I watched this video 3 times. Your work is amazing. A room with 10 ft ceilings deserves this type of treatment. I couldn't help but notice the fireplace in the other room...very elegant!
Nice work Dave. I was a finish carpenter for many years. Problem is most people can’t afford or don’t wanna spend the money on his type of trim they always want boring trim. 90% of the work was same cookie cutter trim jobs and only 10% custom. The custom is the best part of the job. It made it fun.
Dave, your work is FANTASTIC & FABULOUS!!!! Thank you for sharing. Please make more videos.....we learn about how you achieve this and see the change from flat and plain woodwork to true professional workmanship is achieved. Bill.
Looks freaking Awesome, great work by the way. Anyone who disagrees are just jealous cause their apartment complex won’t allow them to modify their entry way. Keep up the great job and thanks for the videos
Great to see Before and After but was really hoping to see the transition process in more detail of how you built up the door casing, 4 layer crown, and inlaid panels. This shows off what you are capable of but doesn't really help a home DIYer if he has dreams of building it himself. Great work!
I was able to successfully replicate the door frame design and it looks amazing in person. Too many details to watch out for and a single mistake can throw off the whole thing. Thank you so much for posting this video.
really nice job, looks great. i do that stuff myself, and it looks great to me. i love making my own casings and moldings. super fun work. what you could do to make life easier is to assemble the head pieces on a bench then secure it over the doorways. that head stock has a lot of pieces and going back and forth to the mitersaw gets annoying, but if the project ilia right there you can cut and fit it just by turning around, glue it and tack it in. that’s what i do, just a thought. you might like it or you might not. anyway, your work looks great no matter how you get there.
AMAZING!!!!!!! That must be so expensive to do !!!!!!! I would love to do something like that for my house but I think it would be way to expensive. Increadible job!!
Looks great. I have an entry very similar to that one with undersized trim on the openings. I will try something like what you did. I first have to figure out the crown detail. Thanks for the video.
Rown molding was good crown molding ,but the wainscoting up the stairs lacked molding in center woodboxes .Its still a good work .But addingmolding to center woodbox of wainscoting would look next level wow .
Outstanding craftsmanship. May be a bit much for that home but it’s what the homeowner wanted and that’s all that matters. I would have trimmed the horizontal top piece over the doorways so that it follows the shape of the moldings below it rather than have it simply rectangular and no more than 1/2” reveal all around.
Too much? Really? How much is too much? How much is not enuff? That is why why people are different, some will love, some will hate, thas just the way it is, but i love it. Kudos to ya man
Hats off to you, David! I could never do that kind of work with music (even the kind I liked) blaring like that. I'd be afraid of the racket distracting me and causing a mistake. The front door treatment doesn't work though. Sorry, but I could only think 'square peg in a round hole' with that arched window having no acknowledgement. Should've changed the transom out for a square-edged window, for a cohesive look.
Fantastic work! But, to pompous for such small entrance, I grew up in Italy where we have majestic moldings in large mansions/palaces, all proportionate to space. Smaller entrances such as in this case, call for smaller scale molding, still OK to have lots of details, just scaled to space.
I agree. When I first watched this video a few years ago I was floored by the beauty of his work, but now that I watch it again I agree with the others who say the moldings are too heavy and loud for the room. Restraint is key.
After I looked up the word “pompous”, I discovered that agree with you. It’s not porportioned correctly and it’s irratatingly grand. It is indeed, too pompous. :-)
@Cousin Justin I can't thank Dave enough for the inspiration he provided in this video. I did have some questions but a lot of it I just figured out myself over time.
Entry way with the coat closet just killed it, looked over done and cheap. Too much moldings just makes it look very cheap. A little makes it look tasty and expensive.
I thought so, too...thought it was just me ;) Also, that chair molding going along the wall with the stairs to the right (the area where the actual stair handles are) looked like it ended funny...it was butted out instead of flush with the other piece of wood. Sorry if I don't make sense...I don't know the terms. lol
That didn’t end funny.. that’s called a return. You can’t end a piece of crown with a back bevel that’s tacky and unfinished. That room has very tall ceilings. So it can handle all the detail. He did a really good job and there’s a lot of work that goes into this.. I do it also so I know. Maybe the customer wanted it this way. My wife is a beautician and sometimes clients want things that don’t look good. But you have to do what they want.. this guy shouldn’t get a bad rep because of a customers bad taste.
Terry Burgess well said Terry, and that’s all that really needed to be said because we all do what the customer wants unless it pertains to life and safety and then we can tell them no, this is going to be the way we are going to do it but since this entry way was all cosmetic then he did it the way the homeowner wanted it and since ya his house and not yours, then it doesn’t matter if we like it as long as the homeowner does. I think he did a nice job on the trim
nice work but i dont like the design. i think the head pc should have more depth than the column/legs...yours steps back in over the doorway. but you did a real nice job from what can see from the vid. nice work

Top notch work my brother. Seeing this for the first time. Wow factor off the scale

I don't compliment often but you do amazing work. Job well done.
That could not look sharper! That foyer is all class. Well done. Immediately earns my sub.
That is incredible. It’s nice to know that these things can be added to make a home become elegant.
Looks freaking Awesome, great work by the way. Anyone who disagrees are just jealous cause their apartment complex won’t allow them to modify their entry way. Keep up the great job and thanks for the videos

exactly
I realize this video is a few years ago but you and your team did a great job! It's AMAZING how much a room can transform by adding custom molding.
I agree, this video is 12 years old, but the work is utterly stunning.
I was able to successfully replicate the door frame design and it looks amazing in person. Too many details to watch out for and a single mistake can throw off the whole thing. Thank you so much for posting this video.
Good job man. I wish I could be this good.
Your works second to non brother! Really impressive
Gorgeous. Absolutely gorgeous! Like you said gives the house a powerful and grandeur first impression!
That fire place is no joke as well. Very well done all the way around
Only a Boston guy could do such nice work. Just giving a fellow Massachusetts guy a shout out

Looks really nice Dave. Excellent craftsmanship.
Bravo brother. You did an amazing job. Thanks for the idea. The rest of those keyboard trolling critics are hilarious. Give the man props.

Looks great. I have an entry very similar to that one with undersized trim on the openings. I will try something like what you did. I first have to figure out the crown detail.
Thanks for the video.

Great job, it's nice to see how proud of your work you are. Thank you for the ideas for my own house.

We need you! ...move to Texas. ;) hehe Nicely done!
Texas Moores, look up DFW Crown.......
Great that Dylan playing in the background!!!
David: How much trim would you like?
Customer: Yes
David: Say no more fam

Awesome Work team

This guy is Will from Good Will Hunting. My boy's wicked smaht!
I love your creative decoration
Nice, you have a good'eye for detail.
That is an incredible transformation, thank you
Really beautiful work!
Wowwwww my type of work job well done
Please do more videos, I love your work. I do similar work and love to get new and different ideas. How do you price a job like this?
Hats off to you, David! I could never do that kind of work with music (even the kind I liked) blaring like that. I'd be afraid of the racket distracting me and causing a mistake.
The front door treatment doesn't work though. Sorry, but I could only think 'square peg in a round hole' with that arched window having no acknowledgement. Should've changed the transom out for a square-edged window, for a cohesive look.
I could never do any work without music or an audio book or podcast playing.
So gorgeous!!!!!!
Excellent work!!! How much would a job like that cost?
alot
What did you cap the top of the crown with over the doorways? Really nice/clean install
David, how did you plan all of this? Surely this wasn't just improvised as you went along?
Mesmerizing!
Damn impressive I subbed

This and all replies to it are full of crap!!! When doing moldings - go big. You probably don't like Ricoco either.
Awesome work man wow
Looks amazing
Looks great!
Great work!
What kind of filling do you use? After a year, we notice gaps now on our connecting panels/molding
50 Cal Proof drywall mud. Try that.
Excellent, excellent work....
Where in Mass do you work? I'm in Bristol county and looking for someone to do finish work.
Fantastic work!
Amazing work.
I just built this myself and it looks awesome, I've also added board and baton , tied in. not sure how to upload send pm if want to see pics
wow really nice dave
Looks awesome!
I'd like to duplicate the 4 level crown molding he has in this video - does anyone know what pieces he used? Or do you have suggestions?
Beautiful and talented
Great finish!
Custom custom custom I love custom nice job
We replicated this and added some length to it due to the ceilings being 20 ft but I will post a video soon about it
What does a job like this cost approximately
Certainly double digit K but absolutely justified for the craftsmanship and all those people working on it.
NOW IT LOOKS LIKE VERSALLES!!!!

had to watch with the sound turned off, the music ruins it...

Where are you located Dave?
Joseph P. He sounds like he pahks his cah in Hahvahd yahd.
@Cousin Justin Why doesn't Dave respond to any of the questions?
@Cousin Justin I can't thank Dave enough for the inspiration he provided in this video. I did have some questions but a lot of it I just figured out myself over time.
god dam awsome i hope i can do this to my house sir
I would get little gargoyles to sit on top with how big it is lol.
hi would like to see the steps from the start of the moulding
It would be very helpful if you would have went through ever detail including board sizes. Looks great but absent details.
Shit that looks sweet!
Entry way with the coat closet just killed it, looked over done and cheap. Too much moldings just makes it look very cheap. A little makes it look tasty and expensive.

im with you guys!
In YOUR opinion. Its not fact.

Great job Dave, next time turn music down when u talking.
How come you're not consistent in uploading your work?
That's fckn beautiful
Nice job man.... get the tin knocker to turn down the Dylan next time...all joking aside man...nice job!
Great Trim! Music is really distracting.
Jay Merrett Question
nice work but i dont like the design. i think the head pc should have more depth than the column/legs...yours steps back in over the doorway. but you did a real nice job from what can see from the vid. nice work
Nice video.... Too Bad for the back ground..... Music????
Turn the radio down
Wouldn’t it have been easier to build on a table then install as a unit?
That's ur opinion
