Adam Bebb That’s because modern rain teams hardly abuse Swift Swim anymore unless it’s Swampert. It’s just there to give already powerful Pokémon (Torn, Koko, Gren) more power (100% Hurricanes and Thunders, beefed-up Hydros, etc.). A rain team could still very much function outside of rain. The rain just pushes the power level over the top

Did you ever hear the tragedy of Darth Politoed The Wise? I thought not. It’s not a story the Sandstorms would tell you. It’s a Rain legend. Darth Politoed was a Drizzler of the Rain, so powerful and so wise he could use the rain to influence Kingdra, Qwilfish and other beasts to swim much faster… He had such a knowledge of the rain that he rose to the top of the OU tier. The dream world is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural. He became so viable that the only thing he was afraid of was losing his position, which eventually, of course, he did. Unfortunately, he taught his apprentice everything he knew, then his apprentice outclassed him in OU. Ironic. He could support so many teammates, but not himself.

Back when he got Drizzle, there was a meme list called "OU, The Meta" where Pelipper was listed as "Mega Politoed" and I laughed my ass off at that.

Gen 9: Flygon has 200 in each stat
The most realistic buff for Flygon is giving it a new Hidden Ability such as a Sandstorm ability or Tinted Lens. Flygon's viability was directly tied to its levitate ability to soar over Spikes, which are obsolete in all metagames Flygon is in right now, and Flygon doesn't have a set Hidden Ability yet.
A buff to speed to allow Flygon to run Adamant nature would be practical too.

The only real buff that Flygon REALLY needs is to have almost Garchomp stats. As in:
Flygon has 105 Attack, same defenses, 100 Special Attack for versatility for Fire Blast, Draco Meteor, etc., is faster 105 speed, and could have Tinted Lens or Sand Stream has a hidden ability. That’s what I’d do, anyway. Flygon is still mediocre, especially since Garchomp returned.
It would essentially be a slightly faster and more special attacking version of Garchomp, though still weaker.
Gen 3-6: I call it « belongs in he trash »
Gen7: more like bold and brash!
And Tauros is basically the exact opposite.

Well, the idea is for competitive balance. It is a lot easier to balance a smaller pool, especially if certain metagame shaping disasters aren't around

That's the power of Rain teams: they can actually be diverse in their type weaknesses despite being almost mono-Water.

I love how when Abilities were introduced in Gen 3, the Rain and Sun triggers were limited to the Box Legendaries of that Gen, and now those abilities are given to 2 regular Pokémon from the same Gen. Not even being a Hidden Ability or Mega Ability. lmao

Pelipper is a bit of an underdog story. The poor guy was trapped in PU, unable to rise above legitimate Pokemon like Gyarados or Mantine while getting steamrolled by everyone else. But in Gen 7, when all hope seemed lost, he finally got Drizzle, which made him a staple in rain teams. He rose from the bottom of the bottom to the top of the OU metagame. How on Earth does that even happen? I can only hope other PU, NU and RU Pokemon are delivered from the wrung and join Pelipper in OU paradise.

Talk about a comeback, Pelipper is a perfect example of just one thing added to a Pokemon's tool kit to totally turn it around.
When I found out hurricane is 100% accurate in the rain I realized this derpy looking bird took away Mega-Pidgeot's gimmick without even needing to waste a mega slot on it.
In addition of outclassing Politoed in EVERY way.

@@Eltipoquevisteayer Problem is, unlike Ninetales, Torkoal brings real utility to the team :
It can be a true wall, it can set the rocks, spin, spread status (example burn either directly with will o wisp or through lava plume, it can use Yawn to gain either a switch advantage or put a Pokémon to sleep) and it can be pretty threatening offensively (on both sides might I add) with a pretty decent stats in both offense and very good offensive options (Eruption, Lava Plume, Fire Blast, Earthquake, Gyro Ball, Explosion) and it has also some more niche moves to use like clear smog just in case you need it and want to surprise your opponent.
So it's definitely better than Ninetales in every way and it ensure that Ninetales will never have a spot in the *sun* ever again. Torkoal's main downside is that sun isn't a very viable weather right now but if we were to gain good sun abusers in gen 8 it could very well become the new pelipper and maybe even be better than it at its role
In Scarlet and Violet, he is currently the ONLY mon that can automatically set rain . Even more busted than before.
Pelipper is pretty much the Pokemon that exists so they could draw birds in the Pokemon movies

@@rmnhn It's higher stats got -10 in both. So Aegislash still has 50 attack stats in Shield and 50 in Defense stats in Sword, but it's offenses and defenses are reduced by 10 in each other stat

Omg, after 10 months I finally get to see my boy pelipper!! Wingull was my first wild pokemon I caught. I kept it on my team until I got Rayquaza to fly me around in Pokemon Sapphire.
Even after I got rayquaza in oras, I still kept him because he was just too attached to the team.

One of my favorite mons of all time, especially after it got drizzle. It went from zero to hero in one adjustment. I also just love its design. I'm in the Navy, and I love the seabirds.
I never really liked Pelipper because of it's annoying pre-evolution. Wingull is basically the Zubat of the sea. Can't surf for more than 3 second without running into one which is reason for my misplaced anger towards Pelipper.
Wingull is the Zubat of the sea alongside Tentacool.
Tentacool is the Zubat of the seas. Tentacools infested the seas similar to how Zubat infested every cave from gens 1-4. Wingull was only common in gen 3.

@@sperrythegodyounger7250 Depends on the region. In Unova is Basculin (I'm starting to hate that fish), in Kanto, Jotho and Sinnoh was Tentacool, in Hoenn was Wingull, in Alola is Tentacool and Finneon, and in Kalos and Galar there's almost no water routes outside some lakes.
I loved this silly mon from its release and I'm so happy it actually became so good, same with porygon z getting z conversion, and now slaking getting doubles support in galarian weezing, I'm so happy pokemon is finding ways to make old and outclassed mons usefull in unique ways
I know its been 8 months,and you may know about this already,but runerigus's wandering spirit ability is probably more useful for slaking than galarian weezing

Shootout to that shiny Wingull that I randomly found during my Sun playthrough back in 2016 way before I completed the Regional Dex and obtained the Shiny Charm.
And when I evolved it, I was glad he had Drizzle as an ability.

Unquestionably the most buffed Pokémon in the transition to Generation 7. While another bird, Talonflame, is easily the most nerfed.

@@fixjustin2699 There's a difference between a pokemon that becomes better with a good ability like greninja, scizor, garchomp, pelipper etc etc and just having a broken ability that solely makes the pokemon good like gen 6 talonflame, mega mawile, dugtrio, mimikyu etc etc while most legendaries are literally banned because they are suppose to be too powerful or because they are event only pokemon with there only being 38 (+battle bond greninja) who are banned from VGC out of 807 pokemon.

The reason Pelipper became good in Gen 7 was because it gained 10 points in Special Attack along with Drizzle. Without that 10 point boost it would still be useless
It would be nearly as good as it is, since it could still defog, u turn and most importantly be 50x better than poltoed

@@rizqp9398 That extra 10 points makes it a decent special attacker in its own right. Without it it'd just be a rain setter which while still decent it wouldn't be enough to let Pelipper in OU
Adam Smith Pelipper isn’t used as a special attacker most of the time. It really doesn’t matter as much as you think it does

Yeah.... pelipper just shows how weather abilities can make boost the viability of a mon. Alolan Ninetails wouldn´t be half as good without the snow warning + aurora vail + access to Blizzard. I´d love to see more things getting access to those abilities as well as their respective abusers. I mean Rain is the only dominant weather in OU (bc Pelipper, Mega Swamp, Ferro, Torn, Koko, Kingdra, Manaphy etc can use it very well). Sun usually relies on Torkoal and Zard Y (but honestly noone really uses Zard Y right now all that much) and in some lower tiers on Ninetales. Sun abusers in OU would be Blaceph, Heatran, Victini, Volc (those all from the fire boost / water weakness). The only mons that really benefit from sun are from lower tiers and have either clorophyll or solar power like Venusaur and Mega Houndoom. And the power levels of those are far too low the be strong outside of their respective weather. 100 base sptack isn´t that impressive without life orb and one growth. And sun is probably the 2nd most viable weather in ou. Going to sand: T-Tar + Excadrill. Nothing else worth mentioning in OU. Hail? Alolan Ninetales Vail. Weather besides rain limited to the lower tiers and thanks to primals completly locked out of ubers.
Peliper is the proof that a pokémon can be OU with a small buff.
