It's strange, that only by going to a whole other world was Luz able to have any kind of social circle at all. I can't help but feel sorry for the girl when I think about that 😟
Her mom sent her to Camp Reality Check, a camp that teaches children how to not be outgoing and creative. Their pamphlet has a kid in a box being happy about it. I felt sorry for her when I saw her mom sending her away to that place.
I actually think Ed & Em knew before, and that was just them realizing "hey, we're being a third *and* fourth wheel here." That "pick up" line is just too much of a double entendre - and thus, too much something they'd *say* - for them not to have at least *suspected.*
Either that, or it was intended to be a stealth tease on the both of them, and they genuinely didn't realize things were reciprocated until that moment. That said, I do lean more towards your explanation. The twins (or at least Emera) are too perceptive about those sorts of things to have not noticed until then.
This makes sense, until you consider the idea that Amity may not have had a female crush before. If Ed & Em didn’t know she liked girls, what reasons would they have to suspect that she had a crush on Luz? We can assume that Amity’s never liked a girl before based on all the stuff about her trying to hide how she feels and worrying herself. Internalized homophobia maybe. So I don’t see it as completely unreasonable for her siblings not to have known up until then, and I think it’s super sweet of them to immediately 360 and give Amity and Luz some time alone.
small fun detail, the actual reason why amity blushed after she kissed luz on the cheek was because she saw luz looking at her lips (you know what that means) and of course amity, had a gay panic and went back. and the reason why amity said "why did i do that?" multiple times was because she regrets running back to her house and not letting luz kiss her back
Everything was just perfect. I just love how Amity cares so much for Luz that she risks her job for her. And Luz's reaction to the kiss. Her pupils get small; her tiny gasp; the sparkles in her eyes. That right there, she wasn't crushing on Amity there: she had _fallen_ in love with her. Not to mention Luz looking at her lips as if to follow up.
@@-beautylady-7483 I wouldn't really say that as the case: to me, it seemed pretty clear even during s1 that she did start developing a crush on her. But I think this episode is where it goes beyond a crush due to more realization on Luz's part. For all intents and purposes from the facial expressions and gestures, I am convinced she fell _hard_ for that girl.
When you mentioned this being huge representation in a show aimed to kids I started crying- this show means so much to me I can’t say enough about how much it’s done for me
I Hunting Palisman we have to see Amity. If she won't be interacting with Luz in Hexside during that day, it will be super weird. But I'm afraid she will avoid luz...
Not to mention that when they first met, Amity told Luz to stay away from her because she always gets her in trouble. Luz was very hesitant here because she didn’t want it to happen again, and when it did she was probably thinking back to that moment.
Something to note is that if you put a negative filter over the color green, you get magenta, a color close to Amity's hair color. She literally chose to get as far away from Odalia's orders as possible
All I hope for is that the two get some time in a relationship before the season finale because I doubt the season 3 specials will have the time for any development
I also feel like the reason amity is taken aback by Luz crying is also because while Amity was devastated by losing her job, Luz lost her only lead to getting home AND hurt someone she really cares for and Amity realized that
This episode is amazing. I've watched it 3 times so far and I've cried all 3 times, even this video made me cry abit. Idk why but this episode is so close to me.
It's beyond sweet how Luz goes trough hell to get Amity's job back, but let's be honest, we're talking about Luz here, she would have done the same for anyone else she cares about
Also I strongly believe that Luz saying "I do stupid things around you too, Amity" is an indicator that her crush on her actually goes way back, even before Escaping Expulsion. Like...think about it, she went out of her way A LOT in order to befriend her, and then to impress her so she wouldn't think she was pathetic or incapable, something you don't see her try to do with other people. Perhaps the excitement she had because of all things happening around her in season 1 made her not realize, but now after she's become far more serious this season, feelings like those are starting to sink in, Eda almost being turned to stone by Belos, her confrontation with him and then being forcefully separated from her mom might have made her realize that she now has people that are...too important to her, people that she can't afford to lose.
Look, I love how Amity’s grown as a character over the past season. But I did notice in this episode that she still retained some of her bossy/controlling tendencies. They especially come to light when she thinks Luz’s safety is compromised. Or if she believes she knows the best way to handle a situation. (an obvious result of her parents’ treatment.) I think she needs to work through that before actually persuading a relationship with Luz. Her need to be a leader is definitely one of her character flaws. Amity needs to trust Luz. (The trust needs to be mutual.) She needs to understand that Luz doesn’t need to be watched/cared for all the time. And that she probably needs just as much help as she thinks Luz does. If not, I can foresee a situation where they disagree on something small and it spirals downwards out of control. I get this uneasy feeling. In order for Lumity to be a healthy relationship, both girls need to work through their issues. They need to grow a bit more.
I think what made getting fired so impactful to her was the fact that Malphis was an actual nice and respectable authority figure. With Odalia and Boscha, sure, they had POWER over her, but that's it, there was nothing about them that she actually respected. So the act of defying them was only a problem for her to the extent that it resulted in backlash (which she was already receiving from her mum, making fighting back the better option). Rebelling against them would've brought her joy. But with Malphis, she disappointed someone who she genuinely respected, and I think that hit differently. That's why she started to question her new attitude towards life, because it led to a genuine mistake.
This was such a well thought out analysis - I already loved this episode, but you made me love it even more. For example I didn't even realize that Gus' comment implied that she had already borrowed his library card multiple times, but it makes so much sense. Thank you for doing awesome work.
Wow. Thank you so much for making this video. I can’t even imagine how much effort and time you put into this analysis. You also helped me make sense of some scenes that I didn’t totally understand the significance of, so thank you for that as well. Keep up the fantastic work. 🤗
I have a pretty strong suspicion that the next Amity/Luz interaction will be something like Luz saying it that she liked the kiss in a casual way while Amity has a tomato breakdown
6:24 I thought she was crying because she just lost her only hint about how to get back to the human world and seeing her mom by extension when I first saw the episode
I enjoy how the siblings get along in a more honest way, Em helping both Amity with her feelings and Ed with his date (which he isn't helping by picking at stuff on his face...). There's always many things IRL regarding siblings and family dynamics, but in Bonesbourgh family is more honest and less... of a forced ideology? They help and support each other, because in some respects they may only have each other. So while you may joke, poke fun, squabble and even fight with your siblings at the end of the day you should be there for them and vice versa. I personally enjoy what I can only call the purity of Amity and Luz's relationship. If this was happening IRL it would just be sullied by... Just a gigantic and messy pile of numerous political, social and cultural forces which varies from unhelpful to downright damaging/destructive. Everything from political powers weaponizing family, stigmatizing LGTBQ+ identities and gender identities, social pidgeon-hole'ing of gender roles, media saturation driving kids impressing upon them they need to grow up fast, and a BIG etc... But in the demon realm and in Bonesborough, that gigantic mess is essentially nonexistent. Leaving Amity and Luz to be two teens, with a mutual crush, working out their feelings on their own without outside interference. Well MOSTLY... I'm sure Odalia's gonna pull some crap later on, reasserting control and what not. I'm also hoping there will be an "Ah-ha moment" for Luz later, when something happens to make her flashback to Grom and realize that note (and Amity's fear) was directly about her. Seems like it could be a nice resolution for a future conflict point, but I guess we'll see.
I still don't get it. How does Disney not have the funds to make a full 3rd season? Their income isn't from the amusement parks alone. I still hope the numbers of viewers skyrocket so they'll have to change their mind about TOH season 3
Something I learned from the pandemic is that they really DO make an enormous amount from their parks and resorts, typically close to 40%. As a result, their income was down 99% last year. That's not to say they still couldn't pay for another season of a cartoon show, but the executives have their priorities...
@@chouette3125 Ah shit. Well I guess will get better luck with the spin offs. I'd like to see a spin off with Amity as main character or Young Eda or even one with Belos as when he first got on the isles
"It doesn't seem like Ed and Em even realize the two are crushing on each other until this moment" - hard disagree on that one, that moment isn't them realizing the two are crushing, it's them realizing that they are being third and fourth wheels and need to find an excuse to leave.
I was always confused with how fast their development was going, then I realized that there's a time skip between each episode, so it actually makes sense that Amity's feelings would grow off screen in between episodes.
This show is amazing. It's such an incredible thing to be able to show how normal it is for younger audiences to experience certain feelings and emotions. Canonical LGBT characters in a Disney show is basically unheard of and showing it so freely is awesome. I especially think it's awesome because of how Dana Terrace was said to approach romance, that it isn't the main thing. And it isn't. Obviously we all adore Lumity and how it's implemented so fluidly into the series, but it isn't the main plot of the show. And that makes it SO much better in my opinion. The fact that the main plot is a fish-out-of-water story, Luz in a terrific land, Eda and her backstory, Belos and the coven system, how Luz will get home. Lumity, no matter how much we want it to be, isn't the MAIN aspect of the show. It's incredibly important yes, but the fact that the plot isn't "girl falls for another girl" + plus all the conflict means that two girls ending up liking each other romantically is so normal and valid that it doesn't have to be the main plot for the show to be good. The Owl House: Beautifully written, incredibly designed, impeccably inclusive, amazingly engaging. This show is remarkable and deserve all the praise it receives and then some.
You know what’s crazy? I’ve never related so much to a romance story in a show or movie than lumity. And I’m a straight guy. I mean from my friends teasing about how bad I was hiding it to how I always seemed to just fall apart whenever I saw my crush. To how it wasn’t always a good thing. I feel like most shows canMy show it this realistic and I think since this isn’t a typical straight couple crush they can’t rely as much on the typical shallow relationship tropes. It forces the writers to emphasize the real implications and emotions of it all. It’s really beautiful.
Honestly, I never thought that Luz and Amity were trying hide their crush after Escaping Expulsion considering Amity said "My Luz" and blush and act awkward around each other so much.
The kiss made my day, but yeah that scene outside the Library is what made that work for me. Everyone involved in the animation, writing and voice acting just made that scene work because it's painful, but it comes across as a growing pains painful. Something that if you get through you'll be further than you were. That things won't always be absolutly perfect, and you may not be able to understand them easily, but it's so important. This is probably my favorite young romance since Garrod and Tifa in Gundam X. As for her hair, funny when you see it against the walls of Blight manor, it really comes close to matching it. Almost Abomination colored. So I wonder just why Amity went with that color.
Great video as always Rebecca! I agreed with all your points said in the video! So happy that a relationship like this is shown on Disney!! I also love how Amity was so opened about her feelings to Emira and her being supportive was really sweet! Can’t wait to see where the relationship goes!
I think the twins knew that Amity liked Luz but didn’t know that Luz liked Amity back in till that scene, just because the fact that they hadn’t seen Luz with Amity blushing in till then. If that makes sense 😅😅
I love how Amity's line also will encapsulate Luz's character arc in this season, with her insecurity of being seen as a burden or being lesser than what people expect her to be. Especially with Creepy Luz going to emerge some time, Luz's friends would be a much needed support system for her and remind her that "[she] always has a way to sneak into people's hearts." And that means we are to expect Lumity in the forefront of this season's conflicts.
One thing that may have helped pacing wise would be to include the 'you're just looking for an excuse to go hang out with Amity again aren't you?' line w/ associated stammering back in Episode 3 or 4, so it doesn't seem like it's all coming out at once. That said, I'd consider it a 10/10 episode with all characters and both A and B plots firing on all cylinders -- it packed so much into 22-odd minutes, it was quite impressive.
The way the crush is written is very realistic for their age groups. It's really well done and especially so for a lgbtq relationship on a Disney show.
Just love the hand grab at 2:14 cause its so blatant yet they're so oblivious. Like Luz instantly grabbed Amity's hand like it was normal. And they both blush so mush like they could exchange their feelings through the hand holding.
Amity is far from the only character that seems problematic at first only to be a complex being the more you get to know her. The Blight Twins went from reprehensible abusers in the eyes of the fandom to LITERALLY STOPPING MY HEART when Emira was brushing her little sister's hair as she's coming out of the closet.
I do like the fact that luz ended up getting amitys job back because if I ended up accidentally getting my future girlfriend or wife fired from her job I would be like luz and do anything to get her unfired
Got this notification on a test and I NEED to get home to watch this Edit: I didn't wanna wait so I just put the volume on minimum, shoved the phone in my ear and listened to the video
Connected Amity: Luz listen when I kissed you I didn't Luz: hey it's ok ( blushes) please just will you go out with me Amity: ( red face ) wait you want me to be your girlfriend Luz: y-yeah Amity: yes yes a thousand times yes Luz: I love you Amity: I love you too ( they kiss)
i love that we know Luz have been visiting and seeing Amity thinking "NAAH this ain't nothing like a crush..is just me visiting this beautiful friendly friend of mine...It's not like I lay awake at night thinking about her" and then last scene she literally "falls" for Amity. Oh, to be young and stupid and in love.
I love this LGBTQ+ characters and how, at least that we've seen, that people don't think it's wrong to be LGBTQ+. This is this, for me, is on the same level as She-Ra in the LGBTQ+ community and that being part of the community is fine and no one cares. Carta and Adora love each other and that's normal!

@@herosmith5662 Especially if even *Gus* has pretty much figured it out (and Willow's back there somewhere going "will you two just kiss already!).
So I don’t see it as completely unreasonable for her siblings not to have known up until then, and I think it’s super sweet of them to immediately 360 and give Amity and Luz some time alone.
small fun detail, the actual reason why amity blushed after she kissed luz on the cheek was because she saw luz looking at her lips (you know what that means) and of course amity, had a gay panic and went back. and the reason why amity said "why did i do that?" multiple times was because she regrets running back to her house and not letting luz kiss her back
interesting...
THAT THEORY JUST MAKES THE SCENE FEEL ×6 TIMES BETTERRRRRR,EEEEEKKKKK
@@staruii IKR LIKE LITERALLY WE CAN SEE LUZ LOOKING AT HER LIPS
THE GAY PANIC AND THE LITTLE DING WHEN LUZ SAT ON THE GROUND☺☺☺
Everything was just perfect. I just love how Amity cares so much for Luz that she risks her job for her.
And Luz's reaction to the kiss. Her pupils get small; her tiny gasp; the sparkles in her eyes. That right there, she wasn't crushing on Amity there: she had _fallen_ in love with her.
Not to mention Luz looking at her lips as if to follow up.
Luz just started crushing on Amity she hasn't reached that stage yet
@@-beautylady-7483 I wouldn't really say that as the case: to me, it seemed pretty clear even during s1 that she did start developing a crush on her. But I think this episode is where it goes beyond a crush due to more realization on Luz's part. For all intents and purposes from the facial expressions and gestures, I am convinced she fell _hard_ for that girl.
When you mentioned this being huge representation in a show aimed to kids I started crying- this show means so much to me I can’t say enough about how much it’s done for me
I wonder how they will interact in the next episode, luz being confused, and amity being embarrassed
even she cant be confused after that
@@amulenaspades5856 lol yeah
I Hunting Palisman we have to see Amity. If she won't be interacting with Luz in Hexside during that day, it will be super weird. But I'm afraid she will avoid luz...
@@lukasier26 well it is mostly a Golden Guard episode since in the trailer we do see luz with his staff.
Probably a short scene since the episodes revolves around GG and Luz but we will see them in eclipse lake 😉
Not to mention that when they first met, Amity told Luz to stay away from her because she always gets her in trouble. Luz was very hesitant here because she didn’t want it to happen again, and when it did she was probably thinking back to that moment.
This episode was basically the show's way of telling us; "This won't be another Starco".
We don’t talk about that

So purple is technically Amity's colour now huh?
Then that means "Stay away from my Luz" is even more iconic XD
Love that you can notice Luz's eyes looking at Amity's lips like she was about to reciprocate the kiss and that's why she ran away
All I hope for is that the two get some time in a relationship before the season finale because I doubt the season 3 specials will have the time for any development

I also feel like the reason amity is taken aback by Luz crying is also because while Amity was devastated by losing her job, Luz lost her only lead to getting home AND hurt someone she really cares for and Amity realized that
In the episode “Really Small Problems” didn’t one of the fun house house mirrors show Luz with pink hair?
YES! Omg I forgot about that!

Just imagine Willow trying to adjust to this on top of Gus and Mattholomule's start-of-a-friendship
And then they didn't :(
7:22-7:25 Didn't anyone else notice that Luz pushed her hair back to be the hairstyle like how it was in Enchanting Grom Fright?? :O
I love how they took the relationship slow and showed both sides of there story
This episode is amazing. I've watched it 3 times so far and I've cried all 3 times, even this video made me cry abit. Idk why but this episode is so close to me.
OH MY GOD YOU CRIED TOO???? FINALLY ANOTHER PERSON WHO CRIED!!!! IM NOT AS ALONE AS I THOUGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!
Perhaps the excitement she had because of all things happening around her in season 1 made her not realize, but now after she's become far more serious this season, feelings like those are starting to sink in, Eda almost being turned to stone by Belos, her confrontation with him and then being forcefully separated from her mom might have made her realize that she now has people that are...too important to her, people that she can't afford to lose.
my point exactly
This analysis was amazing! It makes me appreciate the writing of this show so much more it’s so amazing
Look, I love how Amity’s grown as a character over the past season. But I did notice in this episode that she still retained some of her bossy/controlling tendencies. They especially come to light when she thinks Luz’s safety is compromised. Or if she believes she knows the best way to handle a situation. (an obvious result of her parents’ treatment.)
I think she needs to work through that before actually persuading a relationship with Luz.
Amity is definitely not a leader. She's more of a boss than a leader.
Agreed
Lumity is by far the only best Disney couple ever.
#savetheowlhouse
I disney shipps like the dipcifica and the lumity
It's confirmed that it's not getting renewed for another season
@@alxxtor It is, but it's going to be *very* short (At least, that's what I remember)

Also, Dana said a week or so ago that season 3 I to far into production to have it lengthened to a full season
@@chouette3125 Ah shit. Well I guess will get better luck with the spin offs. I'd like to see a spin off with Amity as main character or Young Eda or even one with Belos as when he first got on the isles
Hey, season 2 up to episode 5 drop on Disney plus tomorrow (or today, depending on time zone, it's 12am)
disney profits a 1ot from the parks
I love that her hair is now lavender.
Right now I just wait for every Saturday morning 🌅 😍😍😍
Great video!
I’m very excited for the next episode!!!
While I love all of Rebecca's reaction and analysis videos, this might be my absolute favorite of the bunch.
Your voice.. it’s so.. calming.. these videos make my day.
Did anyone realise that Amity’s hair matches Luz’s hoodie just a different shade?
I love this analysis! Thank you so much!
OK, once these two define their relationship, Amity HAS to ask Luz to teach her Spanish. That way they can have their own secret language.
Thank you for everything Rebecca rose
Lumity is legitimately one of the best-developed romances I've ever seen in animation.
I love the way you analyze characters, thanks for making these videos, and having such a beautiful community for us cartoon geeks to hangout! 🥰
**not me over here squealing and crying through this entire video like the over dramatic lesbain I am**
I was listening to music and it hit your voice i thought you were a singer X3 your voice is so pretty
You give me happiness whenever you post a video
6:26 I didn’t even realize. You’ve went so much farther than I’ve ever thought of going
I do like the fact that luz ended up getting amitys job back because if I ended up accidentally getting my future girlfriend or wife fired from her job I would be like luz and do anything to get her unfired
