It’s great that the love interest isn’t just the “reward” that the main character gets after saving the day. Love just happens, and this series greatly reflects that.
THIS!!! Stories usually focus on characters getting together but now that Lumity became canon so early on, TOH focuses on Lumity _being_ together. It skips right past the “will they won’t they” bs and jumps right into the more interesting part about characters’ relationships.
There are a lot of series that postpone the couple getting together until the end almost as if the creators are afraid that there'll be nowhere to go afterwards (i.e. Star vs. The Forces of Evil; Friends). In reality, starting a relationship isn't just happily ever after and having Lumity happen this early in the series means that we'll, hopefully, get ot explore that.
@@torquedawg1004 i love that they fast tracked through the will they won't they nonsense in this episode; there was even the classic misunderstanding, where Amity started to believe Luz didn't like her back. In a lesser show this would extend the will they won't they plotline for at least another half a show if not more, but The Owl House is not one of those lesser shows. They had the same tropes but moved on past them quickly and still got them together in the episode. What a way to set an example for future shows. I'm tired of many of them having the will they won't they extended for the entire show.
I'm still stuck on how Eda telling Luz to just go for it regardless of the wild circumstances is directly intrinsic to her line from the second episode: "If we all waited around for a prophecy to make us special, we'd die waiting." Eda has learned so much about living and making the most of any situation that she doesn't ever hesitate to pass that kind of thing onto Luz, and that's just super special to me. If you want something, then go out and get it.
That quote you referred to is the best quote from Eda, and TOH altogether. When I heard it in the second episode, I knew I was going to like this show a lot. It can be applied to Luz and Amity confessing to one another despite their fears, or almost any other circumstance in life. In the grand scheme of things, nothing will ever end perfectly, and you will never be special. But, as Eda says, “it won’t be perfect, but it doesn’t have to be.” And you can be special to someone in particular.
The way that this show has handled lumity’s relationship has been incredible, showcasing the realistic and awkward parts of starting a relationship, I’m happy that this show is not only giving us an lgbt relationship but doing it in such a way that many kids and even adults can relate to, it being so imperfect is what makes it so perfect.
Yeah, and it’s relatable and special for people who aren’t a part of the lgbt community as well. Everyone loves Luz and Amity’s relationship, it’s pure, well written and heartwarming 🥰
Normally, that tunnel of love would have had Amity and Luz talking about how much they love each other as they sailed down it with no incident whatsoever. ...Instead, we got Luz trying to totally destroy the place so it doesn't embarrass her in front of Amity.
I think the show shows that not every LGBTQ character needs their sexuality to be their soul personality because people always say "You make being gay/bi/trans your whole personality" and it shows that we can have gay/bi/trans characters are more than their sexualities

Their inner and external struggles and the courage to overcome them is a beautiful thing to see and it sends the right message: That you are more than your sexuality, you're full-fledged person with value, qualities and flaws, who deserves to be loved and respected as much as anyone else. But at the same time, your sexuality is nothing to be ashamed of, you're not faulty because of it, all you want is to love and being loved and you also deserve all the support to find your place in the world, which exists. You have the right to it and need the courage to find it.
Exactly! To tell you the truth, I've seen so many "straight/normal" couples act the same way Luz and Amity did in this episode that it's become...rather stale. So, it was so refreshing to see such behavior happen to an LGBT couple. I haven't seen something that cute since Luna and Sam on Loud House

I've watched a freakin' ton of animated shows and anime throughout the last 30-ish years and I can literally only name 2 other examples of the main couple getting together so early and not on the final episode or something: Disney's own Gargoyles show back in the 90's and the anime Itazura na Kiss. It's really that rare for this to happen O.O But like everyone here, I'm really excited to see where things go from here. Eclipse Lake is gonna be a banger of an episode!

I know this is a joke, but season two has likely been in production since early 2020. Animation moves pretty slowly so episodes are written FAR before they actually air. Usually it’s about a year!

No joke, this show has been on my watchlist for a whole year & 2 months and I'm in love with this show. The fact that I'm still split on weather or not I liked Luz's or Edas part of the episode more, even tho im a sucker for cute romance stuff says a lot. And my point here is NOT that Luz's part was bad, just that Edas part was also freaking amazing.

My little cousin loves shows like the owl house and I love that she gets to grow up knowing that being gay is valid and normal which I didn’t have when I was younger
Rather than contrive reasons to keep them apart (i.e. hearing/seeing something out of context), I love how The Owl House is letting Lumity happen within the series and not saving it till the very end. Seeing them realize they have feelings for each other and struggle to act on them is sweet and relatable. And we're not even halfway through the season!

I like Rebecca's take on the show and Lumitys scenes in general. Her takeaways are perfect. As a parent of a represented kid I love how The Owl House shows that it's perfectly normal to crush on someone of your own sex. As a parent I do not care who my kid likes as long as my kid is a good person and that's all a parent should expect and not be rude about their sexuality. I'm glad Disney is allowing this and when amity kissed Luz my kid about fell out of her seat so I know it had an impact.
I'm just a straight ally, but I'm a huge sucker for cute romance no matter the attraction of genders. Seeing Luz and Amity become canon in the mid of S2 is really nice because then we get to see their dynamic as a couple. Though I'm happy for the LGBTQ+ community for getting the representation they deserve!

That's like what 99% of writers do when they do romantic sub-plots. The couple gets together and they have no clue what to do. Usually they break up when the next season starts and then we go through the drama.

I like how they illustrated that no matter how magical, extravagant or "special" you think something like asking out your crush should be, that sort of thing rarely ever goes so smoothly, but that's okay because all that really matters is being genuine and confident enough to do it in the first place.
the "thumb rub" is definitely my favorite most underrated show of affection, it is so subtle yet it works to show how much someone cares for someone else and i love that the show did that with luz and amity
Bro, I wanted to cry when I saw that scene, like it was just so cute, wholesome, and precious, and I was so happy when Luz and Amity got together like I shipped them from the first moment that they met, and I'm so they came along way from being rivals to being in love with each other and just being a cute couple!!!
I just love the adorable awkwardness between these two. It's both natural and realistic. It's these kinds of interactions that just warms my heart. Just imagine how the first kiss may go and by that I mean on the lips.
Personally, I think this is why TOH is so special in comparison to so many other shows that try to be "the first LGBT+ inclusive show in Disney!" They focus so much on the recognition that they forget to treat their characters like, well, characters. So the big representation they patronage ends as a background cameo (which could easily could be edited out for international release) and in turn seem disingenuous for those watching. Not it this show. Yes, there is a lot of representation, but that is not the core of the story, nor is the representation relayed to the background. It's acknowledged and accepted as another part of life, as it should be. Shows that try to be "the first one" to bring representation not only does a disservice to all the other shows that, while small, they did their part in getting to this point. TOH in the other hand, doesn't try to be a bastion of representation. It just represents, and that's good. Personally, I don't think pride to be a bad thing, so Danna Terrance can be proud on having make such a good showcase about how to do good representation in a good show (as in making a good show which happens to have representation, not the other way around). Meanwhile, there will still be those showrunners who arrogantly try to be the paragon of representation in order to stroke their ego, and that will promptly be forgotten in less than a year (I am looking at you Kevin Smith).
I didn't even realize it until I heard what Dana said. The lack of social criticism and instead portraying the ideal ads a lot to how refreshing the show feels.
My head canon is that Amity get sweaty, specially her hands, when she is anxious, so grabbing her clothes thight is to ground her self and clean her hands. (That's just what I do, so I love seeing Amity do that)
Worse news: prepare for a lot of angst and dramatic cliffhanger after the season 2 finale and possibly the midseason hiatus Additionally, we know Belos will (at least initially) succeed with his Day of Unity plan and every person with a coven mark is at risk of either getting trapped and siphoned of their magic or possibly possessed. And chances are there will be an episode where the students have to choose their coven marks (putting Willow, Gus, Amity, etc. at risk should any of them be inducted into their respective covens) and no one knows about their danger. So potentially every magic wielding demon and witch will be ensnared in Belos' plan. Only Luz (human) and King (heritage?), Eda and maybe Lilith (owl curse negates magic) and any undisclosed wild witches and possibly any human allies will be able to stand up to Belos at least until they figure out how to deal with the coven marks. This may change as more episodes drop (maybe some hexside students and others will reject the coven system giving Luz some more potential allies), but that's what how seems to be shaping up to be imho.
@@ashleysilver1445 Yeah timewise, it'll be 18 episodes (the last three will be double the normal episode length). Still sucks the last season got shortened into essentially a movie special. But after seeing how well they handled pacing with the last episode (which was to me, felt like three episodes rewritten into one), I trust the production team to still pull off a pretty well written and memorable story.
Man, it is just crazy HOW EARLY we got these two officially together. Most animated couples (Robstar, Kataang, Korrasami, Starco, Catradora) wait until the end of the series before getting together, despite seasons of build-up. But we've still got more than half of season 2 and all of season 3 with these two already together. This ship is in uncharted waters now, people . . .
Aye, exactly, and as much as I love Star VS the Forces of Evil, the thing one thing that held it back is ironically Starco. They went too far in the extreme of will they won't they and kept it going far longer than they should have. I was worried Lumity would be the same thing in this show but I'm so glad that isn't the case. It's refreshing to see!
I freaking love how completely chill Eda was about the fact that Luz wanted to ask Amity out, no,, "are you sure?" no "you're gay?" no nothing, just "are you sure you feel ready and comfortable?" and "go for it!" nothing else, TOH wins.
That leitmotif has been my favorite piece of music in the show for a while and I'm so, so happy it's connected to such a great arc of character development and growth!!

I got into The Owl House between seasons at a friend's request and I completely agree with what was said at 7:20. It's something you have to experience to truly understand, but The Owl House does it well

As a person whos in an actual relationship with my girlfriend, thats exactly how we ended up being together LMAO it was so awkward and we had to think for a moment other than immediately say "YES", love the representation its so wholesome wtf
This relationship is, in my opinion, a prime example of well execution. Beautifully built since the beginning with good character development of their inner struggles and the courage it takes to bring your inner walls down, be genuine, make yourself vulnerable and dealing with the fears that comes from that. This show took its time and respected all those steps, while at the same time, depicting a realistic awkwardness without being chessy or feeling forced. The end result is cute and wonderful (specially the visual details). This is a how relationships should be depicted, it takes time and struggle and vulnerability, but above all, it's all about love and respect. That, I think, is the best message the LGBTQIA+ community could send, that everyone has value and has the right to love and being loved, to respect and being respected by others, just like any other person. Kudos for the show for depicting it like this, it's good and fresh message.

Alex Hirsch tried having things be more inclusive in Gravity Falls with the episode titles The Love God. Sadly Disney didn’t except those small moments that he wanted to show. I’m glad that Dana was able to create a story with LGBTQ+ representation. I’m glad that Alex Hirsch gets to be a part of this as well

Luz, Amity, I love you and I'm happy for both of you. But damn, you two need to get better at communicating with each other. Jokes aside, I do appreciate how we now get to see them grow and change as a couple.
The writing sold it. Good writing IS the lightning in the bottle. This was setup way early, had time to cook, and paid off when the fans least expected it, catching everyone off guard and giving us all what we wanted and hoped for. It's perfect. Good writing made this possible.
This is why I don't want the show to end, this show means a lot to me. It's the only thing thats making me stay alive and be happy. The story and the plots of this show makes me so happy and excited. It also represents that you don't need to fit in, u just gotta be ur own self with the right people which is why I love this show so much.
The little hand hold over the bi flag is just 💗💗💜💙💙. Also not sure if this is a coincidence or not but the colors in the sky and sea in Eda's dream are the pan flag.
This ship is so good because it feels so genuine. The gay representation is awesome too and important, but I feel everybody can relate to it or find it adorable. You just know Dana and the crew love this ship just as much as the viewers or even more :)
i wish i could've watched this show when i was a kid. i said this multiple times for different reasons (pretty much every episode in season two has been teaching me something anyway, and I'm 19) but the representation is so important. i realized i liked girls back when i was 14 and when it first hit me i sat on my bed crying my eyes out, asking myself why and what was wrong with me. I've learnt a lot and "accepted my situation" pretty quickly actually, thanks to my amazing and open minded friends, but if i had watched toh as a kid this probably wouldn't have happened; i would've thought "oh, I'm just like luz!". I'm grateful kids nowadays are able to watch these kind of cartoons and I'm re-watching gf and toh with my younger cousin, so if he ever finds himself in the same situation as me, he won't have to worry
I personally wish it existed when I was a kid because it shows them not rushing the relationship..not doing anything too romantic with each other too fast and being all cute an awkward! The beginning of my relationship with my boyfriend I felt so embarrassed and awkward and then felt even more embarrassed and awkward that I was feeling embarrassed and awkward about it! I felt bad for denying him too much affection..as if something was wrong with me. Everything I've read and all the movies I've seen end up with the couples making out after their confessions and stuff and being very affectionate with each other with no awkwardness! The Owl house has made me feel a bit better about it..though I mean I'm past that phase in my relationship by now by a few years! Still would of been nice to know earlier that it was ok. He gave me space and didn't rush anything, which I really appreciate.

2:00: That's a really subtle leitmotif there. Hard to notice, but when you do, you can't help but want to hear it. Agreed. The Tunnel of Love was a nightmare... albeit a nightmare that was soon followed by one of the sweetest daydreams we and the characters have ever encountered. Also, can we all agree that the couple's body language all across the ep are just oh so relatable and nice to see? Just look at Amity's hand stretch and thumb rubbing as a means of lessening embarassment (there's also her usual grabbing of her dress' hem), all the way to Luz rubbing her thumb on Amity's hand and squeezing her arm around [Luz's] own stomach during the hand-holding scene! No intertwined fingers scene yet though... probably a lead up to something entirely new to them, if possible. Anyways, can't wait for Eclipse Lake to come out, and again, people, expect the ninth doozy in a row for this season, so as usual, brace yourselves. (Gus, Willow, and maybe even Lilith better keep an eye out for sick Luz though. Having Hooty as her only guardian is NOT a good idea at all.)
I am sure a majority of the common things have pointed out, but the thought occurred to me that Luz and Amity reversed each other's personalities asking each other out. Amity with her blurting out and extra-happy response Yes, and Luz with trying to take the time to ask it in a more serious manner. Just shows how much each has had an affect on one another.
Honestly you don’t know how happy I am that the episode ended with them together and not some weird tension or awkwardness that’s lasts like 5 episodes lol. After the episode ended had a smile on my face for like 20 minutes

This is honestly one of my favourite couples in disney. And your points were really good. Im excited and also worried for what they have in store for the future. But this definitely beats any other relationship by far.
Just want to note that, the show does actually subtly show the struggles of LGBT youth. By having lines like "I'm gonna be made fun of again," "Us dating? That's stupid right?", etc. In universe, these obviously mean other things, but hearing things lines like this can definitely remind us of the feelings we've had about other people viewing our different types of attraction or identification. It's subtle, but I think it does a good job of making it feel like it relates to LGBT topics, without being super explicit about it. (*Ahem* CW's Batwoman, I'm looking at you.)

@@andieallison6792 I read it as a partial reference to the idea that dating other girls as a girl seems kind of ridiculous to her. That's probably what she wasn't directly referencing within the canon itself, but my point is that it's specific language that's very similar to what some queer people roll aroind in their head when they start to realize they might be queer, espescially after being raised in a heteronormative environment. It's a way to help make the struggle here feel relatable without DIRECTLY stating that Amity and Luz at this specific moment in time had doubts about dating because they are both in fact finding it unlikely that a relationship between two girls might seem ridiculous despite how they feel for one another.

This really was an important and well done moment. Not only did it give such amazing and normalize representation for queer couples, but it shows an important lesson for anyone about love. We all want grand, perfect things. But it's not perfect. Love is imperfect, messy, cheesy, corny, mushy, and so much more. Once we accept that, the honesty comes out so much better as we learn more about one another and grow closer in love. Heck, when I first asked out the love of my life, she was in utter despair because of how her abusive family treated her and felt no one loved her. And that's when I blurted out my confession and fully realized it. It came during a hard moment, and took time for it to set in, but it led to us being so happy and getting to a better place. And now we're seven years+ strong. ^_^
This episode was amazing, not just because Luz and Amity are finally together. Like: We get a better look into Hooty and his character, how much he cares about them all and how much he wanted to help King discovered a power, and is learning more about himself and what he is, he's getting a lot of development this season. Eda has sort of come to terms with her past and mainly her curse, which technically ' unlocks ' her harpy form, which would probably help her become the strong witch she use to be, there's also potential for Eda helping Lilith with her new curse too. This episode was perfect in more ways than one
I am a hetero male. Just putting it out there. Now to the main part. I think I've commented on some other videos about what I'm going to say. Growing up as a hetero male in a very hetero media it's refreshing and great to see two gay individuals exploring their relationship with one another. In the media I grew up with I see gay couples boiled down to what Rebecca has said, "a coming out, coming to terms with sexuality or facing oppression." Other time I see a gay character all I saw from that media was how to sexualized it and then done. Nothing needed to give more depth to the gay characters. Yes its good to show the struggle of the individual for being gay but to finally see it normalize to the point that the struggle isn't being gay. The struggle is to ask someone out without being gay being the big hurdle. I have never seen gay couple in a kids cartoon go further than "yep we're dating" end of series. Like in OK K.O let's be Hero. We get to see Enid dating and or married to Red Action AT the end of the series. Princess Bubblegum and Marceline finally get together AT the end of the series. Or finally Jackie dating a girl in Start VS the Force of Evil. Or Kipo and the Ages of Wonderbeast, though we do get a little more than I thought with Benson and Troy season two and three. You don't get to see the growth of the couples on screen. What I've seen with Amity and Luz and how the pacing is going. I do hope that we will see more of that progression in both relationship and struggles. After all we're only in Season 2 of episode 8 and we have another season after this albeit a short one.....sorry for the short essay -_-!!!!
This LGBTQ+ representation is really refreshing and nice to see. I wasn't expecting Lumity to pop sooner in this episode and man this episode never fail to surprise and amaze me. At first I thought the relationship is a bit rushed but after your analysis on their relationship, you change my mind and gave more insight about it. This ship is the best thing I've ever seen animation history and their relationship really works💖,

For those who haven't watched the show (minor spoilers) there is a famous scene where 2 characters (both women) are in a brothel trying to get intel and the following dialogue takes place: "If you want people to give you what you want, you have to let them think you *have what they want*." "And what do I have?" "You're hot!-" /pins her against wall and gets closer/ "-so what'll it be? Man or Woman?" And she asks it in the most casual, non judgemental way ever.
Not directly related to the subject, but both seasons episode Eight were story divided in three full part and not just back and forth between plot, were we follow the adventure for King, Eda and Luz... i fhink that's a neat comeback.
gotta say, great video first of all, but secondly, I wasn't digging Amity's hair change at first, but its really growing on me, it makes her look softer in a way lol
Lumity4Life Those two deserve happiness in which Hooty saying at the end of my personally favorite episode. We needing some cute couples either straight or you know what. It’s great that the love interest isn’t just the “reward” that the main character gets after saving the day. Love just happens, and this series greatly reflects that.

THIS!!! Stories usually focus on characters getting together but now that Lumity became canon so early on, TOH focuses on Lumity _being_ together. It skips right past the “will they won’t they” bs and jumps right into the more interesting part about characters’ relationships.
There are a lot of series that postpone the couple getting together until the end almost as if the creators are afraid that there'll be nowhere to go afterwards (i.e. Star vs. The Forces of Evil; Friends). In reality, starting a relationship isn't just happily ever after and having Lumity happen this early in the series means that we'll, hopefully, get ot explore that.
@@torquedawg1004 i love that they fast tracked through the will they won't they nonsense in this episode; there was even the classic misunderstanding, where Amity started to believe Luz didn't like her back. In a lesser show this would extend the will they won't they plotline for at least another half a show if not more, but The Owl House is not one of those lesser shows. They had the same tropes but moved on past them quickly and still got them together in the episode.
What a way to set an example for future shows. I'm tired of many of them having the will they won't they extended for the entire show.

I'm still stuck on how Eda telling Luz to just go for it regardless of the wild circumstances is directly intrinsic to her line from the second episode: "If we all waited around for a prophecy to make us special, we'd die waiting." Eda has learned so much about living and making the most of any situation that she doesn't ever hesitate to pass that kind of thing onto Luz, and that's just super special to me. If you want something, then go out and get it.
Also, can we talk about how Luz puts the “growth” in “character development”
That quote you referred to is the best quote from Eda, and TOH altogether. When I heard it in the second episode, I knew I was going to like this show a lot. It can be applied to Luz and Amity confessing to one another despite their fears, or almost any other circumstance in life. In the grand scheme of things, nothing will ever end perfectly, and you will never be special. But, as Eda says, “it won’t be perfect, but it doesn’t have to be.” And you can be special to someone in particular.

Their inner and external struggles and the courage to overcome them is a beautiful thing to see and it sends the right message: That you are more than your sexuality, you're full-fledged person with value, qualities and flaws, who deserves to be loved and respected as much as anyone else. But at the same time, your sexuality is nothing to be ashamed of, you're not faulty because of it, all you want is to love and being loved and you also deserve all the support to find your place in the world, which exists. You have the right to it and need the courage to find it.

I've watched a freakin' ton of animated shows and anime throughout the last 30-ish years and I can literally only name 2 other examples of the main couple getting together so early and not on the final episode or something: Disney's own Gargoyles show back in the 90's and the anime Itazura na Kiss.

I like Rebecca's take on the show and Lumitys scenes in general. Her takeaways are perfect. As a parent of a represented kid I love how The Owl House shows that it's perfectly normal to crush on someone of your own sex. As a parent I do not care who my kid likes as long as my kid is a good person and that's all a parent should expect and not be rude about their sexuality. I'm glad Disney is allowing this and when amity kissed Luz my kid about fell out of her seat so I know it had an impact.

I like how they illustrated that no matter how magical, extravagant or "special" you think something like asking out your crush should be, that sort of thing rarely ever goes so smoothly, but that's okay because all that really matters is being genuine and confident enough to do it in the first place.

I just love the adorable awkwardness between these two. It's both natural and realistic. It's these kinds of interactions that just warms my heart. Just imagine how the first kiss may go and by that I mean on the lips.
Personally, I think this is why TOH is so special in comparison to so many other shows that try to be "the first LGBT+ inclusive show in Disney!" They focus so much on the recognition that they forget to treat their characters like, well, characters. So the big representation they patronage ends as a background cameo (which could easily could be edited out for international release) and in turn seem disingenuous for those watching.

Yes, there is a lot of representation, but that is not the core of the story, nor is the representation relayed to the background. It's acknowledged and accepted as another part of life, as it should be. Shows that try to be "the first one" to bring representation not only does a disservice to all the other shows that, while small, they did their part in getting to this point. TOH in the other hand, doesn't try to be a bastion of representation. It just represents, and that's good.
Personally, I don't think pride to be a bad thing, so Danna Terrance can be proud on having make such a good showcase about how to do good representation in a good show (as in making a good show which happens to have representation, not the other way around). Meanwhile, there will still be those showrunners who arrogantly try to be the paragon of representation in order to stroke their ego, and that will promptly be forgotten in less than a year (I am looking at you Kevin Smith).
I didn't even realize it until I heard what Dana said. The lack of social criticism and instead portraying the ideal ads a lot to how refreshing the show feels.
My head canon is that Amity get sweaty, specially her hands, when she is anxious, so grabbing her clothes thight is to ground her self and clean her hands. (That's just what I do, so I love seeing Amity do that)

Worse news: prepare for a lot of angst and dramatic cliffhanger after the season 2 finale and possibly the midseason hiatus
Additionally, we know Belos will (at least initially) succeed with his Day of Unity plan and every person with a coven mark is at risk of either getting trapped and siphoned of their magic or possibly possessed. And chances are there will be an episode where the students have to choose their coven marks (putting Willow, Gus, Amity, etc. at risk should any of them be inducted into their respective covens) and no one knows about their danger. So potentially every magic wielding demon and witch will be ensnared in Belos' plan. Only Luz (human) and King (heritage?), Eda and maybe Lilith (owl curse negates magic) and any undisclosed wild witches and possibly any human allies will be able to stand up to Belos at least until they figure out how to deal with the coven marks. This may change as more episodes drop (maybe some hexside students and others will reject the coven system giving Luz some more potential allies), but that's what how seems to be shaping up to be imho.

Aye, exactly, and as much as I love Star VS the Forces of Evil, the thing one thing that held it back is ironically Starco. They went too far in the extreme of will they won't they and kept it going far longer than they should have.

As a person whos in an actual relationship with my girlfriend, thats exactly how we ended up being together LMAO it was so awkward and we had to think for a moment other than immediately say "YES", love the representation its so wholesome wtf
This relationship is, in my opinion, a prime example of well execution. Beautifully built since the beginning with good character development of their inner struggles and the courage it takes to bring your inner walls down, be genuine, make yourself vulnerable and dealing with the fears that comes from that. This show took its time and respected all those steps, while at the same time, depicting a realistic awkwardness without being chessy or feeling forced. The end result is cute and wonderful (specially the visual details). This is a how relationships should be depicted, it takes time and struggle and vulnerability, but above all, it's all about love and respect. That, I think, is the best message the LGBTQIA+ community could send, that everyone has value and has the right to love and being loved, to respect and being respected by others, just like any other person. Kudos for the show for depicting it like this, it's good and fresh message.

Alex Hirsch tried having things be more inclusive in Gravity Falls with the episode titles The Love God. Sadly Disney didn’t except those small moments that he wanted to show. Jokes aside, I do appreciate how we now get to see them grow and change as a couple.
The writing sold it. Good writing IS the lightning in the bottle. This was setup way early, had time to cook, and paid off when the fans least expected it, catching everyone off guard and giving us all what we wanted and hoped for. It's perfect. Good writing made this possible.
This is why I don't want the show to end, this show means a lot to me. It's the only thing thats making me stay alive and be happy. The story and the plots of this show makes me so happy and excited. It also represents that you don't need to fit in, u just gotta be ur own self with the right people which is why I love this show so much.
The little hand hold over the bi flag is just 💗💗💜💙💙. Also not sure if this is a coincidence or not but the colors in the sky and sea in Eda's dream are the pan flag.
With the amount of hidden pride flags in other episodes, i doubt ANYTHING here is coincidence

This ship is so good because it feels so genuine. The gay representation is awesome too and important, but I feel everybody can relate to it or find it adorable. You just know Dana and the crew love this ship just as much as the viewers or even more :)

i wish i could've watched this show when i was a kid. i said this multiple times for different reasons (pretty much every episode in season two has been teaching me something anyway, and I'm 19) but the representation is so important. i realized i liked girls back when i was 14 and when it first hit me i sat on my bed crying my eyes out, asking myself why and what was wrong with me. I've learnt a lot and "accepted my situation" pretty quickly actually, thanks to my amazing and open minded friends, but if i had watched toh as a kid this probably wouldn't have happened; i would've thought "oh, I'm just like luz!".
I'm grateful kids nowadays are able to watch these kind of cartoons and I'm re-watching gf and toh with my younger cousin, so if he ever finds himself in the same situation as me, he won't have to worry

I personally wish it existed when I was a kid because it shows them not rushing the relationship..not doing anything too romantic with each other too fast and being all cute an awkward! The beginning of my relationship with my boyfriend I felt so embarrassed and awkward and then felt even more embarrassed and awkward that I was feeling embarrassed and awkward about it! I felt bad for denying him too much affection..as if something was wrong with me. Everything I've read and all the movies I've seen end up with the couples making out after their confessions and stuff and being very affectionate with each other with no awkwardness! The Owl house has made me feel a bit better about it..though I mean I'm past that phase in my relationship by now by a few years! Still would of been nice to know earlier that it was ok. He gave me space and didn't rush anything, which I really appreciate.
Very well-put assessment of the beauty that was this scene! I just love how this show has continued to push forward LGBTQ representation in children's media like those before it (Korra, Adventure Time, SU, She-Ra, etc.) and I'm looking forward to how the show tackles their love going forward, especially next episode!

2:00: That's a really subtle leitmotif there. Hard to notice, but when you do, you can't help but want to hear it.
Agreed. The Tunnel of Love was a nightmare... albeit a nightmare that was soon followed by one of the sweetest daydreams we and the characters have ever encountered.
Also, can we all agree that the couple's body language all across the ep are just oh so relatable and nice to see? Just look at Amity's hand stretch and thumb rubbing as a means of lessening embarassment (there's also her usual grabbing of her dress' hem), all the way to Luz rubbing her thumb on Amity's hand and squeezing her arm around [Luz's] own stomach during the hand-holding scene!
No intertwined fingers scene yet though... probably a lead up to something entirely new to them, if possible.
Anyways, can't wait for Eclipse Lake to come out, and again, people, expect the ninth doozy in a row for this season, so as usual, brace yourselves.
(Gus, Willow, and maybe even Lilith better keep an eye out for sick Luz though. Having Hooty as her only guardian is NOT a good idea at all.)
I am sure a majority of the common things have pointed out, but the thought occurred to me that Luz and Amity reversed each other's personalities asking each other out. Amity with her blurting out and extra-happy response Yes, and Luz with trying to take the time to ask it in a more serious manner. Just shows how much each has had an affect on one another.
Lumity took itself to a whole new level with this episode, and I couldn't be happier to see the two now officially a couple.

Just want to note that, the show does actually subtly show the struggles of LGBT youth. By having lines like "I'm gonna be made fun of again," "Us dating? That's stupid right?", etc. In universe, these obviously mean other things, but hearing things lines like this can definitely remind us of the feelings we've had about other people viewing our different types of attraction or identification. It's subtle, but I think it does a good job of making it feel like it relates to LGBT topics, without being super explicit about it. (*Ahem* CW's Batwoman, I'm looking at you.)

@@andieallison6792 I read it as a partial reference to the idea that dating other girls as a girl seems kind of ridiculous to her.
That's probably what she wasn't directly referencing within the canon itself, but my point is that it's specific language that's very similar to what some queer people roll aroind in their head when they start to realize they might be queer, espescially after being raised in a heteronormative environment.
It's a way to help make the struggle here feel relatable without DIRECTLY stating that Amity and Luz at this specific moment in time had doubts about dating because they are both in fact finding it unlikely that a relationship between two girls might seem ridiculous despite how they feel for one another.

Every episode of season 2 has been awesome so far...my favourites are definitely this one and Eda's requiem
This really was an important and well done moment. Not only did it give such amazing and normalize representation for queer couples, but it shows an important lesson for anyone about love. We all want grand, perfect things. But it's not perfect. Love is imperfect, messy, cheesy, corny, mushy, and so much more. Once we accept that, the honesty comes out so much better as we learn more about one another and grow closer in love.
Heck, when I first asked out the love of my life, she was in utter despair because of how her abusive family treated her and felt no one loved her. And that's when I blurted out my confession and fully realized it. It came during a hard moment, and took time for it to set in, but it led to us being so happy and getting to a better place. And now we're seven years+ strong. ^_^
This episode was amazing, not just because Luz and Amity are finally together. Like:
We get a better look into Hooty and his character, how much he cares about them all and how much he wanted to help
King discovered a power, and is learning more about himself and what he is, he's getting a lot of development this season.
Eda has sort of come to terms with her past and mainly her curse, which technically ' unlocks ' her harpy form, which would probably help her become the strong witch she use to be, there's also potential for Eda helping Lilith with her new curse too.
This episode was perfect in more ways than one
I am a hetero male. Just putting it out there.
Now to the main part. I think I've commented on some other videos about what I'm going to say.
Growing up as a hetero male in a very hetero media it's refreshing and great to see two gay individuals exploring their relationship with one another. In the media I grew up with I see gay couples boiled down to what Rebecca has said, "a coming out, coming to terms with sexuality or facing oppression." Other time I see a gay character all I saw from that media was how to sexualized it and then done. Nothing needed to give more depth to the gay characters.
Yes its good to show the struggle of the individual for being gay but to finally see it normalize to the point that the struggle isn't being gay. The struggle is to ask someone out without being gay being the big hurdle. I have never seen gay couple in a kids cartoon go further than "yep we're dating" end of series. Like in OK K.O let's be Hero. We get to see Enid dating and or married to Red Action AT the end of the series. Princess Bubblegum and Marceline finally get together AT the end of the series. Or finally Jackie dating a girl in Start VS the Force of Evil. Or Kipo and the Ages of Wonderbeast, though we do get a little more than I thought with Benson and Troy season two and three.
You don't get to see the growth of the couples on screen. What I've seen with Amity and Luz and how the pacing is going. I do hope that we will see more of that progression in both relationship and struggles. After all we're only in Season 2 of episode 8 and we have another season after this albeit a short one.....sorry for the short essay -_-!!!!

This LGBTQ+ representation is really refreshing and nice to see. I wasn't expecting Lumity to pop sooner in this episode and man this episode never fail to surprise and amaze me. At first I thought the relationship is a bit rushed but after your analysis on their relationship, you change my mind and gave more insight about it. This ship is the best thing I've ever seen animation history and their relationship really works💖,
I haven't even watched this episode yet but I have seen the clip (because I just LOVE to ruin things for myself) and it was so adorable. I am super excited to see the whole episode.

9:15 Arcane has this same approach and I love it. For those who haven't watched the show (minor spoilers) there is a famous scene where 2 characters (both women) are in a brothel trying to get intel and the following dialogue takes place:
"If you want people to give you what you want, you have to let them think you *have what they want*."
"And what do I have?"
"You're hot!-" /pins her against wall and gets closer/ "-so what'll it be? Man or Woman?"
And she asks it in the most casual, non judgemental way ever.
Not directly related to the subject, but both seasons episode Eight were story divided in three full part and not just back and forth between plot, were we follow the adventure for King, Eda and Luz... i fhink that's a neat comeback.
gotta say, great video first of all, but secondly, I wasn't digging Amity's hair change at first, but its really growing on me, it makes her look softer in a way lol

During the dream sequence with Eda she's looking out on a cliff side in her owl beast form, and it looks like there is a completely new titan skeleton in the boiling sea that we've never seen. AND NOBODY IS THEORIZEING OR TALKING ABOUT IT AT ALL!!!
