    The simplicity of your script here makes me think that this bike is easy to live everyday with. Thats the first thing i see as a biker and i wish to know much more as a 90s kid we are different very practical and we want to know the mechanicals of our machines so you were spot on with this video.

      Hey! Thank you very much! The HyperStrada was an easy bike to talk about actually as it was so easy to get on with but also incredibly effective without being overwhelming.
      All the best, cheers, Phil.

    Nobody shoots motorcycle videos like these. Well done again. I've never had a go on a Ducati but I think I should try one at some point. Good on you for litter pickup, making amends for the rag toss I see. Ha!

      Really appreciate your comments about the filming - thanks! If you get chance to ride one, definitely go for it. Certainly the 939 motor has a kind of linear / predictable grunt yet with an exciting edge, which for me, is impossible to get bored with + there’s no tingling fingers either. As for the litter 😇...ha ha. Thanks for watching, cheers, Phil.

    Wow. This is an incredible video. Jeez, the production quality is spot on. It could be a professional studio production for all I know. The different angles, the smooth transitions, I mean wow, amazing job! The tilt shift section was a nice touch too!

      Hello EastBayRider! Many thanks for your comments and good to know the cinematography is appreciated. It was / is a labour of love and is my second hobby. Although I’d struggle to choose between camera and bike...It would probably depend on the weather 😄 I’m over on the East coast also, though I suspect yours has a slightly better climate...one admission though - the tilt-shift was software generated...but I do have a TS lens so will use that for real next time out. Thanks for watching, cheers, Phil.

      Thanks very much Michael! It’s been a good few years since I sold the HyperStrada but even now I have really fond memories of it and it’s easily in the top 3 of bikes I’ve ever owned and definitely it’s the most fun, exciting and confidence inspiring road bike I’ve owned. Loved it! I’d love to try the latest one and the new single cylinder Ducati…All the best, cheers, Phil.

      Hey Kevin, how are you doing? Thanks for stopping by. Yep - I absolutely ADORED my Hyperstrada, it made me want to ride all the time and really invigorated my love of bikes. Sooooooo much fun - even it did send me a little loopy every so often. The reliability is good news. I must admit I'd like a Ducati, even though there are no dealers anywhere near my two abodes - Portugal and Thailand.

    • @80eightReviews
      @80eightReviews  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And in addition to the reliability, the finish was very good also - yeah not having a dealer nearby is a drag, I feel the same about Husqvarna’s 😀 Still, having two homes in such wonderful places isn’t all bad! Thanks for watching the trilogy, cheers, Phil.

      Hey Brad, glad you enjoyed the video. The Hyperstrada was one, if not, the most fun and engaging bike I've ever owned. I still think of it wistfully and yes, it really did get me back into bikes just for 'fun' as opposed to thinking about a million different 'needs' that weren't really needs at all. These days fun factor is my main driver as I figure with fun catered for, you can pretty much do anything you 'need' on a bike.
      Hope your viewing goes OK, let me know what you decide!

    As a Speedfight 2 stroke scooter owner I can relate to that nagging feeling that something is about to go wrong with certain bikes.
    Literally pieces of it come off as you're driving down the road, hopefully a dealership will take it in part ex when I get my bigboy license.

    Good video. Most people think Ducati is unreliable. You have proven it isnt. I cant choose. Or a hyperstrada or a multistrada 950.

    • @80eightReviews
      @80eightReviews  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Vincent! I must admit that before I owned the HS I had a few lingering doubts about reliability - purely based on a friends old 900SS! So yes, I’d have no qualms about buying another one at all - it’s been totally solid and a complete joy + a ton of fun to own. It’s like the bike I’ve been waiting for forever. As for the HS / MS decision - aside from the subjective matter of looks, and not having ridden the MS it’s probably more about total fun + spartan touring ability (Hyperstrada) Vs slightly less fun + better touring ability (Multistrada). Although if you take a pillion regularly then the MS is the way to go. Difficult decision but neither is going to be wrong. Anyway, thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment, cheers, Phil.

      Yeah I just looked and thought about buying a KTM 450 SM and decided not to due to maintenance cost and how often they want the oil changed and valves adjusted. Also replacement body panels are $$$. A tank for an 06 is $1650 U.S.! Oil change $70 for parts and they are goofy frequent. No thank you...

    About 36,000 miles on my 821 strada and I concur. I'd add that as I become a better rider the limits of the bike seem to increase. It's quick, the power can catch you off guard in a good way (oh it can do that? I'll have one more please...), it's a little hard edged but not frantic and I tour days on end. I do like this little beast.

      Hello! Yes I think it has been forgotten which is a terrible shame. It handles like the Hypermotard yet is as practical as a Honda NC. In the UK it lasted for around 2 years and sold very few - with everyone presumably going for the Multistrada instead.

    Great long-term review! I saw your first videos with the Hyperstrada and I still like to own one one day. But the Moto Guzzi Breve that I ride is just also SO good. The only thing the Hyperstrada has in its advantage (in my opinion anyway) is the lower weight and the "light looks".

      Thanks Martin, as I now own both flavours of Italian twin and totally love them both, I can only compare them to wine...The Guzzi is a gorgeous complex, old world red, mellow, fruity and satisfying, while the Ducati, actually, isn’t a wine...It’s a double-hopped IPA that explodes with fizz and citrus notes. Personally, I can drink the two side by side, but couldn’t choose which one I could do without....Thanks for watching, cheers, Phil.

If you can find one with the belts just done, you'll be looking at another 15,000 of trouble free riding. Hey John, I don't think you'll go far wrong with either. I test rode both (the 939 versions) and while the HM felt a little more aggressive given it's lower handlebars and taller seat, handling wise they are identical - which of course means they are totally brilliant! The HS screen works a lot better than you might expect and it turns the bike from a short lunatic blast machine, into one that is easily capable of long distances without tiring you out. Hope that helps and thanks for stopping by, cheers, Phil.

    Seen you video May be 20 times last one week. Best videos for hyperstrada out there . Getting one (second hand ) this month .
    Few question if you don’t mind -
    1) I am from India, we have traffic jams , people here say the bike has a heating problem ? Is it true .
    2) I am 5.8 “ tall. Is it manageable
    3) yea I want a all rounder bike - is this one of the best ? My options - triple street triumph , and Ducati scrambler or even scrambler pro.
    My usage - basic city (not daily), small rides once in 3-4 months (300km) .
    Cheers .

      @80eightReviews  ปีที่แล้ว

      Good morning! It’s great to hear from India! And congratulations on getting a HyperStrada - I’m sure you’ll totally love it. As for your questions, no problem at all :
      1. It does get warm yes, but in comparison to a bike which has serious heat issues like the Triumph 1200 Scrambler, it’s way less and in the UK at least not an issue. The only time I found it uncomfortable was when the outside temperature was uncomfortable yet, it didn’t exacerbate the ambient heat much. It probably wouldn’t be my first choice for heavily congested commuting but it will cope fine - one thing to note though is that as it does get hit the clutch and fuelling can get a little snatchy.
      2. Completely - if you’ve got the standard HS seat which is really scooped you’ll have no problems touching the floor and the bike is light and super manageable and balanced. All the controls and steering are beautifully light.
      3. I thought it was great all rounder though some folk will disagree of course. It was (is) fun, sporty and useful. Perhaps the only thing it can’t do is two-up long distance touring. Of the other bikes you’ve mentioned, while I haven’t ridden them if I were to be given the choice I’d go for the HS again - it’s one of my top 3 bikes I’ve owned. It’s brilliant.
      Hope that helps and let me know how you get on once you’ve taken delivery of the bike. All the best, cheers, Phil.

      @@80eightReviews Hey , unfortunately the person who was selling me the Bike has backed out . Now the one available has done 23,000 Km, 2019 model . It is at a much better price point though.
      Is this to much mileage on the bike ? How many Km have you done ? Is the bike still working fine . I am a new biker . Does buying a bike with so many kilo meters make sense ? What is the life of these bikes. ?

    • @80eightReviews
      @80eightReviews  ปีที่แล้ว

      Morning Harsh and best wishes for 2023. That’s a shame about the first bike you had your eye on. In terms of reliability and mileage - I did around 12,000 miles / 19,000 km on mine with no problems whatsoever. Modern Ducati’s are very reliable these days which can be seen in their service and oil change intervals.
      All I would suggest on the bike you’re looking at is to confirm the service schedule has been followed and in particular check if / when the timing belts need to be changed - on the 939 they should be changed at five years / 30,000 km (whichever comes earlier) and is probably one of the bigger services and cost to consider. If all seems well and the bike has been looked after, the mileage isn’t really a concern.
      Hope that helps and let me know what you decide to do,
      Cheers,
      Phil.

      @80eightReviews  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Hans - thanks for stopping by. I had a test ride of the HM before buying the HS (the dealer didn’t have a HS demonstrator) and the handling is identical as you might expect. It’s less comfortable due to the narrower / higher seat and the bars are a little lower. Main difference is the lack of screen on the HM - it’s amazing how much the HS screen helps with smoothing the airflow out and which then makes it much more comfortable to ride at speed for longer. Aside from that they are identical. Hope that helps and thanks for stopping by, cheers, Phil.

    Beautifully composed video, quirky turn of phrase. Enthusiastic description on all your reviews. You seem to have many a bike in your quiver at any one time, all of which seem well researched before purchase and ownership.
    Have you tried a BMW R9t? Thoughts?
    How many bikes is too many?
    How many is currently just enough?

    • @80eightReviews
      @80eightReviews  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello! Thanks for your very kind comments about the videos. I must admit I sort of do them mainly as practice for filming, editing and grading - and as I love bikes it’s no hardship 😄 As for the R9T...well, it’s definitely a bike I keep circling round I must admit. I can probably see one in my future at some point - particularly as they are very good value on the used market. I’ve just part-ex’d my Triumph Scrambler for an XSR900 which arrives next year though, so no R9T in 2020. For me four or more bikes is ‘too many’ I’ve had 4 before (MT-01/B-King/Guzzi V7/NX650) and it was all a bit much keeping up with MOT, servicing, tyres etc. Three feels about right especially if they have different ‘roles’ which is where I went wrong with the scrambler to be honest - it was a mix of trail bike and retro and my Honda + Guzzi already fulfil both those admirably. Plus the scrambler was a bit ‘serious’ and I like fun bikes - hence the XSR! Is three ‘just enough’ well...it’s a bit greedy I guess, given one in reality is enough...but yeah, I like having three 😄 Cheers & thanks for stopping by (again), Phil.

    Brilliant real life review and filmography as usual. One question, why do you swap to the Honda Dominator when the grip goes down in winter?

    • @80eightReviews
      @80eightReviews  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks /glad you enjoyed the review! As for using the Honda in slippy conditions - well, the HS has really aggressive power delivery and on slimy (not just wet) roads, I find the traction control kicks in all the time, so I end up being really gentle on the throttle, which in turn isn’t really what the bike is about. On the Honda though, as it’s so soft and fluffy I can wind the throttle open as fast as I can and it’s fine - just like riding it in the dry. Also, psychologically, spinning / slipping on a bike that cost me peanuts is rather more tolerable! Cheers, Phil.

    • @80eightReviews
      @80eightReviews  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good morning Francisco, hope you are well. Thanks for your comments! The jacket is made by Merlin and is called the Yoxall. I’ve found it a great jacket for everything apart from the worst months of a UK winter and that’s simply because it’s not a full length jacket. It’s certainly warm enough and waterproof for a few hours riding in the rain. It’s amazingly well made and a very reasonable price, so highly recommended. I’ve used it for two European trips now plus it’s my everyday jacket apart from when the temperature drops below freezing - I love it. Hope that helps, cheers, Phil.

      Afternoon! Er, I can't remember to be honest (I sold the bike a couple of years ago) - I think it may have had a low field indicator I think? Hey Alvaro...Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment...I’m 5ft 10 / 1.8m...The HS has a ‘touring seat’ which is broader but has more of a ‘scoop’ so it’s really quite low compared to the Hypermotard. Hope that helps and glad you enjoyed the video, cheers, Phil.

    How do you find the fueling?

    • @80eightReviews
      @80eightReviews  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Evening! Personally I find the fuelling really good - I mean it’s got that lean, slightly disconnected feeling that all fuel injection / especially with twins has, but it’s fine, eager and responsive. It behaves well at low revs; at a constant throttle and gives good economy. It’s probably more the clutch which has an issue - when cold it’s very snatchy and difficult to let out smoothly when in first. I now have the habit of going from neutral to first to neutral a few times when it’s cold (clutch in) just to loosen it up a bit. A new rider might find it tricky but if you’re used to dirt bikes and riding the clutch to get traction, it’s no big deal. Certainly doesn’t spoil the fun! Hope that helps & thanks for watching, cheers, Phil.

      Good morning! I'm 5'10 and it's super low / flat foot with bent knees for me - the HS has a scooped out seat compared to the HM, so at 5'6 I reckon you'd be able to get most of your foot down, but possibly not flat foot.
