A weakness can be a strength, and vice versa. ie The fact the gorilla tape is less sticky can be a good thing if it means you can reposition it or peel it off more easily. Same with the stretching. Also you get twice the amount for the buck. Gorilla wins overall if you ask me!
I have used both Gorilla tape & Flex tape to repair my rv roof. The Flex tape was ok, but needed replacing in less than 6 months. The Gorilla tape was still good after about one year. The real test is endurance. Enjoyed the video.
I used gorilla glue waterproof tape on intex pool liner , bottom of pool while full of water. The trick on the gorilla glue is to remove film and set in sun . It’s like tar the warmer it gets the stickier it gets . When cold doesn’t perform very well if at all on application. Hope this helps!
Thank you so much. I just bought an Intex pool, followed all directions. Filling, and at 90% full found 2 holes. Obviously a manufacturing flaw. Don't want to dump the 400 gallons that in the pool. I'm hoping to get The gorilla stuff and fix it tomorrow!
I’ve used the Gorilla waterproof tape and it doesn’t stick well to wet surfaces. But dry clean surfaces it sticks like crazy. It’s rubbery and stretches some and hard as hell to remove. Very useful and quality tape.
@slekan6895 he didn't use it correctly if you were trying to do a long lasting repair it should be dry and clean first. I used the flex tape like 6 years ago in a 30 gallon drum and it still hasn't leaked but I taped it while it was dry and clean and I taped it from m both sides. But for some reason the flex tape I had was black. Hope it helped
Reading the directions is important. They say to clean the area first, making sure there isn't any dirt or grease in target area. Then it says that strength of bond increases with time and some bonds may need 24 hours for maximum bond. Would be interesting to see how the bonds were after 24 hrs.
The Gorilla Tape stretched but then returned to the original length after you set the weight down, which comports to your early on comment that the Gorilla Tape felt "rubbery". The Gorilla Tape would have won hands down if it had the same adhesion as the Flex Tape. The fact that you pulled the backing from the Gorilla Tape easier demonstrated why it didn't stick quickly. Good test and fair evaluation. Thanks for the comparison.
I used Gorilla patch and seal for my Rv roof. I like it better than flex tape because it has more flex and stretches better plus you get twice as much for the same price. I do recommend if you're using it for a roof patch to make sure you clean the area well and honestly using a putty knife to push it down is helpful too but I feel like it's a better product all around.
I am a strong believer in the Gorilla tape, and was quite sceptical about using the Flex tape, but after your demo, you made a believer out of me to try and use the Flex Tape in the future. I have used the Flex Spray to fix my Bird bath... And it worked PERFECT, since July 2020
We have used both and they both work well and when applied to a dry prepped surface there is not difference. Other than the "Flex Tape" is twice the price as the "Gorilla Tape" (Per foot)... We now use the Gorilla Tape since it works much better for sealing trailer roofs since it is more flexible and found the stiffness of the Flex Tape during the hot summer months starts to leak... Whereas the Gorilla Tape adhesive will seal better after it heats up..... And it's 1/2 the price of Flex tape...
Used some flex tape to repair a roof leak in my sunroom that others claimed to have fixed. Cleaned and made sure shingles were brushed to remove loose stuff applied and still holding 2 1/2 years later. If applied correctly it works great and will save ya some cash.
Hi how are you so this product product very nice but this product how to long size wedding and birthday shop is tent this product purpose Helps ,,,,,,,,,,,?
I've been using flex seal for the past 3 years instead of sandbags during hurricane season. It's kept a room that otherwise floods dry for 3 years now. I'm buying more to get ready for Ian!
In Wisc we have property and have a trailer and behind trailer we have a large vinyl garage that we store mowers, ladders etc inside. One year a heavy tree branch fell on it and punctured the vinyl garage, and left a hole w a tear about 4x7 inches. Various patches would not stay, but about 2-3 years ago I bought some Flex tape and applied it from inside of vinyl garage and the hole was on the curved area of the vinyl garage. I applied a large strip of FlexTape w about 2-3” excess past the hole on each side, And I have to say I’m very happy with the results! Worked excellent for my purpose. Tried some on roof of our trailer though but it did not stay. Maybe flex paste would. I may try that next.
I've had good success with flex paste in my camper roof. It went on pretty well and a few months later is still holding strong. If you end up trying it out, let me know how it works for you.
Yes, Jeff. I've Used both. Gorilla tape cus an ultra sticky duct tape. Nothing more. It would not hold on washing machine drain hose. Flex tape not only works on that, but pressurized hoses and PVC PIPE!
I agree. I wouldn't try it on pressurized pipes but I've had good success with holding standing water in/out. Check this one out: th-cam.com/video/q72CjPHp2Hg/w-d-xo.html
Used flex tape on hairline cracks on my foundation. Inside and out. Over a year ago and is still keeping basement dry. Outside crack was a rushing stream. Am sold on flexseal tape. Will always have some on hand.
found a leak in my shipping container building. With your help, I know now that I can try some tape, and expect that will be resolved until a better more permanent plan can be put in place! Thanks Jeff!!
Haha...that's funny. I will say a few weeks ago I put 2 holes in my pool liner (both on the bottom) I patched one with flex tape and one with gorilla tape. They hold pretty well but there is still a leak (not sure from which one) I have to add water every week or so. Still I am happy the patches should last the season. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.
@@lisacypert1154 good question. It's really leaking - or at least it was before I drained it to replace the liner. Other symptoms include the sand moving under the liner from the excess water. They slowed the leak but didnt stop it entirely. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.
Hi Jeff, do you think the Flex Tape would work on a leaking hot tub jet assembly where the gasket in the middle of the assembly body dried and cracked?
Cost is a big factor for me because I need to buy 15 more feet for tarp repairs for tents over my boats. I used 5 feet of flex tape on a southern exposure area that was the worst. After reading comments I am going to risk going for the gorilla tape for the remaining 15' of repairs. It seems its glue has slower "initial tack" but gains bond strength over some hours. I will apply while the surface is clean and dry therefore, to avoid issues of low initial tack. Also, the comments indicate that gorilla tapes strong bond over time, its stretching and recover of shape from stretch or heat, and UV resistance is superior to flex tape, and those are the qualities I need, not plugging a flood of water. The spots I need to repair also are on irregular curved spots passing over tent pipe elbows and the flex seal tape had trouble conforming. Sounds like gorilla tape will stretch and conform better. Thanks for the demonstration and discussion
I used the flex tape to hold down tarps for a hurricane in Florida! This stuff is amazing! Complete hold during hurricane Ian! I will never be with out it!
Thanks dude, I have a pretty big drain pipe leak under my kitchen sink so this demo was helpful in showing that while one brand may be a bit better than the other both of them work. Providing my issue can even be fixed with adhesive tape, temporarily or not, something I am really hoping will be the case because otherwise I'll have to buy a new counter as its rotting underneath, sink and piping which we all know will lead to new cabinets and drawers etc. and I don't want to spend what little money I have left (emphasis on "little" thanks to covid causing me my job) redoing my kitchen.
These tapes are a good temporary fix, especially for a line not under pressure...I get what you mean about the covid renovation... I'm doing one myself. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.
The top of my van windshield leaked. So I used the Gorllla. They didn"t have the Flex tape at my Walmart. Better bargain anyway. And I like the black color. Sticks immediately, so make sure you got it where you want it.
The Gorilla tape applied on the outside is showing signs of the water creating channels between the tape and the bucket and its approaching the edge of the tape. Water is not creating channels on the bucket with the Flex tape. Flex tapes appears to be better.
Used the clear flex tape to repair the rips and holes in my boat cover. So far so good. I will say this, 5 feet of flex tape goes very fast! an extra 5 feet of Gorilla tape for the same price is a huge advantage especially if you need a lot.
Actually there are A LOT of variables in trying to do testing like this. How big the hole is and how deep the water is make sure you difference and pressures and what not. So doing a test in a bucket isn't going to relate to a hole in the side of an above ground pool towards the bottom cuz there's crazy amount more pressure and weight pushing down on it. Good preliminary testing regardless so at least I have an idea of what I'm looking at now so thanks.
I would think the fact the the Gorilla tape stretched (flexed) more than the Flex tape would be beneficial and not a con unless you are using it to lift barbells.
I have not used Gorilla Tape, but have been disapointed in one of their products. I used Flex-Tape for my shower and other things and it has held up quite well. Not a permanent solution, but then again, I can't afford to remodel my bathroom. I think the fact that they sell twice as much at the same price, says a lot. But, if you are really looking for a lot of good solid quick fixes that you do not expect to hold, then the Gorilla is the go-to. Save money, fix things. Thanks for the video!
The gorilla tape is definitely more rubbery feeling. It is stretchy. Although its not as good as the flex tape it was able to hold its own - for a little while. Thanks for taking the time to comment!
Note that if you do the test you should fill up the water level after the sticking to the same level in all tests. Because the water level determines the pressure that the tape must withstand.
That's good to consider, I need something to hold my convertible top fabric in place, as the front has started to wear and rip loose. I've been using Gear Aid, Vinyl repair tape. But it doesn't seem to hold very well.
Thanks for sharing and comparing, nice job on that! I was wondering if one had a stronger smell than the other? I'm planning to use it around venomous insects that are sensitive to scents. :)
Gorilla tape sucks!!!!! I tried to use the construction adhesive and it wouldn't even maintain contact with my wall!!! I used the adhesive and on my ceiling and that took 72 hours alone just to support a curtain rod! I tried the tape to support a key hook three piece holder (plaqye) and it supported the adhesive for approximately 16 minutes! So I fill Gorilla glue is all ,Cap!!!
Really glad that you left the video on while you tried to peel the flex tape! I had the same problem. I do like the fact that you get twice as much with the gorilla tape.
I've seen around on youtube Flex Tape works well on fixing air mattresses, so whatever works best for patching a hole on an air mattress. Seems like typical tape doesn't really do so well. I haven't tried duct tape yet, but I've heard it doesn't do so well either to cover a hole on an air mattress.
The only thing I have found permanent success with an air mattress is a vinyl weld...that way it would adhere and become part of the original material. Flex Tape may work for a while but not permanently. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.
I used Flex Tape last year. I had major difficulty trying to cut it because the glue from the tape stuck to my scissors and also to a knife I tried to use. It was also next to impossible to start peeling the backing off. I was using my fingernail to try to separate the backing. I finally got the backing off, and the tape is still holding over a year later on an inside project. But edges of the tape are starting to lift up on the outside project. I also tried the liquid on a metal shed roof, but it wouldn’t spread. I think the metal was just too hot. The temperature was in the nineties and the roof was in direct sunlight. So I didn’t finish the shed roof, but I’m going to try again, now that it’s cooler outside.
Tried the white Flex Tape on my cleaned surface inground vinyl pool liner to cover a small under water rip, pealed off after a couple of months. Also tried to patch an above waterline rip exceeding 6 inches beyond the rip. The Flex Tape didn't stop the rip and peeled off after a month.
I have used a $20 pool patch kit after the kids put 2 small slits in the in ground pool liner, it initially did the job but started leaking slowly. When I drained the pool over winter to clean the calcium build up off the 15 year old liner ( PVC on site welded liner) , I replaced the 2 patches with coloured vinyl and glued it with pvc pipe cement after priming it with their primer, it stuck so well it was not coming off. 6 months later I have another small hole and tried gorilla tape, it sticks really well to dry stuff but not so well under water, it sticks more like a fridge magnet but has stopped the leak. I don't vacuum over it just in case. My pool is a dream to keep clean compared to before removing the calcium build up with hydrochloric acid.
I use Flex Tape as a keel guard on my Kayak! My kayak was showing some wear from rocks, gravel and concrete boat ramps. It's taking a beating but serving the purpose well!
I much prefer FLEX spray and tape for water leaks specifically. I had a leak in my pond where my water source came up into my upper retain basin. I used flex spray all underneath it and stopped the leak. Even after 17 degree temps it is still holding. Used the FLEX tape to cover a crack in water supply line. This stuff is amazing. I have also used FLEX caulk and construction adhesive. Awesome. However, If I have to bind or repair anything away from water, Gorilla is my go-to, especially on wood- Gorilla Glue is the king!! Both amazing product lines, but I go by what my application is going to be.
Used flex seal spray while the hurricane was pushing my window in. It sealed and dried while the water was spraying in sideways into the house. Made a mess but again sealed and stopped the water during Irma. Not bad in my opinion. Had ordered new windows but freaking hurricane hit before they were in.
Excellent review, the way you slap that tape to the bucket lol The gorilla tape is not equally getting as much pressure exerted to the tape as to the flex tape. The flex tape is the real deal.
Just so I needed to know! I feel like the flex tape is much better the Gorilla Tape didn't stick where I had hooked a PVC faucet into a hose and then turned on the water and it popped out but using the flex tape it sealed and it didn't pop out. Thanks for your demonstration
I watched because I am looking for something to hold cat6 cable for cctv onto my brick house. Over 110 yrs. old I don't want to put more holes than necessary on my front brick. Thought your review was very well done. Thanks.
I have a flat roof that has Gaco silicone coating on it. It developed a few cracks and was leaking. After watching your video I went out and purchased one roll of each. It was barely sprinkling when I attempted to make the patch. However I made sure that I wipe the area down with dry rags and also sprayed it with alcohol to facilitate the water evaporating. It certainly wasn’t completely dry but there were no drops of water. Sadly neither products worked at all. In fact when I went to rub them down they kept moving because they did not adhere. I will try it again on a sunny warm day but as far as it’s sticking to moisture that did not happen in my case. It may be because it doesn’t stick to silicone.
I have had good success using flex glue and flex tape. I recently glued down a vinyl floor that was peeling and I set a large brick on the piece to hold it down. 30 minutes later removed the block and it was dry. Let us know how it works on a dry warm day. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.
Thank you for this demonstration Jeff. I definitely feel flex tape is worth trying on the slice I accidentally made in our plastic pond liner while trying to trim silicone away from a drain that was sealed to a hole made in the bottom of it. Do you think that this tape could be shaped around the drain, to ensure a smoother surface, for a flat rubber plug to rest upon? I used a lot of silicone to secure the drain. I also tried to repair the slice I made, with additional silicone. Would the set silicone applications need to be completely removed, before taping with the flex tape, for a proper adhesion? Or could I work the flex tape over the silicone as it is, and still achieve the seal that I am hoping for?
the difference is when the water pressure is being use to support the contact by the water being on the non sticky side, it helps the hold but the water pressure pushing the tape off the bucket it won't last as long
So after my statistics study and watching your video if you calculate everything Flex tape would win an overall quality product however I would choose Gorilla Tape due to the fact of pricing if you calculated you would get so much more times more in Gorilla Tape for your money and you can just patch that hole three times or more going off the equivalency of pricing just saying thank you for the video by the way
I used that gorilla tape to repair holes in my automatic pool cover. First time, it didnt work. Half the patch came off clean and allowed pool water to leak onto the cover, while other parts were stuck pretty good. I had cleaned the area with windex first. Second time around, I cleaned it with windex, then wiped it with acetone, applied patch, then hit it with the heat gun. Its been pretty much glued to the cover for about 3 months and has not leaked (2 patches). A friends dog (chocolate lab) came over, jumped on the pool cover the other day and ripped a new hole and just applied another patch. The cover is old and needs to be replaced, but I just want it to last through the winter. I just bought some flex tape and was wondering if they were the same. Thanks for tests.
I used both to patch 2 holes at the bottom of my pool. Unfortunately my pool brush poked the liner and I too wanted it to last through the season. They both held up but I did have to top off the pool every week or so (which has not been the norm). Anyway we made it and a new liner will go in next year. Thanks for taking the time to comment and share your user experience.
I used the white Flex Tape on an outside seam on one of my gutters. There was some leaking. The tape began to disintegrate in less than a year until it started to peel off the gutter in pieces.
Good video, I used Flex tape on my above ground pool and its held up for 3 years now. I put it on the inside. I use Flex tape for all my pool leaks and so far it works great.
Tried the clear Gorilla tape for an underwater repair on my vinyl pool. Tried once and it didn’t stick at all. Tried a second time rolling the tape off the backing onto the pool underwater and it didn’t stick either. Not even a little bit.
Hello Jeff, I have old tarpaulin which has some pinholes caused by the tarp containing gravel for a time . Need to seal these to make some ponds to raise duckweed and azolla for chicken feed. Water in the pond will be about 8 to max 10 "deep. What would you recommend, flex or gorilla tape? Would appreciate your comment
Both are pretty good as a temporary fix. Over time they will let water through. The flex tape did better but the gorilla tape was less expensive with twice the product. Hope this helps. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.
I used flex tape to hold on my side view mirror. It would not hold in the high heat of the day. 85 of higher. The gorilla tape work much better. Last for weeks at a time.
She is referring to an idiot model who didn't have hair spray so instead used gorilla glue and essentially had a helmet head til she had to have surgery. She was going to sue gorilla glue stating it says nowhere that you can't use it on hair. Made a gofund me and a hoard of equally dimwitted people donated over $30k to her for her foolishness. The world is a weird place. Being dumb gets you $$$
@@Jeffreviews4u type in gorilla glue girl if you haven’t heard of her yet. The videos on TikTok that made her go viral is still hilarious, although yes... there were issues surrounding it.
@@Jon-gj3fe you forgot celebrities reached out to her trying to give her wigs and stuff. It’s crazy how during quarantine we are struggling (well I am financially) and she gets paid after doing something people say was on purpose (that I don’t know I never looked into it after the videos)
Jeff if used the flex tape in Black I bought from Amazon on several occasions all under water situations, my hot tub etc. I LOVE IT, works great definitely recommend it.
Thanks for this video Jeff! I learned a lot and it helped me make a better decision on purchasing my underwater pool fix tape. Keep doing what you're doing 👌
Great Review i will be using Flex Tape for Outdoor Tarps and green house covers for now on and Gorilla tape for just wrapping things firmly but T-Rex Tape will be my overall EDC kind of tape or just laying around in the closet due to best value per roll.
Cutting the flex tape is so much of a pain, but it sealed my tiny sub basement window up really good. The barrel by the window would fill with water every rain and the pressure would push the seal open, and the water would pour into my basement. I got sick of fixing the window zsi I flex tapped it about 1 year ago,and it's still holding strong
I used both tapes on my pool liner last year. the tears were on the floor and the tape held up pretty well. I replaced the liner at the beginning of the season this year. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.
Omg you are a life saver thank you Jeff. My kid popped a hole in my air mattress while camping and I didnt know what to do. So I came across this video and boom. Easy fix.
I used regular gorilla tape on my inner fender 5 years ago to cover a hole three inches by one inch and it's still there so I like Gorilla product I have use it in other places where rust has started and sure enough some places it's been three years and it's still holding. It has gone throw salt cold weather water the whole deal and it's still holding could do a commercial.lol
I tried the flex tape on an above ground pool that already is filled with water. It won't hold up for pin hole leaks. Very disappointing. I've since found other yt videos of people showing it fail to hold when you apply it to an existing leak
I've had success on a liner pool using flex glue and flex tape. See this video: th-cam.com/video/q72CjPHp2Hg/w-d-xo.html. A lot depends on the surface you are trying to patch. Hope this helps.
Have you used each kind to fix splits and holes in rubber rain boots? Which tape is better for sealing split or holey rubber rain boots? Thank you Jeff Reviews4u!
Hey! I am trying to find some waterproof tape to fix my above ground pool I am so glad I ran into your channel. I was on the fence about which one of these to get. I think I've decided on the flex tape even though I am going to have to use more than one roll. I actually didn't like the way the gorilla tape performed. The liner is coming detached from the rim of the pool and the gap is quite wide long and wide. This has been going on for a while so I figured I had better do something. I don't want to drain the pool at this point and have someone fix it. Thank you for your review.
Jeff brilliant review. Very objectively done and it is very helpful. I have been using the Gorilla tape though but will keep my options open when i have to replenish. Again, very helpful video. Tq
I tried to be as objective as possible. Thanks for mentioning it. I like both tapes but sometimes budget dictates what I get - ha. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.
I applied it to the 20 or 30 sporadic rust holes above the rain gutters on my 1973 Steal on steal gillig school bus roof and tirned temporary into a more flexible word its not gonna stop the rust in the desert but it slows the spread greatly
@@daciasdiy1861 it was unbranded, but the same exact tape and works the same. Search for 'unbranded flex seal tape'. I found some for only $4 but they ship from China and take longer. You can find some US sellers that are around $6-7 with free shipping. I'm sure you can find similar results on Amazon also.
Flex tape never fixed a hole on my hose...didn't work at all. Tried it on a few hoses where rips were less than an inch long. I guess the pressure of water was too strong for it
Flex tape is definitely a temporary fix. A hose may be difficult unless it is completely smooth. Water pressure may also have to do with it. Thanks for sharing your experience.
Hoses can have a rather large amount of pressure.. I do not know of any tape that can permanently fix a garden hose or equivalent. Flex seal is moslty pertaining to temprarily sealing a natural gravity of water flow.
Had a small hole in my kiddie pool that needed to be patched. Bought the Gorilla Tape since is was twice the length of the Flextape for the same price. I also found that the Gorilla Tape took some time to get it to stick to the pool liner. Put a patch on both the inside and the bottom of the pool liner. Will check this afternoon to see if the patch has sealed. The only problem I had was getting the roll to start unrolling. The edge of the roll had adhered to the black face and it took some doing and tearing of the tape to get it going. Was a little surprised at how well it had stuck to the black face since when I pulled off the clear liner, the tape did not seem that aggressively sticky. Thanks for this video, it really helped!
i like your video sir. i bought these water jugs, and made some mistakes storing them in the shed. Anyway I wonder if flextape/gorillatape is suitable for a potable water jug. I'd love to hear some qualified comments.
the flex tape is a lot thicker than the Gorilla Tape also you get your finger stuck to the Gorilla Tape compared to the flex tape there's a big difference
I found the gorilla tape to be thicker... you're right about getting stuck to it. My go to is the flex tape even though it is a bit more expensive. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
there's a holder on back of this thing to conveniently hold the probes . Wouldn't t be super swell of they had put an ounce more thought into it and made it to accommodate the length of the lead wires .
Hi Jeff, Thank you so much for this review. I am a person who loves DIY projects and was looking for a strong and waterproof tape. This video was extremely helpful in making my decision. I will definitely be using Flex tape for most projects however. I will also keep the Gorilla tape around as an alternative if needed. I do find it very interesting how the Gorilla tape was able to stretch. I was thinking that while stretched it may stick faster with out having to hold it until it sticks. Just curious. Thanks again.
Jeff , do you think I can use this on aluminum patio chairs legs just to keep them from scraping cement. Odd size so no options to buy protectors so is this thick enough tape either that or try molding plastic ha ha...
I think this would work for that...you may have to reapply every so often if the chair leg cuts through the tape. Thanks for taking the time to comment.
Great review. I'm glad you dried off the outside of the bucket and continued the review. I have some Gorilla tape that I hope will seal a small crack in my flat roof.
@@dance2live47 flex makes a new product called flex Paste. I did a review recently. Check it out here: th-cam.com/video/BCfcvfhlzBM/w-d-xo.html may help
Hi. That was a great test. I have decided to use flex tape. Q. How hard is it to remove if I decide to take it off. I am using it outdoors to hold plastic or fiberglass to vinyl and need it to hold through a Canadian winter. Thanks so much. Cynthia
It's not impossible to get it off but it does take some elbow grease and a little flex seal remover spray. Check this out. th-cam.com/video/GFg_V5Z2b-U/w-d-xo.html
So I have a cracked DE pool filter - had tried mending it from the inside with fiberglass several times and it kept leaking again after a while. Just tried the gorilla tape on it (bought it before I saw this review). I did have to press it a bit around the edges, but on starting the pool filter up again, it's under about 15+ lbs of pressure and not leaking. The crack was narrow and about 2 or 3 " long. Yeah, I need a new filter casing, but this will hold me for a while I think.
Have you heard of bondic? I did a review on it recently: th-cam.com/video/gunqs5qmc0M/w-d-xo.html Although I have never tried sealing a crack under pressure, if the crack is not that wide it may help. You could seal it and then put the flex/gorilla tape over it. Just a thought.
@@Jeffreviews4u I've seen it but hadn't thought to try it on this. I'm thinking the tape is going to do it - I had just ordered a replacement bottom for the filter (almost $300) but might cancel and see if the tape works for a bit. I went to a variable speed pump and dropped the RPM so the pressure isn't quite so high (can go to 30 lbs when the filter is dirty) so as long as I keep it clean, might just hold me for a bit.
The flex company has a liner kit repair where the mix flex glue and flex tape. It is supposed to work under water. That being said a dry application would be best. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.
I've tried all of them on a leaky metal roof...I get a "temporary" fix before having to repair the spot. Honestly it takes a lot of effort to get the stuff off to repair the spot. Hope this helps. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.
I used FlexSeal by my sink it’s still holding and it’s over 5 years old now I have to make repairs as I loss my husband but I’ll keep using FlexSeal for anything around water
Try the flex tape on my pool it was dry on the inside and outside and the patches immediately came off once I started filling up the pool I would not recommend flex tape it probably stuck better to your bucket because it was plastic and my pool is vinyl but I don't think it's sticks underwater very well
I think you're right about the vinyl vs plastic. Vinyl is not a smooth surface. This tape needs that smooth surface. For the pool, I'd use a vinyl patch. Thanks for sharing your experience.
I have a pool as well and it got some debris thrown against it from about 15 to 20 feet away and that caused a large split. About 8 inches of a split. I sent my wife to walmart for some gorilla tape and she came back with flex tape. I applied it to the inside underwater (4 ft) and was marginally successful. I then applied it to the outside and although the leak isn't completely stopped, it is reduced to the point that I am confident that it will do until this fall when I can drain the pool down to the point that I may be able to do a more significant fix.
What is the outside made of? If Flextape makes a solid bond you're good to go. Any texture and you're sure to have leaks. Thanks for sharing your experience.
@@Jeffreviews4u probably was some texture on the pool surface. I left for a vacation for a week and when I got back the leak has seemed to have completley stopped. The wife doesnt seem to be let down, she said with a smile "Solid side?"
How about this item? I need to patch a 4" split in a 2" PVC pipe that's part of my pool filtration system. Tried flex tape to no avail... how about this UK product? ...? Sylmasta Universal Pipe Repair Kit???
No tape will work on a line that is under pressure. I've tried quite a few and all of the tape fails. Unfortunately, you're going to need to replace the pipe.

Hahaha, that's the truth. You could buy a few buckets with the cost of the tape.

But you could fix many buckets with a roll of tape. Think about that 🤔
Yeah I'd better buy a bucket as well. I bought one before and used it already it is pretty good but as you said not for long term use.
I’ve used the Gorilla waterproof tape and it doesn’t stick well to wet surfaces. But dry clean surfaces it sticks like crazy. It’s rubbery and stretches some and hard as hell to remove. Very useful and quality tape.
That's how I want to use it to patch my rain barrel. The barrel will be clean and dry before application.
Is it really working?
How long could it be last? I mean their life span..
@@TheRealWickedGardener oh! Thank you very much ♥
Reading the directions is important. They say to clean the area first, making sure there isn't any dirt or grease in target area. Then it says that strength of bond increases with time and some bonds may need 24 hours for maximum bond. Would be interesting to see how the bonds were after 24 hrs.
Absolutely, you should clean the area first. Great point. The bond does increase with time. Thanks for taking the time to comment.
Gorilla does not stretch better, so I'm gonna have to back you up.

I am a strong believer in the Gorilla tape, and was quite sceptical about using the Flex tape, but after your demo, you made a believer out of me to try and use the Flex Tape in the future. I have used the Flex Spray to fix my Bird bath... And it worked PERFECT, since July 2020
That's awesome. Thanks for sharing your experience.
Thanks for providing your experience working with flex tape and gorilla tape!

@@Jeffreviews4u Is it leaking really or could that just be normal water evaporation?

Thanks dude,
I have a pretty big drain pipe leak under my kitchen sink so this demo was helpful in showing that while one brand may be a bit better than the other both of them work.
How did it work out for ya?
The top of my van windshield leaked. So I used the Gorllla. They didn"t have the Flex tape at my Walmart. Better bargain anyway. And I like the black color. Sticks immediately, so make sure you got it where you want it.

The Gorilla tape applied on the outside is showing signs of the water creating channels between the tape and the bucket and its approaching the edge of the tape. Water is not creating channels on the bucket with the Flex tape. Flex tapes appears to be better.
I liked them both. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
If you're looking for a pool patch, I've heard flex glue mixed with flex tape works well
I would think the fact the the Gorilla tape stretched (flexed) more than the Flex tape would be beneficial and not a con unless you are using it to lift barbells.
I see what you are saying beneficial in some cases not in others. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.
I am looking because I need something to fix a hose that twists. flexibility is definitely a plus so I'll be going with the gorilla.
Thanks for the video!
in the footage you can see the gorilla tape bulging around the hole.
The gorilla tape is definitely more rubbery feeling. It is stretchy. Although its not as good as the flex tape it was able to hold its own - for a little while. Thanks for taking the time to comment!
That's what she said 🤣
I saw that too. Putting price aside as a variable, I would go for Flex Tape every time.

Note that if you do the test you should fill up the water level after the sticking to the same level in all tests. Because the water level determines the pressure that the tape must withstand.
Ya I was thinking the same thing
The Gorilla tape stretches for flexibility; it gives, but that makes it stronger because it isn't rigid

The backing can be very difficult to pull off...I tend to roll the corners. Thanks for sharing your experience!
They say flex tape and flex glue work as a pool patch. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
I was just at the store trying to decide between the two. Flex tape is the winner.
I agree. It does a better job. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

Is it sticky? Gorilla tape does have products without plastic
Hut
the difference is when the water pressure is being use to support the contact by the water being on the non sticky side, it helps the hold but the water pressure pushing the tape off the bucket it won't last as long
So after my statistics study and watching your video if you calculate everything Flex tape would win an overall quality product however I would choose Gorilla Tape due to the fact of pricing if you calculated you would get so much more times more in Gorilla Tape for your money and you can just patch that hole three times or more going off the equivalency of pricing just saying thank you for the video by the way
sometimes it comes down to how much - thanks for the comment.
@@alicehatter4973 this tape would be a temporary repair until you can replace the tubing.
@@Jeffreviews4u Right :)
@@alicehatter4973 😀👍
Thanks for the review. Little dudes pool just got a hole and now I can fix it and not shell out more money for a whole new toddler pool this season!
Hahaha.. I hear ya. These kids like to keep cool
i like your video sir. i bought these water jugs, and made some mistakes storing them in the shed.
Thanks. Definitely gonna buy flex tape for my project🤙
It's a little more expensive but it is the better product. Let me know how it works out for you. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.
Let me know what you think when you use the tape.
I have some Gorilla tape that I hope will seal a small crack in my flat roof.
how did it work?
@@Jeffreviews4u It did work! I recommend it for a tenporary fix
@@dance2live47 flex makes a new product called flex Paste. I did a review recently. Check it out here: th-cam.com/video/BCfcvfhlzBM/w-d-xo.html
may help
I did a review on it recently: th-cam.com/video/gunqs5qmc0M/w-d-xo.html
Although I have never tried sealing a crack under pressure, if the crack is not that wide it may help.
Pools are expensive, but worth it during the summer months. I'm going to try and replace my liner next weekend. Let me know how your project works.
If you can, put it on both sides!
@@cumshot247 The outside is ribbed. Tape wouldn't stick to it. It has held me just fine until I ordered a new lower unit. Pretty good tape.
I used flex tape to patch a Koi pond liner and it had to be clean and dry to fix the hole or tear in the liner. Not just slap it on fix
The flex company has a liner kit repair where the mix flex glue and flex tape. It is supposed to work under water. That being said a dry application would be best. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.
@john dodd How is the koi pond doing? Did the fix work? I have a liner repair to do and am conflicted which product to use.
I would love to see that flexseal can be used for coating roofs.
@@Jeffreviews4u will do thank you for your video 💯
