    What exactly is that tool that you're using at 1:59? Does it come with the mount? The connectors on my Alpha and Bravo are round and smooth and don't look like any hex bit would fit them. Thanks.

    • @StudentPilot4Life
      @StudentPilot4Life  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @FallacyAsPraxis - I am using a hex key allen wrench that I had from an earlier IKEA assembly. If memory serves right, it did not come with the mount but it’s a very standard piece and should be easy to get.

    Thanks for your answer. I really like the idea of a G1000. I assume you really like it? I am hesitant if I should go the two touchscreens+air manager+knobster, the Flightsimbuilder G1000 or even the RSG G1000. Of course the touchscreens and Air manager route would allow more flexibility flying different aircraft and avionics but on the other hand, this looks darn amazing and realistic.

    • @StudentPilot4Life
      @StudentPilot4Life  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I am training for my instrument rating so the g1000 hardware helps build my muscle memory wrt the placement of controls. If I wasn’t using this for training, I would have gone with the Air Manager+Knobster setup for the flexibility and lower price point.
      The RSG G1000 units are very attractive. Although, a comparable setup with RSG would have cost about $800 more. I assume the RSG controls feel much more ‘premium’ but I haven’t used one yet.

    Why did you put the mounting plates back under the Alpha and Bravo? they don't serve anything when setup under like this do they? thanks. This looks so much more ergonomic than on top of the desk for sure!!

      @StudentPilot4Life  6 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

    • @StudentPilot4Life

      A small hex key Allen wrench. The same one works for both Alpha and Bravo. Something like this would work: a.co/d/aOL4TNQ

      Thanks for stopping by! I use X-Plane 12 for instrument training and MSFS for sightseeing. My X-Plane FPS is moot because I am mostly glued to the instruments. On MSFS, with mostly ultra settings, FPS drops to about ~45 above high density areas like Manhattan. I lower the terrain rendering detail to less than 200 when I see some choppiness.

    would you say the units wobble at all when secured with the clamps under the table? I read Honeycomb adviced against this saying the screws will be too stressed and are not designed to hold the weight. What is your experience after some months of use, still working well? thanks

    • @StudentPilot4Life
      @StudentPilot4Life  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I hadn’t thought about this until I saw your comment. The screws are indeed quite small and I can see why Honeycomb would advise against it. But this setup has held up nicely. No issues so far.

    Great idea! But that’s over $100 each Canadian! A simple metal plate with holes drilled may do the job, and for just a few bucks.

    • @StudentPilot4Life
      @StudentPilot4Life  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @kennykanada These are USD 35 a piece, so about CAD 50 for one. But you have a good point, can drill holes into a scrap metal bar or even resin bar to get the job done.

      @johnnyalbrecht41 - Good suggestion! I fiddled with the Quest-3 and I like where VR/AR in general is going. I returned the Quest 3 because it was finicky on my setup and I didn't quite have the time to fine-tune it. I'll likely get what comes out in a year or two - hopefully it will be more plug and play than the current versions. VR/AR is super-engaging and I am excited about the prospects for flight sim!
