Why so much hate for Alien: Romulus in these comments (It sounds to me like no matter what they put on screen for an Alien film, people are just going to complain - If they add familiar things, then it's "oh too much fan service," if they try to be original, then its "oh, they're getting too far away from what people love about the franchise" - With some people you simply can't win).
I didn't care for most of the characters, but I can get past that, What bothered me most was the beat down of fan service. I was so frustrated by the end of this movie. From the uncanny valley CGI bringing back a dead actor, the many out of character lines that were simply pulled from previous films, to recycling the climax of Resurrection with the New Born (which I have hated for 26 years)...The constant recycling all pulled me out of this story. I was just depressed by the end of this, with the thought that all we have left is to recycle even the bad ideas.
I will never understand the blind praise im hearing for Romulus. Everyone is praising Romulus for exact same issues that they constantly trash Prometheus and Covenant. The characters are flat and forgettable. The writing for them is nonexistent most of the time. The acting is completely dispassionate... or talentless, however you want to look at it. I remember Ripley obviously, Newt, Hicks, Dallas, Hudson, Parker, Ash and Bishop. I can even remember 85, Clemens and Morris and i freaking LOATHE Alien 3. I can remember Call, Johner, David, Shaw, Daniels, Vickers and Tennessee. I cant remember ANY of the awful characters in Romulus. The fan service is completely inappropriate for a serious Alien film. Not even Resurrection stooped so low as to directly quote better, better movies in the franchise. As a fan, the "Get away from her you b****" line was completely insulting. How or why would they try to cheapen Ripleys glorious moment in Aliens?? This is how i rank the franchise: Aliens Alien Prometheus Alien Covenant Alien Resurrection AVP Alien Romulus Alien 3 AVP: Requiem
All the people that I talk to that hate Romulus are also people that praise Prometheus and covenant and I don't know what thats about. Anyway I enjoyed it despite its shortcomings enough to see it twice.

I know right. I must have cringed at least a dozen times when they used callbacks. It cheapens the movies.

@@LordMagiru Everything after Aliens sucks imho, either through production nightmares or poor writing and casting.
But it's just a re-iteration of the first movie
It’s absolutely awful. Dogsh*t movie. It’s like Plan 9 from outer space. Will never watch another Alien movie.
