I think this video should properly be aimed at people who have deleted their character and decided to start again for whatever reason.
For new players this is just showing how to skip the fun and exciting beginning part of the game and move straight into end game, if you're only interested in the pvp or something I guess.
I don't recommend this video to new players.

What "high res sites"? Where did you go in that blue giant system to get to those pirates. I couldn't find them anywhere over there. This game gives such little detail on how to do anything it's irritating. I want to love the game but I keep getting stuck when I try to find more things to do.

Keep your throttle in the *blue*. I doubt every new pilot will take the time to alter their HUD colors in the game files.
I hope you and most of everyone else realizes that the sweet spot is in the same spot regardless of the color. I mean we pilot space craft in Elite so it isn't much of a leap to gauge a pilots intelligence or ignorance based off of your reply.
I am having alot of trouble with the basic flying this could be because I am a goat and my hoofs have alot of difficulty holding the xbox 1 controller this typing is also very hard as well please help a intelligent pet goat with this game!🐐🐐🐐🐐

I also am feeling clueless.I love this game so much I have completely started over like 5 times now. I get to where you pic a job to do like go mine uranium. Ok great, where the hell do I find uranium??? I look on my list of places to go and see a (high) mining site? I go out and explore and find nothing. I put out my hard points and point at stuff to scan…. Nothing… I have watched many videos only to be more frustrated.
He really does, he misses out explaining so many smaller steps during the core mining parts. I've rewatched about 5 times and I still have no clue how seismic charges work, all of mine just bounce off the roid

As a new player, it took me quite a while to actually finish what this tutorial taught me how to do. Found this vid about a month ago, and began following. Very quickly made enough $$$ to buy an anaconda, so I did. Then I discovered the Phantom, fell in love, worked on engineering to get it's jump range up, unlocked about 8 engineers. Then I discovered combat, bought a Chieftain, and did a few wing missions. Eventually, I got down to about $40M in the bank and decided to get back to mining to make some more cheddar. But this time I've been mining in the anaconda, using the python as a fast hauler. Been doing that for the last couple days and am sitting at 97% Elite trader status. Would have been there 2 weeks ago but I've been too distracted having fun with all this cheddar!! Thanks, Hawkes!

the game has an extremely steep learning curve but once you get the hang of it, it’s very rewarding
You will be fine...... once you get your Diploma. But could be worse, you could be taking up Eve, in which case you would need to pass a Degree......
In 2021 Elite Dangerous is for you if:
1) you have no job, no hobby and no life, willing to travel to almost every mission above 10 real-time min;
2) you like to grind, grind and more grind;
3) you can ignore annoying bugs, annoying rules, repetitive and boring gameplay;
4) you are ready to spend more time googling things than actually playing, because this game is THE MOST unintuitive and unnecessarily complicated one I've ever played with no useful tutorial whatsoever;
5) you are ok with no goal in the game;
6) you like meditative games;
7) you like realistic cosmos and starships.
Advice: just go play No Man's Sky instead.

This is a nice succinct guide to cheddar. It would be even sharper if the names of the places were printed on screen as you were saying them.
Also, a note about overlaps: While they don't increase the amount of cores, it DOES increase the type of cores, meaning that in double overlaps most cores will be musgravite.
I noticed this with overlapping platinum hotspots. The shape is as common as normal (like, 1 out of 5), they are just muuuuch more likely to contain platinum. Same with alexandrite and ltd, so I would assume this applies to any mineral/metal.

That mug is symbolic, you'll find it at the end of many long grinds in different forms. There's no reward, just time spent getting there, so get used to it.

If you're new to Elite Dangerous, make sure you watch Hawkes videos, it helped me restart everything and start making space bucks real quick. Don't do those random missions from the space stations without knowing what's it for. Time is money and Elite Dangerous is dangerous... Don't fly out without a buyout.

Bruh, I just started this game, literally can’t even fly the ship properly and Hawkes’ FIRST recommendation for new players is to collect combat bounties from groups of pirates in ship to ship combat? If this is an indicator of the content of his “beginners guides”, that’s gonna be a HARD pass for me.

Day two for me and all I did was bounty hunting till I hit 100m. Off to buy a Python man. Best to learn how to fly in pve and get used to combat when you're in a side winder. It's free if you fuck up

Watched this several times and learned a lot, but the mining just isn't working. I drift around for HOURS and might find one core. Very few light up bright, and when they do, they don't have that black grid but I prospect them anyway thinking I might be second guessing myself, but they end up being duds. I went back to detail scanning planets because I was making more money doing that than wasting hours on end in an asteroid field.
Mining sucks ass, space trucking rules. Also passenger missions at robigo mines
This is a high level summary not a guide. I can't get past the step where I'm supposed to travel somewhere and NPCs would pop up that I could fight.

@Hawks Gaming Though the long-range exploration has been nerfed, you just had a lower yield run on this one. I still made 12.2m from just 20 jumps.
As a returning player this is great. But i can imagine for new players would be confusing cause you're not showing everything or the keybinds for them

I just started playing this year, got the game on the Steam Winter Sale, and I just wanted to say thank you a lot for all your effort making these guides! I found your 2019 starter video and oh boy, it did help me A LOT. I know that video is almost 2 years old but that one taught me all the essentials and what to google to learn more. Now I am already on my 5th trip with the Python and very close to Elite rank thanks to your help. Maybe it took me a little longer than it should but I am enjoying this game a lot. Keep up the great job.

Hell yeah. Another easy way alone in a sidewinder or eagle for very, very FIRST starters is do a easy mission or two after learning the basic scanning and flying, and whip out that DSS (Detailed Surface Scanner.) as soon as you get a better FSD. Set your star map to (I think) to K and M stars only. The cooler ones, like ours in real life. Jump to a system with these stars and DS, FSS. the said planets to see if they are there. Easy start up money in the millions if you're soloing. You'll most likely find high value planets in those "planet habital" stars. Like an Earth-like world would more likely be there so if you do all the scans, that's an easy 3,249,900 credits. "Terraformable" worlds will pay 7 figures, too. Like, a rocky body isn't much, but a terraformable rocky body will be about 1.5 million credits, and a water world like this is about 3.2 million with all the scans. Just turn them in further away than where you found them and rack up to get better stuff to do the "better" stuff like the video quicker. Fire... I was literally thinking of naming one of my Corvettes "Beavis" and have it yellow. lol
Thanks Hawkes, great guide. It got me into a python super quick and helped me learn core mining from the point of being complete space newb. If others are struggling to recognise cores just persevere. Once you find a few you'll get it and you'll be farming space lemons in no time.
To ED Newbs; Don't get discouraged. Once you get past the steep Elite Dangerous learning curve, AND the steep Hawkes Gaming lingo and speed talking curves, then everything makes sense. It all just falls into place and "clicks" suddenly.
Hawkes "drink from the firehose" approach is a good thing though. It forces you to learn quickly and seek answers elsewhere, i.e. the support sites Hawkes links. I am already accustomed to Hawkes lingo and methods from his NMS best start videos, so this made sense to me after viewing once; albeit with several pauses and rewinds. In NMS I can do Hawkes best start in my sleep.
I will add one tip not seen elsewhere. Everyone says "Do the training." But what should be emphasized is "Do the training several times until you are familiar with the controls and feel comfortable." Then just get out there and be someone!
Waaaay to much inside lingo and not enough info on how to get to places for a beginner. Thanks for the effort though. This would be good for a second play through.

The left navigation panel, system, and galaxy maps are your best friend when it comes to getting places
This game makes Eve Online's learning curve look flat. This video for 'beginners' is making a huge assumption about the skills of new players. It would be VERY helpful to have a list of videos in some kind of reasonable order to be able to actually follow this video and understand what to do. Hell FSS scans dont even have key binds unless you set them up yourself. Arbitrary game mechanics like... must be in supercruise to use FSS. Why? what purpose does that actually serve, other than adding additional steps. However thats stuff that needs to be said, not assumed we know how. Setting up out of ship cameras.... thats a whole tutorial in itself! This is a great guide dont get me wrong, but new players need a lot of context first
A better power set up for the python is with a 6A power plant and a 4A life support to boost the integrity back up. The 7A power plant is no good as its over by 0.1 which means you have to switch off a module, which you failed to mention if you go with your set up.
I scan 20 systems but I earned >15M because I scanned every system with 100% completion i.e. I scanned every planet of each system
you earned 13 M by scanning only selected planets of 30 systems so I think it is better to scan the whole system and earn more with minimum efforts
I found one asteroid of Musgravite, everything else I find is Bauxite. Rip me lmao
Yeah I've only spend 6 hours in this game and all of these beginner videos go way to much in detain. I just want to know the basics. Not how to min max right now. I can't even figure out how to navigate half the time

I appreciate this guide and the density of information that it contains. There's a lot of guides I've skipped because they've got no real info aside from repeating tutorials or just memeing.

Very helpful video, ED is hard to get into! Minor issue with the Python build in the description; it's 0.1 over the power output so when you deploy at a site it will offline your cargo hatch. Either upgrade power plant to 6A or get clever with the priorities so it changes state as you deploy/retract. I wasn't paying attention when I dropped into a ring and it took me a while to figure out my hatch was powered off.
I cant get to the Dromi planet, it is always talking about a permit i dont have although im on a brand new, clean save right after tutorial with no levels.
A double musgravite spot wont spawn more rocks but it will increase the chance of a musgravite core

If anyone is lost after arriving at the blue giant and seeing no pirates, make sure you target one of the "high resource" locations around the blue giant then fly there to get started farming.

Did you buy a detailed surface scanner? That's what you're looking for if you're trying to find hot spots on rings. You have to use it while and super Cruise and you have to assign it to a fire position

Question(s). You went after pirates by the blue gas giant in Dromi. Where exactly? I went there and only saw a couple of system authority ships. And, what mode? I've started in solo mode so I don't get my ass handed to me as I figure this out.

Yea I just camp high/haz res sites and combat zones in my python, Atleast the credits stack quick, I do about 10 mil each run before I need to reload and repair hull lol
No npcs are spawning for me, I'm trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong
you cant just drop anywhere in the ring, you have to go to certain zones, I forget what they're called, but I do know that they should appear on your screen as you approach the planet
What you want to do is select under Dromi 2, Dromi 2 A, Resource Extraction High and hang around until cops shoot pirates
Also, if you're having trouble find the hazardous resource site go scan the systems nav beacon. That'll tell you where they are

New player here, if you prefer controls like that of space engineers, go into control settings and set mouse X axis to yaw, flight rotation for roll to Q and E, and lastly flight thrust for left and right thrust to A and D. Hope it helps. :)
Welp, I followed your guide for a mining ship but I lost supercruise assist and apparently auto-launch/land and since I don't know how to land I got blasted by the station.

06:00 if you have become WANTED then open up nav panel (just press key 1 in the top row of keyboard) and find a system that is represented in green colour, this means it's a low security system and you can pay your fine there and get right back to the action. ty Cmdr Hawks Gaming and please keep uploading.

Yes, I do that all the time.
I spent 80h to acquire that first cool Imperial ship and gave up because I felt absolutely ripped off since it was a downgrade from my AspX.
