I think the “I called my teacher mom again” moment might be more than just a joke. Amity doesn’t seem to have a great relationship with her parents, so she might see this teacher as her main adult role model/support and accidentally call her mom as a result of that. I’ve actually done this before during a time where one of my teachers was the only adult I genuinely felt safe and happy around. I can definitely see Amity being the same way given the information we have about her family life.
Maybe because teachers generally have that "bossy" "homeworky" thing, as Amity's parents are abusive, maybe she called her "mom" because the teacher remembered her mom (PLEASE I haven't said that teachers are mean, but in a 14-yo mind is the same bossy thing as the abusive parent)
I think it is partly a joke but also it’s partly giving us more insight into Amity. Some of the points mentioned by other ppl makes sense given what happens in later episodes with a bit of Amity’s backstory
Well, if we look at this now, it is FACT that Amity's mother chose to dye her hair green to quite literally "color coordinate" her own children. I don't know about y'all, but I doubt that's as far as it goes...
sum dragon I think what they were saying is that Amity is a soft person putting up a tough exterior to not get preyed upon, like how someone you would call “a wolf in sheep’s clothing” would act innocent to the public to avoid being detected as a threat
@@Michael-j2d1g Well, Wolf in sheep's clothing means something like being an enemy who is disguised as a friend. This idiom is a warning that you cannot necessarily trust someone simply because they appear to be kind and friendly. The opposite is someone who is really rude on the Outside but can be kind and loving on the inside once you break down the Defensive walls of that person
Amity is a very interesting character. Luz wants to learn magic and have fun while Amity knows magic and works hard, but doesn't have any fun. She has a lot pressure and insecurities.
It's even MORE interesting when you realize that "blight" means "a thing that spoils or damages something." Her name is an oxymoron. It seems pretty accurate for her siblings, but we'll have to see whether that extends to the rest of her family or whether the name is meant to indicate a possible future toxic relationship, whether Amity is the toxic one or not.
Names are big things in this show. "Luz" means light in Spanish, and Luz is Hispanic, and her first spell is a light spell. We also have King who is (supposedly) king of the demons, and Willow, who is the name of a tree and the name of a plant based witch.
You know I’ve noticed something in the Grom episode that not a lot of people seem to bring up. When Amity bumps into Luz she has that initial snotty attitude that we saw in the first few episodes but once she realizes it’s Luz she immediately changes her demeanor and apologizes. Luz is someone she can be open with but Amity isn’t so sure about everyone else.
@@HackiePuffs thats a detail I absolutely love It shows Amity is still cruel and the hard-core popular girl, to maintain her name and popularity, but around Luz and co she is comfortable enough to be kind with them Its the creators showing that she hasn't fully changed, just around her real friends

Can I say something about her design? Amity has a very sharp design (triangles everywhere) among other things, triangles are used to give a "unfriendly" vibe, spikes, thorns... But the actual form of her eyes are round (round shapes are used in more friendly characters, Luz for example has a very round face). When Amity pulls up her guard, her eyes immediately become SUPER sharp and triangular (specially her eyelashes) but when we see her soft side, her facial expression chances and the eye come back to the round form. That is literally visual information saying that Amity cover herself with cold and sharp manners, but has a very round soft core 👍🏻 (also I liked that a lot because you can immediately tell when she put down her guard or if she put it up)
Not only that but the name Amity in the the Divergent series, The name is for the faction of kind. So deep down I believe she is truly a kind and hard working character.
@@Bowser64798 I'm starting to work with illustration, animation and character design (basically self taught at animation and character design, tho :v) so I always try to study and observe the designs and animations of things that I like to see how they used the principles ^^
What I would like to point out is that Amity called her teacher mom again. Meaning this has happened on more than one occasion. So, what if she feels she can’t be open to her parents, specifically her mother because she can’t show weakness as she mentioned earlier? What if this teacher was Lilith? If it was, it would have made her embarrassment in Covention harder on her than it already was. She wants to be like the woman she sees as a mother and make her (Lilith) proud.
If that is the case, Amity should be careful or she'll become more isolated than ever. Notice how the Emperor's Coven members reacted when Lilith showed up at the local jail... They expected trouble, and got it. Lilith's temper seems to be the trait most associated with her. So it's possible that Amity following in Lilith's footsteps would have her own coldness be the thing she's associated with.
All of that speculation on what it means is great and all but... Have you really never accidentally called your teacher mom or your mom "ma'am" or "miss"- It happens to alot of people, and i think you might be overthinking that diary entry a bit much :')
@Pink Diamond Amity complained in her diary that Emira and Edric get away with murder and that she's the only one who see's they aren't perfect. I expect Emira and Edric are the favored children of the family and Amity is competing with them for her parents' attention. Doubtless it's why she tries so hard at school. Amity might be Helga to Emira and Edric's Olga.
Amity is actually my favorite character tbh. She's a perfect "bully". She comes off as pretty rude, yet she's still a very likeable character. I wish some bullies in TV shows could be like that... *Quietly look over at Chloe from MLB*
@Cristina It's great there are bully characters in animation and other fiction who are well-rounded characters. But I do find myself wondering does every bully in modern fiction need to have a heart of gold? I mean, you can have bully character who is genuinely unlikeable but still be a complex and nuanced character in their own right. Just look at Regina George.
The cool part about Amity is that she was only a REALLY uptight girl, and Luz, from her perspective, was destructive, rude, and embarrassing. LUZ was the bully, because she wouldn’t leave Amity alone. I think it’s interesting that one could write from Amity’s perspective, and Luz would be the bully
Ok first of all Amity tried to get her dissected and give up learning magic just to get a top student badge and demean Luz respectively. I felt like her calling Luz a bully kind of disregarded her own earlier behavior in order for the writers to make Amity more sympathetic. Luz was trying to comfort and be nice to her to make up for her previous encounters but Amity's cold, mean and snobby attitude kept her from making real connections with others. I'm glad she improved at the end of episode 7, but it seemed a little hypocritical to me about calling Luz the bully, even though she misinterpreted what was happening then.
My guess. Amity is in fact a legitimate half witch and the twins are half siblings. Her hair is naturally brown, but she dies it green, not just to match the book character, but to fit in more with her upper class family. My main point though is something I didn't notice until this video. Her Ears. Fact - Humans have round ears. Witches have pointed. But, from what I can tell, Amity's ears are different from every other witch we see. The bottom lobes are clearly rounded as oppose to the relative straight cut every other witch has. Even her siblings have the straight bottom design. As a half-witch, it would explain why she works so hard and why her siblings bully her. It could explain why she was friends with Willow before the show began.
I like your theory and i want to add something. What if Amity is the chosen one, the truth hero of the show? Luz is the main character of course but i don't see her like someone who want to be the best witch or something, she just want to learn magic and have fun adventures. I know the episode 2 state that there is no chosen one but i hope we learn the past of Amity and maybe make her someone really important in the futur.
I’m honestly really impressed with how they have handled her character this early on, not just making her a bully but adding more to her character aside from being a bully, giving her reasons as to why she’s like this and that she’s a genuine hard worker, it also helps that they didn’t have her immediately befriend luz, Only 10 episodes in and she already has a lot to her character and is genuinely sympathetic.
@@vovabars1234 oh shit you're right...😐 they'll start fighting over Willuz & Lumity. Well at least the Voltron fandom won't get to this show right????😬

Rebecca : And this is also the first crack in the walls Amity has built up. Enchanting Grom Fright and Wing It Like Witches : Those walls are about to be *S H A T T E R E D*
When I first saw Amity, I thought that she was basically just another Pacifica. However, it's clear now that the difference is that Pacifica was raised to believe she was above everyone, and when she finally completes her arc (mostly) it's about her recognizing how she's been brought up and making efforts rid herself of those beliefs (btw, a lot of people didn't like her in the finale, but change takes time. It was never implied that she was perfect at the end of the episode). Amity, on the other hand, is only beginning her arc. Sure she seems to get nicer as the show goes on, but that's only because we've seen more and more of her as a character. She was never as cold as Pacifica, she uses her icy shell as a defense mechanism. She wants to be nice and encouraging (sometimes) but doesn't know how. Pacifica's arc was about changing who she is, Amity's will be about showing people who she is.
I agree; a lot of people will say that Amity is a better antagonist than Pacifica because she's more three-dimensional and less "bad guy for bad guy's sake." But Pacifica was raised as a bad guy. That's the only person she knows how to be. It isn't fair to compare the two because one is intentionally raised as an awful person and one is only awful for an exterior. While I agree that Pacifica's arc wasn't the most consistent throughout the show and it deserved more attention and it's nice that TOH creators are addressing Amity from the early episodes, I don't think Pacifica and Amity are equal: one is trying to unlearn what she learned from years of -teaching- abuse, and one is only trying to protect herself.
The only problem is she bullied people who never deserved or those she didn't really have a reason to. She claims she doesn't want to show weakness but hurting others isn't showing strength. She bullies Willow for no reason other than she can, bullies Luz because she believes that she's the source of her problems, and even though he had nothing to do with previous experiences, she immediately bullies King too. He didn't say or do anything he just...showed up. But of course, like any other bully, she has the "friends of my target are ALSO my targets" mindset.
Deadpoolzilla chloe is supposed to be the villain fantasy for teenage girls who are jealous of the girly popular girl in their schools and have the I’m not like other girls disease
One thing that's brilliant about Amity's writing is that it's made clear that her anger towards Luz is the result of Luz's actions, and not her being a condescending jerk like to Willow. Luz cheated twice and compromised Amity's reputation along with it, and Amity just wants to be left alone. Typical two-dimensional bullies usually seek out their targets like they have nothing better to do, but for Amity it seems like Luz is going out of her way to make her miserable. Having Amity call Luz a bully is also a better way to deal with the whole "don't stoop to their level" message that's more about being aware of how your actions affect others instead of using other people's to justify your own(since Luz wasn't trying to be a bully but was lacking self-awareness.) It also makes sense that she gets along better with children than she does her peers, since they don't expect so much of her and she doesn't have to worry about not being 'cool' or smart enough. I wouldn't be surprised if she volunteered because it's one of the few places she can be herself and not worry about her image.
She bullies Willow so that she can maintain her facade about “not being friends with Willow”. Cause her parents were like “if you don’t end your relationship with Willow, we will”. So maybe that’s why she bullies Willow So 1) Willow won’t try to be around her and 2) to show her parents that she’s doing what is asked of her
I actually started shipping Amity and Luz after ‘Lost in Language’ because they were so cute together. Also, I heard that it was confirmed that Luz was bisexual by the creators so it’s possible
@@Behindthemicwithjalen They haven't outright said it (yet) but they pulled a Star vs The Forces of Evil and had her blushing at both Em and Ed in that crushy type of way.
I honestly love the symbolism of Amity dyeing her hair like the GOOD WITCH. After all, her older brother and sister's hair is dark green and Azura's is light green. It's a contrast to show that Amity is nice underneath her icy exterior whereas her siblings have a superficial facade of being good people.
I wondered if Amity was under pressure from her parents to succeed. The older siblings, in episode 9, are shown to be successful academically as well, so perhaps Amity 's family places alot of pressure on academic success.
The reason maybe her parents are being like that could they don’t want there kids to be failure or spoiled brats. Witch ironically have the opposite effect.
I honestly think ur right but I also have another theory, what if Amity Is half human. I mean, she was born with brown hair and if you look closely her ears are different to the other witches.
I really like how in the show it is implied how similar Amity and Luz are to their mentors. For example Luz is a rule breaker in school just like Eda was when she was a teenager , while Amity is more controlled and devotes herself to duty rather than emotions just like Lilith. I have a theory that by the end of the first season both Lilith and Eda will have a sort of sister bond return moment and Amity and Luz will admit to be friends.
I love, love, love, love, LOVE Amity Blight and her interactions with Luz. I especially love the line she's given in Lost in Language. She calls Luz a bully. At the end of the episode, she acknowledges that she hasn't necessarily been nice to Luz. I love that they both acknowledge that they make the other feel bad with their personalities. Luz is spontaneous and impulsive. Amity is calculated and closed off (I can't think of the word). The Owl House acknowledges that the main character can be a bully or have the traits of a bully or that a happy-go-lucky character can actually hurt those around them. I can't wait for more episodes 😍
I also get the feeling she holds back a lot of her feelings and emotions because she sees it as weakness and I hope Luz or Eda tells her that showing how you're feeling is a sign you're incredibly strong and not afraid to show how you're feeling.
What's great about Amity is that she's a _character_ first. Yes, she starts off as a bully, but her entire character isn't THE BULLY. This is what makes her such a fun and interesting character who can make believable and understandable changes.
I see Amity as a sort of parallel to Peridot in Season 2. They both had a value for hard work and status, but also had a soft side that they constantly had to cover up. I'm willing to bet that some event will happen that makes Amity repulsed by the emperors coven(my theory is that they cursed Eda), and her eyes will open to them like Peridot's did to Yellow Diamond.
I agree, but I think we'll have to go through some stuff to get there. I imagine Amity will grow closer to Luz and maybe even Willow, but then be pulled apart and become an enemy when the Emperor's Coven starts to crack down on rebels, and it'll take a little while for Amity to fully redeem herself and turn on the Coven. A sort of rivals to friends to enemies to friends/lovers situation...
I was about to disagree, cause they are different. Like peridot used to enjoy being that edgy arrogant nerd justifying it by being a gem at the service of her diamon (quite lame). While Amity works hard to achieve a reason to be more superior than others (100% imposed meritocracy, are we going to see her parents?). But I guess that their redemptions arcs are/would be kind of similar
Ok so we've all called a teacher "mom" in elementary school, but think about it- this diary clearly isn't from elementary school because her hair was probably still brown. Plus she said again, most of us have probably only called a teacher mom once. Her parents probably don't give her the love attention she needs, we can also conclude this to the 2nd entry "I wish I had somewhere to go" so she's probably not comfortable in her own house. I may just be overthinking things though
No your right. From her flash backs in episode 15 it looks like she is from a family with parents who really don't care about her and her feelings but about reputation. Forcing her to stop being friends with Willow and threatening her friendship if she didn't break it off
While not my absolute favorite character on the show (That honor goes to King), Amity is a close second, and I consider her to be almost certainly the best "Mean/ snooty rival with the chance for redemption" character I've ever seen. On the one hand, yes, she can be mean, prejudiced, condescending and arrogant (Albeit the last of these is in a rather understandable way; as a t shirt slogan I once read put it, "It ain't braggin' if you can back it up"). On the other hand, we've also seen that Amity is hard- working, honest, talented, committed to fair play, often just as much in the right as Luz in their conflicts if not more so (i.e. in her first episode, she is upstaged by a classmate who was clearly cheating, then punished for trying to expose this fraud; I honestly can't blame Amity for not taking it well), and likely has a less- than- happy home life. Also, she has a surprisingly kind side, as seen by her interactions with the children in the library episode. In short, Amity Blight is an amazingly well- developed character who could have easily been one- dimensional in the hands of less talented writers. I look forward to seeing what directions she'll take in Season 2, especially with Luz now enrolled at Hexside.
Luz is enrolled and her first day is next week.Amity and Luz are friends but she doesn't like Willow or Gus and still hangs out with her rude friends.Maybe later she leaves her mean friends and joins Willow,Luz,and Gus in their friend group.
🦉Is Amity a child from a second marriage?? She has the same eye color as her siblings, but her natural hair color is different.(I know it's possible, but it's just a thought.) Kind of reminds me of Cinderella and her step sisters.🤔
There is also another a comment I have seen saying that she could be a half witch from one different parent from the twins. The comment pointed out the fact that while the witches have pointed ears and humans have rounded, amity appears to have ears with pointed tips but round out slightly more than other witches at the bottom where the earlobe is.
Owl House is pretty good so far,and amity(Mittens as called by her siblings) really is a good "bully". Can't wait to see more of her. Amity kinda reminds me of a character from the anime Little Witch Academia (which is sorta like owl house).
The "I called my teacher mom again" also shows that she puts a lot of weight to how teachers perceive her and react to her. Also "again" means that she said it before. I think this carries a lot of weight considering she's not a second grader. She probably projects a lot of her need for a caring parent onto her teacher. I think this diary entry screams "child neglect".
@Citrus Fruit Man Kinda, it seems like mr and Mrs blight (mostly Mrs blight) neglect amity and even put her up for a show that isn’t the safest but I think she called her teacher mom because her teacher and mom both have high expectations for her
Well we now know that Emira and Edric do care about Amity in 'Adventures in the Elements' now it's made fully clear that her parents Odalia and Alador are the cause of all of it in 'Understanding Willow'.
Dude the moment I saw her I was like "A lesbian with dyed green hair, black nail polish, and black triangle earings! big emo missunderstood Lesbian right there."
One thing i just noticed: “I was a teenage abomination” as an episode title has a double meaning. Not only was Luz pretending to be a monster, so was Amity. This might foreshadow an even further change of heart for Amity as she realizes that she has been acting like a “teenage abomination” and actually winds up becoming full on friends with Luz. Edit spelling
Triple meaning Luz was a dork who did weird stuff Amity was going crazy trying to live up to expectations from both herself and from people around her and also luz was litterally a teenage abomination
I do think that Amitys Siblings arent as bad as they seem at first. They were genuinly nice to Luz and enjoyed her company, even after she stood up to them about not being comfortable with the diary annd telling them she is going after Amity. I think those two just dont know boundaries. They think doing these things are fair games and that Amity does need to loose up and dont realize how much they really get on Amitys nerve. I fully expect that we will get an episode at some point dealing with the rift between the siblings when Amity finally really snaps at them, with Luz being caught tryting to mediate between them. Also, if we look at Otabins Action, there is a bit mirroring of Luz and Otabin. Otabin wasnt a mean, scary monster, the things that happent werent his fault and he apologized - and Amity aknowledged that they could still be friend. Likewise, Amity aknowledges that Luz isnt a mean bully, like she thought at first.
Drever haven’t seen the show but from this video the siblings reminds me of the twins from Harry Potter, Fred and George who also used to tease and prank Ron a lot and resulted in Ron developing a inferiority complex feeling like he couldn’t live up to his 6 siblings.
After watching the whole show, I'm really glad the twins took a turn for the better and started helping Amity out a lot, while still keeping a realistic sibling dynamic, I also really like them as characters, they're not as well developed as Amity, but I think they're still pretty good characters. I hope we get more insight on them and the whole Blight family
A lot of people say Zuko has the best redemption arc. This show has the potential to take Amity there. This was a great video! I don't think you were overthinking anything at all. You went into great detail and pointed out a lot of things I didn't notice like the facial expressions and hand gestures. Also, the fact that she undid the oath once she saw Luz's dedication and hard work. Or when she called Luz a bully and saw a reflection of herself. Subscribed! Can't wait to see more
wanka wanka yea I wonder how long it will take. Hopefully, it’s a realistic journey where she tries her best but slips up. No matter what, it’s cool to see different sides of her so early in the series. That’s pretty rare.
Fun detail, their earrings actually are just a little itty bitty bit of shape language. Circles and round characters are friendly, welcoming, and childish. Kirby being a great example. Triangles are dangerous, scheming, but also dynamic, meaning they illicit change or change themselves. Most villains are triangles but also some tricky characters. Almost every fox character is triangle esque. And now that you've noticed that, you can also notice that Luse mostly is made up of rounded shapes in her design, even when she smiles it curls a lot. And Amity's design comes to points a lot, like the shock of brown in her hair or her chin. Just something to keep in mind.
Amity’s pain from her siblings is not an excuse to bully her former best friend Willow. She may try to keep her new friends from bullying her but that’s not enough. She says she wants to make a change for the better but she haven’t done anything to deserve it and weather or not she can see her actions in the future will not be easily forgiven with a simple sorry.
She obviously didn't just start bullying her out of nowhere.Something must have happened between these 2 that lead amity to start acting like this and cut her friendship with Willow
OH MY GOSH, GOSH, GOSH I THOUGHT IT'D BE A GOOD IDEA TO WATCH THIS WITH MY GRANDMOTHER SINCE STEVEN UNIVERSE ENDED AND WHAT YOU SAID CONFIRMED THAT I SHOULD. ME AND MY GRANDMOTHER DON'T HAVE MUCH IN COMMON, CARTOONS BRING US TOGETHER. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR FOR THIS! :)
Jake Oreo I’ve practically given up on Luna and Sam from the Loud House. They’ve only had like... 4 episodes about them in the past 3 years? And their storyline also moves slower than a totaled car? Yeah, that’s a good example of a story that could’ve been great, but just wasn’t given enough attention.
If Amity wrote in her diary that her siblings get away with things so I supposed her parents also show preference for the twins and Amity feels bad for that too
What i noticed was that they had fricking manga in the library. 10/10! Honestly, the thumbnail of this video made me want to return to the show after only seeing 3 episodes and left for 7 weeks. Amity is a piece of gold with a light cover of dirt, easy to dust off. Also personally, in an ironic turn. Her sharp appearence actually makes her more appealing to me than soft rounded characters are these days. I'll be looking forward to seeing this "bully" more. (Btw, amazing analysis in this video. You're definetly a content creator with a good eye)
Maybe Amity and her elder siblings have different parent? I mean, mother or father. That’s why twins are teasing Amity and that’s why Amity died her hair green. Because she wanted to look more like her half-siblings
actually, (you probably already know this but i'll put it here anyway) her mother forced amity to dye it green because she likes her children "color coordinated". I think you're still right about the step-parents thing.
no her father’s hair is brown and her mother’s hair is green like Edric and Emira. Amity’s natural hair colour is brown like her father’s but her mother dyed amity’s hair green because she likes her children to be *colour coordinated*
The Amity episodes have consistently been my favorite. I freaking love Eda but Amity is honestly my favorite character at this point and I can't wait to see how her role in the story and character grow from here on out. Also, while I hope the show doesn't go the route of a certain other show and just start teasing all the ships every other episode, I would certainly have no objection of her and Luz ending up together (I do admittedly ship it myself) so long as they don't repeat the mistakes of show-that-will-remain-nameless
What I love the most about Amity in the beginning as a bully character is that she had every right to be upset and dislike Luz. Most stories I’ve seen with the bully, they don’t have a plausible reason to dislike the main character, with mainly the reason being jealousy, which gets repetitive because there are other emotions that can be express against the main character. Which Amity had by how Luz unintentionally mess with Amity’s life, like Luz inadvertently getting Amity losing her top student spot
"Luz is exemplifying everything that Amity values" I didn't think of that! Thank you for your awesome analysis!! c: no wonder Amity fell head over heels for Luz 😄 loving this show soooo much!!
I adore this video! Amity has been my favorite since the beginning, I could practically smell her raw potential for a good character arc. I’ve been analyzing her a lot and seeing someone else genuinely interested in her character is amazing! This video and great and points out some awesome stuff- great work! I can’t wait to see more of amity and Luz in the future
I just realized that the way Amity apologized at the end “I haven’t been the nicest *witch either* It sounds like she was starting to accept that Luz could become a witch if she tried hard enough
happy 3y anniversary to this video!! i remember in 2020 amity is what got me to start watching toh and i believe i watched this video before i did so, which introduced me to why everyone liked this show so much :0
Also, a detail we can see in "Lost in Language" it starts with Luz reading Azura's book for King, who resembles a child, just like the children Amidity was reading for at the Bibliotheca. Meaning: Both of them enjoy reading stories for children, which can be reinforced by Liz's excitement when she suggests they could narrate together, making different voices and all. It's one more thing in common they have! [It's like one of those details that hide in plain sight, because I just noticed it now lol. Anyway, it would be really attentive of the creators if they ever made use of this similarity in further episodes. Imagine how sweet it would be having Luz and Amidity storytelling together - and for the sake of the series' sense of humor, for some death or life situation lol]
Honestly looking at Amity's character now, it's hard to look back at who she used to be. She was always putting others like Willow down and trying to be perfect, but to me it seemed like it was her obsession with perfection and cruel behavior that got her in trouble and embarrassed while Luz, who at the scene barely did anything. Luz wasn't trying to inflict harm she just found herself involved with Amity's inconveniences so Amity blamed her for getting her in trouble and humiliated. I don't think she fully realizes the harm she's inflicting onto luz and others until Lost in Language. When she called Luz a bully, I was bothered by the hypocrisy, but I also think she was projecting her behavior onto her because she grew up around cruel and mean people, making it the only way she sees others and didn't understand Luz's compassion after accidentally embarrassing her. I mean did Amity not think that she was a bully herself until Luz showed up? I think that Luz, being one of the kindest people she met in a long time, helped her break free from that miserable mindset and eventually developed a crush on the human, and to think that the two of them are dating now.
I have a theory that for some reason, Amity isn't fully a biological Blight family member and that's why she's othered by her siblings, and also why she dyes her hair; it could be to fit in with the family's image. In the episode Understanding Willow it was made clear that the family's image has to be above all and upkeeping it is Amity's responsibility. For some reason, there's a lot of pressure on Amity for that, and it doesn't seem like Edric and Emira feel that same pressure. So maybe there's scandal there and that's why Amity has to be so rigid about her reputation, because it could be put at stake at any time.
Ik this was 8 months ago but i have to say it- Amity is the Blight's child, she just has her father's hair which is brown, her mother WAS the one who dyed her hair because she wants her children to be "color coordinated" said by Dana (creator of TOH)
i cant believe that this was a year ago. i’m rewatching this episode after s2ep5 and i’m a little emotional. i love to see how amity has grown as a character. she went from the cold bully, with insecurities and defensive out lashes, to the sweet, loving person we know now. there’s a reason why i love this show.
Hopefully the fandom doesnt turn this show into another shipping show just like that other show cough star vs the forces of evil cough cough How did this get a 100 plus likes? I never thought that this many people actually agree with me
Pink Diamond oh you have no idea on how much I agree with you star vs ending was trash and that is why I’d prefer for shows like amphibia and owl house to stay episodic with continuity because at least if romance is involved it’ll be easier to handled it or just do what hunter x hunter and moana did by not featuring romance at all
I want to say that the siblings got an incredible redemption arc in my heart. I almost hated them the first time they appeared. I didn't like them at all for most of the series. But with their actions they eventually got a place among the other characters in my heart. They started practically as bullies, but ended as a wholesome pair who actually cares about Amity A LOT. Way more than their parents. But because their arc is quite subtle, I was in negation for most of the time, not wanting to like them because of their behavior the first chapters. To think that Dana made me go from almost hating them to appreciate them... damn, that is so awesome.
Even though she's meant to be the bully, she's also an actual character that's multi-dimensional. Not to mention, surprisingly mature for her age. The words she said to Luz as she was leaving the library were very self-aware and it made me like her even more. She's willing to change.
I literally watched the clip of Luz being surprised that Amity was reading to kids and fell in love with Amity. That clip actually got me into the show and my brother had been begging me to watch it for a while so I tried it out and now it’s my second favorite show ever. Ducktales will forever be my number one favorite show
Watching this now knowing that Amity and Luz become wholesome girlfriends who make each other better people with their incredibly healthy relationship is so rewarding.
I find her name to be very interesting. "Amity" is another word for cooperation, or at least the ideal of individuals working together despite differences. "Blight" is often known as a sickness, or a parasitic organism that feeds off of something else. Her name is contradicting, but it's very unique and I love it
Amity is an amazingly written character. She seemed like a harsh bully but in reality she's pressured and really is kind and nice person. I love how she has developed from the beginning and im excited to see how her relationship with Luz and the gang will turn out. Especially since she stood up to Boscha.
Amity is an amazing character. Still, she kind of hurts, because she reminds me of me. When I was little, I was a lot like her. I would treat my friends badly, treat people I didn’t like even worse, and completely ignore everyone else. I was physically and emotionally abusive to the people closest to me, and I absolutely hated people who seemed to be competing with me. At the same time, I was a really smart kid, effortlessly passing all of my classes with a “post-college” reading level and learning a ton of stuff outside of school, to the point that adults were constantly trying to provide me with challenging work and students came to me for homework help. And I was helpful and sensitive at times, especially to younger kids. Heck, I volunteered to help first graders in the science lab because I was already familiar with the stuff we were covering in my own science class. I seemed like a model kid to my parents and teachers, and I even convinced a lot of fellow students that I was nice, or at least fun to be around. The thing is, I had a protagonist complex. I read all these books about kids succeeding in school against bullies and terrible teachers, never once thinking that many of those kids weren’t exactly sympathetic or nice people. For the love of God, I sympathized with Greg Heffley, and if you remember what the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series was like, you know why that’s a bad thing. So I became convinced that I was one of these heroic students, a good kid trying to make his way in a world that hated him. I even had a sort of rival. She was a jerk to me and my friends, and she wasn’t very nice to her own friends either. And yet she seemed beloved. So I created this conflict in my head, and we hated one another. I never once considered that she wasn’t a one-dimensional stock bully out of Mean Girls, that she probably felt the same way as I did. Every bully thinks they’re a victim, and they’re often right. I know I was the villain of a lot of people’s stories. And I don’t have an excuse. It took a lot more than a cute girl being nice to me to fix myself. It took growing up. It took literal years. I guess I was twelve before I finally got friends I didn’t abuse, but I still wasn’t a very good friend. I still mocked people’s interests and expected things to be about me. I started getting nicer, but I still had a long ways to go. I was fifteen when I first had the realization of exactly who I was. I’m still not perfect. But I’m trying now. When Amity called Luz a bully, that broke me. Because I knew that, once upon a time, I was Amity. But at the same time, I’m not Amity. Amity got the chance to make amends. I never did, and I don’t think I ever will. And knowing that you hurt someone and you’ll never get to apologize is just the worst feeling. Just... try to understand people. That was what I didn’t have. Don’t be like me.
"-she's seriously passionate about joining the emperor's coven" To be honest I think the only thing she's passionate about *now* is being an awesome girlfriend to Luz
"Called my teacher 'Mom' again..."
We've all been there. Moment if silence for Amity.
Honestly like yea
I called my teacher grandmother once... luckely she didn't hear it but my friends did
My English teacher is actually my mom...🤣
My teachers are like moms to me
I once called my female teacher daddy,.. I was eight don’t judge me
I think the “I called my teacher mom again” moment might be more than just a joke.
It's also making Amity seem more casual, humane, and relateable
Maybe because teachers generally have that "bossy" "homeworky" thing, as Amity's parents are abusive, maybe she called her "mom" because the teacher remembered her mom (PLEASE I haven't said that teachers are mean, but in a 14-yo mind is the same bossy thing as the abusive parent)
I think it is partly a joke but also it’s partly giving us more insight into Amity. Some of the points mentioned by other ppl makes sense given what happens in later episodes with a bit of Amity’s backstory
Everyone can interpret that in different ways
Well, if we look at this now, it is FACT that Amity's mother chose to dye her hair green to quite literally "color coordinate" her own children. I don't know about y'all, but I doubt that's as far as it goes...
I'm sorry but I'm honestly bracing myself for the Amity x Luz ship.

You know the term “The wolf in sheep’s clothing”. I think Amity is the exact opposite of that
That’s a really good way to put it.
The sheep in wolf's clothing
I don't understand what your saying do you not like her, ooor... what?
sum dragon I think what they were saying is that Amity is a soft person putting up a tough exterior to not get preyed upon, like how someone you would call “a wolf in sheep’s clothing” would act innocent to the public to avoid being detected as a threat

It's interesting because the name Amity means "Friendship"
It's even MORE interesting when you realize that "blight" means "a thing that spoils or damages something." Her name is an oxymoron. It seems pretty accurate for her siblings, but we'll have to see whether that extends to the rest of her family or whether the name is meant to indicate a possible future toxic relationship, whether Amity is the toxic one or not.
bruh whoa
Names are big things in this show. "Luz" means light in Spanish, and Luz is Hispanic, and her first spell is a light spell. We also have King who is (supposedly) king of the demons, and Willow, who is the name of a tree and the name of a plant based witch.

Amity in lost in language: I don't want to show weakness
Amity now: dies every time she sees luz
You know I’ve noticed something in the Grom episode that not a lot of people seem to bring up. When Amity bumps into Luz she has that initial snotty attitude that we saw in the first few episodes but once she realizes it’s Luz she immediately changes her demeanor and apologizes. Luz is someone she can be open with but Amity isn’t so sure about everyone else.

Wonder if she let her hair down it would have softer features

Have you really never accidentally called your teacher mom or your mom "ma'am" or "miss"-
It happens to alot of people, and i think you might be overthinking that diary entry a bit much :')
@@SporkleBM everyone calls their teachers mom some times but Amity said it like it happened a lot more then a normal student would

Amity complained in her diary that Emira and Edric get away with murder and that she's the only one who see's they aren't perfect. I expect Emira and Edric are the favored children of the family and Amity is competing with them for her parents' attention. Doubtless it's why she tries so hard at school. Amity might be Helga to Emira and Edric's Olga.
I agree. Her siblings personality and actions suggest that Amity's parents may not be the most caring parents.
Amity is actually my favorite character tbh. She's a perfect "bully". She comes off as pretty rude, yet she's still a very likeable character. I wish some bullies in TV shows could be like that... *Quietly look over at Chloe from MLB*
Actually Thomas Astruc basically said that the more people defend Chloes actions the more he wants to keep her evil
@@goddessamari Hm. That actually makes sense slightly.
She's a BITCH
neosoontoretro, but at the end she becomes somewhat better
The cool part about Amity is that she was only a REALLY uptight girl, and Luz, from her perspective, was destructive, rude, and embarrassing. LUZ was the bully, because she wouldn’t leave Amity alone. I think it’s interesting that one could write from Amity’s perspective, and Luz would be the bully
well amity was definitely a bully towards willow
I think your right if it was from amity point of view Luz would 100% be a bully.Everything is just perspective but I think amity was in the right
Ok first of all Amity tried to get her dissected and give up learning magic just to get a top student badge and demean Luz respectively.
👌
That is a really good theory ! I hope you’re right ^^ !

@@angelbowbby Thanks!
Plus Pacifica will resort to cheating to get to the top while amity values no cheating and pure honest work.

Having Amity call Luz a bully is also a better way to deal with the whole "don't stoop to their level" message that's more about being aware of how your actions affect others instead of using other people's to justify your own(since Luz wasn't trying to be a bully but was lacking self-awareness.)
It also makes sense that she gets along better with children than she does her peers, since they don't expect so much of her and she doesn't have to worry about not being 'cool' or smart enough. I wouldn't be surprised if she volunteered because it's one of the few places she can be herself and not worry about her image.
Not to be rude but how did Luz cheat(I can't remember)
The second one,Luz was honestly against cheating.
She only bullies Williow by she doesn't think she works hard and her parents made her do it. Also she wants to friends she works hard.
This is completely unrelated to your argument but sometimes in order to get af someone you have to be on their level
She bullies Willow so that she can maintain her facade about “not being friends with Willow”. Cause her parents were like “if you don’t end your relationship with Willow, we will”.
So maybe that’s why she bullies Willow
So 1) Willow won’t try to be around her and 2) to show her parents that she’s doing what is asked of her

"Amity and Liz will admit to be friends"
Well yes but actually no
I love, love, love, love, LOVE Amity Blight and her interactions with Luz.
I also get the feeling she holds back a lot of her feelings and emotions because she sees it as weakness and I hope Luz or Eda tells her that showing how you're feeling is a sign you're incredibly strong and not afraid to show how you're feeling.
so does luz

RySenkari that would be great!
She's green
I actually think at first she will work with the emperor's covento help them catch Eda
"Hurt people hurt people" I love this line
It sounds weird when you dont emphisise(sorry Idk how to spell it) it. For me " _Hurt people_ *Hurt* *_people_* " this sentence makes sense to me
Ok so we've all called a teacher "mom" in elementary school, but think about it- this diary clearly isn't from elementary school because her hair was probably still brown. Plus she said again, most of us have probably only called a teacher mom once. Her parents probably don't give her the love attention she needs, we can also conclude this to the 2nd entry "I wish I had somewhere to go" so she's probably not comfortable in her own house. I may just be overthinking things though
Judging by Amity's flashback in episode 15. Definitly
I also once called my class teacher "Mom" when I was in 1st class , I was atleast 6 years old .
@@sakurai6176 happens to the best of us lol
No your right. From her flash backs in episode 15 it looks like she is from a family with parents who really don't care about her and her feelings but about reputation. Forcing her to stop being friends with Willow and threatening her friendship if she didn't break it off
NO NO i think you are 10000th % right.
her name literally means friendly disease it could be like a symnolic to how she wants to have friends but feels like she is avoided like a plague
Or if you separate the words, a friend (her specifically and a plague (her family)
Adamguy2003 my favorite is either Luz or Willow. Amity is a character that I wanna hate but can’t.
Luz is enrolled and her first day is next week.Amity and Luz are friends but she doesn't like Willow or Gus and still hangs out with her rude friends.Maybe later she leaves her mean friends and joins Willow,Luz,and Gus in their friend group.

The "I called my teacher mom again" also shows that she puts a lot of weight to how teachers perceive her and react to her.

It’s Luz. Not Lutz.
I agree i mean i would have done the same to my siblings if they bully someone hahhaha😉😏

Nick P hey here’s a better idea how about we just for once don’t compare modern cartoons to avatar and just let this show do it’s own thing ?
Carla Carrero yea you’re right. Didn’t mean to do that. Just meant to compliment the writing of Amity’s character as well as Zuko’s
wanka wanka yea I wonder how long it will take. Hopefully, it’s a realistic journey where she tries her best but slips up. No matter what, it’s cool to see different sides of her so early in the series. That’s pretty rare.

"... symbolizes Luz and Amity's potential friendship."
Ohoho, if we only knew XD

Great video! That moment when Amity thought Luz was the bully really stuck out to me. I'm very curious to see where this character goes from here.

Also, a detail we can see in "Lost in Language" it starts with Luz reading Azura's book for King, who resembles a child, just like the children Amidity was reading for at the Bibliotheca. Meaning:
Both of them enjoy reading stories for children, which can be reinforced by Liz's excitement when she suggests they could narrate together, making different voices and all.
Ik this was 8 months ago but i have to say it-
Amity is the Blight's child, she just has her father's hair which is brown, her mother WAS the one who dyed her hair because she wants her children to be "color coordinated" said by Dana (creator of TOH)

Never understood the initial hate for them. They're just like the avarage sibling in their first ep
Even though she's meant to be the bully, she's also an actual character that's multi-dimensional. Not to mention, surprisingly mature for her age. The words she said to Luz as she was leaving the library were very self-aware and it made me like her even more. She's willing to change.

"-she's seriously passionate about joining the emperor's coven"
To be honest I think the only thing she's passionate about *now* is being an awesome girlfriend to Luz
