It's Not Just About Gators Or Is It?

- This is part one of a two part kayaking trip to the Okefenokee Swamp.
If gators are your thing than you need to make a trip to the Okefenokee Swamp! Even if you don't like gators this place has something for you. With all the research I did before going to the swamp I was still kinda taken back just how massive it is and the amount of wildlife that I seen here even for January.
The Okefenokee Swamp is a very unique place unlike anything I've ever experienced! There is a ton of gators here but there's no need to really be scared of them as long as you give them there space. The last thing they are wanting is to mess with you and all they're trying to do is get away from you. Even though it may seem like they are coming after you LOL.
I put in at Stephen Foster State Park just outside of Fargo Georgia. I spent the first night at Canal run shelter which was around a 7 Mile paddle into the current. Canal run was a very tight and narrow paddle most of the way.
The second day was around a 5 mile paddle to Floyd's Island through mostly open canals and open prairies.
The third day was a 9 Mile paddle back to Stephen Foster State Park and that was going with the current lol. This stretch was one of the most prettiest sections of the whole trip.
Great little place to stay in Fargo Ga. before you hit the water.

I am nearly 62 years old now, and my family camped there nearly every year when I was a youngster. So many great memories!

That's great! You can tell someone cleans inside the fence area. I'm sure it would be covered in leaves in know time.
Great video! Thank you for sharing. I would be nervous getting that close to a gator (18:27), but it didn't seem aggressive. I've never had one act aggressively, but I have never been that close to one either.
Yeah the first couple of gators I was close to did get me a little nervous but after I seen they would not move unless I startled them it was fine. Especially the amount of gators there was I lost count of how many I actually seen lol.

Loved seeing this...I've been considering a return to that region. I grew up not too far from there and paddled and crossed that beautiful place several times in the late 60s and early '70s. It is just magical and I love seeing folks, like you, out in it and enjoying its splendor...
If I could ask a technical question? I'm not too "tech savvy" but how, and what with, did you get some of those incredible shots of the gators and you below paddling all at the same time? It seemed like you were all alone. Was this some type of self tracking drone shot? Realy well done other than getting a little "grainy." Thanks in advance and for sharing this with all of us. I'm looking forward to the second part...

It will get a little grainy when I try to zoom in all the way. I could fix some of that with a better laptop and then recording in 4K but my laptop I have currently can't really handle 4K footage lol. A 360 camera records in a 360° radius all the way around me so I really don't have to worry about which way the lens is pointing. After you're done recording you use the app and you can move and reframe footage in any direction you want. It's really an awesome camera and it has become one of my favorite cameras!

That area your Longtail would eat it up! I’m building my boat now. What do you tie your handle off to with a floor in it no way to get to bottom braces ? I’m doing same floor you did!
It sure would lol. Look up rope loop I got one from Lowes I think it was a 9/16" size and I screwed it to the bench seat kinda right under where the handle would be. I'll try to do a short video on that soon.

Does Foster Park still rent jonboats?
Yes I do believe I seen someone on a rental Jon boat and they also have canoes and kayaks to rent.
