    Hi there! So I'm like 90% sure I'm doing this correctly, and my casted on stitches look correct- but sometimes when I'm doing this method, my tail doesn't get any shorter- it's like i'm somehow pulling yarn from the skein instead. And then other times the tail does get shorter like it's supposed to. I don't notice any change in my technique from when it works vs when it doesn't. Any ideas on what's happening? Thanks!!

    Does it matter if the working yarn is away from you and the tail yarn is toward you or vice versa when doing this?

    When you move the needle to pick up the back yarn, are you grabbing that thread with the needle from above or below? Does it matter?

    Thanks for this video! Your tutorials are very detailed, which helps with learning the more intricate parts of knitting. For your next tutorial, could you please do one on how to keep my cat from biting the yarn while I'm knitting? lol

    I love this cast on for my socks, always gives such a good stretch but springs back!

    This is amazing! This is my first time casting on this way, so I’m a bit slow, but I can see how efficient this will be once I get the muscle memory in. Thank you! I’m off to your vanilla sock on magic loop video :)

    Thanks Kay for your tutorial on long tail cast on . It was easy to pick up when you get used to how to hold the wool etc. I brought your pattern on the Vanilla Socks on Magic Loop today, i'm going to start it now. xx

    So each time you pull the tail through the working yarn it counts as one cast?

    What is the purpose of a long tail?

  • @kathydreher8918
    @kathydreher8918 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    How to determine how long to make the tail? I need to cast on 540 stitches. I’m using a 90cm circular needle . Would I measure out the length of my needle ? Thanks for your time

    Does it matter which needle my working yarn ends up on when I cast on?

    If your working with self striping yarn and want your strips to match what do you do? If I place the slip knit at the color change part of my cast on is that different color.

    • @CrazySockLady
      @CrazySockLady  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I just make sure to start the socks at the same color. I pull yarn out until I’m at a the next color change, cut it. Then I measure from there for where to place my slip knot. And I make sure to do the exact same for the 2nd sock.

    Hi Kay, I was wondering does your yarn start to twist so much that eventually it starts to unply itself? It happens to me and have never asked anyone if that's normal, or if I'm doing something wrong. Thank you!

    • @CrazySockLady
      @CrazySockLady  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Nancy, I don’t believe I’ve ever had that happen. I’m not sure why it would be doing that.

      @@CrazySockLadyI must do something wrong. I'll do it watching your tutorial next time. Thanks so much!!

      I have the same problem! Did you ever figure out why this was happening? I am just turning the skein in the opposite direction to counteract the twisting, which seems to work well enough.

    • @nancywillick5737

      @@tobey8023 Hi! I didn't find out why it happens and haven't really noticed it happening since so not sure why. I did look again here on TH-cam and found 2 videos, from Patty Lyons and Roxanne Richardson. Just search long tail cast on without unplying yarn and you'll find them. I was glad to see that it is a thing and not just me. It could be I was doing it too tightly. Good luck with your search.

    Does it matter which side working yarn is on?

    • @CrazySockLady
      @CrazySockLady  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      In all honestly, I’ve only ever done it with the working yarn in the way I’ve shown it in the video. I would think if it’s swapped it may mess with the amount of yarn you need to pull out. But I’m not entirely sure. Would be interesting to try it the other way and see.

    My slip knot stitch always comes loose/starts to untie as soon as I knit into it... any suggestions?

    • @CrazySockLady
      @CrazySockLady  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That happens! Just pull the tail end and it will tighten back up. ❤️

    So this doesn't talk about tension at all. Should this be ass loos as a normal cast on.
    I'm having a problem making each cast on to tight.

    • @CrazySockLady
      @CrazySockLady  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If your cast ons are too tight try using a larger needle size to cast on ❤️
