Hi I’m Rick Shiels, welcome to my channel RickShielsPGAGolf. This TH-cam channel is designed to help you play better golf, also to help you enjoy your golf more!
I specialise in golf club reviews, golf club unboxing, golf club news, golf club head to heads, and all about golf clubs.
I also want to make you play better golf by providing coaching video on all topics about golf, how to fix your slice, fix your hook, help you drive the golf ball longer, hit your irons more pure, hit your irons closer to the hole and help you draw and fade your golf shots.
I will also help you lower your score by chipping better by stopping you duff and thin chips, pitch the ball closer and also create backspin. Also I will provide you help to putt better and hole more putts!
On this channel I also make fun and entertaining golf content based on crazy and sometimes “gimmicky” golf clubs. I like to cut through the marketing hype about products and I like to give you the honest truth about golf equipment.

What’s the main differences between the spider ghost and spider tour?
Why doesn’t anyone talk about face balance or toe hang in putter reviews? I assume that these new putters will be available in a range of options in that regard? Nice little review though Rick….👍
Did they tell you not to talk about previous generations because it is exactly the same? I just bought a used spider tour for $100 and its the exact same.

Changed to a Spider X this year after trying my son’s Tour version. Game changer. Was aka ‘Harry Potter’s Wand’ as the accuracy vs my previous blade style putters was in a different league. Had to change my style a little, and grip much more loosely to allow it to do it’s thing. When I relax and believe in it, it’s really very forgiving.
This spider design has always been Taylormade’s best putter the fact that they added the alignment line makes it even better.
I have always thought they are dead ugly, but I thought I would try one and see what all the fuss is about. Now I know they are dead ugly and horrible to use as well. I much prefer Odyssey.
one thing I do miss in your putter review are the balance... Toehanged or facebalanced? For me thats one important thing with a putter.
Know it's logistically difficult, but it's a shame that almost all putter reviews don't put the focus on speed control rather then just trying to make short, and usually straight, putts. Speed control is much more important than making putts, and probably more influenced by the type of putter.
I thought you putted better with the Adams that you reviewed.
Taylormade putters have been the same for 10 years. They're re-launching the same stuff and just bumping the price each time. Nothing new, not a lot of innovation. At the end of each season, you'll get their most premium putter at less than half price.

I think you should look at LAB putters. They should be in contention for the bag.
The thing I’ve found about the Spyder putters are they feel hard hitting the ball. I’ve used Scotty Cameron’s my entire life and they just seem to feel much softer.
Get a custom made spider putter that way u can change the insert to a softer insert (surlyn) over a firm(aluminium)insert,I did that as I have a spider gt max and that has a firm face and my custom one has a soft face

I don't think the Spyder has loads of wins because it's a perfect putter, I mean it's a very good one no doubt.
I think it has so much success because TaylorMade tends to sponsor the best athletes in the sport. And of course, the best athletes are still going to win regardless of what putter they are using as long as it good enough.
I think it's more telling that very few PGA players choose to use TaylorMade putters if they are not contractually obligated to, most choose Odyssey or Scotty Cameron.
Furthermore, there are TaylorMade players who have signed club deals with TaylorMade who still choose not to use TaylorMade putters.
a putter is a putter, whatever feels good in your hand is the best putter for you! I have made lots of putts in my years using Callaway to scotty putters! whatever feels good in your hand is the best for you. try them all!
I had an old spyder putter as a rental when I was in Hawaii and was immediately enjoying it! I have an Odyssey 2 ball in the bag now and it would be hard to give it up since I absolutely love it, but if I did, it would more than likely be for a Spyder.
Went from a Newport 2 to the Spider X Hydroblast circa 2021 and never looked back. Is it aesthetically pleasing over the blade, no. But you cannot deny the performance. Alignment is easier, its forgiving on mishits, and distance control is better. Reason why many pros have switched to a mallet style putter. Great vid as always Rick! Cheers🍻

Taylormade needs these putters with interchangeable face materials. Excellent for direction control, HORRENDOUS speed control with Plastic inserts. Give me THAT HEAD, with a Steel flat face or OPTIONS
$349.99 No thanks, club providers act like auto manufactures. I can see in 5 years you'll have to takeout a mortgage to buy cubs. Golf is in for a hard fall due to GREED!!!

For me personally, anytime I go to a PGA superstore or Golf Galaxy...I putt a few with it - and it just feels so darn light. Almost like I cannot feel the head. Just me - sure many many people like that!
Is it just me or was the audio terrible for this video? Could hear every single breath he took and was very peaky at times.Maybe the fact he was speaking with head facing down for some of it really off putting... No pun intended...
TaylorMade is a better marketing company than golf equipment company.
I’m using a hickory putter I carved myself 30 years ago. Who needs a putter that aims well and sinks putts.
The main reason why I would not game a Spider is the poor quality of the paint. The paint/finish seems to always flake off and looks horrendous. I’ll stick with my Phantom.
I just can't into mallet putters. I've tried them and, well, I just don't like them. I think too many years with anser style ones but I just putt better with that style. I shouldn't, but I do. But the Spyders are pretty and probably very helpful to a good many golfers.
Love my 6 year old Spider X but would I swap it for a Phantom X 5.5? Yes! In a heartbeat!!! I am a golf tart.
I know its preference but would you say this is better or almost better than the Scotty Cameron phantom 2024?
I have no idea how reasonable a request this is... but it would be cool to see you review the PING PLD custom putters/ process of fitting and customizing. Maybe going out to Scottsdale in person would be off the table, but they still offer an "online, remote" fitting process.

The previous iterations had AWFUL paint/finish chipping and peeling issues.

I switched to putting left-handed a couple of years back (still play right handed with rest of clubs). My putting improved a lot in so far as I didn’t constantly feel like I was going to pull my putts as I used to. However, there were still times when I made what I felt was a good strike but the ball did not seem to start on the line I was aiming. So I purchased a TaylorMade Spyder EX and it has transformed my putting. Best putters out there in my view.
It would be good to see what kind of hang the putters have, after all different strokes require different hangs.
I'll stick with my Odyssey Two Ball Triple Track Putter

looks like they went back to the warehouse a took out the ones that didn't sell from a few years ago resprayed and created marketing hype and off ya go ..best putter of all time. Naa for that price..
If you can’t read greens or putt the ball where you’re aiming does it really matter what putter you use…🤔🤔 ya not so much….
Never been a Spider fan. Tried 2 now and they are very clicky, I have no touch with them.
I have a Spider and had it for a long time I borrowed my brothers Scottie for a few holes and I would still have a spider over it.
Get yourself a lab putter ! Review rhe mezz and df3 surely!

Just put the Scotty in your bag. You even said it yourself you have more feel with it.
Love the idea. I have had scotties and oddessey putters in the past and much prefer my spider. Extremely forgiving and easy to line up

I like the shape of the Spider X. It's in between the two you tested; the one Rory putts with. These aren't available stateside until the end of Oct. Maybe a Halloween thing.
In my opinion, there are many putters that are better than the spider. Tried the spiders don't like them, will never be in my bag.

Spiders are excellent putters but no real need to pay for brand new when there’s so many used models

Two questions:-
1. How can they charge £300 for a putter that was £169 at one point not long ago?
2. Does the paint stay on these and not flake off, unlike taylormades other non milled putters?

I went and hit all the models at my local Golf Galaxy and ended up ordering the Z3 with a slant neck. Face balanced putters got left for me but I tried them all out and yes...they went left of target. Then I tried the Tour and X version in a slant neck but the weight placement didn't really compliment my stroke. The V was ok but the Z....now that was sexy. holed 16/16 from 3, 6, 9, and 12'. Made me question why I'm not using a 34" putter when I'm 6'6". Hope it rolls just as well with my custom specs. Time will tell.

Have gone from White Hot Blade to Spider FCG and now an Spider X. Have liked them all and swear alot of it is down to feel of pure roll face. The alignment on the Spiders is awesome. Really clear to get square with ball, putter feet and get it bang on line.
How does it compare with the FCG? Really considering the FCG as I am a blade lover and need the alignment of the spider, not too fussed with forgiveness... seems like the FCG is the perfect for me but open to other options

Would you ever do a review on different putter shafts? Compare Stability, LA Golf, Mitsubishi MMT, etc and see if you feel differences and if it’s worth the price

I give a _____ about the look, for me its all about how it feel the putter give me, looks comes secund. I play my old Heavyputter midweight for the 12th year, it was briefly out for a Evenroll murdered black, that I sold, didnt have the right feel.
Most memorable spider moment was possibly Garcia holing that put to win the 2017 US masters 😬🙌🏼

Most expensive putter I’ve bought but well worth it. I went with goose neck version of the Tour. So stable as the CG is the furthest back for the range.
