- In this video I have tested out several grab adhesives, many of which have been recommended by viewers on TH-cam. I have done three tests, firstly stainless steel to stainless steel, secondly a grab test to see how well the adhesives can grab (this was originally copied from the Maximum torque video, which portrayed some grab adhesives as being poor, when they were actually good). I then tested out some hardwood blocks which were stuck to the stainless steel, unfortunately the hydraulic ram seals are now passing and so if I perform more tests I will have to repair, or buy a new ram. I hope people appreciate the amount of work that has gone into this video ;-)

I have never come across adiseal in the normal diy outlets but I will certainly be using it in the future. Many, many thanks for taking the time and trouble (not forgetting cost!) to make this video, it has been a real eye opener. A HUGE thumbs up.

Working on a framing crew, we used to make some quick and dirty sawhorses making angle cuts on the edges of a 2x6, and then glue and nail some ledger-board legs on them (1x8 rough-cut spruce). We used PL 400 subfloor adhesive, because that's what we had. Once the Lull (a forklift mounted on a tractor that could extend up to the third floor) backed over one of the sawhorses, and the PL 400 held, and the leg snapped.

Appreciate the time and effort and the amount of work that you put into this test and having used the two most expensive brands on numerous occasions, I'll be trying out the others, especially the Adiseal. Some of these type of products state in the instructions that mechanical support is required until the product is fully cured. I personally find that any such product labeled as grab adhesive, should be able to grip by itself and should not be labeled as a grab adhesive if it's unable to grab and hold both surfaces straight away.

The Nemesis stuff is really good, when I get chance next year I'm going to try the Nemesis to glue the hardwood blocks to the stainless steel. I'll pick up a grip and grab as well (if I remember)

im amazed at the variation, i mean, you wouldnt expect much difference from a major brand of say PVA wood glue, but seems grab adhesive means anything and can be close to useless

The PL premium is much cheaper than most of them as the tube was at least twice the size of the regular tubes.
I bet it's really good for injecting in the gaps on stairs to prevent them from creaking as the product seems to expand slightly.

Yes. There are a couple advantages to PL. One is that it expands like you mentioned so works well for filling gaps between surfaces and also that it cures to a harder consistency than the other adhesives which sometimes stay soft for months. You can also speed up the cure time by misting some water on the surfaces. Water seems to speed up the curing process. It's a superior product when used to attach plywood to joists to form a squeak-free solid subfloor.

Pressure test is confusing, can you explain, which is glue is best then? marks out of ten? also depends on material glued to?
Nicely done video. Keep in mind that these tests all were based on SHEAR strength, both as cured and uncured material. It would be interesting to compare the TENSILE strength as well since that is a common requirement of construction adhesives.

The hard wood looks like Tasmanian oak but I'm just guessing. I'm really impressed with the Adiseal it's cheaper than some of the others but holds an incredible amount of pressure. Good video Chez your time, money and effort will help a lot of people when it comes to the brand selection for the next diy job they do. Thanks for donating your time effort and resources for this I truly appreciate it ☺

Another great product test video, thank you for spending the time and money to do this, I have certainly learned a few tricks from your other videos. Out of all the products you have tested which one(s) do you always keep in the van? As that must be the ultimate test!
Thanks Jonathan, I don't use much grab adhesive to be honest in fact the only time I use it seems to be for doing these tests.
I did use some earlier in the year though and normally use Nemesis from screwfix as it is very good for the money.

Awesome video man! Would love to see more tests in regards to elasticity, temperature and how well they do in contact with water. I know from experience that Tec7 will harden when in contact with water. Quite a nice ability.
I only started to do these tests because one manufacturer made a video that made all other grab adhesives look inferior, when I did the test for myself- that was not the case at all.

I do like Pink Grip as it does the trick straight away. I used it to fit coving to the ceiling of my bedroom. Excellent stuff, despite the smell of solvent!

Great video, I've been using a fairly new one called grip and grab for the last 12 months awesome stuff especially on skirting boards.the only downside is trying to get it out the tube it's stiff stuff!!!

I wish you would announce that you are planning a test like this. I'm sure some of us would send you a few tubes to test. I would send a few of my favorites.
I would love for you to do a mini grinder disk test. I have found huge differences in some of them

I'm afraid I can't announce when I'm going to do the filming as I often don't know myself. I started to but some of these about 8 months before I got chance to test them out.
As for mini grinder discs, do you mean a 4.5 inch grinder or similar? If you do I highly recommend the "Attack" discs which are made by Dronco (if I remember rightly), they are superb for cutting metal ;-)

Which one would you recommend sticking a Rail C Channel to a Van for a Canopy Awning ? thank you.
Not sure about that, does it not need mechanically fixing or are they normally fixed with grab adhesive!
The strongest grab adhesive I have ever used is Adiseal, but it's not sold everywhere!

No the Nemesis is good actually, it was the cheapo No Nonsense one. Can't expect too much for 2 quid I guess. It was the solvent free one too which maybe isn't as good and seems to take ages to set. I've stuck skirting board with it fine, but not so good for anything more challenging.

I would drill the bricks and use wall plugs and screws.
But if you don't want to do that I would use Adiseal (if you can get it), as that was the strongest adhesive I have ever tested

I'd use nails or screws for framing, but I normally use the Adiseal for jobs that require a grab adhesive.

This is well organized and includes many options head to head. Great resource. Thanks for your hard work. I noticed some of the tubes were very old packaging. Did you get a chance to check the date codes on each? Also wondered if you are planning another trial with the numerous new items that are hitting the market this year. It seams Grab is almost the new standard but comes in many different levels. Your tests help identify the best formulas. Thank you.
No, I did not check any of the date codes. I just bought them all from Amazon. I was quite annoyed actually as I put all the items in my basket on Amazon, then paid using my debit card for the full amount - BUT they did not charge my card for the full amount, they charged my card about 8 or 9 different times for each of the grab adhesives (which really pissed me off as it meant inputting 9 transactions into my accounts instead of 1 transaction).

You seem to have very different brands available than those in the US. I've never heard of most of them. Here Loctite is considered best by most. I'm in the middle of putting some porcelain wall in my kitchen and I'm exhausted from mixing all that thinset for the floor so I decided to try adhesive. I put a few on with PL Premium and it only worked moderately well and was probably close to $8 a tube. It makes a strong bond after it cures buts its on the runny side when it's fresh. Then I tried Loctite Power Grab. This stuff worked brilliantly and was half the price of the PL Premium. It has a consistency like toothpaste and isn't even tacky or sticky when it comes out, but the tiles grab instantly! You definitely have to pick the product for your specific needs. They also make a PL Premium "Fast Grab" but I haven't tried it. The PL Premium you used failed miserably at your test, but that's not really what it was formulated for. But like I said at the beginning, we don't have your brands and you probably don't have ours, so I assume that's all you could find. Thanks for the video. Cheers.
There are lots of brands available here, some of which are much better than others.
A lot of these products look great, if you watch the marketing hype in the manufacturers videos, but most of them are pretty much the same!

Could you do a measurement with the wood on some cheap silicone too? I know they are not meant to be used for gluing but around the house diy I found them quite all right too. And they come cheap compared to adhesives. I've particularly used the S3 saniter silicone for gluing baseboards, skirtings and laminates. Seems to be all right and flexible, it doesn't crack when kicked or hit with the vacuum etc. Unfortunately I don't have the means to measure but would be nice to know how strong it actually is, what else it can be used for.
I'll try to remember to test a tube of silicone the next time I do some testing.

great video and as fair a test as you could have. Very surprising too. I constantly hear people rave about tec 7 being great but clearly not that good. I've never been willing to spend the money on it to find out personally. That adiseal is some stuff though, definitely need to get some of that bought!

definitely. I instantly went looking for Adiseal! need to get my hands on some of that to try out. looks like a cracking product. I know you might not want to give unpaid promotion to people but was there any generic suppliers of the adiseal or did you use a local independant?
I bought it from my local plumbers in Blackburn, they used to stock Bison Polymax but seem to have done away with that and now seem to stock just adiseal (I must see how clear the clear Adiseal is)

I upgraded the workshop lighting a few months back, it used to have 4 X 6 foot fluorescent lamps but a photographer friend of mine said that LED's would make the lighting much better and so I spent £250 on 4 X 6 foot LED lamps, the light in the workshop looked immediately better to the human eye but sometimes if I don't get the item that I'm filming right below a light the picture is really dark when I get it on the computer to edit.

What's the best grab adhesive to stick plastic to tiles in a bathroom?
I would imagine that any of them will be suitable for that.
Normally I use Adiseal, as it is stocked at my local plumbers merchants.

Was thinking this week of sticking pallet slats to my bedroom wall, wainscoting style, and wasn't sure what to really use to glue it to a painted plaster wall. I suppose any will do really. As it's not heavy. And quite pourus. Might use some 35mm nail gun nails to hold it as it sets.

Cant find supabond anywhere
I'm having a real problem hanging a radiator on a wall? Can't get a fixing as the brick is terrible!!! If I plasterboarded over the top and stuck some mdf to the board do you think it would take the weight of the radiator?? It weighs about 45 kilos.
No, I would not use grab adhesive for fixing anything like that.

Excellent testing as usual, but spend a tenner on a descent applicator gun. It makes the world of difference....or did you leave yours at work as well?

I probably don't want the strongest for most things I do. For sticking the skirtings on after laying wooden/laminate floor, I probably want the one that is "JUST" strong enough to hold the skirting for normal every day use. Then be weak enough not to rip out chunks of the wall when the floor needs replacing in years to come.

easy to use too much of this stuff for your appication, use it sparingly, and then finish the edges with a flexible sealant, they will hold just fine and not take the wall off with it

Thanks Chez. Interestingly I believe PL Premium is the construction adhesive that popular youtuber John Heisz uses in nearly all of his videos - he's forever being asked about it. Somewhat glad I never ordered any now seeing that the tube wouldn't fit in my gun!
You are welcome. I bet the PL premium is great as a wood glue as it seemed to expand as well, so it would be good for stopping stairs creaking etc. The tube was massive, if I remember rightly it was about 800ml, compared to 300ml for a standard tube.

from a little research " Adiseal Ltd are also the UK distributor of UltraLube bio-based lubricants from the USA. " so if u can find same brand in usa that also does adhesive it might be the same composite

I don't think it would make that much difference. I never keyed the stainless in this video and the wood bonded to it perfectly.
A few months back I had some stainless steel panels which were full of a honeycomb cardboard like material, I tried to rip it apart but could not budge the adhesive, in the end I had to burn it to get it off!

I wonder if it might be a good idea to put a sticky thread on the forum with a table of results for all these adhesives and price. As you say price seems to mean nothing with these adhesives so a quick reference thread would be great to help us choose a suitably priced brand for the job at hand.

Thanks, I've just about had it with grab adhesive testing now. My original test was only carried out because one manufacturer published a misleading video, which was showing their adhesive to be superior to others, when clearly it was not.

I think the best one from this video (if my memory is correct) was the Adiseal.
I use Adiseal or Nemesis from screwfix most of the time as they are both good and less expensive than some of the others.

Not sure if you check comments on older videos or if you already know this but, Adiseal now refers to your test on their own website. Since they won the strength tests in both categories I can understand why. Just thought you would like to know.
