Hey, I'm glad you enjoyed our games! The framerate for the DS title does drop sometimes, but only if you play it on an emulator with default settings; it doesn't happen on actual DS hardware, however.

AntDude Thank God I decided to put this video off for later. I would have been very disappointed if I watched this before and saw that it had been reuploaded. I would have to watch this again for my like to count.
The most memorable thing about the NSMB games for me is the music's constant use of the "bah" instrument.
Also how some of the enemies react to the music playing was a very nice touch.

Dracomut, uhhhm the only 2 games that came quite close to each other were 2 and U, the gap from DS to Wii and from Wii to 2 was from 3 years apart.
to be honest if you weren't a kid with a lot of money, like me, you didn't play all these back to back an youre more likely to have better memories of them

Thought the _exact_ same thing, like it was a really serious question that Ant had asked and he had to mute it because it was too real, which makes Scott's cheery "Probably not!" that much funnier.
I'm pretty sure the point of these games was to give the experience that the original Super Mario Bros had on the world to a new generation of gamers, not to cater to older fans of the series.
I can say that is the truth because New Super Mario Bros. on the DS was my first game. This series was my childhood.

The original is timeless, it's honestly aged very well for a 80s game
The toads were chosen to ensure that all the playable characters could use the same animations and base model. Peach was originally considered (mirroring the line up of SMB2) but was cut because her dress was too annoying to code.
I actually LOVED using the blue shell.... I dont see your problem, I have actually bought all all of the new sup games except 2 and really enjoyed all of them

The NSMB series is quite a story.
When the first one dropped, it was actually *refreshing* -- Mario had been screwing around with 3D, going to space, getting a giant water gun strapped to his ass, etc. for *forever*. Seeing a game that went back to the original style, but used new models? That was bootiful. It helped launch the RetroGaming craze in a time when everyone was very much obssessed with whatever the shiniest new things would be.
It's just that rather than laying on the solid foundation of every other classic Mario game (throwing turnips in nightmare worlds, exploring primal dinosaur islands, morphing into a flying raccoon and taking out airships...) it became Nintendo's zone of comfort for easy money. Just make the same game with the same graphics again, it's *FINE*

No, that pretty much covers it. His other moves from 3D games like the long jump, backflip, sideflip, etc. are not present.
I think the development versions of nsmb did have these moves though

The Koopalings are fine. But when it comes to the NSMB series...god, it's just so repetitive, Nintendo couldn't make original bosses for the last 3 games? Why? They can make original bosses for the 3D games, but NOT the 2D games? Oh and speaking of 3D, we've yet to see the Koopalings in 3D, it would be nice to see them 3D JUST ONCE, with that added element, they could be super unique, but nope, we get a few rabbits.

Am I the only one that really enjoy these games? I love NSMB, so having 4 games that's almost the same doesn't seem like a problem to me, just more content
Because if it's more content it should be DLC, not a full price game
But they're all full games, and therefore have the right to be full price.

I enjoy the NSMB games too, even NSMB2. I always thought they deserved more respect, and I wish they would put out a new one for the Switch.
I like the blue shell. Amazingly easy and fun to spin around and dominate the multiplayer battle mode.
Honestly, though, people kinda just... Hate the New series. If they removed the name, they would be 'better.' I mean, I like Super Mario 64 DS... The controls are not the same as on the N64, yeah, but if you get the hang of them, it is a joy to run around the reimagined levels. A bit like Kid Icarus: Uprising.

ive got a hot take, mini mushroom is my favorite mario powerup period and im baffled at the sheer amount of hate it gets. letting you get into little secret spaces is awesome and the floaty jump and running on water made me feel like a very watered down jesus christ when i was a kid playing this game for the first time.

I been playing Mario for nearly 13 years (I am currently 16 right now) and this was my first Mario game. This game will forever be in my heart as a great introduction to the series. I also bought every single Mario game that came after day 1 that’s how much of a fan I am of Mario.

I think it's absolutely great for self imposed challenges or speedruns. It's not that useful when you just casually play the game, but seriously, how many 2D Mario Items aside from the tanooki suit and the fire flower (and their variations bunny suit and ice flower) have ever been universally useful?

The only real recycles are the Cloud, Tree, Knight and King. And they are usually spaced out

Repeated bosses are ok, repeated bosses with no new bosses is bad. Kirby triple deluxe has wispy wood (under the name of flowery woods), Kracko, dark Meta knight and masked dedede. That is 3 out of 10 bosses. New super Mario bros U has The koopalings, Boom Boom, bowser jr and bowser. That is 100% of the bosses in the game.

I remember being a absolute master at this game. This game was my childhood alongside PMD Blue.
Too bad i'm out of practice now.
My favorite moments were all related to mini mario: that mini maze, surfing on bullet bills, speedrunning through the level with the big chompy fish, and launching myself to space and beyond with launch pipes.
Finally, i managed to get to that one hole in the wall of that one castle level, expecting some sort of ultra-secret room. Turned out the level designers simply forgot to put a block there, but i'm still satisfied :)

I don't really think adding 4 player multiplayer and an array of new features is "nothing new" but alright.

No, you were right. He also was wrong about the powerups not being great. The Mega Mushroom was awesome and was EXTREMELY gratifying, and he's only angry about the blue shell because he sucks at using it. His "criticisms" are petty nitpicking or just outright missing the point. You can be rude. He kinda deserves it.

Fun Fact: mini mushroom was not created for new super mario bros. it's actually a power up from donkey kong 94(a remake of the original arcade game for the game boy) and in that game mario has the triple jump too.

So fun little story about the Luigi mini game in NSMBDS. We got my grandfather a DS for his birthday when he was about 76 and got him that game with it and all he ever did was play the Luigi poker game, like he'd spend hours on it at a time and it made him so happy. Supposedly he still plays his DS and 3DS but one of my fondest memories of him is seeing him play a Mario game and just be so ecstatic about it despite it being so simple.

I think that NSMB2 should have started with a plot were Luigi’s gets a gambling from his games from Mario 64 DS mini games, and Mario has to get himself and Luigi out of there crippling debt, while Mario has to make sure that Luigi doesn’t go to the casino and spend all the coins you’ve made

I like the mod that changes the final battle theme into In The Final and Bowser into Dark Bowser.

The shell power up from DS has a super tough learning curve. You can start running through levels but can't stop it's awesome. But it's really fun in the battle mode
Only thing I hate about these games is that it gave way to one of most panic attack inducing enemy Mario history, the mother effing Cheep Chomp. I have nightmares about that bastard.
That and the stories are practically this: Not only did the Mario Bros. and the Yellow & Blue Toads not jump in to rescue Princess Peach from Bowser, Bowser Jr. and the Koopalings even though they were right in front of them and therefore knew what to do and Peach should’ve proven that she too could fight for herself.
