Bought one of these almost 20 years ago for just over $100, I believe. Returned it immediately because I was a newb that didn't understand gain staging. Playing into 5150 combo.... Ug. I'm still kindof stupid on occasion.
I had this pedal back in 1994. I couldn’t write much material with it because it was too abrasive, but my friend traded me his Boss Phaser for it so he could take advantage of the gain boost aspect of it. I wish I still had it.
Had one of these, as advertised they are absolutely insane. I sold mine when the value went way up and now for my Super Fuzz sounds I have a Wilson Knuckle Dragger. It can get as nuts as this pedal can but can also be much more subtle. Very cool pedal.
Superb pedal and very cool to mess around with. I’m glad I have one, in fact I also have the criminally underrated SD-2 that came out in 1993 along with the HM-3. A great trio of drive pedals.
@@javiceres I like it quite a bit. Sound wise, it’s spot on to the FZ-2. The only thing the Behringer doesn’t bring is the nostalgia of the original Boss casing. Having the boost feature is perfect for amps you prefer the available gain on. It also fattens up your clean considerably. Then the bonus is two fuzz pedals to choose from with the Fuzz 2 setting having a cool Hendrix Octavia added when playing higher up the neck. Worth every penny. Oh yeah, and pretty much instant Electric Wizard.
@@deathbysonar I'm using a SF300 in the loop of a Boss MS-3 feeding into a pair of Princeton Reverbs. That thing sounds killer for a $12.00 (used) pedal. I'm switching it out with the new FZ-1W which I really like. Have a FZ-5 thats ok, but it's the same basic sound the GT-100/MS-3 use.

I just bought a plasma coil and played it a few hours and am gonna take it back and get a hyper fuzz. Plasma is awesome but it doesn’t really get a good “normal” tone . This is what my octavia clone sounds like but w eq which is what I need

I don't think they're interested. The HM-2 would have far more demand in general, and they haven't done that either. Before the really accurate Behringer clones, I kind of believed when they said the Germanium chips are not available anymore. But since Behringer can do it, I suspect Boss simply said it to keep the used prices up artificially (but to what end - no idea :D).

The FZ-2 is the only pedal that I don't consider replaceable on my board -- everything else I can swap out with something similar and have it sound fine, but the Hyper Fuzz (or Behringer's absolutely amazing clone) is so unique there's really no substitution.
Got one yesterday. Bloody love it, except for the one problem that besets all Boss dirt boxes, that the tone controls sweep from "Okay" to "Too trebly", through "Way too fucking trebly", "The Treble Dimension where there is only treble" and "ruptured eardrums". Fuzz II is almost unusable to me. But set it to Fuzz I with both tone controls on zero and you're golden.

Bought one 5 years ago for 40 euro's, best deal I ever got, haha. It's a rather specific sound, but if that's what you want, there aren't many good other options.
Got mine in the 90s. Still with box and papers. Used it but never loved it, Metal Zone style w similar EQ, also silent and robust. Back then ( here in Spain ) the only pedals you could find were Boss, it was very difficult to see some Big Muff, MXR, Rat or whatever around. When I get this kind of stuff or a Fuzz Factory parked the Hyper Fuzz for decades. Now I can't believe the hype. Thank you God Of Noise! hope to get a fistful of dollars for it. Hopefully it can help to get me a dream guitar. Also similar story with a Marshall Blues Breaker, incredible, and I really don't like this.
Anyone who wants one but is not up for paying the 2nd hand market prices, the Behringer Super Fuzz is an excellent clone if you can get past the orange plastic casing. It also lacks the concentric tone pot, so it's less versatile.
Whiskeyklone but...the concentric knob isn't needed because they literally made it two separate knobs...meaning it's basically the same in a sense they both have the same options. It's just not laid out in the same way.
Drove the price of FZ-2 up this video did, never getting rid of mine no matter how desperate I am! If Andy could only showcase some of the old pedals I am selling....

Boss made a distortion/fuzz I could actually use?!? Woah! No disrespect, Boss make great pedals, just always found the voicing of their distortions and overdrives to be quite thin

This was the 3rd pedal I bought, I've had it in my rig for 20+ years. Fuzz 2 is just plain fun, and it's a speaker shredder when you crank it.

Mine does not leave the studio, but I found similar sounds with the Fulltone Catalyst (discontinued).
