I am a Lidl fan as it has a good bakery and teh shop is a reasonable size so takes shorter time to find all the items I want. I then look down the middle aisles and buy all sorts of tools and garden bits. Yes , good value for a pie. Glad you liked it.

I dont buy at Lidl simply because they treat their staff much worse than Aldi does. From working conditions to pay its much worse at Lidl. Otherwise theyre just equally bad companies pressuring small suppliers like farmers into horrible dumping prices. But thats just the norm these days. Nothing we can do other than directly buy from the farmers.

When I was kid, you could get dripping from the butcher.
As you say on toast or just spread on plain bread with a little salt, yummy.

    • @KezzaTianzun
      @KezzaTianzun 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Well its 1264 calories per pie. Each lb of fat equates to 3500 calories. Assuming a daily calorie expenditure for a sedentery lazy man at about 2200cal/day (2000 for woman) You would have to consume 14,000 calories over your maintenance to gain 4lbs of fat. So for an average sized man thats about 16,200 cal in 1 sitting or 12.8 of these pies.

Silicon sheet rolls from Amazon. They last for a long time, and protect your backing trays and airfryers, micorowaves etc. LIDL Frikadellens. Ready cooked sausage meat and nicer and cleaner than bangers - microwave in 1minute. Fried brekkie, or with chips and beans, or with mash and onion gravy, green peas or cabbage and beans

very tempted by your review . Could not find the pie but picked up one pie that looked identical. it was however significantly more expensive at £3.90. It might be they have dropped the one that you reviewed which seems too cheap compared with similar pies from other super markets.
The differences that i noticed quickly with the pie that i bought was it seems to be already cooked , it is 10% heavier at 500 grams. and the beef dripping is missing., and the cooking time is less at 30 minutes and of course the price is a lot more.
I have not yet cooked it yet but thought that i would make this early review to let others know that it might have been withdrawn perhaps mistakenly offered too cheap.

A great looking pie for £2.69. It would do me two meals once I add some mash and some veggies. Beef dripping will really bring out the flavour of the meat. You had my mouth watering with this one m8 🤤🤤😋
And best of all ? I have a Lidl’s within a few minutes walk from home.
Up until recently I did do quite a bit of shopping at the Co-Op local. Now I’m beginning to get more active I will be doing my shopping in Lidl. Co-Op prices have become ridiculous. On one visit to Lidl per week to stock up with the usual items for me, dog and cat food, treats for them etc ? I reckon I saved about £50. I can’t believe how prices compare.
I’ve always done my main shopping in either Lidl or Aldi. I know people who wouldn’t shop in either store as they think cheap prices gets you cheap products but I disagree. Plus I love the weekly promotions based on various countries, like Greek foods, Polish foods, French and Italian foods.
    Anyway I’m waffling on again.
Great review Gareth keep them coming.

A friend's husband is the Director of a food production company that makes ready meals for various supermarkets. His exact comment was .... "None of the production staff shop at Aldi, Lidl, Iceland etc which should tell you everything about the contents". I do know they use a lot of fillers and chemical additives. I love to cook so usually batch freeze homemade otherwise, the only ready pies we eat are from Cook.

LOL watching.... eek- the dreaded palm oil and rapeseed oil in there again. 26% beef. wow... pushing the envelope there (not).... as a side line, I love these warnings: Today I bought some peanut butter, and the allergens included "may contain traces of nuts". Yep, that's nuts! Mostly pastry... but you seem to be enjoying so I can't knock it.Except for the low fill as ever with these pies.

Making the gravy with dripping/lard and flour to make a roux, the darker the roux the better the flavour. You have to be abit careful as when you remove the roux from the heat the carry over can cause the flour to have a burnt taste, I take mine off the heat when it is the colour of peanut butter and let carry over cooking finish the job. plenty of videos on youtube that explain the process fully if you want to learn.
Thanks for the review, take care, God bless one and all.

I had this about 10 days ago, and I thought it was lovely and really tasty. Had plenty of meat and was almost like the pastry was suet based.

I have now cooked the pie that looked the same as the one cooked by the Foodi (£ but 3.90). I cooked it my air fryer according to the instructions for a fan heated oven. The results : the top too crispy, The meat was good quailty but arguably not enough, the gravy in my opinion was too sweet and not a meaty flavour more of a fruity taste.
The crisp top wasnt burnt and I could have avoided by covering with aluminium foil at some stage. but The flavour of the gravy I am sure will not be liked by many like myself.
So far I have recently tried Sainnburys Steak and ale pie £4 . Asdas Guarmet pie £5 and the Lidl and decided that the Sainsburys one is the best for me.

Today is a shopping day, as we near to Lidl i went in to see if I could find the £2.99 pie that i couldnt see last time I was in there. Surprisingly there is a £2.99 pie again similar to the one reviewed and the £.3.99 pie but it is different , It is cooked unlike the one reviewed . It is steak and gravy .
The cooking ( heating )temperature is 160 degrees. Curiosity took over and I bought one to
check if I could get the same result as Foody. the gravy is described as beef and onion, which for me will be better. If it does cook as the one reviewed. It could be my pie of choice for value for money.

I love lidls food especially the different cuisines they show case each week such as Spanish, Greek, Italian, Thia etc. You could spend a little time trying out the different cuisines on your channel. I stopped shopping at Asda because of the hike in food prices, and I now get to taste world foods into the bargain. I'm saving money each week and each month qualify for 10 per cent of my shop, as they say every little helps

nice revealing review! Oh yes. Compared with the obvious reference, the classic tinned fray bentos jobbie, I think this looks like a decent ready-made meal.

Excellent value in comparison with the M&S Tom Kerridge £7 pie. [You can buy 5 Lidl's pies for the price of an M&S one]

I'm always wary of being disappointed by bought pies, but this looks good. And TBH if you take a bite of pie and think: there's dripping - there's probably too much! Cheers as ever mate.

A pie, lord 'elp as a whopper 😋. As a factory made, mass turned out item. I'll give it 8.75😄just a tiny bit more filling 10 nay bother😊 But as it goes value for the price. Gareth, a good find. A good basic meal add bit of this&that (peas, beans, mashed potatoes or chips) some of them, not all. Thanks mate, keep 'em coming. 🤤Drooling is the only excrcise I get nowadays and watching you makes it more entertaining Cheers Pal Allan&Family
