Can I request a live action made by Disney action gangster movie blood in blood out its on Disney plus and Hulu it's a really cool movie
Heads up, you can fight a few characters from this movie in the game Kingdom Hearts. It's one big crossover game, so seeing all the best disney animated films before 2002 is a good move before you check it out.
I love how she wanted to see his mortal parents, but had her eyes closed when they showed them celebrating.
She did it twice!
I mean, I get the point that the movie should have showed them more, but I saw at least two instances of his mortal parents being shown on screen while she wasn’t looking and I was screaming at her to look both times 🤣
i was just going say that... she did it twice😂😂😂
LOL yeah
☠️☠️☠️☠️😂
@@MaryCherryOfficial Can you please react to kung fu panda 4
Craziest thing Disney did was make Zeus a good father 🤣
and a loyal husband and not an absolute bastard
@@knuckles543 Yes, he's actually a quite decent person in this. In the actual myths? Not so much.
I don't know. Pocahontas might have it beat in terms of inaccurate audacity 😆...
well as a father he can vary. As a husband however, yikes
Well for sure no Hercules 2 where they show him doing his labors and why
When Hades said “it’s only halftime,” it really was the halfway point of the movie
They showed his adoptive parents twice and you looked away lol
3 times,actually
They showed that Hercules bought his parents a mansion during the Zero to Hero song and he reunited with them at the end when he chose to stay on Earth.
I love how she managed to look away/close eyes while singing during both of those parts, Classic Mary 😂
James Wood voiced Hades. He actually ad-libbed a lot of his lines.
@bjchit IKR! but he's always casted at the villain when it comes to his voice acting, why can't he ever play a normal character that isn't the villain?
Well. He did do that itchy bitchy lilsty little detail youvmay not remark...
HE OWNED IT.
@@rickymoranjr9609
In the TV series "Shark" he plays an unethical lawyer who has a moral wake-up call when his sports star client kills his girlfriend.
He then quits his private practice and becomes a prosecutor. Still mean and skirting the ethics rules at times, but trying to put really bad guys away.
A subplot is trying to reconnect with his estranged teen daughter who comes to live with him.
@@rickymoranjr9609 His forte is tortured villain. In real life, as well as in acting. He went to college and specialized in right-wing national security studies -- and became a paranoid neo-con with intense hatred for non-whites and non-Christians.
The majority of his time is spent ranting against non-whites and apparently his whole family has turned against him, and he cannot get any parts in movies anymore because he attacks the other actors and the crew. sad but true. But he made a great Hades back in the days when he could be an actor instead of an insane ranting nut.
@@spikeysnack good to know
“Can’t Zeus help? He’s a god for god sake!”
Me:😆😂🤣
Zeus is too powerful and removed from humanity to ever be the protagonist seems like he can win in five minutes and that's it. His son always seems to be the Greek hero.
This movie is not the best place to learn about Greek mythology, but it is a good time.
The reason why Phil comes off as a creep sometimes is because Satyrs were notoriously horny in Greek myths.
Well of course he's horny. He's a goat man.
Hercules with Superman's origin starring in a Rocky like movie makes this my kind of Disney movie
Interesting facts, In the Original Greek Mythology:
- Hercules (or Heracles in the original Greek) was the bastard son of Zeus and a Mortal Woman (Zeus did that kind of thing a lot).
- When he grew up, Hera drove him mad, made him kill his family (which a punishment worthy of those terrible divine punisher the furies) and got him to serve his jerk cousin.
- Compared to the rest of the Gods, Hades is pretty chill.
- Heracles was set to do ten tasks (it was upped to twelve on technicalities). Among these was kill the Nemean Lion (he strangled it to death), Capturing the Eurythian Boar (his Cousin leapt into a huge jar with fright), Slaying the Hydra (he added it's venom to his arrows) and bringing the Girdle of Hippolyta to his cousin (she fell for him, they slept together, but Hera pulled shenanigans and Hippolyta got killed in the process).
- He casually wrestled the god of death (Thanatos) to the ground between labours. No biggie.
- There's a shocking amount of murder in his life.
- He besieged a lot of cities for what their Kings did to him (like cheating him out of getting paid to clean stables).
- When he took a slave from a captured city, his wife got jealous and smeared a tunic with the blood a tricky centaur who had kidnapped her had gifted her after he'd been shot with one of Heracles' poisoned arrow. In agony, Heracles threw himself into a fire - and became a god.
- He also defended the gods from a load of Giants, who were the children of the Earth.
Lol didnt most gods and goddesses have those type of stories. Im surprised Greek mythology isnt considered a sort of eroticism but i guess thats because of all the killing and fighting
@@fatty1040 and the magic and the shenanigans.
I'd recommend checking out Overly Sarcastic Productions for funny retellings of myths.
Said wife was only told that the tunic would keep him from leaving her. It was a final screw you from one of Herakles' enemies.
Also, the person you referred to as a slave was technically supposed to be a wife that he was supposed to get married to in exchange for helping her father out, but this was another one of those cases where he besieged a city because he had been cheated...in the meantime he had a few extra adventures during one of which he met and married the aforementioned jealous wife, but that wasn't going to stop him from going back for the wife that he was owed for previous work.
When I was little I always thought it was weird that Zeus had so many sons and daughters from different women but never questioned it. When I became an adult and reread how it happened I can see why Hera wasn't the happiest wife/sister. I mean, some of those mythology stories are wild.
@@fatty1040 They say religion is window to culture identity of times. Greeks lived different lives which also explains a lot about the rise of monotheistic religions and their views. Which happens to have a lot of terrible things in them compared to modern times.
"I kinda wish he went back to his adoptive parents and gave them a bit of an update" *He did **3:20** and you chose to literally look away*
Drives me nuts.
Twice!
Learning about ancient Greece through Hercules is like learning braille though a calculator
Famed comic book writer Grant Morrison is on record as saying this is the best Superman movie he's ever seen.
It does take a lot core elements from Superman
i mean this character existed for a few thousand years before superman was ever "invented"
Disney’s take on Hercules’ story has far more in common with modern Superman comics than the actual mythological Hercules. Sorry, “Heracles”.

Narcisius wasn't a god but a mortal man who was so enanarmoured by his reflection that when he tried to get closer to river for a closer look, he fell in and drowned. This where the concept of narcisism comes from.
I always read that he just neglected to do anything other than stare at his reflection and try to woo it and thus didn't eat or sleep or anything and eventually faded away leaving only a flower behind.
Just as tragic as echo, she could only repeat.

"Go The Distance" is a very underrated Disney Song.
If you've never seen it, 'The Land Before Time' was very popular but also very dark for a kids movie.
16:46 it wasn't until i got older that i realized what that meant and now its my favorite line lol "somebody call IX I I" lol
James Wood made one of the funniest Disney villain w anger issues. :)
“Who knew Danny Devito could sing?”

Did you? If so, your boy awaits...😆
Regular people had contact with the Gods all the time in Greek Mythology. Medusa was the result of one of those encounters and such a sad story.
“The best thing since Narcissus found himself” might be the best joke ever in a Disney script.
Yes that is scar, it’s a callback to the lion king when zazu said he would make a very handsome throw rug .
Zazu lol
@@mistyxmarlboro bloody auto correct 😂
Interesting facts:
Disney originally planned to premiere Hercules at Pynx Hill in Athens, Greece, but the Greek government declined. Apparently Greek critics panned the movie for its inaccuracies and creative liberties.
The art direction and character design was done by English cartoonist Gerald Scarfe, most people nowadays know him as the animation director for “Pink Floyd’s The Wall”. If you look at his sketches of the Hercules characters, they REALLY do look like something from The Wall.
“Go the Distance” was nominated for an Oscar, but lost to “My Heart Will Go On” from Titanic. Other songs nominated were “Miss Misery” from Good Will Hunting, “How Do I Live” from Con Air, and “Journey to the Past” from Anastasia. This was the last Disney Renaissance film Alan Menken composed the music for.
Susan Egan was the voice of Meg, and she based Meg’s mannerisms on various actresses from vintage Hollywood who were known for being sassy dames.
Hercules was actually a Demi God because his mother was human. The part with Scar was a reference from the Lion King when Zazu said he would make a great throw rug.
It was also a reference to the Nemean lion. A lion that Hercules/Herakles famously skinned with its own claws as part of a series of trials. The fact that the reason for those trials couldn't have happened yet during the course of this movie can be put aside because its Disney, but the fact that he was posing with Scar like he was a cape or cowl is a reference to Hercules/Herakles famously wearing the Nemean lion's hide that way.
@@seanhewitt-mallet7143 It's more a reference to the lion king because the animators said that is what it is.
@@ronaldnelson6692 Well obviously its both, because that is clearly Scars carcass and Scar wasn't a lion that could only be torn by his own claws. But the way that Hercules is wearing it in his portrait is also a reference to the Nemean Lion.
@@seanhewitt-mallet7143 How is a lion a reference to a lion that is already in the story? Scar being a throw rug was a direct reference to Zazu saying he would make a great throw rug. Disney does that all the time. The chinaware from Cinderella in Tarzan, Sebastian from Little Mermaid in Alladin.
@@ronaldnelson6692 Except they didn't use that lion in the story. Things can be references to more than one thing.
It's a blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment, but during the Zero to Hero song, they show Hercules' parents still living at the farm, but now with a huge house attached that Herc paid for. Guy took care of his parents, like a true hero.
19:15
This is where the original ‘WHAT ARE THOSE’ came from 18 YEARS AGO!
Coincidence? I think NOT!!! 😂😂😂
Hercule’s parents did celebrate and had a whole building to themselves. 😂😂😂 19:02
They show Hercules' human parents twice once in the Hercules is a hero montage and at the very end his parents are with him and Meg.
As a Greek, this movie was peak childhood memories. Back when Disney was a real company!
Disney Pixar the best
To this day, I still love Meg 😂
Me too
Best Disney heroine.
Despite the fact that in mythology she actually did something that Hera been trying to do since Herakles was a baby...even if it was by accident
FunFact: Hercules is actually a Demi-God, because his birth-father is Zeus and his birth-mother is Alcmene according to Greek Mythology. Hera is Hercules' evil Step-Mother and the main villain, not Hades. they changed the story to give it that "Disney Magic"
Didn’t Zeus force himself on her or I’m i remembering wrong ?
Yep. Vain, murderous, incestuous…the Greek gods.
And Zeus r*#ped Alcmene as usual
Funfact: Hercules is actually the roman name, Heracles is his Greek name. I believe it was to try and appease Hera, but obviously it didn't work.
@@StormKing757 I didn't know that, the history channel didn't mention that or the books on Greek Mythology
"Get up on the hydra's back!"
Hades is voiced by the legendary James Woods. He did a lot of ad-libbing and also says Hades is one of his favorite roles ever. He always tries to come back for Hades roles (like in the Kingdom Hearts games, where a lot of the Disney characters were played by soundalikes instead of their original actors).
I just realized that 3 90s Disney movies have family as the heroes/villains: Simba/Scar, Hercules/Hades, Ariel/Ursula
Since when are Ariel and Ursula related? There is no mention of that in the film. It's not even suggested let alone stated outright.
Ursula lived with her brother King Triton in the castle at one point & they shared the rule of the sea halfway until she started using dark magic & Triton banished her. That’s why she’s so salty about Ariel & wants the rule of the ocean back & all to herself.
@@kingofbudokai In the original script Ursula was supposed to be Ariel's aunt and sister of Triton, then they changed it. Actually even in this movie Hades is never stated to be related to Zeus, they never call each other "brother".
Dammit Mary, one of the best parts has been edited out, that bit when Pain and Panic see Hades in the well of souls.
'Yer a BUM, Herc!'
Probably my favorite classic Disney film. Lots of interesting subversions of the typical roles despite being presented as a straightforward 'hero's journey'.
"Why would you want to be immortal when the love of your life ends up dying... and then you have to live the rest of time without her?"
Now I'm in the mood for a "Highlander" (1986) reaction
Yes! So underrated!
This is an absolute classic! This was my personal favorite as a kid.
Honestly this Disney movie gets overlooked a lot I think it's underrated especially for It soundtrack
Fun fact when hades says "it's only halftime" it was literally halfway in the movie
They showed his mortal parents again twice lol.
My gosh I've been watching this on VHS over and over 😅
Hades is voiced by the legendary James Woods. I cannot divorce his voice from my mental image of Hades. He's great.
He was good in 1989’s True Believer, as a real-life news reporter. Solid crime drama where he plays a good guy.
@@Divamarja_CA His live action work has always been secondary to me because he was Hades first in my mind lol. I remember seeing him in live action as a kid and realizing he was the voice of Hades. Probably started my career in voice acting because of it honestly.
During the zero to hero montage Hercules got his parents a giant house he took care of them.
This movie is even FUNNIER when you learn about the actual original stories behind the Greek Pantheon, and how dark and twisted the gods were, especially Hera. Heracles (Hercules for Americans) in particular is VERY tragic, you can see why he was used as inspiration for Kratos from God Of War.
This is one of my FAVORITE Disney movies of all-time ever since I first saw it when I was little and I'm now almost 31 years old now 😂😂😂
"Olympus would be that way" is still my favourite line in the movie
0:27 - FERRIC OXIDE [FE2O3] - What a striking hair colour. Looks amazing.
My favourite Disney movie of all time !! Got a banger soundtrack , no family member needs to die or dissappear, got great character progression aaaaand I love the antagonist 🎉
Naming the love interest after a Greek City (Megara) and then shortening it to the regular name "Meg" is probably my favorite Disney two-step.
Yes, fun facts about this Hercules movie James wood says hades is his favourite character he’s ever portrayed, also where Hades says “it’s only half time” it’s actually halfway through the actual movie and then you see a lion rug of scar from the Lion King then were the muses are singing in the garden as the heads that to call back to the haunting mansion ride, there’s also a great video by Jason M. Legrair where he breaks down all the songs from the movie in better depth.
Hades was actually not the bad guy, as per Mythology, it was her "step-mom", Hera.
And Hercules is the roman version of Heracles, who was actually greek.
So there were a lot of differences (like with Mulan) but this is probably my favorite Disney animated movie.
In Greek Myth, Hades isn’t actually evil like most media portray him to be, like he’s equivalent to devil. He took the role of the underworld out of necessity.
Anybody else notice that both times in this movie where they cut away to mortal parents she was looking away from the screen and proceeded to mention never getting to see them again 😂😂😂😂
Whenever I see someone who has reacted to this movie, I watch it❤ Hercules is my all-time favorite Disney movie, this and beauty and the beast
There were a few underrated Disney animated movies that came out around during Hercules' time. Tarzan, The Emperor's New Groove, Atlantis: The Lost Empire, and Treasure Planet just to name a few. Hope you get to react to those if you haven't seen them yet.
The fates in this movie are actually based on 2 Greek myths: the actual Fates, who cut the threads of human souls when their time is up.
And the Phorcides, who share a single eye and tooth between them.
James Woods as Hades is casting perfection.
i love how achilles has the dumbest reason why his weakness is his heel
"Meg, Meg, Meg, my sweet, deluded little MINION. Aren't we forgetting one teensey-weensey, but ever-so-crucial, little, tiny detail? I OWN YOU!!!!!!!"
This is why Hades is my favorite Disney Villain.
Not sure if you caught it, but not only did Hercules set his mortal parents up for life during the Zero to Hero sequence, but he reuinites with then during the A Star is Born Segment, at the ending!
No matter how desperately he wanted to go to Olympus, he never forgot the parents who raised him!
From Diggstown to John Carpenter's Vampires James Woods is a talented actor. I also loved how Scar was the lion pelt he wore lol
14:54: "Two Skunks on their way to Disneyland" in German🇩🇪 Version 😂
The narrator at the beginning was Charlton Heston, and the Muses are the Supremes (minus Diana Ross).
James Woods has voiced Hades in everything Disney had the character in. The Hercules TV show, the _Kingdom Hearts_ games, Mickey's House of Mouse, etc.
In Greek mythology, Hercules married Meg, and had children with her, but then Zeus's wife cursed him with madness which caused him to kill his entire family.
Quick synopsis of the Greek myth around Hercules (aka Heracles):
Hercules is a demi-god. Son of Zeus and a mortal woman named Alcmene. Hera, Zeus' wife (and older sister Greek mythology is weird) is angry by Zeus cheating on her and vows revenge on the child. Alcmene in an attempt to make peace with Hera names her child Heracles but the most popular spelling is Hercules, which means (Hera's glory or Glory of Hera). Hercules grows super strong and does some great deeds. He marries Megara (aka Meg from this movie) and they have I think three children with her. Hera drives Hercules into an insane rage, which results in him killing his wife and children. As penance for the killing of his family Hercules is given 12 impossible labors which he must complete. He does and in completing these labors he becomes the most famous of the Greek heroes.
“I wish it would cut back to the mortal parents” proceeds to be too busy jamming to the gospel music to notice both instances of that happening lol
I love the Rocky comparisons you made. I never thought of that! Made me love this movie even more! Thank you! lol
You're welcome!😇
The part where Hades has to direct the titans to Olympus always cracked me up as a kid, still does😂
Thank God Herculad came in clutch
One of my all time favorite Disney animated films is The Hunchback of Notre Dame. If you haven’t watched it Mary, I highly recommend it. Also, love your movie reactions, been watching your channel content nonstop.

The "If"-bit is a reference to when Phillip of Macedon sent a message to the spartan army, saying that if he is to march his army into Sparta, he would absolutely annihilate them. The Spartans, the warrior-society known for being the founders of one-liners through the art of laconic speech, sent a reply with the word "IF".
I have a strange connection to this movie. My old doctor (who is now retired) had a brother who was a movie producer and was invited to go to the premiere for this movie. Their father went with him and at one point convinced Jennifer Aniston (who was dating Tate Donovan, the actor voicing adult Hercules) to dance with him. I got to hear the story when I noticed a picture in the office of Jennifer Aniston and his Dad posing for a pic :)
If I'm not mistaken hercules was the first Disney movie that tested and used 3D into the film which was used when he fought the hydra
I like that she looked away right as the was celebrating with his human family.
Meg has the best voice and just the right amount of sass ❤
If I had a nickel for every time Danny DeVito played a version of a character popularized by Burgess Meredith, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.
Legendary 8-time Oscar winner Alan Menken scored the film. He won 2 Oscars EACH for THE LITTLE MERMAID (1989), BEAUTY AND THE BEAST (1991), ALADDIN (1992), and POCAHONTAS (1995), winning Score and Song for each. This man has been instrumental in the Disney Rennaissance in the 90s.
He’s one of the biggest reasons 90s Disney is the golden age of Disney
If I had a nickel for every time Mary said she wanted to see what happened to Herc’s parents then immediately missed it by closing her eyes to groove to the music I’d have two nickels.
Which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice.
When Hades said relax it's only HALF TIME. It actually was at the half way mark of the movie.
Zeus' voice is provided by Rip Torn - who you may remember from Dodgeball - he's Patches the foul mouthed trainer!
& Aphrodite is Lisa Kudrow (Aka Phoebe from Friends)
It was cute how you cheered on Hercules and Megara at the end.
Hope she doesn't look up what Herc does to Meg and his children.
@@foxsolid That's not something I remember from the tv show or the Hades game. (One google check later.) Well that's because Hera did a spell/curse/or whatever. He went to Hades to go get them back. Something something 12 labors, etc.
1:33 that giggle was cute
Another brilliant reaction Mary ❤❤😁😁.
Yeah, this was nothing like actual Greek mythology, which is not surprising. Zeus was effectively the main villain in a lot of the stories and if it wasn't him then it was his long-suffering wife Hera trying to mess things up. Generally, Hercules had a pretty tragic life.
Mulan 1 & 2, Beauty & The Beast, Aladdin 1,2 & 3, SpaceJam (Just The O.G. With Micheal Jordan), The Little Mermaid 1 & 2, The Lion King 1 & 2 (Seriously I've Always Felt 2: Simba's Pride Is A Forgotten Gem And Just Beautiful) Ferngully, Balto, The Swan Princess, The Land Before Time & The Jetsons Movie.... Just For A Few Of The Most Incredible Animations Of The 80's & 90's 😁
I'm glad you decided to watch this Mary I love this movie 🙂
I think the real Herc deleted his wife and children while under the influence of a maddening curse.
They hired the art director from Pink Floyd's The Wall to get the character's distinctive design look.
Yes that was Scar from Lion King used to clean up Phil's face. There is a tiny bit more of Hades post-credits.
Herc's adopted parents were at the end, you had your head turned while you were dancing.
Pain & Panic were voiced by Matt Frewer (Max Headroom) and Bob Golthwait (Police Academy 2-3)
Lilo & Stitch is another animated film with distinctive character designs. The Prince of Egypt is a good non-Disney one with great music.
Skipping rocks is really easy. All you need is a slim rock and then throw it as hard as you can and as flat as you can if that makes sense. You have to barely skim the water. Imagine your throwing a tiny frisbee on the water you don't wanna just toss it at the water the air will catch it. You want it to glide on the surface
It’s such a weird and inspired choice to make the Greek siren chorus a gospel trio lmao
Love this goofy aaa movie
Mickey in Rocky was Meredith Burgess, AKA the Penguin. Phil in Hercules is Danny DeVito, AKA the Penguin.
By the Gods, we all need to hear that Mickey Voice inside, from time to time!

Burt Young, who played Paulie in the Rocky franchise, was actually trained by Cus D'Amato (who trained Floyd Patterson and Mike Tyson) and went 17-0 as a professional.
According to Wikipedia: Young served a tour of duty in the United States Marine Corps from 1957 to 1959. While in the Marine Corps, he won 32 of 34 boxing bouts. He later turned pro and compiled a 17-0 record under three different aliases. His manager was Cus D'Amato. 🇺🇸🥊
Pain is voiced by Bobcat Goldthwait, who is best known for playing Zed in the Police Academy franchise and also played the Adrenal Gland in the Epcot attraction Cranium Command at the now-defunct Wonders of Life pavellion.
