  • In this episode we leave the van behind in Cairns for a weekend getaway up to Cooktown.
We travel in convoy with family and friends as we cross the Daintree River, along the coast to Cape Tribulation, where the rainforest meets the sea.
We then hit the dirt of the Bloomfield Track! This features its infamous 31% incline climb, where you feel like you laying down in your seat.
We stop and explore a few of the creeks before continuing on through the Townsite of Bloomfield before stopping at the Lions Den Hotel for a drink and then on to Cooktown for our first night away from the caravan.
In the morning we get a surprise message that completely changes our plans!
We hope you enjoy this episode, it will give you a taste of what to expect, but we would seriously suggest you do this over a few days rather then complete it as fast as we did!

Yes, you could. Plenty do, you just void insurance and warranty i believe as it cleary stipulates not suitable for caravans.
But ither then the steep and windy sections it was a good road

Your video popped up on my feed and I am taken back to early 2010 when I was travelling around in the same area. So great to see it again, from back here in Scotland. Happy travels!

Thanks for sharing your adventure, you two are a great team. We left our van at Mowbray River Road, Big4 Port Douglas in August this year and had a look at the Bloomfield Track as well but went to Cooktown via the Mulligan Hwy and Lakeland.

      Thank you!
Ah yes, thats the way we went home the next day i believe and then saw Lakeland a month later when we went up to the Cape.
Such beautiful country that whole region!

I lived up that way when they were putting the bitumen down between Bloomfield and the Den. It was a rough old track back in the day.

Thats awesome, i did expect it to be more of a 4wd track, its a pretty good road really. Still a beautiful drive though

@@Ourwhittleadventure It is beautiful. It used to take nearly an hour to get from Ayton to the Lions Den, before the bitumen.

3:18 where you said croc country me and my mate walked out to nipped deep water trying to make it to a sand bar while fishing. Found a really cool patch of reef out to sea a little more. We ending up turning around before we got snatched by a croc. Long and behold when we got back up to the rocks here comes the snapping log. Not our first close call up here but damn gets your blood pumping

23:52 Some trivia about that bridge: When it was originally designed, the bridge was going to follow the angle of the road. However, the EPA found a very rare frog species lived directly in the path of the bridge, so they had to redesign it to avoid the habitat, hence it going the way it does now.

I love history like that, wonder if that frog is still there today
