  • Find out why 80% of my FPV flying is done with analog FPV and why these SkyZone 04X OLED FPV goggles are now my goggles of choice.
    Also check out Pawel Spychalski's video "5 things I love about the analog FPV"
    • Analog FPV is the best!
    SkyZone 04X OLED FPV Googles...
    Pros:
    - fantastic colors and dynamic range - great FOV (not too big, not too small)
    - excellent user-interface for menus etc - spare module bay (for different bands or receiver modules)
    - super comfortable with no light leakage
    - can be used with the Fatshark digital system
    - DVR is not too shabby!
    Cons:
    - not the cheapest goggles on the market but still great value
    - I prefer the old antenna layout
    More product information is available on the SkyZone website:

    Outstanding review Bruce! I’ve had my Sky04X for a week or so and I could not be any happier. Unreal how far we’ve come. Digital is awesome but I can’t fly tiny whoops on DJI. I love my tiny whoops.

    You can't beat a Bruce video for honesty, that is for sure. And I understand what you mean about preferring analog over digital when it comes to pushing the range. I liken it to the switchover between Digital TV from analog, digital being great until the reception gets a bit poor, due to maybe a heavy rain shower between rx and tx. With the old analog I would just get a bit of snow in the picture, but with digital it just craps out totally.

    A couple of minor annoyances I've found for people who might be interested in these goggles:
    1. The module bay is slightly too short to fit some receivers. Not a big deal because you can just file off some of the plastic and because the included receiver works fine in my experience.
    2. Whatever adhesive they use on the foam padding is horrible, mine was peeling off within ~2 weeks. I switched to my own double sided tape and haven't had any issues.
    3. The fan tends to rub on it's power wires occasionally. Easy to fix by taking the fan cover off and using tweezers to bend the wires down.
    4. The auto record feature on the DVR seems unreliable in my experience. Sometimes it won't start recording until 10-20 seconds after getting signal, and sometimes it won't record at all.
    I've had my sky04x's for a little over 2 months now and could only come up with this small handful of downsides. If that doesn't tell you how awesome the goggles are, I'll just tell you now. These goggles are awesome. The screens are great, the receiver is great, the DVR is great. If you're in the market for a high end set of analog goggles, these are the ones to get.

    Bruce, quick, find all the Karen's and stop them for reporting you for flying without a spotter.. and OMG, you flew higher than fence top level. You might hit one of those rogue silent cessna's that fly down your street at sub tree top level... 😛
    Oh, and nice back yard by the way, much bigger (and prettier) than the old one, think that's the first time we've seen it....

    Hey Bruce, Thanks for the review. Apparently there is a new version of the Skyzone Steadyview they will call the "Steadyview X" with fixes for the diversity switching issues the current Steadyview has and particularly with some cameras. The latest O4X's are shipping with the latest firmware which have the extra menu options for the new upcomming module. I hope Skyzone support the current module owners appropriately....

      I bought these goggles in Jan, and I'm absolutely loving them. I was never 100% happy with my fatshark hd3s whereas my husband has had two lots of skyzones and been very happy. After fatsharks, has taken a bit to adjust to the different menu set up but once you get used to it, its very easy to use, and gives great clear signal for racing, and great dvr. I also love the focus feature, I'm finally getting clear view for both eyes. A club friend who has to use diopters in his fs tried them, and I loved his comment once he got them focused 'omg, even the snow is really clear!'

  • @housinit
    @housinit 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Yeah, see, I couldn't say they are the best because they don't accept diopters. Sure, they have adjustable focus, but they don't take into account that people have astigmatisms and stronger prescriptions. Massive fail for me. I love my Sky02 V+ goggles, but really want some new ones. I was really looking forward to the 04X, but its a no go. Super bummer. The only option now for good OLED analog goggles are the Orqa ones, they accept diopters. I will be moving to DJI soon, but still want a separate good pair of analog goggles. Thanks Bruce! Great review.

    The stock receivers on any Skyzone goggle have been more then fine for flying within ranges we are supposed to be. No need for all that external add on stuff with these. If you need more power then a base station set up on a tripod is the best add on. I have my 02x and uses a runcam pheonix2 and I think the picture in the goggles is better then any DJI video I have seen yet. I fly IN trees and have zero issue seeing scraggle.

  • @viorelgligor9504
    @viorelgligor9504 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I love your reviews, thanks for everything! I started the hobby with the DJI's digital FPV, as the quality of the analog video reminded me about the times when we had like two hours of television a day (mostly filled with news about Ceausescu) and we were trying to catch any terrestrial TV broadcast from neighboring countries from hundreds of kilometers away. In this case not so good old times :)
    Nowadays, seeing better and cheaper analog gear, I feel like trying it (besides the TinyHawk 2 I play occasionally). Question: between the Skyzone's 04X and CobraX (except the size) which one would you recommend?

  • @onemanmob6756
    @onemanmob6756 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    About module bays: you'll need to dremel them a lot if you want to install tbs fusion (also the fusion boards) -there3no way it'll fit out of the box. I assume the same applies to other non-skyzone/eachine modules like rapidfire....

    • @EvenTheDogAgrees
      @EvenTheDogAgrees 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Unfortunately, I already invested in OLED FPV goggles and diopters, otherwise I'd probably be all over these as well.
      For people with eyes that require more correction than these offer though, it doesn't appear these can take diopters. So if your eyesight is really bad, that's something to keep in mind. The website also doesn't mention how far the focus adjustment goes...

  • @EvenTheDogAgrees
    @EvenTheDogAgrees 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Bruce, does the sympathetic resonance also apply to the receiving antennas? I can imagine if two antennas are close to each other and both transmitting, this would result in interference, but if they're just listening it shouldn't matter, should it?
    I'd be more worried about the dual antennas on many VTXes. Fortunately, they're usually installed more or less perpendicular, so as to get good reception regardless of the drone's orientation.

    • @Gw0wvl
      @Gw0wvl 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, interaction between antennas works if they are for receive or transmit ... The unused antenna acts as a parasitic antenna/Element then, It can affect the way the signal is recieved or transmitted from the working antenna , This can skew the signal, Make it more directional in one direction over another and so on .

Going from SKY01 to SKY04X was ... WWOOOOWW! I CAN SEE! I'd like to claim I'm a better FPV pilot because of them. Nah! Interesting point about 4:3 vs 16:9. I've always liked 16:9. I'll have to try 4:3. I gather a 4:3 camera is "de rigueur" as well. Cheers. G.

    10:22 Humm.... ;-) The Skyzone 04X do support Quadversity Mode you just have to get another Skyfusion VRX and even with what amounts to beta firmware at a distance you can see wires not shown with a single Rapidfire VRX and contrast detail is better. Like you said simply the best (for now)... pretty amazing what RC has become. Let's just hope the FAA's new Senior project lead scientist Dr. Mark Skinner doesn't do to RC what he did to his own property values in Maluhia Country Ranches on Maui.
    Hard to believe I can say that and tell the truth all in the same sentence. lol But like Sharp said... anything is possible. The odds of something happening don't control cause and effect that's for sure.

    good review :) really I do like Your fair opinion. 1st - they still got problems with some camera/TX combination - which was little better with some firmware update, also they still promised next update which should improve it again - will see. just be aware, that some combination is not working ATM (diversity mode they do suggest to solve it is IMHO not as good as other receivers). 2nd problem - bay for modules are v. small - their own modules do fit (steadyview/rapidmix), rapidfire also can be put with some DIY work and custom cover - but a lot of other great RX just can not be used (trueD, Fusion, pro58) as they simply will not fit :/ just a bigger module bay need to be made - maybe a 04x v2 ;)
    other then those problems - they are really nice. Community support also look not bad - they do respond quickly on FB groups.

    2:10 Well said! It will be a step back in the right direction to 4:3 when the manufactures of FPV equipment break free of using 16:9 CMOS sensors designed for commercial non-FPV video use when all FPV pilots realize the huge difference between a fixed frame of visual reference like you have sitting in a wide screen movie theater where the director controls the horizon... and the variable frame of reference you have when flying where up and down become left and right doing a roll or flying knife edge sideways. In either axis you need to see where you are going and what's coming into view as soon as possible. Just think how much distance you cover and how much longer you have to wait to see the tip of a tree in your flight path coming out of a loop. Just think how sad you would feel if you hit a nest full of little baby Yellow Bellied Sap Suckers as I really doubt they will want to give it back.

    • @xjet
      @xjet 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fortunately the barrel connector is a good tight fit and certainly won't fall out. More of a worry to me is the very short and loose connector that DJI use on their goggles. That *does* cause intermittent loss of power to the goggles so many people have 3D printed a little bracket to hold it in place. Never had a problem with my SkyZones although the right-angle versions of the barrel connector (that plugs in the side) of goggles does have a tendancy for the wires to fracture internally. I had this problem on my Aomway goggles.

    I was thinking about buying a pair of these but my EV200D goggles still work fine. I was looking at the Eachine version but this one has higher resolution. I like the colors available on the EV300O. I want to see the footage with the Sharkbyte attached. Get on it Bruce.

    Clearview style signal blending butchers the video colour quality in my opinion.

    You should always install the 3rd party module into the left bay if you then throw the rapid mix module into the right bay you WILL get quad diversity.

    you have insert lenses on your 03os? or are those just the plastic 0 ones that came with them ? I took those off when i got my set as I thought it'd be nice to be looking straight through the optics.
