    The pack says it is 400cal which is 20% of your 2000 cal daily intake. It is no wonder it is so small. As you get older your metbolism slows down and you don't need a whole lot of food, so for some this wwould be adequate with a pudding, e.g. Rice Pudding (1 tin = 300 cal). Most people eat too much all the time, what with a sedentary life style most people just add to their fat levels.
    As a meal it doesn';t look bad. Your review of the Asda JE Roast Beef (£1) with some JE frozen veggies (85p = 1Kg), roasties (75p = 750g) JE frozen yorkshire pud (50p) would serve just as well. If you bought 3 of the beef slices you spend £5 and have 3 meals.

    Good review Gareth some of these meals are good, some yuk. Always good to have these meals in the freezer in case you get snowed in or feeling unwell. Or return home from work too tired to cook. Impossible for families as way too dear. But for one it’s ok. I’m now a “senior citizen” and spend way more time preparing food than I used to when younger so I think it depends on circumstances rather than age.

    Have you ever considered doing a complete frozen Sunday Roast special? You could buy all the parts of the meal, a frozen pre prepared joint, some frozen roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings and frozen veg and any other trimmings. I'm sure you could work out how much it would cost roughly per potion, or how much it would be to feed a family of four. Would interesting to see if it cost less then the roast dinner for one.

    • @stevewhitcher6719
      @stevewhitcher6719 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      When i lived on my own, and i didnt have much money I used to love a roast. So what i did was i used to do is buy a bernard mathews roast, roast a load of potatos , and eat 1 portion of it for my sunday dinner. Then cut up the the roast, wrap each slice in foil, and freeze them and the roast potatos. Then susquent sundays i would pop a fews slices of the roast, and the potatoes in the oven, and microwave a carot to go with them and make some gravy. It saved alot of time, didnt cost very much and meant i could have a proper roast on a sunday. sometimes i even bought those frozen but raw yorkshire puddings! They cook from strach rather than reheat. More recently ( as i do like my roasts) i will freeze cut up roast meat, (or meat loaf) and when i fancy a roast use that, some ready made frozen roast potatoes and microwave some frozen veg to go with it. Ideal for a roast dinner for 1 mid week.

    I used to like the aldi chicken dinner thst comes in a giant yorkshire. But they seem to have swapped out some of the chicken for carrots. Presumably to make it cheaper. There's no mention on the front of carrots its just tucked away in the ingredients. But there's way more in than the ingredients list suggests. There was absolutely loads in it. If youve had it before and know what its like it might be worth trying it again. Maybe i got one where theyd added carrots by mistake. I liked them because they werent bulked out with veg as i can do my own veg.

    The only thing good about these ready meal roast dinners is that they are great for weight loss. Im going to have one 3 nights a week as im trying to shed 20 pounds in January.
    They worked for me before, though i quite like the Bisto one, £2.80 in Sainsburys. Give it a go if youre in the feeezer section, its actually quite decent!

    I like these as a quick meal when I cannot be bothered to cook. Always cooked in the oven. It’s the only type of ready meal I like. They are all much of a much although I steer clear of the really cheap ones as the beef is not as nice.

    To escape possible steam burn when removing the film after cooking just slice a big hole in it. For what you would pay at a cafe for something similar It is probably not bad value. Handy for the freezer when your a bit stuck, shift work, or just a single wanting a Sunday dinner without all the fuss. Would need a bit of bread mind.

    These ready meals tend to taste a bit synthetic and processed - especially the meat! They are meant to feed one, but don’t!

    Would love you to go get the too good to go app for your phone and pickup a Toby Roast Carvery.. they are currently £3.49 to compare the roasts. Pickup around 21:30 but could eat next day. I know what I think is far better value. 🙂

    Tesco are good for deals Gaz if you go after 5pm i got a Pepperoni Pizza for £1 reduced from £2.50p and i got 12 samosas for £1.20p reduced from £3 and another good deal loaf of bread 28p reduced from £1.20p , No idea why people pay the full prices just go in the evening and save yourself a few quid each day. Anyway im not a fan of those packet meal beef or chicken dinners they are only good if your ona night shift and only have a microwave but in that case the morrisons one can only be done in an oven so expensive lol
