    What an awesome and intense thriller. This is the best match i've ever seen by Shiono. Some fantastic rallies and beautiful skills from the Japanese. Dima absolutely played at his limit. Both are in a fantastic shape this time.
    Thanks for sharing ;)

    This reminds me of old matches, of the 38mm ball and speed glue, Sriver, Mark V and 729. When consistency and variation ruled as much as power and speed. Rallies were much longer, the ball didn't drop as fast so short and long pips were easier to use, and players were taught to control the ball with 1.0-1.5mm rubber.
    This match is the best I've seen in a while, because it boiled down to a game with simple rules- be more consistent than the opponent, don't rush, keep a level head. Ovtcharov couldn't easily overpower Shiono, and Shiono couldn't easily chop Ovtcharov to death- a true game of skill.

    Leading 9-6 in the seventh game, I really thought MS will win. CONGRATS!!! to both players for a very fun-tastic and enjoyable match. I hope MS would play more tournaments so we can watch him more often.

    One of the fiercest attack VS one of the sturdiest defense! Like hitting the hardest shield with the hardest sword. What an outcome! Tho I still can't enjoy one quiet match with Ovtcharov yet. But Shiono! What a player!

    Dima is weak against choppers but he got over that in this match. Damn great and gutsy performance in the end. #1 european indeed.
    At 6-9 down in final set, he was still attacking like crazy. Credits to shiono for keeping the ball in play.

    In my opinion If Ovtcharov had chosen the classical tatics of service against long pips ( long on the bakhand side or short on the forehand side) he would have won much more easily. His services variations with side spins actually played againts him.
    The other player didn't have any problem receiving them with the long pips and the service return was always complicated for Ovtcharov to deal with.

    Masato shiono amazing match such a shame you didn't finish it off in the 5th credit to Dimitrij. my favourite player along with Gionis and Joo amazing chopping skills

    Shiono would have won the tournament if he had won this match. It's such a shame he didn't. He is by far the best japanese player at the moment even as a "part time pro" and this should be reflected in his world ranking...

      I'd say he would beat Boll.

    • @xyzzzzz01
      @xyzzzzz01 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      GeneralSpecific3 you are aware of the fact that boll is considered the best player of the world against defenst?

    • @GeneralSpecific3
      @GeneralSpecific3 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm also aware of how he lost to Joo Se Hyuk in the 2011 world cup. Masato Shiono seems to be playing better than Joo was playing in 2011 and Boll has been playing worse since then.

    • @xyzzzzz01
      @xyzzzzz01 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      tough to say, but i think shiono is far worse than joo se hyuk. he still is one of the best defenders and he has a very attractive style obviously. hopefully we will see more matches of masato in the future, it's always nice to see him playing...

    Masato Shiono is an inspiration to modern defencive players…..Amazing speed control and most of all a fighting spirit. Unlucky not to finish Dimitrij off then but what a peformance from both players :)

    Smart change of tactics by going to Shiono's body late in the last set to get slightly weaker chops.Otherwise Shiono would have won this.
