Lets learn to knit socks two at a time using the Magic Loop Method of knitting in the round!
(Cuff down, two at a time, with a heel flap and gusset)
In this tutorial I will show you the method for how I knit socks two at a time on the same needle. I will go over how to split your cake of yarn to get started, yarn management - how to best avoid a mess of twisted and tangled yarn, and also how to keep both socks on the same needles while doing the heel section.
Below is a list of supplies that I used in this tutorial.
    Supplies Needed/used in this tutorial:
    - Fingering weight yarn: I used the Summer Sock Camp Colorway 2020 by Desert Vista Dyeworks. This colorway is no longer available but she has some amazing Colorways in her shop! www.desertvistadyeworks.com/
    - US 1/2.25mm 40" circular knitting needle: amzn.to/2P5LPtd
    - Scale (for splitting yarn into 2 even cakes): amzn.to/39H2oFw
    - Lightbulb stitch markers: amzn.to/307GKXD
Times for the tutorial (if you want/need to skip ahead!)
    - Caking/Splitting your yarn: 2:28
    - Cuff #1: 7:43
    - Cuff #2: 15:15
    - Leg: 20:16
    - Heel Section: 31:36
The pattern that I followed in this tutorial is Heel Toe Do Si Do by Crazy Sock Lady Designs. It can be found on Ravelry and Etsy:

Hi Kay tutorial. Thank you. Very clear. I put remove able stitch markers between the socks so I don’t knit the socks together..lesson I learned the hard way. I also put a marker on sock #1 so I don’t get lost😉

Kay's patterns and tutorials are so easy to follow. I was a frustrated sock knitter until I found Kay. I successfully knitted a pair of socks in her Austin Sock pattern using the two at a time method. I'll continue to use this method for knitting socks in the future.

I've been following this tutorial for 5 days now, coming back to it when I'm not sure what to do next and I can now proudly say that I've passed picking up my gusset stitches! Such a good tutorial! I'll be coming back to it, because the part about how to turn the bag/needles so the yarns don't get twisted was just too much for me to learn while also learning a new skill, haha. I started out with good intentions, but I decided to just go with it and untangle my yarn from time to time.
I don't think I will ever knit socks one at a time again, because I get second sock syndrome terribly.

Nice explanation of this process, two at a time, explained really nicely and CLEARLY. This was my first time watching a video on two at a time socks. I had no interest because in my mind that was just too much. Annnd, I'm still working on mastering one at a time socks, particularly knee highs. I like knee highs for the winter. But turns out when you've been blessed with the right teacher, the process is easier than one thought. I feel like that if I wanted right now I can do two at a time right now. But everything has its time and I will surely refer right back to this tutorial. Thank you very much. And happy moving whenever that shall be. And a blessed Holiday Season and a blessed balance of the year

I love the idea of completing each cuff separately then putting them on the cable. I think it would also work well for toe up. Just complete the toe separately then put them together on the circular. Thank you so much for this.

Thank you so much for this variation! I am an inexperienced but adventurous knitter who can seldom finish a project without either ripping it all out or ripping down to a lifeline. With this cable-dpn-cable method, I don’t have to tear out both socks when I screw something up. The added plus is that I can establish a rhythm before the two socks end up on the circular needle. I think this method is just so inventive. Thank you!

3:53 I suddenly feel fortunate for having been gifted two skeins from the same dye lot (I would never *buy* two skeins for one pair of socks, but I do not have the patience to wind my skein into half-cakes, so I'd probably end up pulling one from the center and one from the outside, and therefore having the stripes go in opposite directions)😅

Thank you so much for this. It’s going to help me so much. 1 thing though u mentioned decreases on the instep needles. We only decrease the gusset stitches though - right? Also when u cast on only cast on 1/2 the first sock stitches all of the second sock turn then do the rest of the 1st sock stitches. There r videos explaining it better than my description. I love ur videos!!!

I wish you had also explained the cast on method for two at a time on magic loop for enquiring minds. Cast on 32 stitches for first sock then 64 for second. Then pull loop out at 32 stitches second sock and cast on last 32 for first sock. That makes it clearer as to why you wanted to move the first cuff to dpns etc.

No big secret, you just have to find the cast on and needle size that works to give you the best fit. Finding your perfect fit can be a bit of trial and error!!

Pull tighter on the 2nd stitch on the needle.

Kay, thank you for this tutorial on two-at-a-time socks. It was so helpful! What brand is about your ball/cake winder? It seems to offer great tension that mine does not. Thank you!!

Hey Rita! It’s a Stanwood. I love it! If you look below the video I have a link for amazon and within that I have the Stanwood ball winder linked that I have. Hope that helps! ❤️

I am looking forward to learning to knit two at a time! My question is...do you have a reason that you knit the cuff on the 40" and then transfer it, then transferring it back to the 40"? Would you knit the cuff on same size dpn's and then transfer the cuff to the 40'? That would be only one transfer per cuff. I have never done it before so I am just curious.

It’s just my preferred method of doing it. 🧶

How did I end up backwards after finishing the heel flap? My needles are both facing to my right (RS).

I need to ask a ? When doing you gusset decrease if I got this the first round you decrease on one side then do both on the next round, then you skip(knit all) the next? I'm on my last sock and I'm afraid I'm not going to Finnish it.

I place the beginning of my round in the center of the heel turn. 1st round is a decrease, 2nd round is plain knit round.

    Hi Kay,
Do you have written instructions for two at a time on magic loop on same needle? I am on my second pair of socks following your instructions, but I would like it to be written out. I have the The Vanilla Sock pattern printed out, but would like two at a time written out. You make is so simple. I am willing to pay for it. Thanks so much Chris

      @CrazySockLady  หลายเดือนก่อน

Nope, I do not have two at a time instructions written out. You’re just doing the counts from the vanilla sock pattern, none of that has changed. And then I go through each step for two at a time in this tutorial. 🧶 🧦

What is that device for splitting up the skein into two separate cakes?

    • @CrazySockLady
      @CrazySockLady  3 ปีที่แล้ว

No specific device for splitting them into cakes. I have a yarn winder and Swift. Not sure if that’s what you’re referring too. They are linked within the Amazon link below the video. ❤️
