Visit the Falcon Vortac (FQF) | G1000 Radio Navigation | Pilot Training
VOR (Very High Frequency Omnidirectional Range) and TACAN (Tactical Air Navigation System) are used by pilots for ground based navigation. A VORTAC combines the functions of a VOR and TACAN into one single unit. I hopped on my motorcycle and rode to the Falcon Vortac with the identifier FQF. And then I flew to the same vortac in XPlane. In this video I show how to tune in to a VOR frequency to navigate to the navaid.

Why polarized eyewear is not recommended for pilots | G1000 anti-reflective coating | Pilot Training

Glass panel avionics such as G1000 have an anti-reflective coating to help pilots see the instruments clearly even in bring sunlight. This anti-reflective coating does not go well with polarized eyewear which may cause the screen to appear dim or even blank. Thanks for your answer. I really like the idea of a G1000. I assume you really like it? I am hesitant if I should go the two touchscreens+air manager+knobster, the Flightsimbuilder G1000 or even the RSG G1000. Of course the touchscreens and Air manager route would allow more flexibility flying different aircraft and avionics but on the other hand, this looks darn amazing and realistic.

    • @StudentPilot4Life
      @StudentPilot4Life หลายเดือนก่อน

      I am training for my instrument rating so the g1000 hardware helps build my muscle memory wrt the placement of controls. If I wasn’t using this for training, I would have gone with the Air Manager+Knobster setup for the flexibility and lower price point. The RSG G1000 units are very attractive. Although, a comparable setup with RSG would have cost about $800 more. I assume the RSG controls feel much more ‘premium’ but I haven’t used one yet.

    Are you waiting out for the Charle pedals?? I am just getting into simming. Have purchased the MSFS 2020 a few days back when Steam had it on sale. My initial thought was to go somewhat budget friendly controller and had in mind on the Beach Turtle VelocityOn Flightstick since I can use all the controls in one device and not have to buy throttle and rudder. Then, I thought more into this and with the limited storage space I have. I will eventually upgrade to better controllers later. So, instead of having many controllers I will not be using and not have room to store them. I am going to get all Honeycomb. I have purchased the xpc yoke. The Bravo is on its way. For the rudder, I was going to get the Charle, but having second thoughts. My desk floor space will fit barely. The Charle is quite big dimension wise. I am looking at the Thrustmaster TPR now. The size reasonable for my case. It's tall but not really an issue. My question is. How is this rudder compare to the Charle. I know the charle isn't available world wide and one a few have them, but I am not convince if the Charle pedals is better then the TPR. Honestly, I would rather go with all Honeycomb lineup, but the space is holding me back. The TPR isn't aesthetic looking since my desk is also a work space.

      @ducsue751 I am not waiting for the charlie pedals as I bought the Thrustmaster TPR pedals recently. I have linked the videos below. I had the (much) cheaper Logitech pedals to start with but I did not like that one and ended up upgrading. TPR has been around for quite some time and I have only heard good things about it. Hard to say how the Charlie pedals will compare, but if the TPR's cost is not a concern, hard to go wrong with it. I added the damper mod as well, and the combination is fantastic so far! I have a similar setup - my work desk is right next to the sim desk and I use some of the peripherals with both setups. But it's getting cluttered. I am going to separate them and keep both the setups distinct from each other. Want to avoid looking at the flight controls and getting distracted while trying to get some work done :) Here are the video links if that helps: TPR unboxing: th-cam.com/video/jfsAyYISgOE/w-d-xo.html Damper mod: th-cam.com/video/03mtr7YCVuE/w-d-xo.html

    Great idea! But that’s over $100 each Canadian! A simple metal plate with holes drilled may do the job, and for just a few bucks.

    • @StudentPilot4Life
      @StudentPilot4Life 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @kennykanada These are USD 35 a piece, so about CAD 50 for one. But you have a good point, can drill holes into a scrap metal bar or even resin bar to get the job done.

    The starter motor is on all the time. That's why it sounds like it does from the motor. And it will also drain the battery.

      Yes! Took some time to realize that was the case, since the Honeycomb Alpha’s start switch is not spring loaded.

      @ajandrade1 - Ah, thanks for sharing that finding. I fly US only at this time so I only checked with FAA data file within US borders. Also, I am curious if a similar approach exists to update the nav data worldwide, without having to pay a fee to a 3rd party provider.

    Firstly, thank you for making me aware that these under desk mounting plates were commercially available. Secondly, can you tell me in your opinion, what is the required measurement for mounting both the Alpha and Bravo side by side (how much room do I need) ? Like you, I have limited space to work with on top and underneath the desktop ! I look forward to hearing from you at your earliest convenience, duffman581

    Good luck with the instrument rating. With regards to the Bravo Throttle, might I suggest an addon called Better Bravo Lights to ensure the throttle lights work properly. The official plugin to fix that is somewhat intermittent. My rudder pedal choice was Thrustmaster TPR. A bit pricey but definitely worth it.

    • @StudentPilot4Life
      @StudentPilot4Life 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @dazecm Thank you! I haven’t meddled with the Bravo lights yet. Will check the addon - appreciate the pointer. And….. I smiled when I saw your comment about TPR. I plugged in my TPR pedals today! It’s a very well made unit. I took some videos as I was setting it up, will feature it in one of the future uploads. Thank you for stopping by!
