In my opinion an artist needs to establish a team to help promote the artist and give honest feedback instead of telling them what they want to hear… too many artists are living in a bubble where A&Rs aren’t correcting them when they’re missing the mark on promoting their brand on social media . An A&R of 2024 is totally different from A&Rs of pre 2000s .. artists aren’t receiving guidance that helps them evolve & perfect their brand. They’re also not being prepared to handle large sums of money once they come into their contract after signing with a label.. the labels are winning but the artists are losing in the long run… they fizz out after releasing so much music at a fast rate without connecting with their audience. Imo in order to offset that development is key there’s no way around true artist development.
Absolutely, you've made some great points! The music industry has indeed changed drastically, and the role of A&R today is much different than it was back in the day. Modern artists really do need a solid team around them-not just people who will feed them what they want to hear, but those who can offer genuine, constructive feedback and guide them in effectively promoting their brand across various platforms. Also, the aspect of financial management is crucial. It's so important for artists to receive proper guidance on handling the financial aspects that come with their contracts. Without this, it's easy for artists to burn out or mismanage their earnings. Continued artist development is key to creating a sustainable career in music.
