  • Check out the new Diamond Mounter merch!
    cbilton.creato... I had started an experimental piece that was not going to be featured on the channel. I just want to try something out for myself.
    I decided that the piece I was making itself wasn't enough for the channel but the actual idea and action of making it was so decided to feature it.
    This is not my usual type of upload. Im not trying to teach anything here but I do want to encourage practicing jewellers to experiment and stretch their skills and abilities.
    In the video I show the kind of thing I get up to when just 'mucking about at the bench'
    I was having fun but I was also simultaneously learning lots about stone positions, joining collets together, putting different shape stones together, claw work, setting etc and those were just the things I knew I was getting myself in to. As it all came together lots of extra design possibilities became clear to me that I had never even considered.
    It was a great learning experience and I recommend you do similar things in your spare time at the bench!

    Check out the new Diamond Mounter side channel!
    Its called 'Diamond Mounter Clips'
    Its compiled of short clips taken from previous videos to
    highlight useful techniques and information I was teaching.
    No intros, no outros just straight to the essence of what
    was useful in the video!
    Im on Patreon!
    With patrons support I will be able to offer far more information than I am currently able to.
    With nearly 25 years of knowledge gained in the jewellery trade working with some of the best diamond mounters in the UK I can train practitioners of jewellery making, up to and far beyond the skill level found in High Street jewellers workshops.
    Become a classic patron you will not only be able to view part 2 of full instructional guides but also be thanked personally on the next youtube upload! You will also have access to all future uploads 2 weeks before they go live on youtube.
    Official patrons have all the benefits of a classic patron but also gain access to regular exclusive content. Behind the scenes, personal jewellery projects Im working on, I share ideas for future videos, photos and stories from throughout my career as a professional jeweller.
    Also Official patrons are welcome to suggest ideas for future videos and contact me anytime if they need advice for their own jewellery making endeavors.
    Classic patronage is just £5 a month and to become Official costs only £10 a month making Diamond Mounter patronage by far the best value way to gain access to online jewellery making courses.
    As the number of full instructional guides continues to grow the value will be even more considerable.
    www.patreon.co...
    There is now an entry level tier which costs just £1 a month.
    Its named the supporter tier which allows you to support the channel with out any substantial financial obligation. I will thank you personally on the next Diamond Mounter video uploaded.
    I have been lucky enough to have been taught by some of the UKs most accomplished diamond mounters and my ambition is to share what I have learned through out my career to as many people as possible.
    My vehicle to do this is the Diamond Mounter TH-cam channel.
    If you appreciate the video content and find the information useful then why not become a patron and support its growth!

    Making it like a coronet cluster would be cool. Each marquee shape replacing multiple stones means you couldn't scallop them as normal but it would give it height and make it perfectly round. 👍👍👍 cool idea for cufflinks.

    Worked four and a half years precessional jeweler after school for it. Doing the same thing being creative and having fun now. That’s what many of us lose in school and as profession comes in to the picture. One of my favorite videos of your so far. I laugh and say it’s a hobby now;)

    8 minutes in and you dropped some real wisdom. Thats the struggle to maintain that original freedom and creativity in your work.

      Children will naturally make play time a priority. Its instinctive behavior. Therefore there must be something especially developmental in playing. Being creative and having fun must be a key way to develop and learn? I think it is.

    Dude thanks. I have been teaching myself this craft over the past year. I have learned so much jist from watching TH-cam videos. I have seen some nice earings and pendents with that design.

    It’s great to watch how you can put something like that together without really putting much effort into it! Turned out really nice in my opinion. I am getting more and more into stone setting these days at work, so I love watching your videos. Very inspiring!

    Quit putting yourself down laddie! We all have a bit of fektard in us and you're human like the rest of us. That looks incredible! I smushed a rather large jasper today putting what I thought was gentle pressure on the claws..... if I had half your skill or talent I'd be well made up! You've taught me a lot over the last year. From opal cutter to having my own shop. Ok i've not sold anything yet BUT I'm in it for the long haul and I love it! Your ideas work trust me! We're all grateful for your videos! Keep up the good work Chris x

    I picture a line of pave on the inside of the Marquis' stones and then a pave halo all around perhaps. A bit blingy, but then again it's a bit blingy already! Excellent adventure Chris!

    i think it's helpful to watch professionals "wing it" because you can see their thinking process and I think that's super useful. I also think banging out a draft is really effective in terms of learning and "re-doing" even as someone who considers themselves very talented... I always make sure I have enough materials just incase I screw up just because first try is always a draft lol

      This video was fun to make! You can think and study for days about how to make jewellery but the actual understanding and learning only starts when you sit down and DO IT

  • @allanfink6138

    Sometime when you have an extra few minutes, could you do a "short" on your soldering setup? I have seen some youtube jewelery teachers with similar bench setups to yours (no V cut in your bench pin, bench pin cut short at an angle for filing, no benchmate system, soldering with tweezers in a notch on your pin, big steel sheet on your bench behind your pin) Maybe it is a not-USA thing? Thanks for all the great work you do.

      I think the style is from London. Ok I can do a video resonably easily about it

    • @allanfink6138
      @allanfink6138 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DiamondMounter Could be from London. I have also seen two Aussie jewelry teachers on youtube with similar bench pegs/soldering stuff. "Jewelry Training solutions", and "the jeweler's hub". I dont know how you guys get by without a benchmate, but all three of you have mad bench peg skills -- its like you dont really need it.

    You dont seem to ever flux? When the centre square went in it didn't even seem as though there was any. Is it always out of shot?

    Interesting video with your emphasise on design. My designerwannabe gets all exited :-)
    I think I would like to try it without the claws. And using the rim of the marquise settings as 'base'/'material' for the princess setting. Shared settings? It migth then just need to be flat.
    - I still miss that closeup you talked about. On my screen it is never more 45x45 mm, the screen being 185x330 mm.
    - That's like 2025 / 61050 square mm, just 3.3 % !
    Thanks for your showing us working as designer.

  • @louislambri
    @louislambri 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Chris. I think the reason it was a bit gappy is because you angled the marquise diamonds. That’s why they’re set flat usually 😉

    • @DiamondMounter
      @DiamondMounter  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes 100%! When the stones are laid flat the square stone was the correct size to fill the centre

    • @mizzify
      @mizzify 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great idea to angle them outwards though! Catches the light better and adds flair x

    Hi I just joined your patreon, 01/05/2021. How can I email you for one of those rubber polishing discs? I bought the paper sanding discs from Kendent just waiting on post. Would love the rubber ones you used for polishing. You said they come in a bag of 80 but one last for ages and can be sharpened.Thank you
