I watched a Jim root playthrough of it and the actual riff isn't that heavy. The way it sounds with the band all together is what makes it.

The self-titled is pure encapsulated hate. The rawness of it, lack of metronome, iconic riffs & drum patterns, amazing use of samples and turntables, great lyrics and above all, Corey's voice and vocal delivery... It's amazing how good that album translates raw emotion onto you when you listen to it. It will forever be my no.1 album of all time 🖤

There's some very heavy riffing post Vol. 3, like Gematria, All Hope Is Gone, AOV, This Cold Black, We Are Not Your Kind and such. Also missing imo are riffs from New Abortion, The Shape, Iowa, Welcome, Everything Ends, Opium of the People and so on.
You could really select nearly every riff from them hehe
@@ReturnTheSlab932 True, true. But it's more about the vibe of the song and the way the riffs are played that drives the "heavy" point home to me. I could go with anything from Iowa because that whole album is just a group of truly pissed off people giving the middle finger to the entire world. That's why that album will always be my favorite of them, even though I met them in Vol. 3.

I’m glad to see so many of these are from their more obscure songs. A lot of great riffs are overshadowed by the popular ones, which are still great, but don’t hold a candle to some of the riffs that didn’t make the spotlight or the original releases of albums.

@@sadcat6714 the reason I like the 1995-1998 era slipknot more than any time after was because the band style was weirder and they had different members. The history and stuff is cool and it’s like rare stuff etc
The issue with listening to Slipknot is because they have so many popular songs that slap, alot of less popular ones are just forgotten even tho they can be just as good, if not better. So don't just listen to the hits. Try some of the less well known stuff to

Why have I been so much slipknot lately. First it was Stevie T, then Ola Englund, and Now you!!! I mean I'm not complaining they were the band that got me into heavy guitars and fast drums. You should've added Wherein lies Continue and Liberate. Liberate is my favorite song by them by the way.
Mannnn All Hope is Gone gets slept on so hard. Gematria, Vendetta, This Cold Black, and Ghenna are right up there heaviness wise.

Pulse of The Maggots is my favorite Slipknot riff of all time. It’s heavy as fuck and it makes me feel even more powerful than I already am 💪🏻

Dude a truly underrated song is The Nameless. On the live album it goes harder than almost any of their songs. No one ever talks about that song. I’ve never understood why!?

I dunno I’ll have to give a shout to Gematria, Sulphur, Sarcastrophe, Lech, Solway Firth, and Nero Forte on the last 3 albums. Vermillion isn’t near as hard as those songs. First 3 albums obviously the hardest, but there is still heavy to be had on the newer.

great playing! love the video. from one audio tech to another, though: maybe bring up the mids a tad and give your guitars some low end :3 the riffs sound a bit washed out by all of the high gain distortion

Something sounds off with the Pulse of the maggots at the ending... Like are you using some type of pedal/effect that makes your guitar a higher pitch when you are only hitting one string or something? When you play the single lowest string it sounds higher than what I imagine it should sound based on how heavy the Chord is

Depends on what you wanna play
Buy a guitar
Learn as much Alan Holdsworth as possible , jokes aside. Learn the basics like your open chords ( and switching between these chords) and major and minor scales. Work on your alternative picking and start playing songs your into.
As a self taught guitarist of over 20 years, one thing I wish I had done is have some lessons early on.
Slipknot are the godfathers of crazy heavy energetic music!
