    I've noticed that Bisto, Youngs and Heinz have not kept up with the nations more developed taste buds. They used to be good, but they have fallen behind so much against other much, much cheaper brands, that are providing a more nutritious, tastier and healthier option in ready meals. I bought a Bisto lasagne and a shepherds pie, they were tragic, even their gravy does not stand up to supermarkets own brands now. Tescos do little ready meals of shepherds pie, macaroni cheese, hot pot etc. for arond 70-80 pence, they are better than Bisto. Thank you so much for proving what I have been thinking. Your videos are great, people go too much by named products without even trying the options

      My elderly aunt has Asda frozen ready meals and they are really nice. Decent portions too for the smallish appetite. They are £1.50 each which means with a nice buttered roll or an extra serving of veg, she gets a full hot meal for £2.00. The Bisto ones are truly awful.

    Gareth, I used to work nights and I would have one of these ready meals at least once a week sometimes twice and I found that the best way to deal with them was to allow them to defrost for a couple of hours before cooking them and then when I took the stuffing ball out, I would take the potatoes and cut them in halves and separate them as far apart as possible, even to the point of placing them on a plate outside of the plastic dish. Then cook according to the packaging. I have to say that when available I would use a conventional oven for a much better result but in light of your review and the price of the meal I think that I am unlikely to have one in the future.

      It contains 41% of your daily salt intake!
      Why did you not use your Ninja? Maybe the roasties would have been better?
      That sea of gloopy dark brown gravy didn't look at all appetising either 🤤
      You should write a letter of complaint to the manufacturer with a link to your video - it might make them take notice.
      It was a very fair review and you followed the instructions - so you would have a reasonable expectation it would reach the standard expected from a brand name.
      Zero was a generous score 😛

    Open the potatoe compartment either put sesame oil or garlic oil on the potatoes before cooking .Always take the Yorkshire pudding out if doing beef dinner and cook for four mins .I always have success when cooked in the oven lower temp for longer for crispy garlic roast spuds .Buy it again it works every time for me.Beefs and lamb dinners are best,mum loves them and she moans for England!

    With all the will in the world, roast spuds cannot be replicated in a microwave meal. Chicken and everything else looked good though. They should swap out the roasties for something else. A yorkshire pud maybe. Cheers for review. These are sometimes informative and sometimes confirming what we know.

    I've not had this one before Gaz... I sometimes have frozen ready meals in the freezer for lazy days or emergencies... But last year i did try the Bisto Roast Beef Dinner version... Just to see if it was better than the cheaper frozen dinners I've had before... Like the 400g Kershaws Roast Beef Dinner for £1.75... And to be honest mate... The 400g Bisto Roast Beef Dinner version didn't really impress me either... It looks like they're upping the overall weight to 450g (Probably with more Gravy)... Once again shoppers are paying extra for the Bisto brand name... There's way better and cheaper frozen ready meals out there my friend... I'll definitely give this one a miss buddy... Thanks for the review Gaz... Cheers mate. 🍺

    Hi Gareth, new subscriber here 👋🏻 the cheap stuffing you are referring to is the Paxo Sage and Onion Stuffing but all the supermarkets have their own brand now. What I like doing is making up the Paxo with boiling hot water then adding raw sausage meat to it, salt and pepper to taste, mix all together, put it in a roasting tin and cook along side your roast dinner in the oven then slice it up when ready. Beautiful 😊

    • @BaldFoodieGuy

    • @anjizetland-von-kiesel3346
      @anjizetland-von-kiesel3346 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Try mixing one packet of sausage meat ( you can use cheap sausages for this and obviously take the skins off), one packet of sage and onion stuffing (again any cheap brand, made up but not cooked) and one cooking apple peeled, cored and grated. Mix it all together and make it into a pie with shortcrust pastry. Can be eaten hot or cold.

    Does anyone remember a frozen Birds Eye food called "Brunchies"? They looked like a fishcake, but inside there was, I think scrambled egg with bits of bacon, sausage and also small pieces of chopped tinned type tomato's covered in bread crumbs. Now that was a schoolboy favourite. Maybe late 70's early 80's. Bloody lovely.

    i feel that i have to jump in here. fist, brilliant channel and a lovely bloke.
    right, i eat loads of chicken dinners from aldi and morrisons, morrisons 2 minutes away aldi 4 minutes away, and in my experience, the bisto dinner from morrisons is miles superior from any other than that i have tried. with these dinners, you must cook them in the oven like you would a normal roast dinner and only pierce the film leave the stuffing in and 15 minutes from the end take the film off to crisp or brown up the potatoes and chicken skin.
    if you must warm them in the mw do exactly the same adjusting for time etc.
    you must remember, an oven cooks, a mw just warms.

    • @BaldFoodieGuy
      @BaldFoodieGuy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      cheers Ivor, my grandads name that. Yes best cooked in the oven, but convenience and time is microwave and for me on nights on security with no oven im expecting better. Aldi and Iceland was spot on done in the microwave. Cheers.

    Processed foods ! Great vid ! We cooked the Aldi ones in the oven ie Chicken/beef and cook up a selection of extra veg ie Broccoli et with a few new potatoes 👍Aldi also do a really acceptable LASAGNE. Decent mid size one for two of you plus throw in your garlic bread and away you go! (Add broccoli with spring onions as a side dish )👍We have a Sharp combination oven that is brilliant re ALL types of cooking. These instant meals cook really well in it. 180 degrees for 35mins ! 👀👍Your Bisto meal was cooked via microwave, the ones cooked in the oven are much better !

    Enjoyed the vlog Gareth never eaten a meal like that but being Bisto should be good. Bet the meal is double the price now! Picture on the box looks good it actually looked ok shame the potatoes were horrid.. These meals are good for people on there own, old people. shift workers like you use to be so there is a place for the meals. I only do yorkshire pudding with a roast beef dinner but know up north way people have yorkshires with every roast meal. Thank you for the vlog Gareth.

    Hi Gareth.maybe if you had done the spuds in the air fryer they'd have been a bit more palatable.Im a vegan and wish I could have the odd ready meal but sadly there's not too many about.The meal did look awful tho.x

    I'm glad I didn't waste 50 bob on that, Gaz! Perhaps you can investigate what's available in Herons and Farm Foods these days?
    I haven't been 'proper' shopping since October.

    Hi . I've had these a few times . I always ignore cooking instructions on these type of foods and do it differently. Roast potatoes, stuffing , Yorkshire puddings take out and put in oven . Then put chicken in microwave. Much better . If u know what I mean 😁👍

    Yep your spot on about those potatoes. Taste like cardboard as well. Me I find the gravy a bit too salty for me.
    In the old days a used to like the blue coloured box of Iceland rather then the Golders version ( which was dearer) Taste was the difference.

    Hey Gareth hope you’re well. Nahh I wouldn’t waste my money on it at all either. I don’t like “roast potatoes” done or reheated in a microwave or the vegetables for that matter. I’m not keen on the yucky stuffing you get with those things. What you’re paying for is the Bisto name and according to that meal it’s fit for the bin. Fatty chicken skin is rank, I like mine crispy too. Good review again Gareth you’re saving folks the money.
    All the best and stay safe 😘 xxx
