I made a real numpty move a few weeks ago! I dropped my flexshaft while drilling and didn't get my foot off fast enough. It landed with the side of the drill on my hand and scored a deep cut.
I have a friend I worked with that was filing and the back of the file hit his eye. This is not crazy uncommon. So it’s a very good piece of advice Chris thank you.
I've just started my journey in jewellery making but coming from knife making and leatherwork I'm getting use to the constant slice here and there, lol, thank you for the content you create and share with us, always learn something new from your videos, awesome work 👍🏻😎
@@DiamondMounter oh excellent, yeah I made my first wallet, I have trouble with glue, seems I get more on myself than the job but my stitching is getting better, lol
Love your delivery of every warning. I've actually pinched my finger in my rolling mill badly while tapering a shank and I'm convinced if it was electric, I would've been in deep trouble. It's now one of my nightmare cringes. Thanks for spreading the truth of how important safety is in the studio! You nailed the file in the eye and had me rolling but it's so true! Those pesky face itches...😂😂😂
I recently went to the eye doctor because my eye was constantly on fire… I never use eye protection and it turned out I had a chunk of silver stuck in my cornea. Had to surgically remove it and will have impaired vision for the rest of my life! So I will wear glasses when using my flex shaft from now on… And definitely learned a few more safety rules from you lol!
Worst injury I’ve had at the bench was while making the bench, screwing the peg in place and it flicked around a smacked me in the eye. I’ve actually used my flex shaft to deliberately drill myself, had a painful blood blister under my fingernail and used it to relieve the pressure, worked a treat! Scariest moment had to be when using the polishing mops, just caught a movement out of the corner of my eye and glanced around to see my 3 year old son trying to copy what I was doing, he’d picked up a roofing screw and was about to give it a nice polish on the rouge wheel. Stopped him just before it went ballistic!
I split my lip making jump rings with a drill. I didn't realize it was set full speed and the mandrel I was using spun out and hit me in the mouth. I was lucky I didn't lose a tooth, very lucky it didn't hit me in the eye.
Very necessary video Chris. Those little things you pointed out on the Polishing motor, Grub Screws, can also get sharp little burs at the end of the thread so I learnt to wrap some masking/painter's tape over top to protect hands and work. True story, I was showing a new employee how to pour 10 ounce fine gold ingots, I said to him " once you tip it carefully pick it up with THE TONGS and dunk it in the bucket of cold water " so he melts, pours a nice pour, tips the ingot out of the mold ,I blink and within that second I blink he grabs the ingot with his bare hand to dunk it! I can still see the pain in his eyes now😂needless to say he didn't last long in a job where you need at least half a brain. May your days be filled with itchyless eyes😉
I had a friend at college who's piercing saw blade broke (We went through about 20 a day as a class) and when it broke, It somehow went through his thumb by about an inch. Apparently not a great day at A&E for him. He still has silver oxide in his thumb to this day.
i ! greetings from Latin America! you have very good videos and really very useful, I thank you for this! but I want to ask you a favor: consider putting Spanish subtitles to your videos as well as many other followers we will be able to understand much more about your work! Have a nice day ! thank you for taking my suggestion into account!
Most important rule working with metal - Keep your tetanus vaccine current! At least every 10 years. I've had many small injuries especially in the 1st year. These teach us what not to do very quickly. Lol...

Ah I should of thought of that! Yes especially the course burrs are lethal if you let go of the shaft and its still spinning!
Thank God I've found you. Super informative, well explained and good communication.
Really appreciate the way you comunicate , you come across more like a friend than a teacher. Great work

lol Yes id be very nervous using an electric rolling mill. Its dreadful to think how serious a file in the eye could be!
@@DiamondMounter Whoosh! Yes indeed! 😖🥺
