"Take your time with resident evil 5, I'm sure it'll be worth the wait."
This video aged well
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
It's actually pretty fun with friends, otherwise it's an even dumber 4.
@@Hi_Just_Fred I actually made this comment before playing it. Now it's one of my favorites, provided you have a friend.
Resident evil 5 is great in co-op
Odd that this nostalgia trip of a video feels so nostalgic in itself
lol let's not go overboard here ... megaman X was boss on the snes. You just can't imagine this megaman on the super nintendo console. It just does not match right.
The same goes for megaman zero. Zero plays completely differently and his play style is actually pretty fun and distinct like the original megaman was in the nes. I think it was refreshing.
Yees
The battlenetwork games are some of the best RPGs on the GBA, and personally I think the X series, the Zero series and the ZX games are better than the old megamans.
"Look how terrible it is, AWESOME"
I lol'd at that...
In most platformers, all you really need is a SMW text box sized sentence and a testing room like described.
Watching this video eight years later hurts my soul so much.
So sad that Capcom killed off the Megaman series so fast.
Spoiler Alert: it came back again.
The megaman battle network gba games were very awesome games, some of my best childhood gaming memories came from them. They're really worth an honest try, trust me on that.
alexis tousignant BN3 was the best!
@@muchhorrorsuchwow I like Bn2 more. Boss design in Bn3 is just weild. It makes the bosses harder than they should be.
I honestly think this game is more than just a nostalgia trip, I think it's better than MM2, yeah i said it, this game is one of the best ever, and doesn't deserve to just be classified as just a "return to form" this is the original megaman formula perfected in every way,
I can point out flaws with MM9.. So I will do that;
* No Mega Buster.
* No Slide.
* Disregard of the ending after MM7.
While MM2 was good, MM3 was far FAAAR superior.
Rainversey ...No mega buster? You mean the mega buster you use all throughout the game?
I think you mean charge shot. And the absence of that and the slide is definitely not a flaw. They were going for Mega Man TWO, and that didn't have either of those.
Rainversey Well that's not entirely true, Protoman has the slide and charge shot. Sure it's ruined by the fact that he takes more damage than Mega Man, but still.
Also, "Disregard of the ending after MM7?" what? what are you talking about? Explain that to me please.
marplatense31
Spoiler alert *
At the end of Megaman 7, Wily surrenders and tells Megaman that he will go quietly and put up no resistance. However, Megaman aims his Mega Buster at him saying that he doesn't trust Wily and that he should had done from the start.
Wily: "You forget, Megaman, robots cannot harm humans!"
Megaman: "I AM MORE THAN JUST A ROBOT!!!!! DIE WILY!"
But before he can kill Wily, the castle starts to crumble and WIly gets saved by Bass & Treble who tells Megaman that 'He who hesitates is lost, we will be back'.
After that, you see Megaman walk away from Wily's Castle as it explodes along with a very good, dramatic theme plays.
This, is never ever referenced again. The Japanese ending text is a bit different but it's essentially the same thing, Megaman tries to kill Wily. But then in Megaman 8 well..
"Vehn we find dat meteohr, we'll find Dr. WahWee".
And in Megaman 9, not referenced again.
Megaman 10, nope.
That's what I mean with it.
Rainversey No spoiler for me, I already knew how it ended. Actually, in the Japanese version it's not exactly the same. The part with Mega Man telling Wily to die was an addition to the American version, an addition that I hate but whatever.
So what is the thing that is never referenced again? Megaman telling Wily to die? already explained it was only in the American version. Or is it the act of Megaman trying to kill Wily at all? If so, why would they reference that? He tries to kill Wily, Wily reminds him that he can't hurt humans, and Megaman stops his actions, that's it. Why does it matter?
If this was Megaman X or Zero series, maybe they might have done something with it, but this is the classic series. The series where Wily disguises himself with sunglasses and beard and fools everybody into thinking he's someone else.
the song in the credits is from Code Name Viper for the NES (also a capcom title). the other one is from MM9, from the second or third Dr. Wily level. i can't remember which.
Born 1993, I'm a Crash Bandicoot kid. I have always taken such good care of my discs, that I still have my original copies of those games in mint, unscratched condition.
Honestly, I confidently think that the Mega Man Zero series is easily the best Mega Man series and Mega Man Zero 3 is just the best Mega Man game in general. I don't have any bias here either, Zero 3 isn't my favorite Mega Man game, nor is the Zero series my favorite series. They're just clearly outstanding.
X4 was pretty good
In my book, X Series in general was good, until they decided to try 3D. X7 was enough to make to stop caring about X and I did not even care to give as much as a chance to X8, afar from watching a bit of gameplay.
X4 is a masterpiece. I've played it back to back since I was 6 years old.
I was wondering about that beer in the background the whole episode. Your subtle humor and use of parody is refreshing.
The problem is that you keep using the word "bad". It's not bad so much as it's silly. I never once laughed at the creators in the good ol days. I wanted to slap them a few times while playing through Mega Man X7, but that's something else entirely.
Mega Man 9 is incredibly tongue in cheek about its design while being an amazingly designed platformer/action game. It's superb in every way possible. There is nothing "bad" about it.
nonono, i said the pinnacle was parts 2 and 3, and the last great title was X. i actually think that MM2 and 3 are tied for best MM game. i can't decide which one to love over the other, so i just see them both as levels of greatness that can't be beaten, only matched. but thank you for your kind words!
There were plenty of good mega man games after x1
*I'm new here; what's the joke at the end? That it's beer like what AVGN would use?*
I was the kid buying the battle network series!
Those games were fun as hell when I was a kid, I guess that's my childhood Megaman.
I didn't even know about classic Megaman till I was 13. :T (19 now)
"...it could never be as good as parts 2 and 3." Wrong! So wrong. Mega man 9 is BETTER than Mega Man 2 or Mega Man 3. Of all the classic-graphically styled Mega Man games, MM9 is the best.
I really like 7 and 8 I don't know why nobody likes 7 and 8.
@@matthewbrown7834 they suck
@@turtleanton6539 thats what every body says about them but they dont tell me why they suck.
Opinions are opinions so if you think that then thats fine. I just want to know why.
No way! They actually made one starring Tron Bonne! Awesome. I'm going to have to dig that one up on ebay when I have a job again, regardless of how good or bad it was.
Also, it's nice to see some positive game reviews for a change. I love James Rolfe's AVGN, don't get me wrong, but it just gladdens my heart a bit to see someone review a game in a positive way.
I feel like Mega Man Universe would have been a great addition to the Mega Man series...
Kind of like how A Link Between Worlds is for the Zelda series.
Nostalgic, but new.
The trick with the 2nd elephant is there is a spot where you can stand where the ball will safely bounce over you. Run to that spot, jump it on the return and get back to the same spot for the next volley.
Because of HVGN I know of fucking "Megaman soccer"
thank you.
How do you feel about them taking away the charge shot and the slide? I kinda miss them to be honest.
And RE5 was nowhere as good as as RE4.... and let's not even talk about RE6
But 7even
Rewatching this in 2021 and realizing we're just as far away from mega man 9 now as he was from mega man x when this video released
x2 was great
X2 was fantastic. best stage music in all megaman history (maverick hunter 2 stage). overall awesome style, music, weapons, bosses. X1-4 were all awesome with X3 being the weakest, yet deepest somehow lol
watching derek talk about how much he loves mega man 9 with an aspect ratio similar to the GBA screen is something i never thought i would do
Actually, sonic fans had it worse. I mean, at least some people liked BN, and by popular opinion, X, Z, and ZX were at least okay, where as sonic fans got... Boom. I do not need to discuss sonic boom, you KNOW what's wrong.
im a sonic and megaman kid awwww hard times D:
Knuckles and CD were the last playable Sonics imo. Each as innovative and fun as the last. Maybe rush and other GBA games are ok but I can't really play em more than a few levels without getting bored or sick of the weird voices and convos. And than there's Sonic 4...... destroyed physics and the homing attack?!?!?! wth.. What happened to accuracy to kill enemies? And what happened to the fire, electric, and water bubbles that gave sonic extra moves in 3 and knuckles? I played the demo of sonic 4 and had enough at the time. Don't get me wrong, I bought episodes I&II on steam when they were crazy cheap and I will beat them at some point.
benbmusic88 What about colors and generations
Sonic '06
Yes, but some people actually LIKED '06. I do not know of anybody who liked Boom
@artmanadvanced Code Name:Viper, NES. Good luck getting far enough to hear that song, that game is super hard!
Ah, Capcom, it makes me sad to watch what you have become now, you were the best game developers and created some of my favorite games of all time. And now here am I, waiting for Mighty No.9, Evil Within and Bayonetta 2 and maybe a spiritual succesor for Breath of Fire
is the background music at 9:22 : We're the robots?
From which game is the music played during the end credits?
9 is my favourite game in the series! Me and my friend spent weeks trying to complete it together, and when we finally saw the credits roll it was one of the high points in our friendship so far. *sob*
Terrific review! I was wondering about that beer throughout the whole video, I'm glad you used that at the end.
Other than probably Brentallfloss, Derek is probably the only game enthusiast to ever really bring a game's soundtrack into the spotlight! Long Live Starship Amazing and Derek!
What's the tune when The HVGN logo fades out? I LOVE IT!!!
where does that music at the end come from? Megaman 6?
What Starship Amazing album is the HVGN theme on?
God I love you intro, both audio and video... :)
For some odd reason, I love the 1:02 bed flop part the most... :)
I'm weird I guess XD
This makes me feel old
What is the intro music where it scrolls really fast through all the mega mans?
I think it's the best when that certain melody starts playing ;)
Just the fact that you used Concrete Man's theme in the video makes it good.
does the wii version of megaman 9 and 10 have all the dlc's when you buy it?
when the ps3 and xbox 360 versions don't?
What's the song at the ending credits?
Welcome to 8-bit gaming. A good 8-bit game strives to do two things:
1. Make you feel stupid.
&
2. Piss you off to the point where you try to prove the game wrong.
And as far as the third elephant, try this:
Keep blasting at him, jump the first ball and just rush him. Stand on the platform he is on and keep firing, you will take some damage but asuming you did not take too much getting to him you should survive.
wat was the song at the begining of the mega man part
@TheOrangeDart actually it was Megaman Legends, Megaman 64 was a port of Legends. a bad port i might add compared to the original PSone classic.
What game is at 0:43? Looks like a fun game!
whats all the music in the video? what robot masters?
whats the name of the song that plays from :09 to :14 i know it's a megaman song but i forgot which one is it, please tell me!!
@1xCloudStrifex1 alright, but that's not anyone's problem but yours. if you want to debate video games, sure, we all love doing that! it's fun! just don't get so excited, man.
Never really played the X series, still loved the MZ game though.
"Who's got time to clear the entire game without getting hit?"
Answer: Roahm Mythril
Were there at least 8 megaman games before nr#9 ?
Mega Man 3 was one of my all-time faves on the NES. Got it for Christmas too, which, when you're a kid, made it extra special.
wuts that nes song at the credits?
Wait, can you slide and charge your blaster? And if not, how do they explain it or do they just never bring it up? As someone who cares big time about the story, I must know.
@Testsubject909 this is the best comment on this video. for a person who has experienced a lot of megaman games such as you and me...i agree. Megaman 3 will always be my favorite. Megaman 9 comes in 3rd of the greatest classic games ever made with Megaman 2 in 2nd.
"Who's got time to clear the entire game without taking a hit?"
"Insert LuizPrower reference here"
Addendum: I was a Mario, Zelda, AND MegaMan kid. I didn't get a Genesis til the 64 was about to come out, and a 64 til halfway through its life.
I never played Mega Man before. Where do I begin? (What game should I start with and the prefered order)
does anyone know the music that starts playing at 1:18?
It's the Dr. Wily Stage 1 music from Mega Man 2, probably the most well-known bit of music in the entire Mega Man franchise.
It's for the 360 and PS3?
Everything you said is right. I can't believe I found a reviewer that made me agree with EVERYONE of their opinions in a single video!
Great job!
If you don't remember, replaying the same levels over and over until they were locked to memory was how play the game back in the day.
People who find the original MegaMan (among other titles) games classics were because they still long for those day where you were rewarded for repetitive gameplay with almost nothing but the satisfaction that you beat it.
Megaman 9 is a hard game, but that's what makes it so rewarding when you complete that one level that stumped you.
Man, HVGN is SO underrated! All you ever hear in the gaming community these days are nerds raging about sh*tty games and it's just SO refreshing to see a not only a positive reviewer for once, but someone who lets people about the really good stuff that they might have overlooked. Add some great jokes and the ability to make fun of himself and you've got a show that Needs More Love.
The description here of MM9's difficulty is spot on. It's definitely a hard game, but as he said, it's because of your own carelessness. That just means practice makes perfect! Once you figure out the puzzles, and develop the right control skills, overcoming the more difficult parts of the game becomes ridiculously satisfying. This is what made Mega Man 2 so wonderful, and it works here too. This game was definitely NOT phoned in.
I really love how u put togethere the intro. Amazing!
Wonder if Mr Alexander cringes when he sees his goatee? I definitely do 😃
Hahaha, I couldn't grow a full beard yet, so it was either the goatee or a neckbeard. And I stand that the goatee is the slightly better option!
whats the music at 8:00?
waths the the name of the song in the begining
I like how you showcase games in the beginning of the video
Oh btw... I was a Castlevania kid. Maybe we didn't have a iconic character to adhere to, still we loved our own series as much as anyone else loved theirs... but we still played the other games as well.
Unfortunately, the Swedish(+Spanish) company which made both new Bionic Commando and Rearmed is no more. It was hired by SquareEnix for an undisclosed project, then SquareEnix stopped payments and the company had to file for bankrupcy.
The battle network games were actually pretty good at what they were trying to do. Establish an rpg while including some fun little references to characters in the main series, as well as maintaining a fun experience. You can't harp on it for being a Mega Man rpg, besides, we all saw that network transmission case. Though you probably only bought it because it was a Mega Man platformer.
If I may say, the Battle Network series is a really fun and addicting game. Though the gameplay is almost completley branched out, it still retains the quick paced feel of shoot-and-dodge-or-die.
the Megaman Battle Network games are great GBA RPGs IMO
Yo Derek....wheres the sound bro??
my only complaint is not being able to charge your mega buster.
What game shows at 00:46 ??
This is the first I've ever seen of your vids, kudos to you sir! Subscribed!
What was with the end "what the hell?"
"Take your time with Resident evil 5. It'll be worth the wait" WHOOPS!!!
" Who keeps buying the battle network games anyways?"
I DO!
I think they're done well and fun to play.
whats the beginng music which mega man?
I share your thoughts, but personally I'd like to see a Megaman 10 or at least something that brings the story full circle to Megaman X.
should i get it on wii or ps3?
Megaman 9 is 'truly' a return to form almost perfectly. megaman 10 doesn't even come close!
@hookshotagain yes, the Legends series may have been a financial failure, but it was made with heart and thats why its so enjoyable. a quirky world with loveable, quirky characters. im surprised it didn't catch on :(
at each ending of his reviews he has a glass of wine instead of a bottle of beer XD
I don't know if anyone (or even myself) has mentioned this but the MM9 "box art" wasn't a Capcom creation. It was actually made by Gerald de Jesus of i am 8-bit, a fan. However unofficially Capcom USA has opted to use this design for a few brief advertising purposes... yet it's still not official Capcom artwork. Just thought that I'd mention it.
What about the Master System?
going back to BASSics
Why didn' t you mention the addons to this game?
what you described is me exactly, I'm in my first year of middle school and can't play any classic mega man games but I've always wanted to. I can't get an NES because I spent all my time and money ( which wasn't much cuz I'm a kid) to get an N64. I bought this game and mega man 10 and THEIR AWESOME. thanks Happy Video Game Nerd
Good on ya for appreciating the old school. But honestly at this point in time, the entry threshold of pricing for a lot of those old games is bloody crazy. Most likely you would be better(and cheaper) to find them on the Wii virtual console. As of right now, Mega Man 1,2,3,4,5,X, and X2 are all available.
I Doubt a kid in middle school would play mega man
