Ryan- Thanks so very much for this painting tutorial. It took me about 2 months to finish but I just started painting 2 years ago. (Plus I'm 83 years old.)
You’re sooo smart, informative, talented and such a great teacher and demonstrator. I love how you explain what your doing and why plus how and why you’re mixing paints the way you are. God bless you! Hugs from TN!
He actually painted it in a few days... He stops painting a handful of times and goes to bed then gets up and keeps working on it the next day, even though he didn't get it done in three hours it's still really pretty 😎
Thank you! Cityscapes aren’t actually all that difficult though when you work on a relatively large canvas and break them down step by step. Wishing you the best :)
True! I will try Times Square or similar one for sure. I did some Prague bridge etc with architectural point, but from Bottom to Top building painting - never tried.
I want to paint a rainy rainy day. I love the look of lights reflecting in water. I am finding impressionism so challenging, but I love the look. Great tutorial. Thanks.
I love these types of cityscapes, but it's a bit beyond my skill set. I might attempt it one day. For now, I'll just enjoy your beautiful masterpieces😊💛reminds me of my former home NYC.
the contrast and negative combination of the blue and orange just makes this painting pop out. great job! this is a really unique and attractive piece!
Thank you so much for this city scape tutorial. I don’t think I am ready to tackle something like this. I just don’t have the patience that you mentioned. It’s beautiful!
"Rainy Rainy Day" All I can say is WOW! You really captured the feeling....I've walked down that street at least a thousand times in the rain. Best tutorial I've seen. I'm not quite ready to try yet but am looking forward to in the future. You are a great artist and teacher. Thanks so much!
I know this tutorial was made 3 years ago but I saw it and just had to attempt it.Painting is very therapeutic especially on rainy rainy days. Its taken me a while but I'm close to the end Your a great teacher.
I've always wanted to capture this kind of scene on canvas. I get re inspired recently when I go outside in columbus, especially with these rainy, rainy days recently
Took me a few days to finish this painting and I’m in love with it !! Definitely didn’t come out exactly like your beautiful painting BUT it came pretty close ! thank you so much because this video Made it very easy for a beginner to understand❤️❤️❤️
Ryan, am a big fan of yours...the way you explain the colour mixing, brushstrokes, shades, it really helps a lot...thank you so much for the detailed videos.
Rainy rainy day. Working my wsy through this and I'm loving your teaching style. It's really changed my prospective on how to paint things that actually look real. Thank you for all that you do!
Hi Ryan you’re paintings are beautiful, fabulous and you give details about brushes and paints that makes easy for us to work on. Thank you so much for always sharing your beautiful paintings !
Ryan - LOVE the change up with an urban scene - thank you so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I am drawing more and more, so this creates the opportunity to first get a lesson to draw your scape. Then paint. I am beginner, but really like this - you push us to tackle harder subject, we get better, plain and simple. I am glad I help via Patreon.
Comments like this really make my day. Thanks for the support John, I think you have an amazing attitude and with it you'll definitely find success in these pieces
It's been a rainy rainy day for me in real life, and playing this video has grounded me and reminds me that i am a painter, and a painter paints. Thank you for this tutorial, i look forward to seeing more.
I really loved the radio city painting you did! Absolutely gorgeous! You don't see very many artists painting cityscapes. Most painters paint landscapes. I would love to watch a 12 hour painting video of like time square 😂.
I am *shaken* . You switched paint brands too! Wait let me catch up with you on this. 😭 Waaiiit. 😭You can't just go from increasingly detailed landscapes to 100% realistic urbanscapes without warniiiiiiing. 😭👏👏👏 DoYouThinkYouWouldEverDoAFantasySetting? Just....AskingForAFriend👀
Haha, I love the passion in your comments. I wouldn't worry about the brands, I'm still using a lot of Liquitex Basics. I believe the Mars Black, Cadmium Red and Primary Yellow used in this lesson were produced by Liquitex. The Titanium White and Cerulean Blue were from Winsor & Newton. I don't think much about about the brands, I like and trust both of them. As for the fantasy scene, I may or may not have recently created a folder on my hard drive filled with saved fantasy reference photos. So, who knows, maybe some day ;)
@@RyanORourkeArtist ...but no more beginner friendly lessons? I dont think I can do this yet...and have no way to print off the tracings....I'm discouraged. :(
@@jackiegarroutte8970 I don't ever really have a set agenda for what I'm doing a month from now so you never know what's coming up. With that said I do understand where you're coming from and I've thought a lot about how I had started to consistently work on more elaborate pieces. In the end, this was kind of my chain of thoughts. I started this channel by doing fairly complex pieces because that's what I was passionate about at the time. However, as I released more lessons beginners would come in and ask for tutorials on the basics. I wanted to help and so I made the 10 minute painting series which I spent about two years on. There are about 90 episodes and while I initially intended on doing 100 of them, I just felt like I had taught the basics. The last 10-15 kind of just felt like I was doing the same thing over and over again. I looked back at the catalog and felt confident that if someone new to painting did come across my channel they could build a good foundation on those lessons and as far as the simple stuff goes, I had taught it. Now it’s worth noting that while I was releasing the 10 minute lessons I was also releasing hour long lessons (which were actually close to an hour, not four) and those set the ground work for the next stage of progression. However, like the 10 minute lessons after about 50 of them I felt like yet again I explained all that I could for that beginner level. So, rather than doing more of the same I started working on more complicated pieces. In the end, the idea is that a new painter can come across the channel and learn the basics through the 10 minute paintings. From there they can advance to the cut up lessons or hour long lessons as they aren’t much more difficult but they are a step up. Then, once they feel confident with those they can work on some of the new, more advanced tutorials that I’m doing currently. In short, I felt that I had released about 150 lessons for beginners and I had covered the basics thoroughly. From there I wanted to continue teaching, I wanted to ensure that those who have been following the channel continue to grow and become more advanced artists. I didn’t want to limit those who watch the channel and I wanted to provide everyone the opportunity to keep growing. So, again, at this point I don’t really have a plan, maybe one day I will create more simple lessons again but right now I know I want to work on some more elaborate pieces so those who have been learning and watching the channel can continue to grow. I hope that makes sense and that you can maybe go back and enjoy some of the easier lessons for now. Then, once you’re comfortable join us for the new ones. Again, there is a pretty big back catalog of beginner friend lessons to work from :)

Love doing this painting! I’ve been working on it a few weeks now and today, on this rainy rain day is no exception 😊 thank you! Ps love cityscapes so keep them coming!
Thank you very much for this session:) it took me 2 days to paint it. The technique a bit complicated as the painting is part by part and it is complicated to connect them nicely… so many times I have to correct the building or the side of cars:)
I'm making a painting for my partner of 10 years for his birthday and this has been so helpful for this complete amateur. It's just the kind of painting to do on a rainy, rainy day. 😅👍
I really want to try this, but how about the initial outline drawing? And reference photo would be awesome. As a noob I don't think I could even attempt to follow along without drawing or reference photo to sketch before hand.
