got off facebook a few years ago. And you are so right when we were growing up we saw our parents using their phones to speak to people now a days I always have EarPods in. I had to realize that I have to take a step back from reality and do a lot more physical things with him. I had to purposely write because when working or anything else I'm tying on a computer. Nothing has to be manual

This was a great podcast. I'm a 64 years-old female. I do exercises everyday including yoga on Saturdays and Sundays. I try my best to eat healthy, making sure that I take my supplements. I walk more than 10,000 steps daily. However, these postmenopausal years are horrible when it comes to sleep, motivation and attention span. Due to hormonal changes, of course. I haven't be able to finish a book in years. That's why I don't buy books anymore. Having sleep apnea does not help either. I would love to listen to a similar podcast, focus on postmenopausal women. In recovery from alcohol for many years and yet it was only when I admitted that thinking was my greatest addiction that a deeper dimension within me was able to be accessed. Recognizing thinking is habitual/and an act of doing and that the thoughts in my head were actually energetic life forms that have to live too (yet not who I AM ) did I experience relief/peace. Finding portals to presence and periods of no thought began to declutter and create a space/gap wherein just being arose in a cultural climate where everything points to do, do, do and avoid silence/stillness at all costs. This video resonates for me out of its pure humility, simplicity and earnestness-thank you to both of you as the words are ALIVE and point away from falling below thought to rise above 🙏🏻

Right on point with this discussion. My workplace is inundated with pings, zings and all kinds of digital things, alerts while handling phone calls with customers. We’re required to utilize messaging, emails and chats too. It is beyond multitasking and it can be very stressful. 🙄when off work, Unplugging from social media is a very good idea.❤

1:29 - This is the #1 coaching tip I give my executive clients - professional folk with a 'to do' list a mile long - I share that the list has no 'time' component and thus will likely never get done, however if you schedule your activities in your diary you are more likely to get them done, it frees your mind from having to remember a host of things and if you take some time at the end of each day to check your scheduling quality - did something take twice as long as you anticipated? - then you get quite good at it. My clients report a clear headedness and calmness that they weren't expecting - this is usually because they didn't realise how much stuff they were trying to keep in their active memory.

I'm certain that what I've heard here will have a great impact in my life, but I'd love to hear more about the influence of social media/ phones on our brains and specially how to stop using SM so much. That's my main struggle.

I would like to add something important, compassion was touched on briefly here. That is extremely important. Please do not compare your self to the stories mentioned here. Everyone has a different story. Don’t think, “my story isn’t as horrible as some mentioned here today but I still can’t get it together. What’s wrong with me?” Have compassion for yourself. Your feelings are valid. You’ve gone through and are going through some things. Let’s now learn how to overcome it. Focus on your own journey and don’t compare yourself to anyone else’s.

Learning to be dysfunctional as a child will mess up your life. The harsh inner critic will hold you back. You have to develop a positive voice and not listen to the negative voice. I find healing my inner child is key to be present. I do love yoga, meditation, tapping with exercise to release negative energy in body and positive affirmations. I also release to a higher power. It is helping. I do like coaching and therapy. I use 12 step groups too. I want to break my misery. Learning to love yourself. I learned to care for everyone else.

"digital deluge" is so real for me. As a student of life with ADHD, i have 100s of tabs open at one time. I started doing vocabulary word of the day with my son, to apply what i was learning in real life. I find so many subject/topics intriguing but i lack the focus & concentration to follow through/finish researching and/or absord it completely.
We all just need to slow down. Baby steps.
Last year I was working full time budgeting groceries, unable to afford date nights, and missing time with my kids. Now I learn how to make money online. Now I'm a SAHM, homeschooling and making profits every week.
Investing in alternate income streams should be the top priority for everyone right now especially given the global economic crisis we are currently experiencing, Stocks, gold, silver, and virtual currencies are still attractive investments at the moment.
Having a job doesn't mean security rather having different investments is the real deal

Once upon a time, if I drove somewhere, I would "feel confident" that I could repeat the journey at any time in the future. I don't get that feeling if I use satnav.
It's like in the past I was constantly tracking my position, but with satnav, you only know what the next turn is.
I have also learnt to ignore the sense of anxiety of not knowing where I am whilst on the journey that I had when I first started using satnav.
Personal suffering isn't the only concern. Just seeing the world around them and what it takes to survive everyday for most people would be enough to consider not being here or bringing anyone else here. How people make babies in warzones is a thing that puzzles me a little as well

I watched one of your other videos where you were saying how the first thing in the morning is an important time and decided to start this morning differently. So, instead of laying in bed for 10-15 mins after my first alarm and scrolling on my phone, I got up right away. Didn’t look at my phone until I got into work and found this video to watch. I’ll say that even on the first day changing my routine, I feel significantly better. I am going to be more conscious of this and do things that are not technology related going forward. Now I have a strong urge to go buy myself a puzzle to put together 😄

I don't know if you are familiar with the youth organization 4-H that has been around in rural communities for over 100 years. The founder A. B. Graham named the club for the four H's "Head, Heart, Hands, and Health." He replied it’s a family name but I’m not sure the meaning. On break I Googled Otho, it’s German and means wealthy. So as I was going to my next table game, I stopped and told my customer what his name definition is. His smile was wide and bright. Otho shook my hand and said, thank you for taking the time to “ pay attention to my name.”

I have severe ADHD since my birth, overstimulation is my life and I feel totaly OK with that. Overstimulation is not a bad thing as long as you feel confortable with that. Don't be arsh on yourself, if you cannot live your life without stimulation don't try to force your mind. Just be yourself !
