I have been sunlight-conscious for a while, and have been wearing sunscreen since the age of 15, and I still have redness, i always thought this was normal or just sunburn, I didn’t even know this was considered discoloration, wow

Dr. Idriss. Thank you for this content. I am an Haitian-American, U.S. born woman. Age 41. I used a cream product over my eyes that caused severe hyperpigmentation around my eyes. I accidentally caused this discoloration around my eyes myself. I visited a dermatologist and the young dermatologist (native of India), tried gaslighting me by saying “No. That’s not the reason you have discoloration. It’s due to genetics and race.” I explained No. I had an allergic reaction and hyperpigmentation formed but this doctor refused to believe me. Instead he suggested I try treating my discoloration by purchasing a cream on Amazon with the caffeine ingredient. This young doctor was probably 23/ 24 at best. He wouldn’t even look at my skin in depth. You are providing more info that is helpful than what this dermatologist Dr provided me. Thank you.
If you have access to a Dr of color they may be able to prescribe a hydroquinone compound if the discoloration was a reaction, you want to do this as soon as possible. If the cream the Dr suggested had hydroquinone that could work however this has been banned from OTC in the US in 2021 so unlikely. Other ingredients may work but hydroquinone is the most efficacious. You should only use it for 3 to 4 months stop for same time then restart, ideally at night. Blackdermdirectory is a great resource for this. Good luck.

A most likely very silly question that has been bugging me... Why does the major fade reduce discoloration but doesn't change skin color given that it's also based on melanin production?
Science. That’s the best I got.
Your skin color is determined by your genetics. That's the normal amount of melanin your skin produces.
Discoloration happens due to (more often than not) external factors or stress to the skin. Any product will/can only help reduce that 'excessive' pigmentation by cutting down the activity of over active cells and bringing it back to your natural skin color. Hope this clears your doubt a little!

I have both red and brown on my cheeks. When ai use a product like your depuffer that helps the redness I see the area of treatment looks brown. Never a normal cheek color. Otherwise I have fair skin. Yes I am under a Derms care

I think a lot of us would love for you to clear up how we use the flash mask overnight. Do we put anything on top of it? Also, how do we layer the depuffer with other products?
If you can tolerate it overnight, it's safe to use
Use a soothing moisturizer with it
The depuffer can be used in the serum stage

Also, retinoids can help to an extent

Define organic. Glycolic acid is from sugar cane, lactic acid is from milk, azelaic acid is from yeast etc.
