I love this!! I just recently did a presentation about being vegan and Latina. I prepared tacos de nopales. The book Decolonize Your Diet was such a big help. Our indigenous ancestors ate a predominantly plant based diet with a small portion of meat. Plant based foods are closed to our culture than we’ve been led to believe :).
Amen! 👏 Before colonization, animals of burden (cows, horses, ox, pigs, etc) did not exist in Mesoamerica (present day Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras and parts of Nicaragua). The largest animal in Mexico was the wild Turkey. They was a smallish pig called a “peccary” but aside from that, no real large animals and no grease/oil! This is why many traditional Mexican dishes are cooked either via steam (tamales) or on an oil free griddle (comal). Those fattening foods came from Europe and I’m convinced our DNA specifically is not meant to consume them. Indigenous peoples lived on a diet that was 90% plant based. When they did consume animal protein, it was from small animals and in quantities they could hunt, which is not a lot.

Taqueria la Venganza in Oakland has some amazing meats. OmSabor are two Mexican chefs in SF that cook amazing and delicious Mexican food plus other vegan fusions. They are honestly my heroes! La Chancita are from Aguascalientes and recently moved to Pleasant Hill from SF but they still pop up all over the Bay. Their meats are also amazing and the chef has started selling her cheese! I'm probably missing someone else but those 3 are my top pick!
Oh wait! There's MiCasa in SJ, not fully vegan, but they have the famous quesabirria tacos made vegan! They also have menudo, and tacos de papa (I would recommend asking for it to be made vegan, and for extra slaw, it's delicious!).

I mean, this is like beautiful poetry or something. The way it's filmed and of course the food. Looking at the sauces dripping lol is beyond enticing. To be a vegetarian or vegan and get to grub on any of this is something I'd feel so blessed to experience.
I make some amazing TVP Tacos and Jack fruit pulled pork sandwiches. But this guy's stuff looks beyond anything I've ever done. He should come to NYC and open up a place here. He'd be famous in less than 30 days

I love the idea of veganizing Mexican food because in my opinion American/ European food is a lot blander in flavor. Mexican cuisine has a lot of flavor from chiles and spices that when added to vegan proteins would go so well! Honestly this is just my opinion bc my family is Mexican American ^^ so ofc I prefer the flavors

I was recently diagnosed with diverticulitis which is a result of a western diet and genetics. I’m researching how to recreate all the traditional recipes I love without meat. This is absolutely amazing !
Looks amazing! I always wonder why people dislike vegan food that imitates meat. Some become vegan or vegetarian over time and dont want to miss out the flavours of meat. Some like me try to eat less meat and are glad if we can find alternatives that still taste like the original.
I'm actually from Tijuana and i've tried almost all of their tacos. YOU WOULDN'T BELIEVE HOW FREAKING GOOD THEY ARE. The adobada tacor are BOMB AF and tbh i like them even more than i liked real adobada. It's a shame they only deliver through uber eats, the times i had the chance to try them on events were even better than the times i order delivery.
Hey man, this is great! It would be nice if you published a book about how to cook vegan, Mexican food! I LOVE the reasoning behind this. No More Animal Cruelty! I hope you expand these modified meals everywhere to make a difference in our health, while protecting the environment, and saving those precious creatures at the same time!
This is sooooo amazing to see! I just moved to Mexico and where I am in the North East of Mx, the vegan options are slim pickings here :( BUT seeing these authentic flavors and the intriguing textures being created by a Mexican Chef is truly exciting! Keep up the incredible work 🙌🏽💯

ive heard Gracias Madre in SF is good, also El Cantaro in Monterey is pretty decent (def not as authentic as this taqueria but worth trying!)
