Thanks so much for watching. The boy in the beginning is our grandson Jackson. I started this channel so he would have documented footage of Pops in the garage. He loves watching the videos. Thanks for watching.
Very interesting project, seemed to be ahead of there time space age for 1980s. The little Honda is very funky machine .... Nice to see it being saved.. Hondas live forever as you say they just sleep 😴 for a while 😴
Years ago my old roommate used these for his meter reading job. Every so many miles he needed to replace the centrifugal clutch. It was a pain in the butt. Probably the reason these ended up in the salvage yard is that they need a new clutch.
I really like the way you contemplate about silly (important) things. I know that kind of thinking. But I do miss the update on the Laverda and the Honda. But than.. I enjoy the way this goes:)
love some scooter fixing! It's a clutch, clutch bell and cvt cover that you're missing from the red one. Your variator is in place in the front, that's the drive pulley, the clutch in back is the driven pulley. Connected by a belt. I own a 96 Helix...love me some old Hondas!
You are brave. I see a bike like that and run the other way. I have a 1988 Elite 250 that was running great until I think the carb got clogged. When it warms up a bit in NH I'll get to work on it.
Picked up one of these in red at the start of last summer. It was my first 2 wheel vehicle and man did I have a blast ripping around town and back roads every day! It was in great shape overall but had a few issues still. It broke down on me a couple times but I’ve been able to fix the issue and get back home with just the Honda tool kit every time so far. At this point I’ve basically gone through everything and it runs perfectly now. Riding the Elite and watching videos like these did give me the motorcycle itch and I picked up a ‘73 CB350G in green for $550 in August. It didn’t run but now it’s almost ready to go. It’s been my first time really doing significant mechanical work but I’m happy to say it’ll definitely be ready for the spring! Cant wait to start my next project after I get done with the CB haha
My late father's UK version Spacy had that very cool space age dash too. You may not realise, but I seem to remember there were heater ducts to direct warm air from the radiator to your feet. I wish I prevented my late father from selling his 😪
🤣 The old Honda commercials for this scooter are awesome. There is on with Grace Jones, Jim MacMahon, Adam Ant and of course Devo. They scream 80's. Thanks for watching.
Your grandson's reaction to the headlight flipping up is so cool!!! And congrats on reaching 10K subs (I just checked, TH-cam says it is). Your drive system looks like a CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission). The variable part comes from the gap between the two sides of the "clutch" pulley opening or closing, making the drive belt ride higher or lower between the two sides, changing the gear ratio. This happens automatically based on engine speed and the internals of the "clutch". They are set up so they generally keep engine rpm in the most efficient range of operation, changing the gearing to allow for varying loads on the engine, like acceleration, deceleration, and constant speed cruising. The "clutch" pulley appears to be what is on your rear wheel/axle and the fixed pulley is attached to the crankshaft. The whole thing is enclosed in the housing you pulled apart which protects the pulley, clutch, and drive belt. Looks like fun! Edit: On some of the more complex CVTs there are clutches on both ends of the drive system, but the Elite looks like it has the clutch only on the rear. The front pulley appears to be fixed.
I grew up in the 80’s and don’t remember them. Let’s be honest I can’t remember what I had for breakfast. 😂 I am having a blast with them. Thanks for watching.
Looks like a fun project. You may be able to recover the LCD display.. There are some TH-cam videos about repairing these types of mono displays. Corrosion can build up in the connection between the circuit board and the display itself.
I've removed a few triple trees, but never an actual tree. For a second there I thought you lived next-door to a zoo with an elephant enclosure. Either that or a Wookie or sasquatch was coming for you. You'll have share some video of that dog. That's quite a bellow she's got.
Interesting scooter. They were definitely a space age thing back then. Interestingly, the Suzuki Katana 750 had a pop up headlight which was really cool. As for the LCD speedo, if it's the same as the early GPz's, it has suffered bleed out and unfortunately is unsalvageable. I tried to rebuild a couple GPz tank instrument clusters and disappointingly, couldn't find anything suitable as a replacement part.
@@motorcyclerewindhaha, I’m not sure it did. Missing gas tank, battery box, ignition, hand brake, tail light…but it runs 😂. Still worth restoring. Going to have to 3D print a rear-right turn signal base as those apparently got Thanos snapped out of existence. Been wanting one since Terminator, so it’s a labor of love!
My neighbor had a red one just like that. I worked on it a couple times for her. Turns out she kept adding "Heat" to the gas tank thinking it was the same as fuel stabilizer. I'm guessing she was close to E50. Didn't even smell like gas, smelled like alcohol. A complete drain and flush with non ethanol and it was ready to roll. She was riding it (poorly) into her 70's. Sold it to a guy I know for $150 when moving into an assisted living place. He wanted a pit bike for use at the drag strip
After seeing this i had to go check the Terminator to see if its one of these Sarah Conner rides in the movie. Shes on a Gold one it has a pop up light , i knew id seen one of these before (Never seen one on the UK market we did have some similar "Super-Scooters" but in my area never seen an elite). That was a pile of elites like an ancient elephant grave yard. I use rust eater on various items, instead of squirting it, put it in a bowl and use a cheap disposable 1 inch paint brush to apply it affords better more controlled coverage and application. Cant wait see how this project goes .
I'm an adict to your Chanel . This one is funny unique tree growing out of Honda Elite scooter. Electric saw fix😂. Then a looney supper dog giving us a laugh😊... Keep it up,I'm enjoying it all. Was it a variator to answer your question. I do own a 81 Honda melody and 2009 a sh300. With about 17 other 60s 70s bikes 7 live in my living room. I'm your typical 67 year old British insentric😂
I guess they always come from scrap yards in pairs? I have two in back yard grandsons great grandad gave me to 'fix up'. Both blue but only one title. CVT belt needs changing. When engine or axle bolt will rotate but not come out, there is a spacer of some kind rusted to it . On that scooter, there are rubber mounts with steel spacer, you can probably see two alloy mounts on the one you removed with a gap between them There seems to be a large Japanese enthusiasts club plus a worldwide following. Was quite surprised how much they can go for

Honda's, what can you say, "ultra reliable when new, Very reliable when left for dead" nice post
You’re an 80s kid, of course you love them 💗
Jackson’s reaction in the beginning is the BEST! He’s going to love these videos when he’s older 🥰
We definitely imprinted a memory. He is gonna be 50 years old and see a flip up headlight and it will all come flooding back. Thanks for watching.
CVT. Primary clutch is the front one. Secondary clutch is the rear one. Great video.
Thanks Dave, I can stop calling it that thing. 😂 i am having a ball with these scooters already. Thanks for watching.
Finally someone is telling us about 😅👍🏻👌🏻
Thanks alot
Is it the front one called the variator?
I'm old enough to remember when the Honda Elite was the cool scooter to own Just noticed you're coming up on 10K subscribers. That's awesome.
These are My favorte Bikes, i can't wit to see the process, hopefullly one that is the blue color
I am really digging these bikes. I also like the blue one. Thanks for watching.
Good luck, pretty distinctive scooter and it will be a very interesting recovery - I'm sure you'll come right. 👍🏻
Spoiler alert: I am cleaning the carbs for the next video and it is shocking how good the inside looks. Thanks for watching.

Funny you mentioned space age. They were called Spacy in other countries and Elite in the US🇺🇸. Thanks for watching.
*LCD screens, not LED. I had an Aero 50 to be my first powered two wheeled freedom machine.
Can’t wait for this! Wish it was much longer 😊
I heard that(LCD) in editing. Now I have to figure out how to make it brighter. Such a cool little bike. Thanks for watching.

The good thing, so far the parts I might need clutch, starter carb are all pretty inexpensive. 🤞thanks for watching.
Great video as allways from you
Thanks so much. This one is gonna be fun.
Cvt transmission? Great find! I had also a aero 1984 !!! Ah the old days..keep on your good work!
Thankfully someone told me what it is. I was just gonna keep calling it that thing, that goes there. Thanks for watching.
Absolutely smashing as we say in the uk. 😂
Graham, I think these were called Spacy in the UK. These little guys are so much fun. Thanks for watching.
Great I will take a look see if I can find one
Awesome. We can start an international scooter gang. 😂
Yes sir I am up for that. It can go with my Kawasaki Z650RS Suzuki SV650S and my 1954 Triumph 500 Speed twin !
Hopefully you find one. Waiting on the intake to come in and the engine is going back in. 🤞

Is it a 2 or 4 stroke? I would whip the head off to have a look, but make sure gaskets are available first, great content 🇦🇺👍
It’s a 4 stroke. The good thing is there are plenty of aftermarket parts for these old scooters. Thanks for watching.
