I was always really loved this style of editing from you with the mashups of gameplay to coincide with the music. Always made me think of your videos whenever I heard those songs while later playing the games
Adventures in Magic Kingdom was one of my favorites when I was I kid. Variety in game play, sweet music, and challenging. It's a true classic in my book!
Hah. I heard some music from the Darkwing Duck game, went "Hey, wait a minute..." Immediately checked the composer on Wikipedia and sure enough: Yasuaki Fujita, the same person who did Megaman 3's awesome soundtrack.
I miss watching these old videos. Things were so much simpler back then. I rented the magical Kingdom alot back in the day, and I had no problems finding that candle in the pirates level - I had no idea it was a problem to find. It's funny after rewatching all these how there's been re-released editions and remakes of many of these classics. They sure did a good job on the ducktales remake.
Hooray, you're back! This review is especially meaningful for me, as I've been on a bit of a Disney/Capcom fix, and I just finished LPing Rescue Rangers. Thank you!
A friend had Adventures in the Magic Kingdom. I *loved* the Space Mountain stage (I was a space-obsessed little brat). Playing that game was ~mesmerizing~! I would sit right in front of the screen, fingers working on autopilot, unblinking, head bobbing and weaving, and feel so immersed in the experience I could actually feel the swooping sensation of the turns.
FINALLY!!!! a new HVGN. ive missed these. your vids and Benzaie's "Games That You Might Dont Know" are some of my fav vids on the net, because they show the best games that we forgot, or never knew. thank you, and keep up the great work
these videos are informative and helpful I can't quite get my head around being this big a fan of Splatterhouse, but this guy seems to know what he is talking about and care about it, and that is very good
looking at that table with the consoles along with the n64 controllers in the background of that shot I want to ask, are there any forgotten gem n64 games that might be reviewed in the future.
New HVGN! Sweet! "Adventures in the Magic Kingdom" haunted my childhood, that damned Space Mountain level! Still had some good times playing it though, great review!
Hell yea!!! We have waited for this new review and leme say it was worth the wait!! Every so often i would check out your website to see if the new episode had been put up but found it never was :(... until today!! 5 star review!
The Little Mermaid is my older sister's favourite game. I loved watching her play that game when I was younger. I actually bought it for her with Rescue Rangers a year ago for Christmas.
Think you hit the nail on the head with Darkwing Duck - really like that game but I've never been able to beat it pretty much for the reasons you described.
I loved The Little Mermaid game back in the day. It was dam good! I forget how Capcom released so many Disney games and how most of them were very good!
You're back! sweet mother of god! finally! Thanks for reviewing these. After adventures in the magic kingdom I greww apprehensive of all the non DT/CaD games. on the nes at least.
I always loved that Magic Kingdom game as a kid. I honestly couldn't figure out Space Mountain until I was 9 or 10, and I was never crazy about Thunder Mountain, but I loved the rest of the game, especially the Pirates of the Caribbean one. This thing needs to be on the Wii Virtual Console so bad.
Yaaay, it's a video! Good reviews all around, about games I'm not sure I knew existed. As usual! Looking forward to part 2. Also, yes, Darkwing Duck is awesome. I downloaded the soundtrack.
It's funny because mega man and darkwing duck are viewed as difficult games today. When they originally released, they were part of the handful of games I beat on the nes during its entire run. Even though I didn't realize it at the time, a lot of nes games were broken rendering them impossible to beat. The capcom and konami games were the only ones I ever beat aside from punchout. I probably beat more games but can't remember, but the Nintendo published games I rarely finished.
I have a question, why is it that you can post a review with background music while when I do it it gets pulled down of youtube because of legal issues ?
as alway nothing short of greatness when comes to your videos i wish you do more of them but i know they take time and i would hope that most of us have a life outside youtube lol yes i totally agree with you on the relationship that disney and capcom and the impact it has brought to the game world you cant loose with the killer combination a big 5 stars for you bro on my way to pt 2 !!!!!!
Nice incredibles reference joke there. I have Darkwring Duck there but haven't played it yet. Got it along with 40 odd other NES games and a NES as part of one big bundle a few months back. Beauty and the Beast is actually my 3rd favourite Disney film behind The Lion King and Aladdin.
Greatest third-party developer in my humble opinion as well. Hell yeah! If I may be so bold as to suggest for a future review one game series you didn't mention at the beginning there; Breath of Fire, an excellent RPG series developed by Capcom that got sorely overshadowed by Final Fantasy.
Surprised that you didnt include the Beauty and The Beast-game in this since you liked the movie. Im hoping that it will make an apperance in part 2! Great vid
Adventures in the Magical Kingdom. My first nes game, and I loved the freakin thing. Played Haunted Mansion until the ghosts started to say "Aw shit, hide, the kid's come back with his damn candle".
Just picked up Talespin for GB and yeah, it's a bit rough at first, but not bad once you get used to it. It's charming even if I didn't watch the original cartoons. Though it's not worth the average price in 2022 ($40), glad I got it for much less.
The hardest thing about Tale Spin is to gettin use to the gameplay. Once you master flipping the plane the game is fairly easy. I remember getting frustated and giving up in the first two levels. But then something clicks on your brain and youll be breezing through levels with very little challenge. Im not saying its worth the trouble learning the game but its not too bad once you do. I dont hate it or love it.
Yeh Capcom is a legendary franchise. They did an excellent job with Duck Tales. I played a little of Chip N' Dale & Darkwing Duck, and look forward to playing them some more. Great review.
I think we're in almost perfect agreement on these games so far, and that's not something I often find. I do enjoy Mickey Mousecapade, though, at least partially because it has that early NES Husdon charm, like in Doraemon.
Of course I am not Mr. Alexander but I would say that this whole Disney/Capcom series including the previous videos about Duck Tales and Chip n Dale are more of a retrospective on games he grew up with that happen to be licensed, rather than just spotlighting overlooked games. I don't like to really use the word because it has a negative connotation, but I think this was more him indulging in a little blast to the past, a review more for himself than the usual ones.
Mousecapade has hudson's style of graphics and appearances. Look at milon's secret castle for a point of reference. I could tell the first time I saw the gameplay of Mousecapade that it was made by hudson only because I had played milon's secret castle.
7:50 Game maker here... How they could have fixed that problem is, give the player 3 shots... 1 at each of the 45 degrees. This would mean that, changing angles wouldn't prevent you from hitting the "y" matched enemy. :)
I'm thinking of starting my own retro game review channel. I already have Nintendo Power posters on my wall, a collection of NES games, and now I just need to practice cursing in every sentence and I'll be all set.
FINALLY someone gave Adventures in Magic Kingdom the respect it deserves!! I feel the same as you HVGN - I got that game for my bday when I was a kid, and loved it, and still play it. I think too many people like to complain and get angry about games b/c they think they're being funny and want views (like Irate Gamer & Aladdin). But it just annoys me when they do it to a good game. You're right - they never mention the candles or star purchase ability. And no one gives MM4 any respect either!
"Capcom 'IS' the greatest third party..." If you change this "IS" for a "WAS" then this statement would have been arguably right... (Though I personally like Konami, Enix and Square a bit more...)
lophatjello Actually... I agree... Capcom games used to be pretty darn good... That's why I said "was"... But nowdays the only capcom series that I find myself playing a lot is Ace Attorney...
Ruko Michiharu people put too much emphasis on right now. i would still put capcom in the top 5 even though it isn't that great anymore. The style of logic you and a lot of people use is like how many people consider the beatles one of the greatest bands of all time and yet if they just decided to come out with a new album this year and it was bad it would completely negate their greatness and all the sudden they become average. That way of thinking just doesn't make sense to me. or another example: lets say company a makes 10 great games and then nothing ever again and people consider them to be the greatest company of all time. Meanwhile company b created 30 great games and then 2 bad ones at the end. Company b created way more great games but you and many others would say they aren't as good because of the few bad ones.
Mickey Mousecapade was a really fun game in my opinion. It was the first game I owned (grandparents bought me NES, cousins gave me Mickey Mousecapade) so I admit to having some bias. I am going to start collecting the Disney Capcom games and probably more Disney games in general.
Does anyone else want a HVGN and AVGN body swap episode? They meet up and have an argument about games, a curse falls on them and they have trudge through the worst of the worst and the best of the best to switch back to normal? Could be fun
As much as I love guys like AVGN and NC it's great to see a guy talk positively about stuff.
Hah. I heard some music from the Darkwing Duck game, went "Hey, wait a minute..." Immediately checked the composer on Wikipedia and sure enough: Yasuaki Fujita, the same person who did Megaman 3's awesome soundtrack.
Darkwing duck is by far my favorite game to come out of the Capcom-Disney era.

This video is overv10 yrs old?!
AVGN uses Rolling Rock beer.
Wine is a nice calm drink.
That's the play on the characters.
"any game or cartoon with Launchpad is worth your time." Including the Ducktales reboot. ;)
these videos are informative and helpful
I can't quite get my head around being this big a fan of Splatterhouse, but this guy seems to know what he is talking about and care about it, and that is very good
HVGN is really nice, he even states AVGN is his inspiration, really good!
It's funny how Derek mentions a hypothetical fight between Darkwing and Rick, seeing as how Jim Cummings did the voice of both DW and The Terror Mask.
wellcome back mate we missed you, your reviews kick ass don't stop just keep em coming :)
I love love Darkwing Duck. It's really not that hard. I like it better than Ducktales
Glad to have you back!
I prefer to call this partnership DisCom or CapNey.
looking at that table with the consoles along with the n64 controllers in the background of that shot I want to ask, are there any forgotten gem n64 games that might be reviewed in the future.

5 star review!
Just wanted to post a comment to say that I'm glad you appear to be back!
Many thanks Happy Nerd. Always liked your videos. Keep em coming!
3:13-3:20 To asnwer your question, we would need to ask that to Ben Singer and Chad James! ;)
I kinda liked adventures in the magick kingdom, nice to se you're back. Can't wait for part 2 ^^
2:48 Is it me or does that eerily resemble Gargoyle's Quest 2?
The Little Mermaid is my older sister's favourite game. I loved watching her play that game when I was younger. I actually bought it for her with Rescue Rangers a year ago for Christmas.
sorry hellspam9000, i agree.
All the Disney games I played as a kid were by Sega. Great games too, especially Quackshot.
Nice to see a new video.
+stopskeletonsfromfighting Have you ever considered reviewing the Turbographix version of Darkwing Duck?
8:10 or so. He says, What were they thinking! "They weren't". They werent was the best fucking line in this video! The delivery was beautiful!
Great job man. Glad to see you back with a new video.
Awesome work! Great to see you back!!
Think you hit the nail on the head with Darkwing Duck - really like that game but I've never been able to beat it pretty much for the reasons you described.
I loved The Little Mermaid game back in the day. It was dam good!
I forget how Capcom released so many Disney games and how most of them were very good!
i love this channel. Great job. Keep up the work.
You're back! sweet mother of god! finally!
Thanks for reviewing these. After adventures in the magic kingdom I greww apprehensive of all the non DT/CaD games. on the nes at least.
Awesome stuff! I used to own these (except for the Little Mermaid) as a kid, seeing them again brings back memories.
Sweet! Glad to see you back in action!
Cool video man. Now on to part 2!
I can't choose between Capcom and Konami. They're both amazing companies.
Awesome Disney review. Hope part 2 comes up.
WOW! DWD brings back sooo many memories!
Yaaay, it's a video! Good reviews all around, about games I'm not sure I knew existed. As usual! Looking forward to part 2.

i always like watching (re watching hvgn) videos for fun but i always come back to this one lol i like when he sings the goof troop theme ITS CATCHY!!
Everytime i hear that intro, i expect drums to come in and hear "this is what it sounds like, when doves cry"
Great vid
The ending song to Darkwing Duck sounds like something that would be in Mega Man 3. Is that a coincidence?
Adventures in the Magical Kingdom. My first nes game, and I loved the freakin thing. Played Haunted Mansion until the ghosts started to say "Aw shit, hide, the kid's come back with his damn candle".
@Durbychannel there was a ride for POTC long before the movie was made just like haunted mansion
Just picked up Talespin for GB and yeah, it's a bit rough at first, but not bad once you get used to it. It's charming even if I didn't watch the original cartoons. Though it's not worth the average price in 2022 ($40), glad I got it for much less.
@lophatjello What do you think of the SNES Bonkers game?
Darkwing duck was my first NES game. So I got good at the bad controls before mega man
That magic kingdom game is awesome. I play it all the time, reply value is awesome. Younger kids love this game too.
what song starts at 0,20 second?
tx
+Jara80 It's from 1943 on NES.
Thanks!
Great song
I loved mickey mouscapade as a kid. I didn't know any better. It was fun.
The hardest thing about Tale Spin is to gettin use to the gameplay. Once you master flipping the plane the game is fairly easy. I remember getting frustated and giving up in the first two levels. Good video. Well put togeather and you have made a bunch of great points.
Darkwing Duck plays like a late-era NES Megaman game (MM5/6), which makes it impossible to look at it without thinking of Megaman.
Heart breaks at the hatred of Mickey Mousecapades lol. Played that so much as a kid!
I love the Disney/Capcom games!
Yeh Capcom is a legendary franchise. They did an excellent job with Duck Tales. I played a little of Chip N' Dale & Darkwing Duck, and look forward to playing them some more. Great review.
Adventures in the Magic Kingdom.
Used to by my #1 easiest NES game for a long time.
Beat this the day my cousin got it for his birthday.
Used to go to my friend's house just to play magic kingdom. Such a classic game.
"Not onmy can he *Duck* pun intended" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I think we're in almost perfect agreement on these games so far, and that's not something I often find. I do enjoy Mickey Mousecapade, though, at least partially because it has that early NES Husdon charm, like in Doraemon.

Have you done A boy and his blob? If not, I think you should, I've seen a lot of bad reviews for it, and personally I thought it was pretty good,
whats that song at the begging?
I played these games and loved them.
Mousecapade has hudson's style of graphics and appearances. Look at milon's secret castle for a point of reference. I could tell the first time I saw the gameplay of Mousecapade that it was made by hudson only because I had played milon's secret castle.
haha, I’m pretty sure I did rent Little Mermaid, shockingly enough. I definitely remember carrying around those stupid shells.
7:50
Game maker here...

This would mean that, changing angles wouldn't prevent you from hitting the "y" matched enemy. :)
welcome back HVGN, been missing you ^^
the mega man intro was awesome. is it your remix?
What is the guitar riff in the intro from?
S the dr wily theme from mega man i think.
Dr. Wily Stage 1 & 2 from Mega Man 2.
Funny how I recently watched a LP of Darkwing Duck, and he beat it very quickly and easily (he wasn't doing a speedrun).
I'm thinking of starting my own retro game review channel. I already have Nintendo Power posters on my wall, a collection of NES games, and now I just need to practice cursing in every sentence and I'll be all set.
I am kind of surprised at how many Disney/Capcom games I remember playing. LOL.
FINALLY someone gave Adventures in Magic Kingdom the respect it deserves!! I feel the same as you HVGN - I got that game for my bday when I was a kid, and loved it, and still play it.

"Capcom 'IS' the greatest third party..."
If you change this "IS" for a "WAS" then this statement would have been arguably right... (Though I personally like Konami, Enix and Square a bit more...)
in my defense, this video is almost 5 years old. and there certainly was a time when capcom was a hell of a company
lophatjello Actually... I agree... Capcom games used to be pretty darn good... That's why I said "was"... But nowdays the only capcom series that I find myself playing a lot is Ace Attorney...

+Ruko Michiharu Capcom has had a little bit of a comeback recently but time can't heal all wounds.
tim5fl Yeah they have gotten better... They're remaking Resident Evil 2 right? That's gotta count for something
Whoa, that grabbing on platform thing, I think Capcom brought it back to Megaman ZX on the DS!
Mickey Mousecapade was a really fun game in my opinion. It was the first game I owned (grandparents bought me NES, cousins gave me Mickey Mousecapade) so I admit to having some bias. I am going to start collecting the Disney Capcom games and probably more Disney games in general.
"not only can he DUCK" GOD you crack me up some times xD
Mickey mouse? That game is a bunch of poopy ass burger covered in diarrhea farts.
this is reminding me of the fun i had while playing The Little Mermaid.i had totally forgotten about it! like many others, but yeah
Does anyone else want a HVGN and AVGN body swap episode? They meet up and have an argument about games, a curse falls on them and they have trudge through the worst of the worst and the best of the best to switch back to normal? Could be fun
WHAT IS THAT INTRO THEME!!!
I RECOGNIZE IT BUT CAN'T PLACE IT.
I don't know if holding the button would work, but yours makes more seance.
I literally just noticed his “HAPPY Video Game Nerd”, Cinemassacre spin-off. I never got that until now, lmao. Anyway, good content man! #SSFF
OMFG I LOVED MOUSE CAPADES!!!! That gave me some kind of flashback seizure.... wow.
Speaking of Capsom's great games, the Phoenix Wright series is my favorite game series ever.
oooh nice to see another review.
Shame I never got to play any of those games(think I got a SNES when they finally got released in Europe)
