For me it’s a tie between the Hiwatt PA setup and the silver face Bassman. All the amps sounded great in their own unique ways though

I own a Super Bassman, and in person that thing has a drive channel like no other. I liked all your amps, but this video didn't do the Super Bassman justice.

The Vox ac30 was a surprise. Sounded very good. :)

Several amps were distorted, especially the 300w Fender Bassman and the Ampeg V4. I have often heard the Ampeg V4 sound much better than that. By design, this experiment is invalid and will only mislead llsteners.

That 1971 Hiwatt DR 201 and the 1982 Marshall jcm 800 2231 sound amazing. Picturing a vintage Rickenbackers bass with it

Th3 Marshall Super bass amps sound so nice.I never understood why they never exploited the bass market more.

Best is ampeg V-4b. I love that some farty and crunchy tone! But marshall Jmp was good too.

The EBS, Orange and Hiwatt sounded the best, clear and punchy. I can't stand when a tube bass amp is farty and soft like the sound city and the marshall. At that point you might as well go direct in

I have a 68 vibrolux reissue. The vintage channel is based off of the vibrolux and the custom channel is a bassman. I’ve been using it to record bass through the custom channel with my 70’s reissue jazz bass when I want the tube amp sounds and its killer. I also have a solid state bass amp and will record direct in, just depends on the situation.

Hiwatt, then the '63 bassman, then the V4B are my top 3 in order.

Hiwatt on all tests for me. Sounded the best. Amp 2 was a close second

listened through daw and headphones -- none suck, lots are good, but the Hiwatt DR201 is perfect.

Do you know what circuit has de Fender bassman 100? I had been looking in the interent for that information but i can´t find it?

That bass sounds like my StingRay. Incredible video, man. Really showcased the sounds of the decades and the technological changes through the decades. Takes a ton of work to shoot a video like this, with great sound. Great work!

6g6 and the Selmer mk2, dang the selmer is great. OR120 too... The string definition, as in the pluck, is very in focus on the Selmer without being fizzy or like a little spike of treble like so many of the others. Could maybe use a little mid boost, but overall pretty awesome.

The AC30 bass and the selmer mkii are very nice.

Hiwatt 1971 dr201 is definitely number one! After that I'd say the first "pics only" Orange

The 1971 HiWatt DR201 (200 Watts, at 8:16) and the 2013 Monster El Monarca bass (300 Watts, at 11:29) stood out for me. The sound is clear due to a good midrange tone, there's a beautiful, punchy low end (the entire frequency response is actually very balanced) and as a consequence you hear the bass guitar that is plugged in. The early 70ies Silverface Fender Bassman (100 Watts, at 2:28) was also nice. In comparison, the 2013 Fender Super Bassman (300 Watts, at 3:00) sounded terrible due to an overpronounced midrange. That warm bass tone of the Silverface is missing completely.

The silverface Bassman 100 sounded buzzy like a bad tube or something. Loved the blonde and blackface bassman amps too.

Were you using any effects, or was the bass direct into the amp. What type of bass? Just noting the gritty tone. Thanks

This vid is sorely missing the Sunn Beta bass, the Concert bass and their biggest beast called the Collisium bass. 350 watts! And you forgot Acoustic,probably the most bottom end and warmth and best sounding bass amps of the late 60s and 70s. no one remembers or talks about. Amazing epic subsonic tone. John Paul Jones and Billy Cox both player them. Check out Acoustics bass tone on you tube for yourself and you will be a believer..,.....
