I have a 68 vibrolux reissue. The vintage channel is based off of the vibrolux and the custom channel is a bassman. I’ve been using it to record bass through the custom channel with my 70’s reissue jazz bass when I want the tube amp sounds and its killer. I also have a solid state bass amp and will record direct in, just depends on the situation.
6g6 and the Selmer mk2, dang the selmer is great. OR120 too... The string definition, as in the pluck, is very in focus on the Selmer without being fizzy or like a little spike of treble like so many of the others. Could maybe use a little mid boost, but overall pretty awesome.
Excellent comparison! This time we can hear the fundamental also. Yes , agreed. The Fender 6g6-b and the Selmer Mk 11 are excellent . Detail and warmth together. Also liked the Fender silverface and Vox AC30. Gosh the Marshalls are dark and dirty. I'm wondering now whether I can cope with the difficulties of a valve amp. Do love that amp/speaker interreaction one gets with valves.
Ha ha. Man, I love that Matamp. So girthy. Still, the Hiwatt has a bit of woodiness in it that sounds phenomenal. I'm a bit let down by the Ampeg V-4B, but I guess it's silly to expect it to be an SVT. Thanks for the samples.
+keith ruddell You're welcome. The fact that there's not too many bass amp comparisons inspired me to record this. I'm now (finally) working on the 3rd part. Hope this helps you. Cheers!
+Oystein Haugen Most of the amps on the video were borrowed for the shoot. But I did have a T90 few years ago. It was from the first patch with a serial number #99. It was really good sounding and versatile amp. And with a decent price back then (I paid 850€ and it was NEW). I didn't like the factory tubes so I changed them. Don't remeber what I had in the preamp but in the power amp I had a pair of Gold Lion KT88's which are my favorite KT88's currently produced. I had nothing to complain about the sound and it had enough volume for small venues. Little distorted if played louder. Honestly I think that the one on this video didn't sound as good as my old one. It also seems to be a little different than the one I had (at least different filter capasitor placement). You can check out the tones of my old T90 from a video called "Bass amp comparison". Cheers! edit. And tonewise it's kinda modern but has a lot of tube warmness. With the active EQ you can get wide range of tones. To me classic amps is kinda wide range of tones.
+TKaimapoika Nice! How does it compare sound-wise to the class D amp heads like the Tonehammer and the Reidmar? How "loud" does the T90 get? What can you compare it to? How loud does a 90watts bass tube amp sound?
Sample was played by Robin Everhart. He recorded it and sent the file to me. I bet he told me his setup, but I can't remember it anymore. Have to look for that info.
damn son, that hiwatt sounds so good!

The AC30 bass and the selmer mkii are very nice.
VOX is amazing... I was really surprised when I first heard it. Amazing!

6G6-B Fender is superb!

Both Matamp and Hiwatt are great all around amps! Personally I don't prefer SVT. Great amp but not my cup of tea.
The Vox ac30 was a surprise. Sounded very good. :)
It's an amazing AND underrated bass amp! After shooting this I was looking for a AC30 head.
Just found this. Thanks so much for your time! Gotta go with the silverface!
wow what a treat. thank you so much for sharing. i'm in the market for an amp to contrast my Heritage B15. perhaps a Bassman 100t.

look forward to it friend. enjoy your day.
Fender Silverface Bassman!
The silverface Bassman 100 sounded buzzy like a bad tube or something. Loved the blonde and blackface bassman amps too.
We didn't get the tone we wanyed from that silverface. :(
my favorite was probably the Fender 6G6-B Bassman
keith ruddell after that maybe OR120 and V4B
+keith ruddell That's one of my favorite ones too. And the Selmer mk II!!! Sound killer.
you used the bass instrument channel on the blonde bassman like the picture shows?
+shwashwa Yes I did. All the pics are taken from the actual recording session. So you can even see how the pots were dialed.
Hi! Do you still have the EBS T90? I would love to hear your honest opinion on it. How does it compare to the classic amps?

It's loud enough with a good cab. Can't really compare it to those class D heads as I haven't used them for years.
At what volume levels did you record the ac 30 ?
Great video
On the clean samples... It was kinda silent. Doesn't have that much clean headroom.
Hi, what bass did you use for this? and what strings? sounds like flats, but what brand?
Great vids btw! cheers! x

What cab was used?
Hiwatt 4x12" with 2 Celestion Sidewinders and 2 Weber Bass 12" speakers.
Fender 6G6 and Hiwatt DR 201 were the best. The current Orange AD200b sucked. The V4B had too much distortion and was floppy.
