Hey everyone! Join me as I watch Hercules today for the first time as an adult! I saw this movie one time when I was like 5 and don't remember much of it, so we have to go back and revisit it!
Disney tackles Greek mythology in this animated feature. Hercules (Tate Donovan), a son of gods, was snatched as a baby by Hades (James Woods) and forced to live among mortals as a half-man, half-god. Now a teenager, Hercules needs to perform a rite of passage on Earth to prove himself worthy of living with the gods on Mount Olympus. With his plucky satyr sidekick, Philoctetes (Danny DeVito), along for the ride, Hercules must learn how to use his strength to defeat a series of evil creatures.

As it was with their past film Aladdin with its whimsical blue Genie, Hades also gives off a lot of improv done by James Woods as Robin Williams did. According to production notes, the filmmakers wanted to give Hades the persona of a busy, fast-talking talent agent.

For anybody interested in the inaccuracies (they're A LOT): First off, the name is Heracles because the movies uses the Greek names for everyone else.
    1:48 - The Muses are 9, not 5.
2:56 - Hera is actually the bad guy in the myth. She hates Heracles and tries to kill him multiple times.
3:19 - Narcissus wasn't a god and if he sees himself, he turns into a flower.
3:40 - Heracles never met Pegasus, which wasn't created by Zeus by the way (he was born from the head of Medusa).
4:00 - Hades is actually a pretty decent god, he never attempts any plot to take over Olympus, and in 2 myths he lets people out of the Underworld because he's moved by love. And he did choose to rule the Underworld.
6:31 - Here they mixed the Fates with the Gray Sisters.
6:38 - Hades helped defeating the Titans. He wouldn't want to free them.
    7:16 - Heracles wasn't a god (he's granted godhood after his death).
8:18 - The parents are the only accurate characters. Alcmene is the real mother though, and there was also a step brother, and Heracles always knew that Zeus was his father. The 2 snakes are a reference to a murder attempt by Hera.
11:46 - People actually loved him because he protected his town.
14:27 - He can. Any god can.
14:38 - Philoctetes was a friend of Heracles, not a trainer and he wasn't a Satyr. Chiron trained Heracles and other heroes but he was a Centaur. What is accurate is that satyrs in Greek mythology would try to chase Nymphs.
16:51 - Heracles is shocked by "THE Argo" but the myth of Jason and the Argonauts didn't happened yet and Heracles was one of the Argonauts!!!
16:59 - Hearcles precedes both Odysseus and Achilles. Phil also mentions Theseus and Perseus while on the disk the Minotaur kills Theseus, but Theseus actually did kill the Minotaur and Perseus succeded as a hero. In fact, there is a constellation of Perseus so Phil's dream is already fullfilled!!! Also, Perseus was son of Zeus too so Phil shouldn't be sceptical.
19:40 - Nessus is the last monster that Heracles defeats, not the first, and Nessus causes Heracles' death.
22:10 - Megara was in fact Heracles first wife but Hera drives Heracles mad so he kills his family, including Megara (this initiates the 12 Labours). Megara has nothing to do with Hades. Heracles doesn't go to the Underworld to reclaim her soul (but he does to reclaim the soul of one of his friend's wife).
22:32 - As the god of the Underworld Hades would know that Heracles was still alive, since he wasn't in the Underworld.
25:14 - IX I I are Roman numbers, not Greek.
25:54 - The context of when Heracles fights Hydra is different. Hydra is not giant, doesn't regrow 3 heads for each one that is cut, it has 9 heads and each head that is cut grows back. And that's not how Heracles kills the Hydra.
28:32 - He captures that ALIVE in one of his labours, he doesn't kill it.
28:46 - He wasn't paid to be a hero. He tried in one of the Labours resulting in that being nullified...
29:17 - Heracles never fights Minotaurs, Gryphons, or Gorgons. Also in that scene he's looking at the Gorgon which would kill him.
    30:13 - Trojan war didn't happen yet.
31:33 - It is! And technically Heracles should wear that skin for the rest of the movie since it's what he does in the myth.
33:27 - Nearly all Greek heroes (and Gods) are petty and dishonest.
37:36 - Heracles never gives away his powers.
38:13 - None of those Titans corresponds to mythology and one of them is a Cyclop and Cyclopes actually helped the gods fighting the Titans.
38:48 - As Cody himself realizes, the gods defeated the Titans when they were fewer and weaker so they should beat them now.
41:34 - Heracles never fought the Titans.
42:34 - Taming Cerberus is actually one of Heracles Labours... Aaaand to do that he gets Hades' permission first.
42:46 - The Styx river doesn't kill you, it makes you invincible... That's how Achilles becomes invincible.
43:25 - Heracles becomes a god after his death and he never gave up his godhood.
45:10 - Considering how Aphrodite is depicted in Greek mythology that is not out of the realm of possibilities.

Hercules still training with Phil and went to Africa to fight wild animals, then Scar appears, he saw Hercules and try to eat him. But Hercules manage to defeat Scar and take off his skin and fur, and went back to Greece to training.

You were right about two things : Phil is a faun because it's the same creature than the satyr but in roman mythology, and yes, It's Scar.
If you remember of the begining of " The Lion King " Zazu says to Mufasa that he sees Scar as a carpet of something like that.
Fun fact : the statue of an angel kissing a woman, visible during Meg's song, is a real one called " Psyché and Love " (it's the short title) exposed in the Louvre museum except they don’t kiss each other (I saw it in real)
Also, according to the myth, Psyché become a goddess so I don't understand why they don’t do it for Meg.
Always about Greek mythology, I think Zeus has no power of the Underworld or the Sea what are Hadès and Poséidon's kingdoms. By the way, these three Gods and Héra (Zeus' wife) are siblings

    - John Goodman was considered to play Zeus before Rip Torn got casted as Zeus.
    - There’s a theory that Hercules and Ariel from The Little Mermaid are cousins.

4:08 You remember, at the beginning of the video, where you almost called Hades "Satan"? Yeah, there's a reason for that. In actual Greek mythology, *all* the gods were self-centered jerks, and Hades was no better or worse than the rest. The idea that the guy upstairs is the good guy and the guy downstairs is the bad guy comes from Christianity. Unfortunately, a lot of Hollywood writers (this isn't limited to just Disney) assume that the average American isn't going to be able to understand a different cultural background, so they took Christianity's Satan, slapped Hades's nametag on him, and called it good.
