🎯 That's the straight truth. I've bought 3 used HD's from Facebook marketplace. I polished out 2 of them and flipped'em already for decent prices. I kept a beautiful 2000 ultra electra glide for $6,500 that runs amazing. It's only got 35,000 miles on it. It's gorgeous... Looks brand new after serious polish. It looks better than a lot of other used bikes at the dealership for $15,000 or more. I get the same experience for half of the price, and that thing gets compliments every time I ride it. 🤷♂️
A couple of years ago I was looking at a Harley. I couldn’t get the dealer to even come down to the MSRP, asking 5K above that. Harlies are primo bikes but they need to change their marketing and how they treat customers.

I hate Harley's management as I think they are running the company into the ground while pretending they will be the next Rolex and that somehow their bikes are 'luxury vehicles' because they are expensive. I am also not a fan of the look of the 2024 touring models. I also hated the dealership experience from the Mega HD Malls, and the general attitude from staff and stupid games they try to play with you, while wasting your time. Older Harley-Davidson motorcycles last forever. Sure, things wear out but it's all available new or used. I really don't consider Harley-Davidson motorcycles expensive. You can buy an expense one but that's if you just have to have top of the line. I wouldn't buy a new motorcycle because in my opinion there's just too much unnecessary electronics to go bad and leave you stranded. I guess it OK if you're going to trade the bike in every few years. It's like with the cars now in that the technology will keep changing every few years and replacement components may not continue to be manufactured beyond 10 years after. A 1960's XLCH was magneto fired and didn't even have a battery. It still got Ya down the road in style! So all this additional technology has turned the machine into the starship enterprise. Better have triple A with recreational vehicle for when the 2024 and newer bikes get some years on them. The late Sonny Barger wrote in his book that the only way to kill a Harley-Davidson is fire. Now I don't think that will apply to the New machines. Not saying they aren't marvelous, Just way to much B.S. involved in keeping those wheels turning.
I had a BMW. The input shaft on that particular model had a factory defective input shaft to the transmission, BMW didn’t recognize it as a problem and that part is NOT available. The splines were cut far too short and sheared off on the clutch plate. I can get a Harley anything part with a quick search. Huge difference right there I’ll stick with my UL. Thanks
HD shifted focus to higher-margin models beginning in the 00s and has been synonymous with high prices ever since. What used to be a utilitarian brand of the people post WW2 became a toy for the wealthy by end of century.
Actually H.D. bikes have always been expensive. But the fact is their touring bikes are cheaper now than ever when accounting for inflation. 10k in 1987 would be 27,500 today, as an example.
The reason I went with Indian over Harley wasn’t about the bikes. They are comparable. I didn’t like Harley Davidson‘s business practices. Specifically; charging $650 for initial service which equates to two hours labor and fluids, and I didn’t care for their markups over MSRP. If you can’t put the MSRP and YOUR price as well on a price tag there’s something wrong. I understand that there are some dealers that sell for MSRP, but they are few and far between. But if you paid the price and that’s what you want, that’s great!
I took my UL in for it’s first service at gasoline alley Harley Davidson and it was a few dollars under 500 but if I bought the bike there , the first service would have been free.
@ That’s better. So service for the Indian is $350 with fluids and 300 without. My dealerships sales department is OK, but the service department is phenomenal! Exceptionally friendly, first name, step outside and chat with you for a while, type of folks. Loving my Indian experience. But if you’re in the market for a Harley I would take Jerry’s advice and go right now! And even if you don’t buy a bike, at least get a T-shirt or a hat as the apparel line is helping this great American company get through tough times, bike sales-wise.
@patcady310 UL? are they using those letters again or Do you have an old Flathead? That 1st service would be about 75-80 years overdue? Be like a few millimeters a year average riding. To reach the miles. I must not know what a UL is now.
@ I think that’s the modern ultra limited with the lower seat height? I think it has like a 25 or 26 inch seat height? But if it’s a 310 UL, he could be saying that he took his fishing reel 310 UL into Harley and they rinse off the saltwater, lubricated it and put on a new spool of 30 pound tesit for $500 or so. And that would make sense.
I'm still hoping HD gets it worked out to turn that around. It's not just HD though, there's big money & globalist forcing the woke stuff on all the big companies. I wish we could make HD employee & rider owned.
My only gripe is that I went to 5 different Harley Davidson dealers in the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky area and they all wanted to do was try and gouge me with higher prices on a fully loaded brand new touring motorcycle. This was last year. They treated me like a piece of crap and talked down to me. The reason I watch your videos is because I enjoy your riding and teaching videos. I respect you and like the videos and the videos are useful for always improving ones skills. I always liked Harley until the dealers treated me like they were doing me a favor by selling to me and the companies stance on looking down on their customers. So, I ended up buying a different American made motorcycle. I paid cash for it. Therefore, I could afford it and wasn't envious of the Harleys. Although, I really wanted to buy one, I absolutely love my choice and I don't look down on others for their choice. Thank you for your time and the videos that you bring.
You are 100% correct with the Harley haters. Why click on a brand you don’t like. It is a constant reminder on why almost all bikers are great people. I rode my Harley to Sturges from NJ. Spent the month of July riding 6,000 miles. Of all the people I met, the bikers were the best, no haters. Good economy, bad economy, people talking trash about HD management, ,,honestly I will NEVER give up my Harley, Never talk trash. It is what it is. Some people just need to get on with their lives

I always enjoy your helpful videos. A long time ago I bought a new HD Sportster 1200 Custom and I had the dealer do the stage one. I really loved that bike and it was always reliable for me. Than I got my first girlfriend that liked to ride and it was too small for touring with comfort. The Roadking was a bit out of my reach for paying cash. I discovered a not yet well known new brand called Victory. I got a great deal on a Victory TC Touring Cruiser. We rode that bike all over the Western US. Never needed anything but routine maintenance. Age and job injuries meant I had to downsize to get the weight and seat height where I could feel confident. I went to the HD dealer a few weeks ago with my HD riding brothers. The prices shocked me because I hadn't followed HD for a long time. The only bike I could maybe manage happened to be the cheapest being the Softail Standard but it is still expensive. HD had a dilemma, try to compete or become super premium brand. So now they are super premium at premium prices. I am not mad because I just don't see value for money in a HD for my financial tolerance level. Can I buy one, yes, but would I be content to have spent so much, I don't know but I doubt it. I want HD to survive but it will take an amazing deal to get me to bite. What is sad is that HD was a working man's bike, aspirational yes, but you could find a way. Now you have to be a drug dealer or professional class person to buy one. HD went upmarket but is that upmarket buyer around in sufficient numbers to save HD?
They're not for the rugged individual working class anymore. There like the motorhomes now; There for the retired with fat pension government workers, public school teachers, police, professors, and all those postal workers. As a working class person, you have the choice of taking out a big loan or just find one of the thousands of fine used machines out there from a honest private seller. Harley-Davidson will still finance used bikes for you if you buy one from a private seller. It's not a class thing, but keeping up with the joneses' just comes with a large price. Let the fat wallets uy the new ones and park 'em in the climate controlled garage then when they sell it you have a 1-4 year old new bike. I agree though, the bikes really aren't that expensive the American wages just haven't kept up.
I would NEVER EVER finance a motorcycle! (or a boat, recreational vehicle, or anything not absolutely nessisary) But I have owned over 100 Harley-Davidson motorcycles over the years. I don't get the obsession with brand new motorcycles. Most of the bikes I currently own I can remember wanting to buy when they were new. They didn't stay new very long I tell Ya! Still great bikes though. That's just me though. Another thing I don't get is when I go to the Harley-Davidson dealership to get parts there's always a bunch of customers just hanging around like it's their destination. I wouldn't hang out at the Chevrolet, or Ford dealership looking to belong So why the bike dealership? Must be under a spell or something. To each his/her own I recon.
I was recently looking at a Heritage with a Evolution. I currently have a 78 Shovel and a 2011 Ultra. My wife doesn't understand why I need two, let alone three. I turn 70 next spring, so a new machine is out of the question. Enjoy your video's. Never to old to learn new tricks within limitations. Keep up the good work and say Hi to your wife.
I have a 2005 Ultra Classic big bore kit and 6 speed trans. It will be my last Harley Davidson. Matter of fact I don't think that I would get a new model if they would trade me even !!!!
I'd bet if you asked for 10% off one of those bikes, you'd be riding and smiling pretty fast. However, if you have no intention of buying one, it doesn't matter what they have or what the price is.
Indian is running similar incentives as Harley. A couple years ago I stopped at a local Honda /Suzuki dealership to get a blade for my Honda lawn mower. Suzuki was running a deal that if you bought a Suzuki cruiser you could get another Suzuki of your choice for 50% off!
Good video. I picked up a 24 Roadglide in Whiskey Fire and black the end of July OTD with additional 2yr warranty and tire and wheel for 28,899. Some dealers are about making that sale and keeping the customer happy and comming back.
If you think your 2019 is awesome, I’m at a loss for adjectives on how you will feel about the 2024’s. Lighter (yes you can feel the difference), faster, better tech and importantly, run noticeably cooler

Thanks for sharing the details that you know. I don't get to ride much these days so a new bike doesn't make sense. My 2007 Softail is paid for and runs good, so I guess I'll hang on to it for a while. But I still enjoy hearing about new HD bikes and your take on riding. Keep the videos coming.
Great video and thank you was watching it and wifey said you can get a second bike now. My inner comment was thank you for this video. I’ll be going shopping this weekend for the rg3 gray.
I rode sport bikes for many years and I thought I knew how to ride until I bought a touring Harley. I had to learn how to ride a heavy bike it was a very humbling experience being able to do a "willie" on a sport bike but not being able to make a U turn on a heavy bike. Prices high or low if you get a Harley take the Ride Like a Pro classes. I do not get anything out of these comment other than tell Mr. Jerry Thank you. I love my Harley I ride two up with confidence because of his class.
Great videos. Wish I had found this site earlier, could possibly have saved me a fractured shoulder, cracked rib cage and an ambulance ride. Still alive, much of it thanks to using all proper PPE.
Haters will always hate and are Harley Davidson's expensive compared to other brands, sure, but when you are the best, you pay for that quality! Can't compare a "chevy" to a "Caddi".... there are differences for sure.... and that is what you get with a Harley!
Jerry, Mark Tinnirella here. Retired Motor Sergeant. Been riding Harleys since the AMF buy back in the 80s. My concern is, as enthusiats dwindle, seems like younger riders aren't into it as much. People rightly criticized the quality issues AMF had, but if it wasn't for AMF, there'd likely be no Harley Davidson today. I predict a future bailout may be in play, if their cash situation doesn't improve. Just my opinion.
I don't see a bailout coming. The Motor company is actually owned by the major stock holders, Black Rock and Vanguard. Could another big company buy enough stocks to put themselves in the position of major stock holder? I would think so, but that kind of thing is over my head.
Sound thoughts Jerry, heres mine. Sales of motorcycles generally both used and new across the western societies are down immensely, we have seen this before. However we can see the beginnings of a bounce. HD will most likely reduce production to assist the reduction in new stock and yes old stock will get discounted to support that stock reduction -24 months for vow prices will go back up through the roof. Buy now is a good idea if you can afford it.
@@PanM8nah I think he’s commenting on the fact that HD has bikes that are on DISCOUNT for $38K. That just so hilariously illustrates the point that HD is severely overpriced even with their more base model touring bikes.
Jerry, I like you and the way you teach, and generally your perspective. (that’s why I click on all your videos) I like my Harley. I can afford any bike I want. But I hate a lot of what corporate Harley stands for. I’m honestly on the fence about buying another Harley or switching brands. I guess that’s why I’m in a “hold” pattern right now.
Harley continued to raise prices year after year on new bikes, parts and service, it gets to a breaking point some people say enough is enough I'm done with buying new Harley. Harley needs to realize high priced bikes won't sell in a horrible economy.
Actually, H.D. reduced prices on their two most popular models in 2024, the Street Glide and Road Glide by 2 to 4 thousand dollars. Whats more, H.D. bikes are less expensive now than 20 years ago as I proved with this video th-cam.com/video/fj0-BKhvWnI/w-d-xo.html
@@motorman857 I just saw a ad from my local Harley dealer they put some discounts on 24' models, never seen this type of sale before, they always stuck to msrp. Sales must really be slow for them to do this.
I can confirm. I just bought a 2024 Low Rider S and got it for less than MSRP. I was actually going to go get a slightly used bike somewhere else, but Harley made me a pretty good offer on the Low Rider S so I went brand new instead.
Thanks for posting. $2K increase for 2025 and HD is not selling their 2024. I don't understand HD's strategy. I will keep my 2003 RK and 2005 deluxe. Great machines.
Great video again! I enjoyed it. I am considering putting in an offer on a Pearl white 2024 RG with the blacked out engine and a touring pack for the wife. A little concerned about other associated costs as I am 6ft5 and will need a new seat, possible controls extensions etc.. Oh and an aftermarket exhaust to make it sound like a Harley! I currently ride my '05 RK Classic with the 88 Twin cam, and I love it, but extremely underpowered.
To get the actual price of any product that deals in trades in's you simply do your research, find out what similar bikes are going for, and make an offer. But you must be a buyer at the moment you make the offer. Pretty simple. That's been true with cars for 90 years and it works the same with bikes. An asking price is just that. Asking.
Wow that Harley shop is standing room only. Yep sounds like a good time to buy a bike. I know in our local Harley shop they are currently also doing serious reductions on the 2024 models. Everyone was also snapping up all the 2023 Blk Street glides left due to they preferred those models.
Jerry, in my opinion the 2024 price drop on cruisers was a big mistake. Did nothing for sales but certainly hurt our resale value. Killing the Ultras and converting to a kit will also hurt resale values. Spending BIG $$$ taking a SG or RG and converting it to a Ultra will be a waste of money as no matter how much $$ you spend accessorizing it, it will still have the trade in value of a stripped down SG or RG. This move will kill resale values, hence making the bikes more expensive to trade in.
I agree that the drop in price for 24 hurt values and didn’t offer much positive relief. Regarding the Ultra resale, I disagree. The reason my first Harley was an Ultra was because the resale on those is much lower than a Street Glide. 🤷♂️
What really hurts HD resale value is the number of low-mileage bikes being sold because their riders have aged out. When there is a large supply, in the hands of motivated sellers, prices plunge.
I have 2 HD's and I love them. Sure there may be better bikes out there, but none will get you the HD experience. The sense of comradery from other riders and the feeling of freedom you get. Back to the old saying of " Only in America ".
There's a lot of people commenting about the price, but what you get for your money in comparison to what used to be is a magnitude greater. The amount of changes to the newr bikes is an order of magnitude more than they were in the past. That needs to factor in. The bikes today are vastly improved over iron that's older. Of course, there's nothing wrong with the older bikes, I mean we all rode them, but they don't hold a candle to what Harley is producing today. Comparatively, they are reasonably priced when considering the value of a dollar these days. These are truly the salad days.
Saturday the 10/9/2024 I visited my Sacramento and found the “dealer markup” was near $4,000. The salesman said that reflects the market. The greed and /or management issues is why I’ll keep my 01 softail. I could buy a new car for what they’re asking.
I'm really not happy about HD dropping the Ultra Limited. I'm usually trading my bike every 3 to 4 years. I have a 2020 and will either keep it until it gives me problems or get a goldwing. I'm of the mindset that Harley-Davidson is purposely promoting the RG over the ultras due to costs savings during assembly.
My 2018 Road Glide will be my last touring bike. I will never spend what a new bike costs to keep it running to 200,000 miles. I also have a 2009 Softail Custom to putt around on.
Harley wants to sell more bikes. To do this, they should offer a five-year unlimited-mile warranty, like the one I had when I bought my new 2019 C50. I have done 80,000 km with no problems. Argyle Motor Sports Edmonton. They haven't had that promotion since . It was only on for 2020. Ive never owned a Harley but I'm interested probably buy new bike. in the spring or summer of 2025
They already make a RK standard loaded with ABS RDRS and a wide verity of colors and the 114 motor for about 20K. It's called the RK Poilice bike. I've done many videos about that and how to get one.

Just traded my 2022 Pam America Special for another brand because of the problems with it. In the 15mos I owned it two fuel pumps, a rh control cluster, three batteries, and an overheating problem. Harley is not making a quality product. 90 days waiting for parts puts a damper on usability, too. Oh, and don't mention the huge 50% depreciation. Hi and thanks for the video! I am not a rich guy, a normal family father and I have to finance my bike. I have been riding Harleys for 6 years so I have no experience of those "good old times" everybody is longing to. Now days everything is expensive. You can´t compare a 1980´s harley to a modern version; of course it is more expensive, but also safer, more reliable, more powerful. Greetings from Finland, Europe! We have canadian weather so ....
I have a few Harley’s I have just bought a 24 street glide. I’m from the uk and our local Harley outlet has just closed its doors as well as a couple more here. It’s not looking good.
Great…….drop the price on 2024 models, ruin resale values of pre-owned bikes, then raise prices on 2025 models. I own a 2021 FLTRXS and all the drama around pricing just leaves me shaking my head.
No more Ultra ?? My dream bike as for now is a Harley-Davidson Ultra Limited based on the Street Glide CVO 2023 chassis and suspensions, 121ci VVT, classical batwing and instruments and commands (no game console on board) with a weight target around 350 - 380kg. I would buy it right now. I love the Ultra Limited (Anniversary, Stage II), I feel home with it.
True, but a new Goldwing is current technology, not a 1972 bike with some new stuff bolted onto it. Myself, I have a 1999 Goldwing, and consider it better than the newer model (until just the last couple of years), at a fraction of the price. It outperforms Harleys, it's more comfortable and less expensive to ride, and it doesn't anger everyone in the neighborhood when I light off the engine in the morning.
IMHO if you can’t pay cash you shouldn’t be buying a recreational toy, although 90% of bike purchases are financed. I thinking “Hunter’s finger paintings will continue to be worthless too.
I think for the first time in years of watching your videos I have to disagree with you to a point. I was in a Harley Dealership this Spring with full intention of trading my Indian Pursuit for a Tri Glide because my knee isn't the best since a fairly bad Motorcycle Accident. They wouldn't even talk to me. They wanted nothing to do with my 2022 Pursuit. Since then I've been getting emails telling me to come on in, they want to make a deal. I have nothing against Harley Motorcycles. I wouldn't buy one now because of the Dealership & the Woke CEO they have.
Local dealer made me a deal I'm happy with. Best deal? Nope. Somebody will always say "You got robbed!". Good enough for me? Yep. Ride it like ya stole it!

The late Sonny Barger wrote in his book that the only way to kill a Harley-Davidson is fire.
Now I don't think that will apply to the New machines.
Not saying they aren't marvelous,
Just way to much B.S. involved in keeping those wheels turning.
and don't forget, the $3,000 discount is from HD corporate....dont let the dealership get away without making *their* contribution to your purchase!
Harley moves production to Thailand, ups their prices, and promotes woke policies.... No thanks. I'll buy an Indian.

I’m definitely keeping my 2001 Fatboy for a few more years!!! Long ago paid for, low miles and runs great.
When a BMW is less expensive, HD is in trouble.
Thanks
@ good point.
@@motorman857I believe you. TampaHD has always done good by me…bought 3 new bikes from them, usually when things are down.
Until Harley shareholders replace the board and CEO, there is not good news from Harley.
@patcady310 UL?
are they using those letters again or Do you have an old Flathead?
That 1st service would be about 75-80 years overdue?
Be like a few millimeters a year average riding. To reach the miles.
I must not know what a UL is now.
@ I think that’s the modern ultra limited with the lower seat height? I think it has like a 25 or 26 inch seat height? But if it’s a 310 UL, he could be saying that he took his fishing reel 310 UL into Harley and they rinse off the saltwater, lubricated it and put on a new spool of 30 pound tesit for $500 or so. And that would make sense.
Great point about clicking on a Harley video. It's all about two wheels to me, no matter what you like. I dig my hog and always will. God Bless
Its not the price, its the politics and Harley lost and better turn a HARD 180 if they want a future.

There like the motorhomes now;
There for the retired with fat pension government workers, public school teachers, police, professors, and all those postal workers.
Harley's were always expensive motorcycles. Todays Harley's are cheaper than they were 20 years ago and are now right in line with the competition.
Good to see you still have your Revival. Thanks for the content.
I couldn't imagine owing money on a motorcycle. Guess that's why I like the Japanese bikes.

I rode sport bikes for many years and I thought I knew how to ride until I bought a touring Harley. Haters will always hate and are Harley Davidson's expensive compared to other brands, sure, but when you are the best, you pay for that quality! Can't compare a "chevy" to a "Caddi".... there are differences for sure.... and that is what you get with a Harley!
That's how I got my Kawi! Manufacturers rebate PLUS dealer waived setup and import fees. My OTD price was a bit less tha MSRP.
Another great video!! Keep'em comin' brother!!!

Some dealers are still selling 2021-2023s for just as much or even higher than the 2024s. Lower the goddamn prices
Yep.
100%! Great perspective. Thank you Jerry.
another great video Jerry. thanks for all the great information.
@@stretchman490 Comparatively, they're still more expensive than their competition and the sales numbers vs competitors are demonstrating this.
Same can said for the Honda Goldwing. But the base engine isn't a ancient tractor engine.
