I agree, regardless of whatever brand you ride it’s kind of stupid to buy a new bike frankly. There are so many great bikes that are two and three years or even older with low mileage. You can buy at a fraction of the cost.
Yep. I just picked up a 2021 Street Glide Special. I probably saved almost $10k. I purchased my 1st two Harley’s brand new in the late 90’s. After that I only got used.
While I agree, I still keep an eye on the new stuff, and pray people buy them so I can have something to buy 10 years from now. I’m afraid the used market will suck in 10 years at the rate we’re going.
If Lexus Automotive said "We are no longer building Lexus cars, if you want a Lexus, you have to buy a Toyota, and make a Lexus out of it....and it's going to cost you more!" Lexus people are not going to do this, they are going to buy another luxury car plain and simple. Harley Davidson just gave the Honda Gold Wing, and the Indian Challenger a brand new customer base. If the Limiteds aren't selling, then the obvious option is to make less of them, or make it a special order from the manufacturer, but you don't throw away your flagship motorcycle. This is the same mistake Dodge is making with their Charger models.

I just want to thank all the folks that buy these bikes new. I look forward to picking one up in a few years for pennies on the dollar with only a couple grand on the odometer and $10k in accessories.
You are quite correct. Purchased a 17 Road Glide brand new. 3 miles on it. Dumped 8K in accessories to try and make mine look different. Everyone does this. JD Powers valued my bike retail at 16K. All I could get for my bike that had 36K of money invested counting the 28K purchase price was 15K. I lost 18K on a bike with 4000 miles. Screw HD. Now I see Honda Gold Wings with 20K MILES, 5 OR 6 YEARS OLD selling for 20K easy all day long. They hold value. And this is a stock bike. No 10K in accessories.
They are out of their minds with the prices. Maybe they should start making all of their parts in the USA and be a real made in the USA motorcycle again.
@@gardnerwebb3749less of made in the USA? That isnt how that works. It pretty much ALWAYS cost more if something is made in the USA vs cheaper labor companies. That is the entire point of building elae where is to increase profits. Why would they build out of country if it cost more to do so?
@@walkingwolf8072 even if their interested young people can't afford to buy a motorcycle because homes are so expensive now due to many factors. Main reason being international corporations started buying houses off the free market a few years ago and even paying more than fair value so they could turn around and "lease" them to the government to "house immigrants" that are here illegally and legally. If you decrease the supply of any product there is demand for the price will go up fast. This helps illegal alliens and hurts all Americans. If people have less money and you raise the price of a motorcycle less people will buy motorcycles.
@@walkingwolf8072 Even that's way out of reach, housing inflation outstripped everything else so by the time the younger people can afford a home they're not going to be able to even afford a child in a home they may need to share with roommates. In fact what may bring about a surge of two wheels is that the four wheel options are starting to price themselves out as well but the two wheel options may freak many out as it's going to be the stand up type of scooters and not gas engine options.
I doubt it, it is a whole different market with the young preferring retro, and sport bikes. Newbies are buying Groms. Unless HD decides to compete, they are toast or government bailout.

Im glad I bought my 2019 road glide special this year (bought it used with 13K miles on it). I looked for a long time before pulling the trigger. I wanted a very specific look and it couldn't be bought as a factory bike from Harley. That concept was a 2019 or 2020 Road glide special in Scorched Orange. It also had to have the tour pack and lowers added. I was specific that I wanted the Special because I wanted the blacked out parts, and also wanted the stretched bag look. FInally pulled the trigger in august and have really enjoyed the bike for touring. We put 5K miles on it in 2 months. As a bonus, it also had the Ohlins suspension front and rear, Klockworks windshield, and Stage 2 audio with minimal engine mods. Yay for me..I have no desire to move up to the 24+ models. I personally dont prefer the all digital gauge package. I like the version I have with the analog gauges AND the screen for map, etc. If they go thru with the concept of a base model Road Glilde/Street glide, and then "upsell the packages" I think its a win for the harley biz, but NOT for the people who want to buy them. Cost will go up to buy the bikes and package them they way they want, AND they wont get that back in resale later if they want to upgrade to a newer model. Just my 2 cents.
Knowing what I know about the motor company itself and the quality of what they're selling, I'm stupefied that anyone would be interested in anything Harley Davidson sells?

Harley should have never got rid of Buell- Buell, the company & the designer could have taken the company into the future (ICE, electric & sport bikes) appealing to a younger demographic, while keeping the Harley brand smaller & nostalgic. A bad CEO can hurt a company, several bad CEO’s will destroy a company.
@@gordonwrichert8240 Erik Buell, is 74 I think. His former company, EBR was bought in bankruptcy going on 10 years ago. That owner got ahold of the Buell name again at some point and has been trying to build the brand back. He definitely stepped off in different directions with the cruiser and Baja. He is in the price brackets that are likely to stay limited sales. We'll see I guess. The cruiser sure got a lot of buzz so maybe it will be a hit. A blank canvas for the price of a Picasso. And then they sell you the "paints" for extra. Harley's not going to get me again with that. Funny how other companies can sell you a whole car for the price that Harley sells a motorcycle. There's something very wrong there. After owning, riding, and working on Harleys I can tell you there's nothing premium about the build of these bikes and definitely not more tech, engineering, or materials cost than a car yet Harley charges the same. Motorcycles used to be way cheaper than a car. I bought my first brand new Harley for $6,500. The biggest lie that we've been sold in the past 20 years is that a motorcycle is a "luxury" item.
I remember the whole purpose for buying a CVO was because it had the nice paint jobs & now they want to charge you $6k extra for two tone paint. GTFOH! I'll probably never buy another Harley. Mine is almost paid off & I think I'll be good.
Get less for more money seems to be the American way.I Bought a new 2009 electric glide Ultra for 21,500 and a new 2017 Road Glide Ultra with few extras for 29,500 and now you got to purchase what they’re calling the long haul package without tour pack speakers and no lights. Why raise the price because Trump is talking about tariffs I don’t think that affected prices when raised tariffs before. Make things in America again.
At this point, it really doesn't matter what we think. HD is just gonna roll on with total abandonment. This is why I purchased an older bike, my second in the stable. Peace!
They still have the DEI CEO and board of directors who don't even ride. Until the company gets rid of those leeches and get people who actually like to ride, they are going to continue to go down the road of Bud Lite.

Because the new bikes are ignorantly ugly. I was planning on being on the market when i heard there would be a redesign, then i saw them. Im not at all on the market.
Maybe they need to focus on quality first. I bought a 2023 street glide. Had it 9 mos. Ive been riding 52yrs. No newbie. First thing the shifter broke off. Then even though it had nothing added from factory the charging system took a shit. They had it 2 mos. Got it back and the lights pulsed. Still charging issues. Kept it 3 weeks and got it fixed. Then I got caught out in the rain. Bike shut down. Turns out water was running down inside the fairing and shorting it out. The handlebars felt notchy in turns at times. Head bearing was bad due to over torque at factory. Still had factory bars so it wasnt me. I sold it at a loss. I didnt trust it to get more than 50 miles from home. Defeating the whole purpose of having a new bike. 1936 miles on it.
I've been riding for about 13 years now. I've had 4 motorcycles. None of them have been HD. Part of it is just that I tend to be contrarian, but mostly, it's been the cost that has kept me from pulling the trigger. It's hard for me to justify paying 30k for a HD when I could get a comparable metric for half that or less.
The new bikes handle and operates so much better than the Rushmore bikes and it just makes sense in my mind to be able to add the accessories to make it what you want I mean they already have the long haul package which has the sundowner seat and a bunch of quality of life stuff to do the long tours and with the King tour pack added on you have the option to remove it when you don't need it and those accessories come in right at the same price as a limited

I love the bikes and would like to get a touring model but the stick holding the carrot gets longer and longer going from just out of reach to forget about it. Hopefully the find a happy medium between price and value. I would have loved it if only they kept the Standard models of the SG RG and RK, shaving off some of the "gingerbread" would have helped to get more people in the door on the touring frame and they could have stood to have helped dealer service departments to make some money from the people who bought the Standard who wanted to add stuff like tour packs and radios and what not. My wife is still a little timid about riding with me, but wants to take a chance on it and I'd like a bigger bike, so a SG or a RK stripped down would have been a good start for us, but is all but off the table in the form of a new bike at this point.

The way the economy is currently, looking at KTM going bankrupt and in Europe where motorbike business is essentially collapsing the majority of people just don't have the funds to spend $30k+ on what's essentially an adult toy. The biggest sales market right now are smaller displacement, cheaper, more basic bikes. HD should take note.
They never will go to small displacement bikes. So many people keep saying this. It may work in some Asian markets but those are already locked down by other manufacturers. Harley is working on becoming a low volume boutique brand.
People will go to Indian Harley would like customers to pay for the additional accessories to build the bike they want instead of offering it at a fair price. Harley looking for the consumer to bail them out example lower prices for 2024 to kill the value of anyone with 17-23 bike. I have a 20 and 22 bikes with upgrades crazy amount of money I lost on both. Plan to ride them over the next few years I do all of my own service work.
I think Harley should bring in the X350 & X500, (Made in China) and the X440 (Made in India). It's not like Harley has not sold entry level bikes made in overseas before (the Hummers were made in Germany and then there was a whole line of Italian bikes in the 70's). I would then revamp the street series with a 500 and a larger framed 750. These should be American made so you have the foreign entry and a home grown one as well.
Answer me this. If H-D can bring a technical marvel of the PanAm to market and is a full size bike with all luggage for a competitive price even when made in USA, Why is the standard touring bike MUCH more expensive? A radio isn't that expensive to add and all of the R&D and tooling has been done for years..
I ride with a LEMC group and just like riding my bike. I’m getting so tired of MCs flipping me off on the highway and trying to start fights in bars. I mind myself and stink Diet Coke will defend myself if necessary.
Even if they preparing for tarrifs and even if they dont materialize the consumer will still pay more. At the end of the day riding is a way of life that should remain true for riders of all ages and all income levels. While not perfect they had that with buell. At the end of the day if they keep raising prices year over year new bikes will be strictly for the upper crust. It is what it is though guess you gotta pay to play or buy a metric.
One way for HD to surely go broke ~ try to make bikes of all sizes and compete with the Japanese! HD's are a niche market ~ like Ducati's. And both do very well thank you.
Why anyone wants a HD anymore is perplexing. My 2016 is in excellent condition, has everything upgraded. The only thing I'm missing from the new bikes is the RDS system and I don't trust that. I want to be in control of my bike, not my bike trying to over ride me. Harley is trying to make it so you don't have to understand motorcycle riding. Their trying to make it so anybody can just hop on and the bike will correct there mistakes. I decided to have my CVO professionally turned into a trike with features Harley doesn't even offer (independent suspension with sway bar, 10 inches longer for a much better ride (for my wife's back), a second 3 gallon gas tank and a much smoother body with a larger trunk. The BONUS... it was $25,000 less than a new trike!! People say it looks like it came from the factory. Sorry Harley, I'll keep what I've got. There's nothing for me to gain except a monthly payment.

I really enjoy riding my 24 CVO Road Glide ST. Our winter is generally mild and I have heated gear. I get to ride quite a bit.

HD's are a niche market ~ like Ducati's. And both do very well thank you.
Why are people mad at Harley? I keep asking and all I get is "they've gone woke" which tells me absolutely nothing.
Why anyone wants a HD anymore is perplexing. Costs as much as a new car, twice the weight of most other bikes, and you have to pay to have it come in a color that every other manufacturer has as their base model? If I could afford that, along with the maintenance, insurance, and headaches, I'd be getting something sexy and Italian -- just like my wife.
Got a lady friend that’s works at Grand Rapids Harley, I stopped in to buy parts, check out the new road glides, $53000.00 so I asked her do these things sell at that price she told me that they can’t get them off the truck fast enough so make up your own mind
propaganda. see it.
I get it .
Make it fit you.
It's to bad... I was going to trade in my 2016 CVO Road Glide Ultra with 76,000 miles on it for a trike. We'll after all the shit, RDS problems and Infotament issues, I decided against it.
Sounds nice ! U should put some pics or a vid on ur YT page so we can admire !
how about a reverse gear ffs?
Honda and BMW has reverse gear for years. Standard.
@@kevindecker9444 I know thats why HD should have it too, for crying out loud
