I grew up in the “Polish ghetto “ off Milwaukee Ave. in Chicago. Everyone spoke Polish😃 I never had this soup or if I did, I don’t remember. Can’t wait to make it myself.
It’s the best soup ! One of my favorite ones ! All polish soups is great ! Remember to do as she says always have and use basil Leaves and all spice Put as she recommended to do With out this step it will not taste good . Smacznego
Pickle soup will always remind me of my mother. She passed away a year ago, but, I had the honor of making this for her, and she said it was better than hers! It wasn't, in my opinion. 😊 I miss my mother terribly, but, cooking Polish food, that she taught me to cook, she's always with me! ❤
I made this for dinner one time, and when my American friend came over, I offered her some. She made this face (lol), it's hard to explain, I guess you just had to be there. She tried it and before you knew it, the whole bowl was gone and she was asking for seconds. Few days later she called me asking to make a pot for her and her family. It's like you said, they think it's not good until they try it themselves. Love it, and love watching you cook all the dishes from my childhood.
This is my favorite polish soup. My mother in law always said “smacznego” before we start the meal. She last month passed away from COVID, I made this soup for my husband a few times. a quiet way to remember her.
Hiya, I 1st had this in a restaurant with my boyfriend on Milwaukee ave in Chicago. Kaziu, didn’t know I was “pregnant”, (nor did I at the time)! I had 4 bowls and 8 pcs of chleb. Our daughter “Dzdislawa” (Zdzisia) is a Beautiful Woman. Happy New Year & I’m a new subscriber.
Not one to comment on videos - I just recently found your channel - but I love how down to earth and honest your recipes and especially you are are. I absolutely love pickles I cannot wait to try this! Thank you so much!
First you changed my idea of chicken soup then I made your pickles which lead to pickle soup....my mind was blown. The kids and friends have been asking me to make more. Thank you!!!
My husband and I have been binge watching your TH-cam channel.... he grew up in Poland I grew up in Iowa.... we love the video where your husband makes beef stew!!! Made us laugh out loud several times!!!
Most of my culinary experience has been with Italian, French, Mexican, Japanese & Korean.... Filipino... so this has been an enjoyable change for me. I'm so going to make this!!!!! Great Channel!!!
You Convinced Me ! Never even heard of Pickle soup but I made it & it was Delicious ! I put a big onion in mine instead of a turnip . Thank You for teaching how to make this very special soup !
My husband Mark is grinning from ear to ear after hearing this. He is a huge fan of pickle soup and loves to hear stories of the newly indoctrinated! Thanks for watching!
I finally made this today and it blew my expectations away!! Very delicious! I will definitely be making it again and trying it with other veggies I have fermented ❤
My mother in law makes this (and I LOVE it) but I never watched her prepare it. (it's the best way to learn!) I tried once, on my own, but ... it wasn't the same. Thank You! I finally saw, step-by-step, what to do. I'm looking forward to surprising my husband with authentic Polish Pickle Soup. You are very sweet, have you ever thought of doing your own show? ... it was a pleasure watching you cook! Have a good day!
Loved the video! My grandson loves pickle soup so I am happy to finally have the recipie. I could almost smell it. Keep up the good work. Looking forward to more videos soon. Dzienkuje
Looks really good, cannot wait to make it. I can get those pickles at Walmart in Dartmouth NS. Love your episode on how to pickle..two kinds…come fall when we have fresh pickles from the market I will give it s go. I do grow horseradish in my garden so no problem. Love to know how people in Poland preserve fresh whole tomatoes from their garden in large jars. Thanks for teaching us all about Poland and look forward to Fridays ..kitchen closed..so nice for the two of you to take us along.
I do not remember this soup when I was growing up but I made it today. Also made a loaf of pumpernickel onion bread. It was delicious. I made the soup in the morning and had it for dinner. I definitely will make it again! Dziekuje!
I live in Pennsylvania, a couple hours north of Philly. I’m watching your sauerkraut soup. I never buy canned sauerkraut. In the refrigerated section, they sell fresh sauerkraut in plastic vacuumed packed bags. You definitely need to rinse it. Lots of salt as it should be. I watch you all the time. God Bless, Gabrielle

I love pickle soup, Anna! I'm going to make some today, using your recipe. There used to be a small cafe in the basement of the Polish library at St. Stanislaus church here in Portland, Oregon, that served Polish food, and that's where I ate pickle soup for the first time. I fell in love with it, but then the cafe closed. So now I have to make it myself. That's not a problem, since I love to cook, so I'm looking forward to trying it today. Thanks for sharing your recipes! Jon Gornick
@@PolishYourKitchen The soup turned out great! Bardzo smaczna! I probably have too much chicken and potatoes in it, but then again, I'm comparing it to what I ate at the cafe where I first tried it. And being a person who cooks a lot, it's all personal preference, anyway. Next time I'll probably use smaller (or fewer) potatoes, and maybe cut down on the chicken and use more pickles. The jar of pickles I bought at the European foods store (pickles in brine) was a little small. Like you, I prefer the soup good and sour. Thanks again!
I love your channel because of recipes like this-my grandmother made this soup but, of course, nobody wrote down the recipe 🤔!! This sounds just like what she made, so I'm going to need to make a trip to the store to get the ingredients☺☺☺. I really love your sense of humour and it brings me back to my childhood. Of course I am a non- measurer, that is the way I learned to cook so having these recipes will make it easier to pass along to my children and grandchildren. Thank you very much for all of your videos.
We have another winner...no homemade pickles left from the summer so I used Claussen ( my “go to” when I’m out ) and YUM...a perfect soup for this yucky winter weather...you rock😀
In America, Bubbies Pickles are brined as are Topor’s. I use those not the Clausen brand. Do you ever add sour cream? Sometimes when I make it, we add a dollop of sour cream when serving. It looks delicious!
You bring back memories, Anna! My Cioci Leona used to suck on the neck bones too. :-) I've always wanted to try this soup. My mom didn't make it. I think I will! By the way, I love your soup bowl. Boleslewiec? It looks it to me. I'm replacing all of my old dinnerware with Boleslewiec because they are true works of art that we can admire and use every single day :-) Thanks for the videos. I love them.
Just made this for the first time, following a Polish-American's recipe, and I ended up blending half of it and thickening with sour cream + flour mixed with some of the broth. Most of the videos I've seen by European Poles make it brothy like you did, so I think this might be more of an American mash-up with French leek soup, tho, but it was delicious!
Your videos are so great. I could almost smell the dill and pickles as I was watching. I love pickles and I ferment many things including pickles pickles and make my own sauerkraut, but I’m old. 😂
The other reason Poles don't take the vegies out of the soup is bcoz cooking them whole adds flavour to the broth and when you cut them up to put back into the soup, they retain their flavour and taste so different compared to if you diced them and cooked them first. This is what I have learnt anyway.
One of my favorite soups. Actually I’m about to make this soup today ;) I usually use beef cubes but today will try making it with chicken wings. Like your cooking show. Smacznego!
I am so glad I came across your channel. I live in Burbank, IL just down the street from Midway Airport in Chicago and my Polish neighbor gave me a jar of these exact pickles. I thought they were a bit too much garlicy for me but now that I saw your recipe I will be trying to make this (with adjustments as I only have to make for 1). It looks delicious but to be honest my eyes popped wide open when I saw all the additional pickle juice you added to the soup. LOL.
I made this soup this week. Last time I had it was over 20 years ago when my mom made it. Brought back good memories. Do you boil the chicken bones again for a bone broth?
I would love to make this soup, I'm a huge fan of pickles but I don't think my husband would even try it. He doesn't share the sam enthusiasm for pickles . 😅
I love pickle soup. I buy it often at the Polish Deli. You have inspired me to try making my own. What do you think of the idea of dropping in some pierogi during the last five minutes of cooking? Do pickle soup and pierogi go together?
I love dill pickle soup thank you for all your videos. I recently ordered allspice berries in the states. The berries look a lot smaller than the ones you’re using in Poland. Is there a difference in allspice berries? I also have a question about Polish teas my stepmom is from Poland and tends to drink a lot of tea‘s with fruit.
